I was fourteen when I attempted to write my first novel. Half finished, riddled with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and printed in pink ink, I gave it to my English teacher and asked her for feedback. A month later she handed it back to me and told me it was "good" without having read it.

How did I know she hadn't read it? The story was about an assassin for hire who disposed of her "kills" in her bathtub by dissolving their remains in sulphuric acid. I'm pretty sure if she had read it, one heck of a letter would have been sent home. I look back at this now and can see that the pink ink and poor spelling were the least of my problems.

With the lack of constructive criticism from my English teacher, I placed my novel writing on hold. I dallied mainly with typical teenage, angst-ridden poetry until several years later, on a romantic whim, I turned a boy I knew into a superhero, literarily (not literally) speaking. Because I'm super awesome, I included some of his friends and chronicled their superhero adventures as a birthday present to him.

My relationship with the superhero version of the boy lasted the completion of a dozen short stories. My relationship with the real life boy didn't. And I was writing pretty dang quick too!

There were a couple more plot twists but since they don't involve radioactive spiders, magical wardrobes or handsome Tolkien-esque elves they're not really worth talking about! So that's pretty much the yellow brick road to how I got here.

This is the second book in the Bridget Sway series and it continues to get better.

The humour is just as sarcastic and wonderful as before, the characters are well drawn out and you begin to understand why Bridget has been acting as she has and the friendships evolve between her and her housemates.

The mystery is engaging and the situations they find themselves in are really funny, I'm still laughing at what happens in chapter 3!

I am so looking forward to the next book in the series, I devour these books, I can't put them down so I will always be waiting for the next one to come! Write, write like the wind!!

*Huge thanks to the author for a copy of this book for an honest review*

Hilarious! And ridiculously good!

This is a fantastic book! Very well written. Book #2 in this series and an absolute winner.

At the beginning of the book we catch Bridget, the eternal troublemaker, trying to make her corpse look better for the funeral. But things go wrong in many unexpected ways… Hilarious doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Afterlife feels like Hell to Bridget. The afterlife is filled with illogical bureaucracy. She’s not really adjusting all that well and rebels against all the weird rules. And she’s very materialistic. And has serious anger-issues. But she’s so hilariously funny and deliciously sarcastic!

It takes a while for the case to start, but I didn’t mind one bit; the first chapters are about the funeral and an assessment (which BTW was totally Oz’s fault, not hers for not adjusting, LOL). Super fun!

When Bridget finds a dead ghost in her locker yet again, of course she can’t help but investigate, together with her friend Sabrina. Madame Zorina also brings a case to their attention, so that’s part of the story too.

There is a really surprising twist at the end, one I didn’t see coming! At one point, it got so suspenseful, I started reading really fast in my haste to find out what happened next. But (yes, there is a ‘but’): the ‘why’ isn’t fully explained, just partially. That’s nagging at me a bit. I can’t explain which ‘why’ is missing without spoiling anything, so I won’t. But let’s just say, despite this being a truly great book, there’s still room for improvement :)

If you like fun, quirky, ghosts, all combined in a good cozy mystery, then this is a must-read for you!

Immediately upon finishing book 1 I jumped right into reading book 2, Deader Still. In this book Bridget has barely finished solving a murder mystery before she finds herself immersed in solving another set of murders. We get to know the characters well and there are some seriously hilarious ghosts running about. I think it’s hilarious that the police are called GB’s or Ghosting Busters. Reminds me of the Ghostbuster song.. Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!

Bridget begins to come to terms with being dead and based on the life she lead while she was alive, I think she’s better off in this afterlife being a ghost. She lost the cheating fiance and bland life. Here in the afterlife she’s got friends that have her back no matter what and a potential yummy guy that’s totally off limits.

One of the underlying themes in this book is the idea that while we’re living we have a tendency to put things off for the right time. The right time might never come and you’ll find yourself dead before you find the time to do the things you want to do. Live in the moment and make the time to prioritize what’s important to you now, not later.

“I’ll wait until I’m thinner. I’ll wait until I earn more. I’ll wait until the children are older. I’ll wait until I have more time. I’ll wait until someone’s not trying to kill me.’ You’ll wait your life away and then one day you’ll wake up dead and realise that all the things you were waiting for weren’t really in the way.”

Book 2 in this witty series finds Bridget Sway in week two of being dead, working in a job that not only doesn’t pay, but requires her to wear a hideous one-piece jumpsuit, and facing a surprise evaluation. To add insult to injury, she finds dead dead body No. 2 in her work locker, making the police even more suspicious of her. Bridget and her new friends band together to prove her innocence, but then the Ghosting Busters (sort of like the CIA of the Underworld) take an interest in her, making it that much harder for her to find the real killer.

This was a quick, light, entertaining read that made the time on the treadmill fly by. I found myself thinking about Bridget and her friends when I wasn’t reading, wondering what they were getting up to. Some of the paranormal elements were kind of annoying, but setting those aside, I really did enjoy the interactions between the characters, and the solving of the mystery, as well as watching Bridget get her sea legs and start to adjust to the afterlife.

I see this is a three-book series, and that makes me kind of sad – I really like the premise, the characters, the dialogue, the situations, and the settings. I was hoping there would be more to read. Oh well, at least I have one more to go.

NOTE: The actual title of Book 2 is Dead and Buried. Deader Still is actually book 4 that I just finished--it originally had Dead and Buried as a title. See Amazon for the correct lineup and new covers.

Bridget was having to do an assessment to determine if she was well adjusted, but the people running it were dropping like flies. This book was just as fun and funny as the first, and I enjoyed getting to know the people in Bridget's new world better. I'm glad I can access it on Kindle Unlimited, and I'll definitely be reading the next book.

Dead and Buried Review

A little repetitive but ultimately amusing story. I would say it's worth the read. The main characters are really starting to grow on me so I do plan on continuing the series to see what happens next.

The beginning of the book starts off with Bridget's funeral on earth. A somber occasion that turns into a madhouse of violence and stupidity that is witnessed by all of Bridget's housemates as well as Sabrina and Oz. It is during the funeral that Bridget gets a mysterious summons to her assessment-which is a week long session of tests and activities to determine if she was adjusting properly to the after-death life. There were about 30 other people who were also in the class, a class Bridget had no hope of passing. Dr. Watson is in charge of her assessment, the same Dr. Watson that Bridget saw last week, and that didn't go well.

Also in her second week the stuffing of dead bodies in her locker continues. Naturally, when the body in her locker is Dr. Watson, Bridget is once again interrogated by the police and the GB. Even though she was doing community service during the time of the murder, she is still a suspect. This situation along with the Physic PI business that she was one of three ghosts consulting for, keeps her beyond busy in her lunch hours and during breaks from her GA class. Thank heavens for a resourceful partner in "crime" her friend Sabrina!

Bridget, Sabrina, and "outlaw" ghost Edith work together to solve the mystery for the physic's client as well as trying to sort out the confusion of the latest death and all the mysterious happenings that continue in the assessment meetings. Bridget and Sabrina are genuinely good people trying to find out the person responsible for so much death. Of course most of the attention falls on Bridget and she is portrayed as a horrible person. The two friends continue with their confusing theories and makeshift plans no matter what happens. They are funny characters and so likeable. Then there is the mother hen, Edith who calls everyone "dear" and points out the obvious but never fails to help. I love the way they dodge Oz and authorities, managing to stay out of trouble many many times when I was sure they would be caught!

At first I thought the book started off a little unbelievable (even for Bridget), but before long the PI team took charge and added their excitement to the mix. I read the second half of the book without moving because I HAD to figure out the resolution. It was a fun book and so enjoyable that I ordered the next book in the series and read the first three chapters still without moving!
Better get that third book ready because I am sure YOU WILL want to know what happens next.

Bridget once again bull-dozes herself into trouble and danger. Maneuvering herself into being allowed to attend her own funeral where the grand daddy of all brouhahas takes place, she is snatched away and finds herself in a sort of pop quiz on how she is adjusting. Only it seems this can have some dire consequences. Bridget may finally know the answer to her question of where do the dead go when they die again? Follow her adventures in the afterlife as she still searches for fashion, makeup and solo living quarters.

Bridget returns to reek havoc in the afterlife once again. You will smile, giggle and laugh out loud as you read Deader Still. Bridget and her housemates and friends are adjusting to new jobs, new rules and of course being dead. Bridget's saucy and snippy dialog shows readers the being dead can still be fun. This series continues to develop the world of the afterlife and those who reside there. If you don't find the humor of the story, check your pulse and look around. You may be one of the newest arrivals waiting for Bridget and the Grim Reaper to deliver you to your next destination. My rating is 5 out of 5 stars. I cannot wait to see what happens next. One thing is for sure the afterlife is definitely not a boring place.

Bridget returns to reek havok in the afterlife once again.

Another amusing foray into murder and the afterlife with Bridget Sway. When yet another body falls out of Bridget’s locker she again finds herself a suspect and needs to investigate to clear her name, while coping with more insane tests to prove her ‘adjustment’ to the afterlife. I really enjoy Bridget and Sabrina’s friendship. They are definitely kindred spirits and hilarious with it. And I like how they continue to question the utterly ridiculous rules and lack of information provided. Because the rules and regs are crazy. And you would. Well I totally would (maybe I can be Bridget’s friend too if I prove not to be a murderer). Bridget and Tommy were funny too. I love the whole “It will so break my heart if you are the murderer” thing. And once again Bridget & Sabrina delight me by erring on the side of caution when it comes to protecting themselves from a potential killer – this time with a taser rather than a cosh. I must say I was totally surprised by who the killer turned out to be – did not guess that at all.

If I have one complaint it is probably frustration on Bridget’s behalf about the incredibly unfair treatment. I mean other people question things (Tommy, Warren, Sabrina, even crazy Jess to start with), Sabrina is definitely the instigator of a lot of the rule breaking and yet Bridget gets all the blame and punishment. And then there is Oz. I don’t get him. He is supposed to be helping Bridget transition and accept the afterlife yet he keeps making choices and decisions that anyone with a grain of sense will make things worse for someone with Bridget’s personality. And I I just do not understand why he wont even buy the poor girl some clothes, or at the very least underwear. It would probably even help with her adjustment because if she has some of her own stuff wont she feel more like she belongs there. There is no good reason for it. It is just mean.

Fun read....however.... "Deader Still" is actually Book 4 in the series, not book 2. "Dead & Buried" is book 2 & matches the summary listed here for Deader Still. Needless to say, I read them out of order & did not realize until I started reading "Dead & Buried". For summary of "Deader Still", see her book titled, "Dead & Buried." In other words the 2 titles got switched.

That said...
"Deader Still" opened with a shopping trip arranged for the newly dead girls at a department store. Everyone was so excited for the outing & to have something other than their work jumpsuits to wear. But wouldn't you know it? A newly dead body turns up & Bridget discovers it while trying on a new outfit.

Someone is apparently killing off mediums, as Bridget & Sabrina try to figure out the who & the why, while trying to protect Madame Zorina, another "alive" medium. Suspicion once again falls on Bridget, & once again, with the help of her friend, Sabrina, they set about trying to clear her name. Bridget & Sabrina are fun & funny together. Oz, Bridget's parole officer, very attractive, is rather fond of Bridget & very protective of all those in his household, & very off limits to those in his household. The antics & protectiveness of Bridget's housemates, was really awesome & fun to watch, as the book shows them coming to terms with their newly "dead" status. "Adjusting" to one's "dead" status, is very important in the Afterlife, & seems to have more to do with one's mental & complacency state, than just understanding you are "dead".

One just keeps turning the page to find what new delights or new horrors, new mysteries or questions resolved that await them.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Bridget Sway Series. After surviving her first week in the afterlife Bridget thought that maybe life would get a little easier.....nope! She has been chosen to go through assessments to see if she is adjusting to the afterlife, which she is not. While working and being assessed Bridget gets herself into a few sticky situations with her new BFF Sabrina. Through their adventures and Bridget's finding of dead bodies, they get themselves into more trouble that one would think is possible. The adventures, dialog and characters are fun to read about and puts you right in the middle of all the situations as if you are there with them. So far this series is a ton of fun to read and I very much look forward to the next book.....

I started receiving emails from the author when I signed up on a Henery Press contest. The first book of the series (Beyond Dead) was offered for free, so of course I downloaded it. Sounded interesting. I love a snarky leading lady who doesn't take guff from anyone and the paranormal. Once I started reading, I was hooked! Bridget was a shallow, self-absorbed person in life; but the afterlife is starting to knock some of that out of her as she starts making actual friends. The hijinks are hilarious that they get into. (This reminds me of the Swamp Team 3 from Jana DeLeon's books.) I've definitely picked up book #3 to keep going with the series and hope there's more of Bridget coming in the future. She helps make the afterlife a whole lot more fun! :)

Read this for the funeral bit (if nothing else) - hilarious

Tremendous! I have read this series a few times now and it never fails to make me laugh and entertain. She has gotten 10 years community service for finding the killer and now she has to attend an "assessment" to see how well adjusted she is. The only problem is the people running the assignment have her in their sights for failure. Then the doctor heading the assignment turns up dead - in her locker! Watch as she and her two partners in crime manoeuvre to watch her funeral, help the medium and solve the mounting death tolls that follow her around. What a wonderful storyteller this author is not only with this terrific plot but also the memorable characters.

Bridget's been sort-of dead (it's complicated) for two months and has already stumbled across three dead-dead (again complicated) bodies, been blamed for killing them and ended up finding the actual killer.

So, there's a new dead guy who is ultra-annoying, Jeremy who, as expected, ends up dead-dead. The body-finding count doesn't end for her, though, and her troubles increase. There's a bunch of suspects, an officer that might be involved and Oz (who's rather angry at the way things are going).

All the books in this series so far have not only been good but are very funny at times. Bridget and Charon (the bus driver rather than a ferryman) are my favorite characters. The series is so good I plan to read all the books in the series.

Bridget & Sabrina are still getting themselves in trouble. Bridget has to go through an assessment and she must pass. If only the murders wouldn't continue.
Bridget has a better life as a ghost, She meets interesting people and some real characters. I had to laugh at some of the things that were said.
This book is well written. Good dialog. I can envision everything that is happening. Books can be read as a stand alone but I think you would get more out of the story if you read Beyond Dead first. I recommend these books as a fun read.
I received this book from the author. I am voluntarily reviewing it, My opinion is entirely my own.

This is the second book in the Bridget Sway series, and Jordaina Sydney Robinson hasn’t disappointed us, with more dead bodies, again Bridget being accused of, teaming up with Sabrina, Edith and Madame Z to solve cases in their own Private Investigations Agency, and still working and doing community service.
I was gripped in this book from beginning to end, who could the killer be, who was the next victim and what antics would Bridget and Sabrina get upto next.
Can’t wait for the next instalment of Jordaina Sydney Robinson, Bridget Sway Series “A Little More Dead”

I received this book for free in return for an honest review. This is the second book in the series and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first. It starts with another dead body falling out of Bridget's locker. Again. This book is nonstop action of dead bodies and Bridget trying to stay safe while proving that she is acting normal. I loved the interaction she had with Charon. I had never pictured him as a friend before. This story is really funny and a joy to read. I can't wait to read the next book.

If you think being alive is hard work, you should try being dead... That is the humorous premise of this series. In book two, Bridget and Sabrina return to the same set of problems - ghosts can be murdered and Bridget can be accused - three more times. Oh, and haunting people is not as straightforward as you might think, the spectral pair are on afterlife parole and Bridget has to wear a purple jumpsuit. She goes to her own funeral with unfortunate, but hilarious consequences and there is a good looking ghost called Oz who saves her.

I really like the characters in these stories. I like that Bridget is maturing (somewhat). What I don't really like is the actual mystery itself. They just don't make sense. We aren't given any real clues where we might solve it ourselves and we don't really get much explanation for motive either. I hope that improves over the course of the series. I also am not crazy about the afterlife and the way it is run. It does seem more like Bridget's personal hell and maybe it is. We'll see.

This is another kindle unlimited find. :) This series is slowly growing on me. While I love Bridget & all the secondary characters, sometimes all the inconsistencies with the rules being mentioned that are broken continuously with no body ever finding out until much later or not at all drive me crazy. That being said, I still love all the friendships & antics Bridget gets up to. This book had me laughing out loud a lot.

A week later after finding the real murderer in the first book and Bridget once again finds herself in the interrogation room after finding yet another body in her locker. This time, the bodies are pilling up left, right and center. Ms. Robinson delivers another original, hilarious story with many recurrent characters and a couple of new ones too.

Awesome, entertaining and hilarious - just what the doctor ordered

I'm a kindle unlimited reader who readily purchases books in this series. Bridget is laugh out loud funny, Sabrina, Petal, Pam, Oz - they're all characters that come to life. I've read and re-read each book, as they are welcome comedic relief. Well written, witty and just great.

Awesome Series

I love this book and the series so far. It is truly original, interesting, funny, and has complex murder mysteries. The characters are a hoot! And I love how Bridget and Sabrina are constantly breaking the rules. But all those rules are stifling and ticking me off. I am with Edith, I would go rogue.
