My introduction to Bakshiji's songs was done by my late father who sang his songs while we went on drives, when he was with his friends, or humming alone.
As I read of his struggles, his highs and lows narrated beautifully with a backdrop of the songs he wrote; these songs became the backdrop of my memories of my father as well.
The author kept the integrity of the story, narrating the professional and personal successes and at the same time exploring his fears, guilt and insecurities.
This connection with the story would not be possible had the author not narrated every mood, every setting with the honesty it deserved. Whether it was the dread of a child leaving home to pursue his passion, guilt of a new father leaving family behind or the simplicity of his love of poetry which ignored literary expectations. What one finds even more inspiring is his work ethic and handling of the success that eventually came to him in droves; which is aspirational.
The book will surprise you with its simplicity, engross you with its narrative, inspire you to pursue your dreams and gently nudge you to think about life, your relationships and your goals in life. Highly recommend!
