Vengeance, thy name is love...

Lady Myra Walsh is a lady with a proper upbringing and impeccable character. Which is why she has a hard time understanding how could her father offer her hand in marriage to the most reclusive, ill-fated member of the ton.

Despite his young age, Ewan Griffith, the Duke of Tarnton, has already suffered enough. With both parents and a limb lost to an accident, he has closed himself off, earning the title of the "Recluse Duke". Until he meets one Lady Myra.

Unexpectedly, both Myra and Ewan realize they have more in common as tentative friendship blooms into powerful love. Love that's painted red; the same color as the missing ruby from the day Ewan's parents died.

Hanna Hamilton has been fascinated with the Regency era ever since she was a young teen, first discovering historical romance novels by famous authors such as Jane Austen and Lisa Kleypas. She believes that love was just so much more magical back then, more like a fairy tale. She always daydreamed about finding love herself that way, but since that is impossible in the twenty-first century, she decided to write about it instead!

Born in Texas, Hanna Hamilton obtained a degree in Creative Writing and has worked as a literature teacher before becoming a novelist. When she isn’t writing, Hanna likes to explore the countryside with her husband and two children, gaining inspiration from the natural world around her.

So, come on a journey into love, confusion, and redemption all within the Regency era. Hanna hopes that you will enjoy immersing yourself into her novels and that you too will find a love for old-fashioned romance, just as she has.

Abrupt ending ruined the book

I enjoyed the book up until the ending. The story ended so abruptly, it ruined it for me. It was the climax of the story without a finish. The hero rescues the lady and it just stops. No wrapping it up, no satisfaction of seeing the victim face her kidnappers. I've read all of Hanna Hamilton's books, some are really good, others not so much . It felt like she had reached her word limit so bam! Done. Disappointing.

The absolute worst that Hannah Hamilton has wrote . It left the story hanging without joining the couple together .

Rounding up from 1-1/2 stars.

Almost DNF'd 3 times. Why did I not trust my instincts? This book wasn't for me. It was missing a strong hero, a spunky heroine, and witty banter. No dialogue commenced between Ewan and Myra until they met 26% into the story. From there, the story headed into excruciating territory when most of the characters cowered in fear over scandal sheets that intimated they had behaved poorly which was totally untrue. Consequently, they expected to be shunned by the ton. Dun, dun, dunn. Who could survive such SHAME? Nearing the end, the plot plummeted to even lower depths when the characters naively believed lies about each other. Critical thinking, anyone?

As mentioned by other reviewers, the last chapter entitled "Epilogue" was really the story climax. To read a true epilogue, there is a link at the end of the book that goes to an "Extended Epilogue."

The one saving grace was, other than a couple of wrong word choices, the writing was well edited.

Depressing

I read for pleasure not to be depressed. This story was a nightmare page after page. I am sorry that I bought it.

I truly enjoyed the two main characters in this book. There is too much detail and trivia in the story.

Lady Myra Walsh is a well-brought-up lady who could never do anything wrong. She did not want to ever get married. Her parents insisted she go along to a ball as her mother insisted she needed a husband. Who would take care of them if her father died?
Ewan Griffith, the Duke of Tarnton, has had a rough time. His parents were killed when he was a child and he suffered terrible injuries to his leg. He never left his home as he couldn't stand people staring at him. His aunt insisted he attend a ball as he needed to find a wife and produce an heir.
These two meet and have a nice chat. They become friends and friendship becomes love. There are rumors about both of them in the gossip sheet. Then her father gives an evil duke permission to court her. Who is telling these lies? Will the evil Duke have his way? Who is trying to keep these two apart? You will love the twist at the end. Characters are fleshed out, the plot is well constructed and the story is very well written. An excellent story! A must-read!
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinions are entirely my own.

This story is about Ewan (a duke) and Myra (the lady he falls in love with). His aunt and her mother encourage their betrothal but her father, for reasons of his own is not happy. So as not to spoilers any parts I will stop there and just say that the story slowly weaves around all the intrigue and complications until everything gets revealed and we find a common denominator causing all this couple’s problems

A captivating read in the regency romance genre. Much to her consternation Lady Mary’s hand in marriage is given by her father to the reclusive Duke who has kept himself closed off since the death of his parents and the loss of a limb in an accident. However the more they meet the more attracted they become. Follow Lady Mary Walsh and Ewan Griffith, the Duke of Tarnton, as they proceed against all odds towards a HEA. I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

A bit cliche

Myra's father must be crazy. Thankfully Ewan recognized Mr. Brooks and set things in place to capture the villains and let his physical limitations allow them to get away. I wouldn't want to be Myra's father when her mother finds out what happened. Loved Myra's sister, Emily, who seemed to have a logical mind. Her brother, Rowland, on the other hand is a milquetoast.

Great story

As usual boy meets girl and pursues her. Girl likes boy but there are obstacles in the path to true love.
Here's the rub. Lies are being published in the gossip pages defaming both parties.
All involved are trying to get to the root of the problem.
The duke realizes part of the solution but nobody expects the actual outcome!

Unusual love story

Myra and the lame Duke are meant to be together as both are shy and love books. The scandals follow them no matter what they do. Who wants to prevent them from getting married. The mystery is intriguing.

I enjoyed the story about Duke Ewan and Lady Myra. However, the ending was very abrupt and I was left wanting to know what happened to Lord Clifton and Mr Brooks. There was not an epilogue so I don't know if Ewan and Myra eventually married.

Terrible ending!

The premise was good, but a twisted, tangled journey to an abrupt end. An epilogue would have been much appreciated

SETTING: His parents murdered before his very eyes and he himself suffering a broken leg while escaping the murderers, Ewan Griffith, now the Duke of Tarnton, has never completely recovered the use of his leg. Thus damaged, he has kept withdrawn from society until it is time to meet the woman his Aunt has found for him. Lady Myra Walsh is a beautiful young woman, rather a Bluestocking, much to her parent’s chagrin. Unbeknownst to her, her father the Earl of Clifton has been negotiating marriage contracts for her, hoping to gain a financial advantage from her marriage. This had led to various undesirable men seeking her attention. Eventually, Ewan’s aunt and the Earl engage in contract talks for the couple, though they have yet to meet. It is at this point we enter into the story.

CRITIQUE: Ewan and Myra are appealing characters and elicit sympathy for their situations from the reader. In addition to the normal awkward situations the young couple have when initially meeting and coming to know one another, they find themselves the object of scurrilous newspaper gossip columns that place them in the limelight. Surprising twists and turns take place, that our Myra’s life on the line, before our Hero rides to the rescue!
This is a clean story and appropriate for younger readers as well as adults.

Re-read this as I quite enjoyed it. The ending is bizarre as no closure and the link for the extended epilogue doesn't work on any of Hanna's books now so completely left hanging.

Hate extended epilogues anyway. If it's worth reading, put it in the book for god's sake!

Disappointed 😞
