Rate this book

This a series of short essays on a wide variety of current and sometimes complex topics. Each one is explained clearly and are pretty light. The author is intelligent and writes well. I'd prefer more depth for the topics, but this is a Beginner's Guide, so I guess I shouldn't complain. This is a series of starting points with an excellent glossary.

I really appreciate the NetGalley advanced copy for review!!

If you studied Business you know 80% of the book content, but is a good reminder plus some topics are updated to 2020 (useful if you went to school +5years ago)

Money is a medium of exchange allowing people to store value over time and it serves as a unit of account.

Bitcoins is total anonymity and many operations are set in colder climates that allow less cost to cool computers.

Economics entails keeping one eye on inflation and the other on unemployment.

Switzerland, Australia, Israel, New Zealand and Canada have between 20% and 30% of their residents foreign born. The United States hads only 13%.

Globalization opens doors. Jobs are constantly being created and destroyed.
Capitalism is based on change.

Excellently informative and concise. This touched on some subjects that I have heard of but didn't really know anything about. This isn't an in depth exploration of each topic, but has definitely served as a good starting point to delve further into the topics of interest.

It's a good reference for some basic economics that include new ideals based on gig work. This would be a good book to start conversations with other econ nerds. The chapters are standalone, meaning you can read the chapters based on what your interest is at the time. I do recommend this book.

As a starting point to understand the various macrolevel interactions that happen in the 21st century, this book does that. It, doesn't, however, enter much into detail of any subject.

Nice and informative, each chapter focuses on a different aspect of the global economy well, but there is no clear theme within the book. Just a great introduction to the most important features.

Amazing and valuable book. Strong economic principles are explained in an extremely understandable way. Also, the glossary of economic terms is a great addition. I highly recommend.

If you've read an Econ textbook lately, you should be able to spot the overly simplistic theories and flat-out wrong conclusions.

The book is what it proclaims itself to be— an economics 101 to the modern economy. I would’ve wanted a more scrupulous analysis of blockchain and AI though.
