Making You Mine

Rate this book
I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want him...

Things haven’t been going great for me lately. Desperate for an escape, I book a flight to a sleepy seaside town. Juniper Cove is the perfect place to camp out, lick my wounds while sipping sugary cocktails, and return to the life I planned out when I’m good and ready.

What I don’t plan for is seeing him again.

Drew Kent.

My childhood crush, all grown up.

A smile that makes my heart flutter. A wicked sense of humor that makes me blush. A hard, muscular body that I immediately want wrapped around me.

A single father who has sworn off dating.

Impossible to have. Impossible to avoid in this small town.

I’ve never craved anyone the way I do Drew. But I can’t have him. His heart is locked away, and mine is across the country.

But even with all those reasons between us, I can’t help but want to make him mine.

Making You Mine is a standalone small town, single dad romance full of love and laughter and a guaranteed HEA!

Short and sweet....

This was a lovely short and sweet romantic novel. Once I started getting into the story, it was hard to put down.

I really liked Madeleine as a character and found her very relatable. I was constantly rooting for her to have a happily ever after.

Madeleine, at the start of the book has escaped to Juniper Cove, a quiet and sleepy town surrounded by a kind hearted community, in the hope of getting her life back together after a stressful ordeal back in New York. While there, she re-encounters her teenage crush, Drew.

I quite liked Drew and he came across as a very caring, kind and sincere character. Despite this, I did feel he could of been a bit of a deeper character with a bit more drive. I also wish there were more chapters from his point of view.

I also really like the introduction of some of the other characters, such as Rose and Christine, and how they helped thread the story together.

If anything else, I would of liked the book to have been a little longer. Overall though, this was a really enjoyable read providing the perfect escape.

Madeline finds herself at a point in her life in New York that she needs a change. Her writing career has come to a screeching halt because of her jerk of an agent. As a teenager she spent a great summer at her uncle's house in Juniper Cove and has since inherited that house. She decides it's a good time to go back to Juniper Cove and see if she can find a new plan for her life. She soon finds that she has made a good decision. She's made friends, and even reconnects with her summer crush. But as she is trying to find her new plan, she reverts back to her non-ideal way of dealing with problems, by running away from them. She needs to find a better way to deal with them, if she wants the life that she's seen a glimpse of!!

I enjoyed Maddie's story - there were some things that she did that made me shake my head, but overall, I loved her. And I especially loved Drew! I had to keep reading to find out if they were going to get their happily ever after together!

Madeline never planned to come back to Juniper Cove. But suddenly it's impossible to stay away...
When she flys back to the small town of her childhood, Madeline is completely unprepared for what is about to happen, specifically being unprepared for -- single father and my one-time childhood crush -- to take an interest in me.

A lot can change in ten years. I expected my teenage fantasies to stay fantasies. Now, they're devastatingly possible. I should stay away. There's no need to get tangled up in small town life, not with a single father, even if those eyes see me in a way no one else does. I should avoid him. Stay away. Go back to the city at the end of the summer. I really, really mean to.

But everywhere Madeline goes, she runs into him. And when they share one night, alone, together in a way she only ever dreamed of...Madeline forgets all the reasons she would have to say no. Madeline wonders should she leave? Madeline doesn't think so. But when Drew wants something, he's tends to get it. And he wants to make Madeline his.

Spanish & English Opinion

🇲🇽 Me encantó la historia. Primero, quiero irme a vivir a Juniper Cove.

🇺🇸 I loved this! First, I wanna go live in Juniper Cove. Then, Drew is the perfect guy. He’s honest, a hard worker. He’s super considerate, hot and sexy 💜

Maddie is a really nice girl. I felt her anguish and need for avoiding things that make her awkward or hurt her. I feel everyone has felt like that at some point so it’s easy to relate. The twins are amazing and Drew’s family is the best!

Are we getting Rose and Landon’s story? We need it!

The author has pulled us into the lives of Madeline and Drew and never lets go. Madeline heads to a small town and the house she inherited to figure out what she wants to do with her life. As she reconnects with her childhood crush, things do not run smoothly for them. You keep turning the pages, hoping that they can have their happily ever after.

I liked this book. Madeline and Drew were both ok characters but what kept me from giving it more stars was that they were both a little wishy washy. I get protecting yourself, but I didn't feel like either character's experiences should have led to them being so guarded. The story was good and the supporting characters were fantastic, but I felt like the main characters were somehow just lacking. That being said, I would probably still read another book in the series.

“It’s hard to be thankful when you’re full of regrets.”

Madeline and Andrew's story is your typical love story with a twist. I really enjoyed Drew's character. The entire Kent family is well written. Maddie's character has her share of issues but they don't effect their HEA.

New start in life, hot reunion with teen crush who's now a devoted dad, yes it's a little bit of a romance novel stereotype but only in all the best ways! I fell in love with Madeline and Drew as they fell in love with each other despite their best intensions. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Madeline's dream has been ruined. She always wanted to be a published author, and after the deaths of her parents, she focuses all of her time and energy on finishing her book. But when her agent crushes her self-confidence and calls her book trash, she realizes just how much she's shut out the world and how alone she really is. But when she decides to venture back to one of her favorite places on Earth to recuperate and find her new passion and dream, she isn't expecting the friends and love she will find there. Drew, on the other hand, was closed off from the world, focusing on raising his twin daughters and surviving his mother's constant matchmaking attempts in their small town. But when he sees Madeline again after so long, the crush he felt for her back then comes back full force and it only takes a short time for him to fall for her even though he knows he should keep his distance.

Madeline and Drew were fine. I didn't really like them as a couple, and it didn't feel like there was any payoff to their romance. Yes, they end up together in the end after they've had their conflicts and growths, but I just didn't care about them. Madeline's main mode of facing her issues was to run away, which is how she ended up in Juniper Cove to begin with. But Madeline and Drew are damaged from their pasts and they struggle to move past them together. I found Drew's reaction towards the end of the book really out-of-character and weird when he had been nothing but supportive for the majority of the book. But there were no other stakes keeping the two apart so his reaction had to act as the catalyst for change in their dynamic and in the conflict of the plot.

I think the side characters were more interesting than the main characters. The twin girls were adorable and too cute when they acted as mini matchmakers for their dad, especially since they really liked Madeline. Then there was Drew's mom and the rest of his family and even Madeline's new friend Rose. They provided comedy, advice, and respite from the struggles of Madeline and Drew's romance. Plus there was the added mystery of Rose's relationship with Landon, Drew's brother. I wanted to see more of that and get to know Rose better throughout this book. Even Deacon was a bit better in his romance than Madeline and Drew were in theirs. And we didn't even see him with his wife until the end of the book.

This book had a pretty subpar romance between two lackluster and obnoxious characters with almost zero stakes for a happy ending and a lacking pacing to conflict. Even the antagonist and conflict in the book (Madeline's agent and the fate of her novel) felt subpar, annoying, and unfinished. It just felt boring and unenjoyable. But I still rated it 3 stars because they had their happy ending and the side characters were interesting to read, plus I'm intrigued by where the Juniper Cove series will shift when Rose's romance with Landon is talked about more.
