Horrifying True Crime Stories: Disturbing True Tales of Murder, Mayhem and The Macabre

As a true crime fan, it seems that there’s no documentary, serial killer case, or horrific tale of murder and mayhem that I’ve not already heard of. This can become tiresome when watching a ‘Forensic Files’ episode I’ve already seen ten times before or flicking through true crime books only to be re-reading cases I know inside out. However, I know there’s more to learn about true crime than I already know, I just need to seek it out; the cases that were buried, the ones that didn’t receive the attention they deserved, or the ones so gruesome even the press held back on reporting about it. With this in mind, I set out to research the most intriguing cases I’d not yet heard of, and I was taken aback by the number of cases I’d never come across. Not only that, but the sheer depravity of some of the murders I’ll tell you about was sometimes a little hard to read. Some were outright bizarre. Others had me wondering how we have such evil wandering the earth. Some left me questioning why we can’t do more to prevent such senseless brutality from one person to another.

Well that was a quick read. Read this on my phone from Google Ebooks. It was free. Why not. And a few of these murderers I have never heard of. But their crimes are so grotesque and brutal and ritualistic that I'm surprised I haven't. I had to stomach a few of these. Awful. Just how one human being can treat another like that. And in the most inhumane and humiliating forms. I will not go into detail but just know if you read this, prepare for some hard core brutal truth.

Wow what a read. I literally read the book in one sitting. Reading one case to the next I just couldn't put it down. Very well written and detailed.

I would highly recommend listening to this short book. The well curated stories enlighten that evil
knows no gender, no sex, no age and that most perpetrators hide their depravation as normal society contributors.

As the book finished and the author hoped we liked her recounts it was difficult to agree that indeed this record was to be liked, but her work and research have to be commanded.

These true international stories were challenging to listen to, some impossible to comprehend.
It was disturbing to clearly see the unfairness of the justice systems around the world.

Michelle Lee, the narrator, did a fantastic job smoothly and unemotionaly recounting these disgusting facts.The apparent detachment helped going through the inhumane stories.

Surprised in a good way

I normally stick to my usual true crime authors because it seems every time I try a new author I am not happy with their writing. But this time I must admit I really like what I was reading and I was pleasantly surprised! The author got their point across without letting their opinion take over.
So if you are looking for a really good author and a great read then look no further! I could not find anything to be unhappy about except I wish she had more books!!!

I enjoyed this much more than the first book by this author that I read. For both books they were very well researched and offered facts about each case not just personal opinions. The only reason I didn’t give five stars was the fact that there were some errors in the book of the spelling and grammatical kind. There were not as many as there were in Killer Children but there were still a few which caused me to have to go back and reread sentences to make sure I was understanding what was meant to be said. All in all this was a great book and I’d recommend it to any true crime lover.

Excellent

Really gruesome crimes, hard to take in how really evil people like this are. I am of the opinion that they should bring back hanging, or lethal injection, for all people like these or all crimes against children. Peodophiles are never put right and should be put out of our misery. This book was well written. Another good point is if you're like me and read at night, you can read one or two chapters at a time. I wish it had been longer

Oh this book was not what I thought It would be. It was harrowing and terrifying to think what humans can do to each other in this day and age. Danielle must have worked tirelessly to research for this book and can only imagine the details she had to endure.

Such an eye-opening account in what can go on behind closed doors.

This review is specifically regarding the audiobook version of the stories. The narration was strange, but I will say there was a nice combination of old played out stories and new interesting additions!

I did not enjoy the writing style. I felt like I was reading a script from a podcast. I was expecting only facts and more information/details about the cases (a few cases were good!!) but a lot of opinions were inserted as well.

I have read some of the best true crime books of all time so I only read this just to get an intro to cases I was not familiar with so it served it's purpose.
