Laura Burton is a British author who lives in Wiltshire, England with her three wild sons, alpha-male husband, and positively loopy Poochon.
This story picks up right where the first book ended, but also stands well on its own. I enjoyed this one more than the first, it hooked me and kept me turning the pages, I usually enjoy the Red Riding Hood retellings. And isn't that cover pretty??
Story Red is helping her cousin, Robin Hood, find Marian who has been taken by the wolves. The same wolves who killed Red's grandmother. She is out for revenge all while falling for friend, Will Scarlet. Will has a secret of his own, he is a werewolf and can't let Red find out.
Characters Red is a likable heroine, she is very loyal and brave, likes helping others but is growing tired of all the stealing that Robin has them doing, even if it does help their people. I liked her and felt she was easy to relate to. Will is a fun character as well, I'm a sucker for werewolves so I was of course rooting for Will. The supporting cast was good, I liked seeing Robin, Little John, Belle, and of course some of the characters from he first book.
Romancen The romance was good, lots better and more front-and-center then the first book. Red and Will have been friends for a long time and are getting to the point where they can't deny their feeling any longer. They had good chemistry and a fun storyline.
Overall, this was an entertaining read. I am really enjoying the world building and how the authors are weaving in the different fairytales and making it their own. I like that the books wrap up well, but also leave you curious to find out what will happen next. Fun series.
This was so full of action, mystery, magic, and romance! The stories of Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood go perfectly hand in hand, both authors ingenuity really flourish. Red is such a dynamite character, and Will Scarlet is given more depth and character to his story. Robin however was a prig. The rhythm of the plot was significantly improved, reading at a good pace for the story to develop.
I love how interconnected all these characters are to each other. Majority of people have siblings (excluding moi) so it was great to read about different family dynamics between all the characters! Not only that, there are friendships that get woven together to create interesting interactions. There's a twist at the end that I did not see coming, regarding who the alpha of the pack is.
Once again, I absolutely loved the authors' style of writing romance! It was a good dose of steamy sweetness without being over the top and crude (which is just my personal taste) and flowed organically.
This was such an engaging read and really highlighted the authors thriving storytelling! I cannot wait to read more and more from this series and see what the authors do next! The Chanted Forest awaits!
Holy crow! Y'all! What is going on here?! Once again I'm at a loss as to what to say for my review. I really do NOT want to give anything away! Just know that I'm hooked on this series and there is no going back now! I'm really going to be sad when I catch up on all the released books.
I'm not going to lie... Red and Will are my favorite! I absolutely adore these two! Maybe it's because of their forbidden love for each other or maybe it's their sizzling chemistry or their loyalty to their group or their protective nature for all those they care about or maybe all of the above and more! Whatever it is, I could NOT put their book down! I may or may not have wanted to call in sick to work just so I could keep reading. 😂 Shhhh... don't tell my boss! 😉 But don't worry... I adulted and went to work. 😝
I am loving this series! It has me feeling all the feels, keeps me on my toes, and on the edge of my seat. I love that I have no clue about what's going to happen next. A few of my bookish friends have received messages like...
"If what just happened really happened, I'm going to hurt somebody!" and "I'm not happy about this! Ugh!" and "READ THE BOOK!!! I NEED SOMEONE TO EXPERIENCE THIS WITH ME!!!" and "What the crap is happening?!?! Holy freaking twists and turns Batman! This is crazy! I'm so confused!" 🤪🤣
Yes... I know I sound like a crazy person but y'all! I blame Ms. Burton and Ms. Cal. If their writing didn't kidnap me and hold me hostage in the Chanted Forest, then I would probably sound cool, calm, and collected. Oh who am I kidding?! I'm always like this when it comes to books I love! 🤣 Now. If you'll excuse me, I hear Beastly Secrets calling my name. I cannot wait to hear Belle's story!
But before I go... I just have to share my casting. Y'all. I. Am. In. Love! What do you think?!
I know, I'm reading way too many fairytale retellings at the moment. They just sound all too awesome and I just want to read them all right away! However, I like how this book has a bigger font and is therefore a quick and easy read. I had a few nights of barely sleeping so I could use something easy today. And, I really love Red Riding Hood retellings! Especially because in most of them she ends up with the wolf.
It's not much of a surprise when we get the first chapter in the second point of view, Will, that we discover he's a wolf. What would a Little Red Riding Hood retelling be if she wouldn't fall in love with the wolf and vice versa? Although I have to admit that this book didn't really feel like a Red retelling. I somehow had the impression the plot was more focussed on Robin and Marian, even though this was Red's and Will's story.
However, I really loved how the wolves fit into this world and story. It's quite clear that even though Red's grandma was killed by a wolf the story is way more complex than she seems to think. And although I really would have loved to see more of the pack and the history of the pack I was quite happy with what we already got, especially since I feel like there is more to come in the sequel to this story, which focusses on Belle.
Because that's the fun part about this entire series. All the characters are somehow connected. We have siblings and cousins and friends. Snow White is the younger sister of the Snow Queen, Red Riding Hood is the Snow Queen's best friend and Robin Hood is Red's cousin. And this tale is connecting all the characters even further. Prince John's brother is Gaston from Beauty and the Beast and Belle is also involved with the pack of wolves.
I can't wait to see what more surprising connections will be revealed in the next book!
This was WAY better than the first one. Still not incredibly written, but a quick easy mindless read. The romance was much better and I feel like the worldbuilding and prose also improved.
I was impressed again with the authors use of different variations of the fairy tales and how they blended them together. The story was all together fresh with just the right amount of nods to the originals. I also really love their use of the unexpected. The story was in no way predictable, regardless of going in knowing the fairy tales. That’s really hard to do with re-tellings.
This story walked a different line than the first. The first book felt very much like K.M. Shea or Melanie Cellier’s fairy tales in their target audience and their romance levels. This one however, was a little steamier. The content never made me uncomfortable, but it is more adult than the first book.
The authors did a fantastic job in their world building, and of developing Red’s motivation. While I I didn’t think the motivation had been built right in the ending of the first book, it has added a fun over arching story line that I am now wholly invested it. Am I going to read the rest of the series, you bet! Will I recommend it to my young adult nieces, probably not.
Ryding Hood (nicknamed “Red” by Will Scarlet) approached the castle for Aria’s coronation. She watched the crown get placed on her head. But something was wrong. Jack’s hair was now white. And Aria didn’t smile. When Red stopped her on the stairs, the expected smile did not reach Aria’s eyes and she turned from Red without even a goodbye.
As people cheered, Aria stood on the balcony and waved to the crowd, telling them they had suffered under the Evil Queen, but now they would get what they deserve. She turned to Prince George, the Evil Queen’s son, whispered to him, then pushed him over the balcony! When he landed in the lake below, she froze the water, then turned again to the people to say now it was time for the rule of The Snow Queen – and she hurled ice and snow in piles and blasted each one to life like an army of ice ogres!
Aria was a monster! What had happened? Jack rushed Aria’s crying sister inside. Red called out to her to stop and her face softened for a moment before she whispered RUN! Red escaped but an enormous ice ogre went after her. She pulled her cloak of invisibility over her, then nocked the arrow on her bow and pierced the ogre’s chest but it came at her again. As it moved in to kill her, flaming arrows pierced the ice ogre and it began to melt as Will Scarlet stepped out from behind a tree.
This story is excellent, as you can tell from what happened right at the start! The action takes off and never quits! And it gets better! Will is my favorite of the characters because he is so much fun as he teases poor Red. The book is well-written, the characters recognizable yet in a new environment interacting with other recognizable characters. So we have characters we know and love seen in a whole new way that we can’t always anticipate. It’s fun! You will definitely not want to miss it, and there is so much more to come!
I loved the idea of Red coming into her own and discovering that her grandmother's demise at the hands of the alpha from the werewolf pack wasn't at all how she imagined, and I truly enjoyed the twist on who that alpha was. The twists this series spins on the fairytales we know and love are decent and make for interesting stories, and I liked how we get to see Aria's trajectory as the Snow Queen but from Red's perspective.
Will also made for a fantastic love interest and secondary MC. He made for an unexpectedly complex character, which I really enjoyed.
However, while these are strong "good points", unfortunately this book got on my last nerve. For the first thing, the fact the authors decided to make this a dual POV narration meant that I knew way too much about Will far too early which took away from any "shock factor" some of his reveals might have had if this story had only been related from Red's point of view. Second, if you're a horse-lover or close to anyone who is horse mad, be warned. The horses in this book only gallop. They have no other speed setting. And if that pet peeve weren't enough to put me off, these authors continue in the well-trodden tendency of YA authors to simplify life to the point of idiocy. The fight scenes and fire rescue scenes were abysmal and are written in exactly the way that got my hackles up as a teen, which was why I never got into this genre until well into my adulthood. The misrepresentations and blatant lack of research I've encountered in this particular genre is front and center in this book. Multiple infuriating moments had me putting the book down and seeking out something else instead so I could come back later when I was in a better head space.
Thankfully the romance and Will Scarlet kept me intrigued enough that I was able to finish, otherwise I might have DNF:ed this one.

Red Arrows by Laura Burton and Jessie Cal is an outstanding addition to the Fairytales Reimagined series. This wolf shifter romance is full of suspense, adventure, and romance that will keep readers hooked from start to finish.
The authors have created a richly imagined world where classic fairy tales are reimagined, and this installment is no exception. The plot is well-constructed, with plenty of action, twists, and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance between Red and Will is sizzling and intense, and their chemistry is undeniable.
What I particularly loved about this book is how the authors explore themes of loyalty, love, and redemption. Will's struggles with his past and his fear of losing Red are both heart-wrenching and compelling, and his growth throughout the story is handled with sensitivity and depth.
Red is a strong, independent heroine who is not afraid to take matters into her own hands. Her determination to seek revenge for her grandmother's death adds a layer of complexity to her character that makes her even more compelling.
The writing is excellent, with vivid descriptions and well-drawn characters that leap off the page. The pacing is perfect, with just the right balance of action, romance, and suspense. The ending left me satisfied, but also eager for more.
Overall, Red Arrows is an exceptional wolf shifter romance that will delight fans of the genre. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fairy tale retellings, action-packed romance, and complex, well-drawn characters. Five stars!
Wow, now this is the difference between good and bad storytelling. This book was sooooo much better than “Above the Sea.” I read this book all within one night and refused to sleep before I finished it because I was enjoying it so much. There’s context and details and character/relationship development that “Above the Sea” did not have. The characters in this book have depth to them, which is where “Above the Sea” seriously lacked. Of course I did realize that you should read this series in order, which I didn’t do, so there was some confusion in the beginning since I didn’t have context from the first book, but this didn’t ruin the overall story for me. Red and Will’s love story was great and I was caught off guard by many of the plot twists that were thrown at me. I did find Robin to be annoying at times but that a give in since his character is supposed to act arrogant. Plus I think I would have enjoyed his character more if I read the first book of the series beforehand since a big portion of his storyline with this series is in that book. The book did end on a cliff-hanger so I’m curious to see if the next book “Beastly Secrets” continues this storyline somehow even though the next book is focused on Belle.
While I did like this one more than the first, it’s only for Red and Will’s part.
Unlike with Aria and Jack, Red and Will have known each other for a while, so the relationship isn’t the slap you in the face change that Aria and Jack’s was.
Robin drags this story down so much. His constant whining and lack of care for anyone else’s feelings is so frustrating.
I marked so many parts of the book where he acts like a complete selfish jerk with the intention to mention specifics in my review, but it’s just to much.
You grow tired of him very quickly.
I’m glad his part of the story ended the way it did. I know later on in this series we’ll find a change, but I was pleased with where it currently left off.
The pacing, just like the first book, can also be fast in parts, but it’s more forgivable considering the fact that all these characters already know each other well. A pacing part that is hard to over look though, is the big climax. It’s extremely underwhelming and rushed.
3.75/5⭐️ 1/5🌶️ Tropes:fairytale retelling, romance, fantasy fiction This is the second book In the fairytale reimagined series. This can be read as a stand-alone but it’s recommended to read as a series. This one picks up where the first one leaves off and to be honest this one was better than the first. This one follows reds story as she tries to find the person that murdered her grandma. Along this story she is helping her cousin Robin to find Marian but dealing with will. The romance between them was cute and I love that it connects characters from the first as well as other characters that are throughout the series. This is like once upon the time the show and Disney but retold in a new way and I love it. The retelling was done in such a way that you really find red as the heroine you want to root for and gives you a sense of the original but in a more modern way. I’m really liking this series and I can’t wait to see what the next one has in store.
I took the suggestion of other people and read this series out of order. I started with book 6, heart of glass, but MAN do I regret it. This series really does need to be read in order. The characters, the relationship between non-main characters in each book, the over arching storyline just makes SO much more sense and makes it so much more understandable when read in order. I went back and read the first book and just finished the 2nd. I was compelled to write a review this time. I love this series so far! I can relate it to the "Once Upon A Time" TV show, how it has the fairytales we all know and love, but they were changed somehow. They also mix the fairytales together, like red riding hood, Robin hood, the snow queen, etc all mixed together, living in the same realm. This series has been so fun and has surprising twists and turns that keeping me wanting to find out what happens next.
I just loved this retelling of a classic, and while it isn't even close to the original, it was just a delightful and enjoyable story! Personally, I enjoyed the interaction with Robin, Will Scarlett, and Little John too. An intriguing storyline that grabs you and keeps you hooked through the epilogue, which promises more good reading soon. The characters are all done tastefully and in with such detail and, it enables the reader to feel the interaction with them in "actual time". A few times they almost walked off the pages. A very good job by Laura Burton and Jessie Cal! Although this is advertised with "heat" (and I prefer relatively clean romance) I couldn't tell you where or what is was. A fresh new retelling of a classic fairytale.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
I know I’ve been reading way too many fairytale retelling this year, but it makes me happy! This story of Red Riding Hood is far different than ones I’ve read in the past. Especially in most of them, she ends up with the wolf or falls for each other…vice versa. Although I somehow had the impression that the plot was more focused on Robin and Marian, even though this was soupy to be Red’s and Will’s story. Even though I’ve been reading this series out of order, it’s still fun to read and easy to follow along. All these characters are fully connected to one another. There’s siblings, cousins, and friends. For example - Snow White is the younger sister to the Snow Queen, who’s Red’s best friend. And Robin Hood and Red are cousins, Prince John’s brother is Gaston, and the wolf pack surrounds The Beast and
I enjoyed watching that series, Once Upon A Time. It brought back the fairytales but gave it an interesting twist. And now reading this retelling is even more fascinating. It has humor, angst, mystery, and love set in a slightly more mature setting but still reliving fairy tales. And one does still wish for their happily ever after. Always.
The story delves across all genres of fairytales and I found this to be one of the more appealing factors to draw readers in. Who would have thought shifters worked in the story of the Little Red Riding Hood. It was fun to piece together the connections between all the characters and see how they fit and contribute to the story. Well-written, save for some typos. But all in all, a fun story to fall into!
I have not read book 1 before reading book 2. I did enjoy the story and feel it can be read without having read book 1 first. There is the feeling that more has happened before this story and it has in book 1. Enough of the main points are filled in that I wasn't lost.
I was taken with Red from the beginning. I enjoyed learning more about the characters. I was surprised by the secrets they kept. I could understand their fear and reasons for keeping them. Their lives would change irrevocably if revealed. May of my favorite fairy tale characters show up. I was not expecting to see Belle.
I am looking forward to catching up with book 1 and joining their next adventure in book 3.
I received an advanced copy of this story and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
In this reimagined story book Red is hanging with Robin and a wolf has killed her grandmother. Will Scarlet is a merry man in love with Red with a secret and a sister named Belle who has an even bigger secret. Marian has been kidnapped more than once and has multiple suitors but doesn’t want to play by the written pages words from the intruder that came through the mirror with the mysterious book. Aria isn’t nice anymore and Snow can talk to animals. This was a fun, action filled, interesting, exciting romance that had twists thrown in that weren’t expected. While the key characters are there, the stories are intertwined so the characters meet and play together. Fun fun fun.

"Red Arrows " a re-imagined tale is nothing close to what you would expect. Jesse and Laura have added dept and dimension to our beloved fairy tale, " Red Riding Hood" with such a delicious twist in that our heroine is anything but frightened of the big, bad wolf, Will Scarlett whom she believed allegedly killed her grandmother. If anything, there is a crackling, potent desire which they both try to contain. A cross between "Twilight" and "Frozen", will stun you as they traverse dangerous places and take on sinister enemies together. This is a fabled, romantic, suspenseful remaking of a fairy tale fit for adults!
I received an ARC copy for which I have voluntarily posted a review.
Better than the previous book in the series. Still confusing at times, but less than the other one. The book had hints of romance, littered in with adventure. This book, though, about Red Riding Hood's story with the wolf, also had a lot with Robin Hood as well. The authors inter-mingled their story lines together. The previous two main characters from the first book made brief appearances and all their storylines tangle together in the Chanted Forest, some in unexpected ways. The female characters are strong-willed and are not afraid to get dirty. I found I was on the side of the main male character for most of the book.
You can definitely tell these are YA books. I would even said geared more towards the 10-12 age range. This one has a bit more sexuality in it than the first one did but the writing style is still geared to be very young. For example, they are trying to convince someone to join them on their cause and instead of the person putting up a fight it is an automatic yes. No hesitation, no questioning even though they were against it for years. It's just minor details that make the writing very immature.
They are quick, easy light reads, and I did enjoy this one more than the first one. I will still read the series.
I really love this retelling of Red Riding Hood & the wolf. But Red is grown up & wanting to avenge her grandmother's death. Thus she is searching for the wolf who killed her. But there is a second story within. That is Robin Hood & Marion along with Little Jon. There is a twist, of course, that makes the whole book different from the original stories. You also need to read these stories in order to fully appreciate them. This one ends in a cliff-hanger. I can't wait for the final one. I received a copy from Ms. Burton. I am under no obligation to leave this review but do it voluntarily.
This is book 2 in Fairytales Reimagined series by Laura Burton. A great re-telling of classic Red Riding Hood. While I wish I had read book 1 prior to this read, I was still able to follow the story line without issue and enjoy (although would probably have enjoyed it more had I read in order). Great action that captures your attention from the start and continues thru out and does end on a cliffhanger so be forewarned...
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is an adult version of Red Riding Hood mixed with Robin Hood and his Merry Men. I have never particularly cared for Robin stories but will say that this is a very interesting mix where Red is Robin's cousin and is treated with all the respect of his men. She is not a weakling woman in need of help as a lot of fairytales treat females but is a strong warrior like Robin Hood. And, yes, there are wolves involved in the story too. Interesting, well-written story.
