Crusade of Murder

Rate this book
In this latest Templar Knight Mystery, Bascot de Marins is appointed to lead an investigation into a series of murderous attacks on Templar brothers.

When a Templar man-at-arms is mysteriously assassinated on the streets of London, it is considered a random attack. But some months later, when a second brother is killed near Lincoln, and then a third is wounded, it becomes obvious that a deadly campaign is being waged against the warrior monks.

In concert with Gerard Camville, the sheriff of Lincoln, Bascot investigates the murders but, despite their best efforts, not a trace of the killer is discovered. As the attacks continue, both are frustrated by the lack of clues to his identity, and it is not until an unexpected witness comes forward with revealing evidence that a trail is found for them to follow.

My tenth book from this author, and I plan in future to dip into those I have missed along the way. The Templars seem to be under attack and it takes a number of people working diligently to finally discover who has been on their own crusade to take them down whenever possible.

This was a disappointing entry in what has generally been an enjoyable series. I felt like I was reading a draft where the book's outline was fleshed out but still needed more work in character development and building suspense.

Templar Knight Series

The author Maureen Ash has created a very enjoyable series. The characters are interesting and and their interactions wholly credible. Each book contains a murder to investigate with may a twist and turn which keeps one continually guessing as to “Who Done It !”The historical and political aspects are touched on with a light hand and assist in making for a great read. I highly recommend this series and just wish there were more than 11 books in the series.

Excellent

Never fails to capture the imagination and gives the reader, (me) the feelings of being there. The characters, from the very beginning are brilliant. Looking forward to the next adventure!

Believable

This is a wonderful series! Start with any book, order doesn't matter, because the author gives enough clues to allow the reader to enjoy the tale. However, one will not be sufficient.

Short but engaging read

A quick read following the adventures of the Templar and his adopted son Giovanni. Part of an ongoing story of the pair solving murders and mysteries. Engaging and satisfying.

Always a pleasure

Simple story, well written, neither too much or too little explanation of the age in which the story is set.

Felt the writing style in this spoiled it somewhat. Not sure why but it felt as though thebstory was being told in a very point the dots fashion

I give this one 3 1/2 stars. I've loved all of the Templar Knight mysteries and am not sure why I missed this one coming out. However, I found this plot very wooden and the prose stiff. Maybe all of them are like that, and I was biased by the fact that I had just finished Paladin by Sarah Woodbury. Her writing style is so lovely and fluid, I believe Ash's faltered in comparison. Still, it was a good story. I love the way Gianni is growing into a man who will soon have a family of his own while Bascom stays true to his calling. However, this was definitely not one of her best.
