My Review

This book was seriously amazing I experienced so many different emotions throughout and I adored every single second of Killian and Violet's journey together.
This is the first book in a duet and genre-wise it’s a slow burn romance with some elements of organised crime included.
It is set in the same world as the Ferraro brothers but you don’t need to have read that series to appreciate this one it’s a completely separate standalone duet.

This was such a trip a sort of back to front love story which places Killian in the unlikely role of Violet’s knight where he proceeds to place his personal chips down in such a way that this time around he walks away with the girl unlike three years ago and the house always wins.

Violet is so broken three years of emotional abuse and gaslighting have left her a shadow of her former self all she wants now is a life separate from Ray who terrifies and intimidates her the love she once felt for him has turned completely sour and she just wants out.

Killian bulldozing his way into her life and taking charge is something she is incredibly grateful for he gives her an easy way out.
She also feels drawn to him but doesn’t feel she now has anything left to offer or at least not at this moment.
She also running scared her emotional state still fragile and doesn’t want to jump headfirst into something she may later regret.

But Killian is like a tornado battering down her walls with his charisma and allure, He wants Violet and isn’t afraid to lay his cards on the table. He pulls out all the stops and Violet’s never been treated so well.
This forged the bond between Killian and Violet with baby steps and by the time these two connected you could singe your fingers on their combined heat.
The slow burn was so very well done and I totally believed in the bond that eventually developed.

Of course, there are secrets and lies here stuff that is going on behind the scenes.
Violet is actually adorably naive when it comes to Killian and what he is capable of the girl really has no clue who she’s now in bed with.
While Killian he will do whatever to keep Violet safe in her bubble and oblivious.
This one ends on a cliffhanger and god it was good and I now need the conclusion like yesterday.
Anyone worried about being left hanging don't, it's not that kind of cliffhanger this does have some resolution and it's more of an Oh my god you so didn't kind of one.

This was of course really well written this author is a definite auto-buy of mine and her stories always deliver every time and this one is no exception.
Totally recommend this one and I devoured it.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Kill Game.

the Cliffy is just so good 😮‍💨

Okay okay. I CANNOT BELIEVE what I just read. HOLY MOTHA FREAKING CLIFFHANGER has me GASPING!!!!! I did NOT see this coming omagawd!!!!!!! I was wondering why there was a duet and OH $hit I now know why!!!!! GAHHHH 😱😱😱 (this review is from 2021)

Jesus. Where do I even begin?!! I can’t even focus right now! My mind is reeling with the different possible scenarios that could happen in book 2.

So, the book starts off with Violet and Ray’s perspective. Violet has been with him for three years and is experiencing a psychological, emotional, and even kind of physically abusive relationship. Ray is basically a deadbeat. He doesn’t have a job, he lives off of Violet, uses her car, takes her money and has her cards with him while she is forced to take the bus to go to work. And all of this is fine with her, because he has molded and forced her to be okay with it all. She has even cut off her relationship with the people that she loves, including her family and her best friend. Ray is always trying to hustle, trying to make a quick buck in any way possible; one of the ways is gambling. This comes back to haunt him when he meets up with Killian.

Killian actually saw Violet three years before, when he and Ray made a bet as to who would get her number. Ray won the bet, so he goes up to Violet and initiates a relationship with her. Three years later, they see each other again and Killian goes over and figures out that Violet isn’t happy and the relationship that she has is NOT a good one. Because Violet has been emotionally worn down, she doesn’t have fight left, and somehow, Killian senses this and gives Ray an opportunity for a job that requires him to leave. Violet, who’s been done with this relationship, seizes the opportunity to try rebuilding her life and gets back in touch with her best friend who’s going to help her end the relationship with Ray. She’s determined to move on with her life, and, in order to do this, Killian offers her to stay with him so that she is safe and away from Ray. She agrees to stay with him while Ray pays off the debt he owes Killian. Of course, during this time, the fireworks ignite between Killian and Violet.

This book is definitely more of a slow burn, compared to what I’m used to reading from DD Prince. They don’t kiss until about 60% in and they don’t have sex until after 70%. However, it is totally worth the wait!! Killian is very patient with Violet because she has gone through a lot; she’s traumatized and scarred from the relationship with Ray. He understands this and knows that she needs time, space, and compassion. But, he is also extremely attracted to her, just like she’s very much attracted to him, and he doesn’t want to slow down. She puts the brakes on a lot because she feels like everything is moving too fast, and Killian is an angel and respects her boundaries, until she finally gives in, and holy hell was it 🔥😉🤤😅🥵. The intensity of their chemistry is *chef’s kiss* and so hooooot🔥!

Many times, I was wondering “did DD Prince write this?” Lol I’m so used to her super alpha/controlling/possessive Hs (and Killian is- but also SO SWOONY🥰 and SO SWEET❤️) that Killian was a breath of fresh air. He’s very much j/p YET he gives her what she wants/needs because she’s trying to find herself again after dealing with deadbeat Ray. Also, he calls her baby (insert fainting gif here). Gah. I love him.

Now, things are not always what they seem. Everything seem so good, everything was going so perfect, and then the last few percentages had me questioning so many things. When I got to that part, the whole time my face was like this 😱😳🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. Like, wtf? WTF?!?! It was like I was trying to do calculations for calculus without a calculator or a piece of paper. And then… gah… the ending 🤯😱😳🙈🤭. I didn’t see it coming… I am at a loss for words!

I NEED BOOK 2! Like, it needed to be out yesterday!

⚠️safety squad⚠️possible spoilers
-no cheating
-mild OWD (all before H and h are together)- all one sided- two exes appear in the book. One shows up at his apartment, wearing a trench coat 🙄, but he quickly tells her off and gets rid of her. The other tried to entice him when H and h are at one of his businesses- but he turns her down and even questions her (same with the other one); H really only has eyes for h (swoooon)!
-OMD- well, Ray is her ex and he’s very much a huge complication in the book 😬
-some info about H’s childhood is revealed- physically abusive childhood/dead mom, etc
-a character is tortured- we don’t see it happen, but we get told in the aftermath
-huge CLIFFY

D. D. Prince you did it again! Another hot and riveting story that I did not want to read "the end"!
Violet is struggling in her current relationship, she has lost a part of herself, and is trying to find a way out of this hell she is living in with Ray. He is gaslighting her.
Along comes Killian (who is my new BBF by the way) and he rescues her in the the most unconventional way, and she finds herself in another predicament with Kill, but he seems like such a perfect specimen of Alpha male, strong and sure, confident and cocky.
This book captured me from the very first page, and kept me up late to read one more chapter!
But D.D., that ending, oh my goodness, please don't leave me hanging there!

This book was not what I expected. It is a psychological suspense with alot of twists and turns. Violet has dealt with emotional and verbal abuse for the past 3 years to the point of no self confidence. She lost her friends, family and dignity. Ray manipulated her without her even knowing what was happening until it was too late. To her good fortune, Killian reappears in her life. Through him she regains everything she lost and more. Violet keeps wondering how her life is so wonderful now, believing her luck has changed. The cliff hanger left me thrown for a loop. I did not see this coming. I cannot wait for book 2!

Killicious

DD has this amazing ability to write characters who could be you, your cousin, your sister... All her heroines are beautiful, flawed, and relatable.

This book is her best so far, by far. DD is the master example other authors should emulate: she has the trifecta of immersive character and relationship arcs, deeply emotive storytelling, and suck-you-in world building.

I found myself trying to pace my reading so the boom would last longer. I just didn't want to leave. You will want to stay, too.

This book is good enough to read and reread several times. I can't wait to see what DD will do next.

What can I say about Killian Coulter? Well he is a dark haired, green eyed alpha male who gets what he wants. He wanted her three years ago. However, Ray won the toss. So, Killian bide his time.

Violet is sweet, hard working, and is done with the life she has with Ray. He has taken her away from her friends and family. Ray has problems. Big problems. He owes money for his gambling debts and Violet has done everything to help him, financially and emotionally. She has gotten him out of trouble financially more than once. He is not going to change. So, she made the decision to sever ties with Ray. He continues to play mind games with her and makes her feel bad about leaving. Enter, Killian Coulter.

Killian sees how broken Violet is now because of Ray. He comes up with a plan to get Violet and to get Ray out of the picture. He is not Mr. Innocent. Not by a long shot. However, he truly cares about Violet and will do whatever he can to protect her and keep her away from Ray.

I do not give big spoilers. So, all I can say here is that Killian is full of surprises. He is a sexy alphamale who gets what he wants. Violet was not expecting Killian, but oh what a wonderful surprise he was. This is book one of the Duet. I cannot wait for Book 2.

Yes, there was a cliffy involved, however, it was bound to happen with all the greatness that this book entails. Kudos to one of my favorite authors ever. You never cease to amaze me DD.

Wow just wow! I thought I knew where this story was going. I knew it was a cliffy and in my mind had it all figured out what the cliffhanger was going to be. Was I ever wrong! It was so much better and intriguing! Kill is much darker(yeah!) then I realized and I like that! Violet is a complex and great character who through the support of Kill is finding herself again. I love their relationship. I cant wait to see what comes next. I hope July comes quick!

I never know what to expect from this author because every book that she writes, and is part of the reason that I adore her, is different. Even with seeing teasers, I wasn't sure if this was going to have a Dominator vibe or more of an alpha possessive vibe that the Valentine men have. Color me surprised, even though I shouldn't be, that she made it uniquely a Killian vibe.

If I had to describe this, I would say a slow burn romance. At times, it reminded me of a KA novel by the way that the characters interacted and their mannerisms. I was more than okay with that considering that KA is my all-time favorite and this author is who introduced me to her. There were other times though that I kept getting a nagging feeling that I was not seeing the whole picture. The twists toward the end of this book let me know that I was right, just not in the way that I was expecting.

This doesn't have the in-your-face mafia/criminal undertones that I was expecting from a spinoff character. Surprisingly, I was okay with that despite thinking that I was wanting the same bit of darkness that the Dominator series or Saved had. It was refreshing, instead, to see two characters grow and come to appreciate the what-if moments of what had happened three years prior.

Violet was a strong character. I was sympathetic to her character and the predicament that she had found herself in. The author handled that with care and compassion. So often, it is easy to judge someone for not getting out of a situation like hers, but I saw it through her eyes and understood it differently. Killian... what can I say about this character other than he is complex and delicious. The twist at the end of this book about what he is like had me smiling a big Cheshire grin. I loved that he wanted Violet to have the opportunity to be carefree and joyful with life again. He made me swoon a few times. Just when I thought he was a big softie, he would do something that made my kindle heat up (a certain conversation with Ray was HOT) and that fact that he was respectful of Violet made him even hotter.

This ends on a pretty serious plot twist. It might kill me to wait until summer for the conclusion to this duet. As always, I need this author to clone herself and write faster because I am addicted to her words.

**Chef’s kiss**

Yet again I have fallen in love with a DD Prince man.
This time it's Killian Coulter.

This man… **swoon** this man built up a broken Violet (the h) and put her pieces back together. He gave her back her confidence and her voice, and even the life that her ex-POS cruelly held from her. For that alone I will forgive any... ahem... happenings that Violet might not be privy to, nor like.

This isn't a dark read, or a mafia read but has been created within the same world where other DD Prince characters live.
Side characters are awesome. I laughed out loud many times, and I especially love Violet’s bestie, Suze.
…..and Killian has a brother… JUST SAYIN’!! **bites knuckle**

There is NO cheating at all - in fact, he shuts down anyone who doesn’t know their place. His heart is for Violet and he has no qualms in saying so.
So dreamy.

I loved the world building and cameo appearances. It’s well set up for the second book in this duet.
There’s several fantastic twists that had my evil heart squealing with glee! No spoilers though, but that ending? Ooof! LOVED IT!

Read it! This story isn’t a smash in the face, nor requires a hard heart to read... that being said, I don’t know what tables will turn in book 2!! Dun-dun-duuuunnn! lol

It has a lot of feel-good moments. I could relate to Violet's and Killian's actions and I supported their progression throughout the story.

Others have called this a slow burn, but honestly, you don’t even notice (well, I didn't). I got caught up with Violet’s healing and Killian’s nurturing that when it came time for the sexy to happen, I was all, "Yeah!! You go, girl. You can do it. He's waiting for you." **more swooning**

5/5 Will read again!

I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.

From the first moment that the writer DD Prince mentioned this story ‘Kill game’, I have been waiting for it. Because after reading and enjoying this writer’s mafia books, I was looking forward to another story that would take place in that (mafia) world and although Killian isn’t really a mobster (so far I discovered, he’s still a bit of a mystery to me), the story does have the same vibe as a mafia book. This book isn’t dark but it does handle a difficult theme, that of being in a toxic relationship and emotional abuse and gaslighting. But that wasn’t the only emotional thing in the story. There was also the ‘what ifs’, what if I had done that differently?! But the story is also about strength, finding yourself back again, love and passion. And even with those ‘heavy’ emotions In the book, I still found myself smiling throughout the story. Violet and her girlfriends could be really funny and sassy at times, especially during a night out when they were tipsy. For me, the book had a perfect balance between emotional depth and light, funny banter.

So…the two main character Violet Gates and Killian Coulter. They were really great. The story started when Violet was still together with Raymond. We got to known her in that situation where she’s broken, quiet, demure and unsure and then we got to see her blossom and become strong again under the loving attention of Killian and with the support of her girlfriends and family. It was wonderful to see that change in her. Violet was really a lovely character, she was kind, attentive, giving, loyal, sassy at times, intelligent. And then you have Killian, definitely an alpha man, hardworking, intelligent, protective, ambitious, bossy, sexy and mysterious. Yes!, Even after a whole book, he’s still a bit of a mystery to me. He still has secrets that we have to discover. I LOVE that!!! The many secondary characters in this story were very interesting too. Killian’s brother Willie, Violet’s best friend Susanna, Violet’s family and Killian’s friends and employees. Dario and Tommy also made an appearance in the story! I was so happy to see them back.

In the story you get both POV’s and it has a slow burn feeling to it although the story itself takes place in a few weeks/months but it all feels really natural how the feelings grew between Violet and Killian.

Sometimes you read a book that you know will be on your mind for a few more days after and this story is it for me. I’m still processing scenes and emotions and as a reader I love that. The book is part of 'The devious games duet' so you know going in that it will end with a cliffhanger and although I was prepared for it. I hadn’t expected that ending!! The writer have Killian and Violet an ending that you know will cause big problems for their relationship and make their HEA a bit harder to find! But I can’t wait to read how the writer will make their HEA possible!! Because I know that DD Prince will make that happen for Violet and Killian!

If you have read this writer her mafia and bikers books and loved those ones, give this one a try too.

Eh.

This was a weird book. Weird in its contradictions, I suppose. It’s kind of a slow burn, but it’s also kind of a kidnapping/entrapment book.

Violet is the abused girlfriend of a total jerk Ray and he brings home an old friend who Violet glimpsed the night she met Ray. Killian is rich, handsome and decides he wants Violet and sets about ... a scheme .

I’m not enthusiastic enough to describe it more. I almost stopped reading because the first 20 pages or more are all tell and no show and not engaging.

I don’t enjoy dual POV but Killian’s head was okay. He’s mostly plotting and dithering about Violet. She dithers a lot too.

I guess that is kind of why the book is a mess. On the one hand it’s a dark romance-he steals her by entrapment and schemes, has no plan to let her go and wants vengeance on her ex. But he constantly steps back from putting pressure on her and she is a back and forth mess. If it was a sensible romance, Violet would move out, get help etc, healthy stuff. If it was darker, he’d be more domineering and she’d be into it, swoon etc. it’s like the author can’t make up her mind. Then that cliff hanger. Really really abrupt. But I’m not sure I even care enough to read book 2.

I love a book that packs a punch and this one sure did that for me. I swore that I would never read a book with a cliffhanger until all the books were written, but when one of your favorite authors writes it.... you read it. I'm so glad I did.

These characters became real to me with all the emotions attached to the realness. I was angry, happy, sad, shocked and angry again. Killian and Violet have so much to trudge through and I can't wait to see how book 2 makes that happen. Come on summer!

I highly recommend this book.

Woah!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: (kinda) second chance
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

What a ride! Its a long read, but so very worth it. It definitely needed all those pages for the goodness that makes DD such a fantastic writer: outstanding character development, phenomenal banter and chemistry, and lastly, a storyline that sucks you in and doesn't let go. This was definitely a slow burn, but so worth, especially with how their chemistry made for such a fantastic buildup. So many other things I want to say, but frankly, I just want to dive into the second book after that cliffy, lol. Jillian just showed his crazy and I'm totally here for it, lol!

Kill Game intrigued me from the start. I really connected with Violet's character despite my frustration with her inability to stand up for herself and stand on her own. D.D. Prince really managed to bring her situation to life in such a vivid and honest way, that I just couldn't help but root for this woman. As much as I hated Ray and was frustrated yet empathized with Violet, I was intrigued and captivated by Killian. He is a possessive, bulldozing yet somewhat gentle alpha with an edge who will only change his commitment phobic ways for one woman. Except that one woman requires a lot of patience and an extra push to get her there. Killian definitely worked for me, though I have yet to see that kinky side that was teased but never quite materialized. However, and I'm in the minority here, the story kind of lost steam and floundered a bit in the middle. This is an extremely slow burn and, while I understand the necessity for that due to Violet's circumstances, I just got bogged down by inertia in the second half. It's a testament to this author's writing talent that I kept going despite my misgivings. By that point, I was invested and needed to know what, if anything, will happen. And I'm so glad I stuck it out. The ending, for me, made the entire book. I did not see that twist coming at all and I'm here for it. Definitely can't wait to see where Ms. Prince takes this story in book two.

I don’t read cliffhangers ever unless I have the next book but turn down the opportunity of reading a DD Prince book - never. Do I regret reading and having to wait for book 2 - definitely not. Did I enjoy it - yes it was addictive and I couldn’t put it down. For me the sign of a good book is one which I think about when I’m not reading it and stays with me after I finished it.
Simply put a beautifully written story that slowly weaves its way through an engaging love story and then just when you thought it was all over with a happy ever after you get the kick and twist and it ends - book 2 needed to find out if they make it as a couple. Of course there are twists and turns throughout the story and as it’s linked to the Dominator series there is an edge to the story plus we get Tommy and Dario cameos, as if Killian wasn’t luscious enough. Killian is drop dead gorgeous and Violet beautiful and sweet. This story had everything I wanted and when they finally got it together my eyes nearly popped. I throughly recommend this book even with the cliffhanger it’s a satisfying read.

This is definitely a slow burn. It reminds me of being on a big scary roller coaster . You go up slowly , up , up , up . It feels like it takes a long time and at the very top you stop for a minute, and all of a sudden gravity takes over and you go flying down the track .

This was not what I expected but turned out to be so much more. Since this is a duet we won’t get the conclusion of Violet and Killian’s story until the next book. I can’t wait to find out what happens . My heart is pounding and will be until I see their ending .

Just like always this author writes a masterpiece. I’ve never read a book she wrote that I wasn’t completely in love with . If you haven’t experienced a DD Prince book then you’ve been missing out .

I’m the best of ways! Like when I started reading this I too fell like violet. Killian is so smart and sweet and possessive! But that ending? Yes! I want more. Liberate then dominate killian! Show us more of the remorseless sob who won’t stand for being played! Killian can play games with me any day that ends in y😂

Absolutely loved this book. It was so emotional. My heart did a little jump for joy at the mention of my book boyfriend Tommy from the dominator.
D.D. Prince has the reader gripped from the start of the book to the end not knowing what the outcome will be. I was shocked at the end but cannot wait to read part 2. Definately worth 5 stars.

Oh my word! ❤️❤️❤️ This book ripped me emotionally more so than anything I have read in a long time. DD takes you inside the head of a woman who has given all of herself to a man only to have her crushed under his will.

Violet spends her days walking on eggshells trying to keep her boyfriend (Ray) from exploding, until she becomes nothing more than a shell of herself. Someone she doesn’t recognize anymore. She wants out and can’t get out. Killian walks into her life and seems perfect. He’s caring, considerate, and connected; not to mention obsessed with Violet. Killian wants Vi for himself, how far will he go to make that happen?

DD’s description of the emotional abuse in this book is not for the faint of heart. It was a very emotional read for me. But, that’s what makes writing art. Art makes you feel something and wow did I feel this book. That said, the book was also one of the best slow burn romances I have ever read. Many authors don’t have the patience to bring a character out of utter ruins emotionally to being ready for another relationship. DD keeps it real and still gives you all the feels with a side of steamy hot Alpha male who loves his lady holding nothing back. But, can Vi handle the weight of all that obsession? I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!!! Seriously I can’t recommend enough that you schedule a weekend for this book. It’s not a light read, but if you are looking for an emotionally gut twisty and plot twisty read, this is for you!
PS: Better get a boat load of rope and some carabiners for that cliffhanger! 🪢🏔😮

What can I say.. no one can write a book so full of drama, suspenseful excitement and mysterious characters.. I love it all! Killian is a man with a past that's dangerous in his own way. He doesn't mess with you unless you come for him and then all bets are off. His temper is something out of this world and when you wrong him he knows no boundaries to torture. Once he met Violet he had an undeniable attraction that lasted well for over 3 years but he lost a bet to a crocked slimebag. Now to free her from his hands he has to play this long hand game but will Violet be able to fully accept the man he is even if his actions are because of the man that had her living in hell. Im excited to see what part to will hold.

DeeDee Prince did it again! She made me feel every emotion - I just finished Kill Game and I am at a loss because my heart and brain hurt, I have butterflies and an upset stomach at the same time. I loved this book and need book 2 ASAP because I want closure...I want Violet to get her Knight, I want Killian to get a win, I want Ray to get what he deserves and I want to it all tied up in a pretty happy bow!! Loved it DeeDee thank you again for the book hangover

Jaw dropped!

Wow. Where to begin. Easily and instantly one of my fave book boyfriends. Killian checks all the boxes. I’ve read all of this authors books and just when I think she can’t top herself, boom! So many feels and that ending, dayum!! I will be biting my nails relentlessly until the sequel is out. Bravo DD.

This book!!! Oh my goodness, this book!!

DD never ever disappoints, but this book is stunning. Absolutely incredible. I loved every second. It has shot up my favourites to the top three that DD has written.

A lot of this book spoke to me on a personal level in a very real way. I relate SO much to Violet and I LOVE Killian for who he is so much. The feels are stomach punch intense. The emotions are pure and will have you reaching for tissues at some points and boxing gloves at others. You want to dive in and be the hero for Violet. But Killian has got you covered.

Of course in true DD style there are twists and turns which will have you on the edge of your seat. There are triggers so don’t go into it unwarned. But this book is absolutely INCREDIBLE!

ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!! I cannot wait for part 2!!

Slowly, slowly wins the race.

Killian may have lost out 3 years ago, but no way is he going to lose Violet again. This time he's playing to win.

DD takes you on a journey where a once bright, bubbly, beautiful soul has been so down trodden, that she's no longer recognised. He has some feelings of regret, remorse and guilt that he didn't do more at the time. After helping to ensure her ex can no longer harm her, he takes his time bringing her back to the person she once was. It's a true romantic tale; until it isn't!

This book is a slow burn, it takes its time to get you where it needs to be. But once you get there HOLY CRAP. It's like falling down into the rabbit hole.

Fantastic read by a fantastic author.
