A modern retelling of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

Camille Kelly is in real danger of becoming an old maid—at least by Cherish, Montana, standards. She has all but given up on finding Mr. Right—until her broken laptop leads her to Aiden Peterson, a tall, dark, and handsome computer genius. Camille would never have believed her magic moment was right around the corner, but after two whirlwind weeks, she has a ring on her finger and has happily ever after in sight. However, she soon discovers Aiden is part of a daunting package deal . . .

As the eldest of seven brothers, Aiden has never had a problem living under the same roof as his rambunctious siblings. When he falls for Camille, he is confident she’ll fit right into his family’s already bursting home. He thought wrong. Aiden and Camille’s storybook romance comes to a screeching halt when she discovers her new living situation. Not willing to submit to a life mothering a bunch of grown men, Camille has only one option: she embarks on a campaign to improve her new brothers-in-law and marry them off. And what better candidates for wives than her own best friends?

Brides & Brothers was such a fun and sweet read! I’ve always loved the musical ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ and I was excited to see a modern day retelling.

Aiden and Camille meet and fall for each other quickly. They get married right away and Camille moves in to Aiden’s home. She’s nervous and excited, but what she doesn’t expect is that Aiden’s six younger brothers also live with him. Ever since his parents died, Aiden has taken care of them, and even though they’re all in their twenties now, they are all single and all live at home.

Camille comes up with a great plan… she’ll set up all the brothers with some of her friends and maybe then they’ll fly the coop. This goes really bad, but also really well. It depends on what part of the book you’re on.

The only thing that really bugged me about this one is that Aiden was around the first 30% and the last 20% but he was pretty much gone half the book. It’s hard to focus on the romance when he was on a work trip for weeks and not in the book at all. Aside from that, I really enjoyed this one and will definitely check out more from this author!

Brides and Brothers is a delightful romance filled with family, fun, and faith. You don’t want to miss this one.

This book was like watching a movie, right down to the swoon-worthy romances, the dirty dishes in the sink, and the socks on the floor. Well-written characters who are the reader’s best friends by the end of the story. You root for their successes and ache for their failures. Truly a delightful read.

Ever since I was a little girl and first heard my family talking about the musical, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, I was intrigued. Then I was quickly hooked when the movie was brought home and we sat down to watch it. I couldn't get enough! I watched it over and over and over again. It is still a favorite. I quote lines from it regularly to my family. I've watched the live production a couple times and I've sung the songs hundreds and hundreds of times. I can't help myself...I love it!

You can probably imagine my excitement upon seeing this book and realizing it was a contemporary retelling of my cherished musical. If you can't imagine my excitement, I'll tell you that it was pretty high!

The story turned out to be very charming and delightful. I was constantly thinking back to the musical and movie and thinking of what scene was coming next (yes I have it memorized). It was fun to see how Anneka Walker created her characters and scenarios to this story. If you haven't had the chance to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, no worries, you can still read and enjoy this fun book and all of the ups and downs and comical moments, as well as all of the sweet romance throughout the book.

Camille definitely has her hands full with this household of brothers. But I loved watching her relationship with each of Aiden's brother's develop and grow. And I really liked watching her friends/roommates and the relationships she had with them. There are a lot of characters to keep track of. But I thought the author did a good job of writing all of these characters together and creating them in a way to make them memorable.

There were some moments where I laughed out loud. Some moments where I cringed. Some moments where I teared up. And several moments where I sighed and smiled with Camille and Aiden's sweet love story as well as all of the matchmaking going on all around them.

I listened to some of the audiobook as well and enjoyed the narrator a lot.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

This book!!! I thought the premise was interesting, as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is such a quirky musical with an ... interesting premise. 😂 So a modern retelling just sounded like so much fun!

First off, having a cast of fourteen distinct characters might deter some people, but Anneka NAILED IT. I was never once confused by who was who, or who liked who. All the Peterson boys were swoon worthy but not without faults. The girls of 206 were fun and fresh and although the story was told through big brother Aiden’s and his girl Camille’s POV, you got to see hints of the romance with all the brothers.

Parts could come off as a little cliche or cringe, but overall, I devoured this book. #bingeread for sure! I’d recommend this sweet story to anyone looking for a fun, light read that still has a powerful message about sticking to relationships (especially marriage) through the ups and downs life throws.

This retelling of the classic film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is as entertaining as the movie! Insta-love, disillusionment, family bonds, and a hefty dose of matchmaking brought the original story to the contemporary version, which added more depth with some backstory, challenges, and faith elements. With so many characters I didn't really connect emotionally with any of them, but it was fun to read about the them as they learned about relationships and what makes them overcome the inevitable trials and become stronger. A must-read for fans of the movie and contemporary sweet romance!

This is a sweet little retelling of the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I Love that story line, I own the movie and watch it often. I had Super high hopes for this book and was disappointed it didn't live up to my dream so maybe I am to blame for the 2 stars. This book had A Lot going on and the romance between the 2 main characters was really just lost in it all. I just didn't feel them falling in love. All the other characters were not fleshed out well and I really felt like the only character I knew was her and she was a bit of a mess. There was so fun moments and the story idea was a good one but the execution needed some help.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is one of my all time favorite musicals. I love it so much. My anticipation for this book was strong because has anyone attempted this before? If they have, I don't know about it. I wondered how the author was going to pull of a storyline like this in a modern setting.

I think the concept of this is a fun one. I loved all the nods to the original story throughout the book. It helped me feel like that story was modern and all it's own, but still similar enough to the original that kept that nostalgic feel.

I think overall, the story progressed slowly which seems weird to say given all the characters and interactions in this book. Because there were so many characters, it was really hard to connect emotionally to anyone. I felt like the characters remained on the surface level- even the two main characters, Aiden and Camille. It took me a bit to get through this book because my investment level was just not there. So yeah, not my favorite book but a fun idea.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has always been one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" musicals. It has its problems, but it's still a fun story with catchy music and some of the best dance sequences ever put to film. So when I heard that there was a modern retelling releasing this year, I knew I HAD to read it. And I'm so glad I did!

What a lovely, heartwarming, laugh-out-loud story. If you're in the market for a romantic comedy that's going to give you all the feels, look no further. Sure, parts of it will give you second-hand embarrassment (I actually slapped my hand to my forehead with a quiet "noooo" a couple of times, lol!), but would it be a proper rom-com if it didn't?

Camille and Aiden were just... so cute. As the story went on, each of the brothers developed their own personalities, and I love that we got to know them as Camille did. There were so many perfect little references to the movie that made me smile. It was a great time.

Overall, perhaps not the best book I've ever read, but one that I'm glad I read, and I can totally see myself returning to if I need a smile on a bad day. Four stars from me!

This was a fun retelling of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I haven’t seen the musical since I was a child, yet from what I remember of it, the author was able to pull together a good contemporary take on the story. Of course, you will need to just relax and suspend reality a little bit and have fun reading this tale of a new bride surrounded by a houseful of grown men, the brothers of her groom.

I really liked that Camille and Aiden fell in love. Yes, it was fast. But it was real and not simply a marriage of convenience. I enjoyed seeing them the first month of their marriage, as they acclimated to being husband and wife with a houseful of men around. I think Camille did a great job of being kind and caring to Aiden’s brothers. Yes, she came up with a matchmaking scheme to hopefully move the men into the next stage of their lives with the aim of the brothers moving out of their house to start their own lives, but it was all done in a loving manner.

Aiden and Camille had some trials to overcome and Aiden had to learn how to prioritize his wife’s needs above his brothers’ needs. There were growing pains, a time they had to be apart for Aiden’s work, and enough angst to make their reunion worthwhile. I enjoyed this fun story.

I grew up on musicals and cannot say how many times I've seen Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Too many? Not enough? I feel like the story has blended into my soul with as much love as I have for it. I wanted this retelling with just as much enthusiasm as I have for watching the movie again and again.
What I love about the movie is how lonely and eager the men are for companionship. Adam basically tricked Millie and Millie pulled on her big girl panties and made the best of it. She encouraged and supported her new family and in turn, each brother wanted their own Millie to have and to hold.
Camille and Aiden don't resemble these two as much as I would have liked. In the movie, I had feelings of hope and joy, whereas the book's characters felt more manipulative and self-serving.
All in all, this book reminded me how much I love the film and music. I constantly had random tracks on loop while reading and that brought a smile to my face. I recommend for anyone looking for a clean romance with Christian fiction themes and insta-love times seven.
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

I was excited for a 7 Brides for 7 Brothers story, but this was kind of a mess.
.
I was invested enough to finish, but I found it tedious and underwhelming.
.
It's hard to adapt a well-loved story to a more modern tale, but I think the original us a bit too problematic to make it believable for today.
.
I'm giving it 3 stars, but that's pretty generous.

Well, “bless my beautiful hide,” I loved this book! As someone who enjoyed Seven Brides for Seven Brothers growing up and even played the part of Ruth in a local production of it when I was in high school, I was excited to read a modern adaptation of the beloved musical. The author does a fabulous job of paying faithful tribute to the musical while creating a unique modern version of the story.

Set in a small town in Montana, Camille “Millie” Kelly is in a sticky situation where she’s at risk of losing her apartment, and her laptop is broken. When her sister gives her Aiden’s phone number (the brother of the guy she’s been dating) as someone who can work miracles with her laptop, Millie decides to give him a call. What follows is a whirlwind courtship that ends up with Millie and Aiden getting married just a few weeks later. Aiden neglects to tell her that he has six younger brothers that live with him and none of them are in any hurry to move out on their own. It’s a funny, touching, and at times heart-rending story.

While the musical is sometimes silly and lighthearted, this book has some added depth. This is a Christian romance and the characters deal with issues of faith, a parent who is dismissive and unsupportive, and learning how to live with complete strangers. The two main characters also have to work through issues of trust, communication, separation through work, and building a marriage when they barely know each other.

One of my favorite quotes was: “Marriage was more than just living side by side; it was about overcoming difficulties, keeping promises, and striving harder to be what the other person needed. A good marriage wasn’t a matter of chance but a summation of everything both spouses put into it.”

Like the musical, there are six other women for six other brothers. These couples are quite the combo. The brothers are very much like the brothers in the musical complete with dirty laundry scattered throughout the house, dirty dishes strewn about, and no clue how to really deal with women. With Millie trying to matchmake, there are plenty of misunderstandings, jealousies, and crazy situations as she tries to marry off the brothers to her friends.

My only criticism is that I felt like the romances between the brothers and Millie’s friends were rushed. I realize the author was staying faithful to the original story, but I feel like she could turn many of these romances into sequel novels taking one or two of the brothers’ stories at a time and really fleshing them out.

This is a fun, enjoyable, quick read that true musical fans of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will love. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions are my own.

Where there is a will there is a way? That is a question that comes to mind with this book. Aiden is determined to marry in a short three months before his 30th birthday. Camille needs to find a place that is not living on campus also in a short period of time. Fortunately, they meet and are immediately attracted. Now what to do about all the brothers who live with him?

I found the writing style to be light and fun. Anneka R. Walker had me smiling with the overall tone of the book. Let's forget about the cute characters, handsome young men, flirting, and banter. Those things just add to the way that she wrote the book. It held a great appeal for me. Ok, really it is the whole package that makes the book fun to read. I really do like the other aspects listed above.

This book contains not just one romance, it includes the brothers. It's a several for the price of one deal. If you like a fun story, embarrassing moments, and a bit of romance you should give this book a try.

When a broken computer leads to a tall, dark, and handsome man, Camille isn't complaining. An instant connection forms between her and Aiden and before she knows it, they're married.

I love that this tale is a modern retelling of a classic musical and that made it all the more charming. Aiden is the oldest of seven brothers and Camille takes it upon herself to not only have the family she always wanted, but to simultaneously marry them all off.

While they married quickly, they took time to figure each other other, especially through the ups and downs of real life, which wasn't at all what they expected. I loved getting to know these brothers better and enjoyed watching them bumble their ways through dating.

Such a happy, fun, engaging story of the roller coaster of love.

Content: mild romance; mild+ religion

This is a modern retelling of the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Knowing that helped me understand some of things I found a little hard to believe, such as all of the grown brothers not at all interested in dating and Camille not minding cleaning, cooking and doing laundry for 7 grown men. I don't remember ever seeing the movie/musical growing up so I couldn't compare the book to the movie--I went into the book simply reading the book blurb.

I liked how Camille and Aiden met--she needed her computer fixed and Aiden is the guy her sister Amy suggested she turn to. There's an immediate attraction between them and within a couple of weeks they're married! Somehow Aiden fails to mention that all 6 of his younger brothers live at home. I can't imagine being a newlywed and living in a house with 6 other men! I liked Camille's attitude and her plan to win the brother's over with her cooking. I tried to put myself in Camille's shoes but I just wouldn't have had the patience to clean a disaster of a kitchen before I cooked breakfast, and there's no way I'd do laundry for all those men, but the storyline was staying following the movie so I had to let all that slide.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of and sometimes I forgot which brother liked which girl, except for Camille and Aiden since they're the main couple. There were a few times I wanted to Gibbs slap Aiden for being so stupid--not mentioning his brothers lived at home, not discussing things with Camille and carrying on as he did before he got married, and mostly for taking a job out of town and being gone for such a long time. What newlywed man would do that?!

All in all I think the author did a good job staying true to the original story while making it more modern. It was a cute story and I love happy endings.

I love the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers so I was anxious about this adaptation. I had no reason to worry. It remained true to the idea of the movie while being a wholly modern romantic comedy with all the right elements. It was most definitely a Christian fiction with its themes of faith and turning to God. It was light-hearted in spots and serious when it needed to be without taking itself too seriously.

I appreciated the author's attention to the details like the alphabetization of the guys names without sticking to the originals. I also caught the same detail on the first letter of the ladies names and who they ended up with. That is a detail I did not expect, but was very happy to see.

I am a person that loves a good tribute to a favorite story, but they have to be done right and this one was definitely done right. This was a perfect romantic escape.

This book to me was a modern day replica of the movie, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. There were a ton of similarities, and some differences. I noticed in reading that the characters felt a connections, but as a reader you didn't feel it. I think the author tried to bridge the gap with their backstory, but to me it felt forced. How did they not even know each others whole name? I noticed too that Aiden seemed absent for most of the book, he had no major part in it. I felt more of connection with some of the brothers, who did a better job being attentive to his wife.
I really wanted to like this book, but with the 'kidnapping' and silly pranks... it left me not sure how I felt about it.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

✨ Clean Christian Romance
🩷 Mild kissing, not described; mild yearning; talk of a “honeymoon baby”; mild allusions to the child being conceived out of wedlock, but this is untrue and barely mentioned.
💬 Use of “she swore” used once but not spelled out
🔪 Mentions of parents dying in a car crash; grief over loss of parents; a group of guys get into a fight and all get pretty beat up.
⛪️ Strong faith elements

A simple way to describe this book would be: strong start, weak end.

Bride and Brothers is a modern re-telling of the classic rom-com, Seven Bride for Seven Brothers. It was a fun read for me because I loved the movie when I watch it.

The initial love story was so sweet and I absolutely adored Aiden and Camille. Aiden is every Christian girl’s dream guy, so it was easy to get sucked into Camille’s fantasy. They had a lot of chemistry and the brothers were hilarious and I was very optimistic about the rest of the book.

…and then Aiden left for the majority of the book.

The other characters were super funny and all, but I was there for Aiden and Camille. Aiden leaving was incredibly frustrating and just kind of took the initial fun out of the book. There was nothing worth looking past the rough writing anymore. After a while, the book just felt like it droned on and on and on and on.

I was hoping for at least a strong end, and I didn’t feel like we got that. I’m so sad to rate this one so low, as I did enjoy it, but the closer I got to the end the more I just wanted it to be done.

I’m glad I read it, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless they were a super big fan of the movie this was based off of.

One more thing—Flynn. We loved Flynn. I wish he had a bit more character development instead of just changing at the snap of Camille’s fingers :( his romance was super cute though.

Summary: When Camille Kelly and Aiden Peterson are reunited as adults, their teen crush turns into something more serious-fast. Within a few weeks, they’re married.

But Aiden might have forgotten to tell his new bride a few things. Like he has six brothers, and they all still live at home.

What is Camille to do but play a little match-making and hook her new brothers-in-law up with her best friends?

Nothing could go wrong……or could it?

My Thoughts: Although I liked the premise of this book, I did not enjoy the actual book. I did really like the relationships that Camille develops with her brothers-in-law-that part was fun and well-done.

However, for a romance, this book was missing a lot. First, Aiden comes off as a terribly selfish child. He leaves Camille to handle everything, can’t handle tears, and runs off after the first sign of conflict. Not very swoon-worthy.

And, Camille’s friends are very childish as well. They fight back dirty when things don’t go their way, and their pranks lead to some serious trouble.

Camille’s mother is a real piece of work, but when she shows Camille even the teeniest bit of love, Camille somehow gets over all her past pain in their relationship.

In fact, even with all the struggles and pain in this book-everyone lives happily ever after.

I do understand this book is modeled after the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which is a bit on the silly side of things plot-wise, but I felt that plot didn’t translate very well into a modern story-especially when the characters did such mean things to each other.

I might be just reading too much into this book, and should take it for what it is-a modern re-telling of the movie. But I came away feeling sorry for Camille, and wondering how everyone else’s relationships could possibly last when no one seemed to learn from their mistakes in a way not to repeat them in the future.

If you really love the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and you don’t maybe take things as seriously as me and can just go along with everything that happens, you will probably enjoy this book. For me, it was not a favorite.

I would like to thank Covenant Communications for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.

Cute retelling of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Strong Hallmark vibes with mostly likable characters and easy to read storytelling.

I would categorize this as Christian fiction, which does make for a very clean read. Throughout the book many of the characters are described as being deeply religious and they frequently talk about their faith. That in itself didn’t bother me. What did bother me is that those very same characters kept making very immature, naive and (at times) selfish decisions. Also, in a brief scene towards the end of the book an elderly women from their church harshly assumes that someone got pregnant before marriage and is pretty mean about it. Overall, it didn’t paint the best impression of devout Christians.

That being said, I still enjoyed aspects of this novel and look forward to trying some of the authors historical romances.

I would recommend this to someone who likes ‘Sevens Brides’, rom-coms and Christian fiction.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a digital ARC.

I'm a huge fan of the musical and was so excited to read this modern retelling! I was so interested to find out how Anneka managed to pull off modernizing some of the main parts of the story (esp.the kidnapping), and I thought she did a fabulous job. No, it's not realistic, but it wasn't really meant to be. It's meant to be a retelling of a charming, fun, unrealistic musical! I thought the characters were strong and likable, and I thought the whole thing was very well done.

Quite the fun retelling of one of my favorite musicals! It had all the key elements and she got the brotherly things and the humor down perfectly! My only complaint is that the modern setting made Adrian (Adam) exchange his backwoods ideas for simply being oblivious and so the big problem at the end felt more like a romance novel than the musical. But it was still really fun!!

A beautiful retelling of a classic tale and the author did a good job with the contemporary twist.

I loved this modern take on the movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”. I loved the matchmaking that was going on and the ups and downs in each of the relationships. I loved how awkward the characters were at times as they tried to understand what the other person needed. I loved seeing the love grow between each of the brothers and that these characters were relatable. This was a really fun book and I loved the storyline. I highly recommend reading this book especially if you loved the movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”.

This book was way unrealistic tbh. First of all, the main couple, Aiden and Camille got married after weeks of dating. Weeks? Really? It's not even arranged marriage. Moreover, who marry someone without ever meeting that person's family? And the husband just abandoned his wife after marrying her. Just like that. I couldn't believe he tricked her into marrying him without giving her the proper knowledge about his brothers. She didn't try either. Ugh! I did feel bad for Camille when Aiden didn't even consider her feelings and invited his brothers and their girlfriends instead of spending time with his own wife.

Oh, that's not all. Camille decided to marry her brother-in-laws off so that they could get their own house and leave her and her husband alone. WTF? Was she for real? I don't think she ever saw them more than some responsibility that thrown upon her rather thinking of them as the big family she wanted. She was determined on making them move away from the house. Her attitude really pissed me off. It's not their fault your husband lied to you. I really wish Camille had a sweet bond with her brother-in-laws.

It would've been better if the brothers didn't meet the girls at the same time and started having feelings. One or two at a time, would've been much better. There's no connection or chemistry between any couple. None. Grant wasn't even in the book.

This book was supposed to be a rom-com, right? Well, lemme break it to you. It was not a rom-com. The author, here, actually tried to pass the heavy relationship issues as simple matter. Like the relationship between Camille and her mother, Camille and Aiden etc. I think I only laughed when Camille with her friends and brother-in-laws spying on Flynn and Sage. But soon it was also ruined.

Anyway, I wish it was a light and laugh out loud kinda read. But it wasn't. There's no world building. And characters? There's nothing significant about them. I didn't care about any of these characters. This book didn't have that smoothness which even make unrealistic things believable. The plot was meh. Like I said beyond unrealistic. Sigh! I really wish I enjoyed it.
