Jesus Alone: The Story of the Savior

Rate this book
Jesus Christ is undoubtedly the most influential and inspiring person in history. And yet today most know his name only as a byword. The true Jesus of the Bible has become shrouded in layers of mystical and religious paraphernalia. It is time to unveil his true character and appreciate him in light of his historical context. Many books have been written explaining Christian history and answering questions pertinent to their beliefs and practices. Seeking to decipher the development of Christianity down through history is a daunting challenge but it ultimately takes us away from the heart of the matter, namely Jesus. The fact is that there would be no Christianity without Jesus Christ. Consequently, whatever our opinion of the evolution of Christianity over the last two millennia and its many modern representations, we must start by understanding Jesus and then judging all later developments against the backdrop of his person and teachings. In this book Jerry Mattix seeks to take us back to the heart of Christianity, to meet the person of Jesus Christ. Just like his first followers sought to express in writing the amazing truths they witnessed to their generation, the author hopes to take those same historical facts and make them understandable to this generation. This book is a down-to-earth rendition of the Biblical narrative of Jesus that people of all ages and backgrounds can readily appreciate. Starting with the prophetic utterances about his first coming, tracing his amazing life, extraordinary teachings, atoning death and resurrection, and culminating with the Biblical descriptions of his second coming, from beginning to end Jerry Mattix puts the spotlight on Jesus Alone.

Jerry’s heart is that people from all nations would know Jesus. This is apparent in his other books Dear Muslim Friend & Dear Skeptic Friend. And it is especially true in this book. All of his books are short volumes, written in a relatively easy English level.

In this book Jerry shows us who Jesus is, how the whole of scripture points us to Jesus, and all of history is centered on Jesus. I read the first chapter a few weeks ago, and then picked it up and finished the rest of the book this afternoon. It is a short and easy read. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to better understand who Jesus is.

This was a nice little reminder of the Gospels; however, I have already read them, and continue to do so, so I am very familiar with their contents and I believe in the story and promises they tell.
