I’m used to hunting my prey. I stalked insurgents in Iraq through the scope of a sniper rifle, and never showed mercy. Now my prey is my woman, my flower. My Lily.

I can’t tame my obsession. I’ll follow her to the end of the earth.

She’s in danger, and I’d rather die than let anything happen to her. I’ll always be there, watching, keeping her safe.

I’ll do whatever it takes to make her happy. Protect her, pleasure her, please her.

But I know that when she finds out just how deep my obsession goes, she’ll run screaming.

And I’ll follow.

Watched is a dark and steamy romance novella with a possessive hero, no cheating and a happy ending.

I was expecting so much from this novella because of the blurb and, while I somewhat liked what I've read, I find that it was lacking in many departments. But first, here's the premise:

Lily is a young woman who works at a diner in a small little town. She lives with her uncle who became her guardian after her mother died in an accident when Lily was fourteen. One evening, her uncle tells her they'll be having a visitor soon, Kade, a Navy buddy who needs somewhere to stay for a couple weeks. When Lily and Kade meet for the first time, they feel a connection, they are both attracted to each other. But what Lily doesn't know is that she's already become his obsession...

I'm not sure I liked Lily to be honest. Well, at first I thought she was sweet, a young woman who needed someone to care for her and protect her. The problem that I had with her over the course of this novella was how she couldn't make up her mind about anything. One minute she was on board with something and the next she would start doubting. I know that, being a victim of abuse, it makes sense for her to be fearful about things and change her mind, recoil back to what she knows, but it just created unnecessary back and forth. There was nothing really notable about her which made me question what made Kade become obsess with her at first sight.

She’ll run away and I’ll spend the rest of my life chasing her, making her understand that I’m never going to let her go. That she’s mine, and I’ll kill anyone that dares to touch her.-Kade

As for Kade, I was expecting him to be really dark and intense, with all the promises he was making but ended up being dull to some extends. He had the qualities one can enjoy about an over-the-top character: possessive, jealous, obsessed and protective BUT the scenes he was in weren't really blistering. We also didn't get much of stalking and what we got was nothing too crazy either. Like I've mentioned above, it's never really explained why he instantly became obsessed with Lily. He was said to be obsessing over his job when he was in the Navy, hunting on his targets without relent, and after leaving the Navy, it just seemed to me like he only needed something or someone to sate that obsession of his. Like, she was there when he needed to switch his obsession elsewhere and it fell on her.

Does she want a hero? Too bad. She’s got me, and I’m the opposite. If I have to pretend to be the gallant gentleman for a while, I can do it, I think. If that’s what it takes for her to want me.-Kade

As a result, their chemistry was a bit lacking. Everything was surface stuff, there was no deep development between them or anything that really explained their feelings. I was also expecting so much from the smexxi scenes because the hero kept hinting to a much darker side to his obsession but then when it they got to it, it was nothing really out of the ordinary (well in my opinion). It definitely could've been much darker, twisted. Now what we got was: . Anyway, I just thought it'd be more than that, that's all.

One thing that bothered me in one of the chapters was how randomly, while reading Lily's POV, we got a Kade paragraph. It really confused me at first, but I'm pretty sure it was meant for him:
“It’s my land,” he says. “I wasn’t ready to be here yet, but the choice was taken away from me.” I don’t have any good memories of my dad, and I was working myself up to coming here, to fixing it up so I could live here instead of with Drew. Lily had derailed that.

Other than that, I think this novella was okay and enjoyable overall, but I was just expecting more from it. I liked the first half better than the second half. I just wished the author had put more time on developing the main characters' chemistry rather than rush action and drama for the sake of it. I just personally didn't connect with the romance. The pacing was pleasant though!

Would I recommend this novella? It wasn't bad at all but I did have high expectations. It wasn't as dark or hot as I thought it would be... I think it might be interesting for people who aren't familiar with dark romances and would like to try reading one that isn't too crazy.

STORY:
What I liked, this was a short quick Insta love/lust read. It gave a little of everything, stalking, a little violence, possessive and obsessive hero and I think possibly an age gap. I found it likable as well as finding myself interested in what was taken place within the story.

What was ok for me, some contents appeared dark, but for me, it was on the mild side of dark. However, with saying that, everyone’s version of dark is different. Earlier I noted age gap, as Lily was 20, soon to be 21, and I think Kade to be much older, the author didn’t note this. The actual stalking aspect appeared throughout the book and saw this once or twice I believe, however, I wanted to see Kade in the moment more of stalking. It was noted he stalked her multiple times but the excitement for me with stalker romances is seeing the hero in action with his thoughts as that’s a part of the allure.

With that being said, the moment Kade saw Lily, he went into super hyper obsessed mode. He is definitely attracted to Lily but also sees he needs to get her out of her current situation. With his military background, he was able to do this. Lily, was very vulnerable. Orphaned at 14, she opted to stay with her aunt's husband. This was not the best situation, thus starting an unhappy life.

CHEMISTRY:
Physical chemistry was good. I know it was a novella, but wanted a little more in-depth intimacy.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Few, only Drew, but he isn’t even worth mentioning as you will know why from the story.

OVERALL, quick fast pace read that was still enjoyable with a few buts.

✰✰TRIGGERS: talks of abuse with physical evidence and violence.

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Re-read? No

"He reels backward, clearly shocked it’s become so serious so fast. What did they expect when they broke in here and threatened my woman? I would die for her. I’m certainly going to kill for her."

Kade is certainly no good guy stalker. He's basically a sociopath who was dishonorably discharged from the Navy. He's definitely on the dark side of the stalker romance genre but I guess you really can't expect more when the word stalker is in the subject manner. Just a heads up for those with triggers (though this is probably not your genre if you do have triggers), this book contains violence, domestic violence, murder, and rough sex.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Kade and Lily. The author moves the story quickly and smoothly with her descriptive scenes and packs it with tons of action and danger as well as bringing the heat with his protective and obsessive feelings he has for her. I enjoyed reading their story.

The author does a great job weaving a amazing story that leaves you breathless. Its my first time reading her and I will be back for more. This is perfect for a beach read or a vacation quickie.

Lily really was the victim in this stalker romance. The years of silent abuse at the hands of her Uncle were painful to imagine. Now years later, she had pretty much accepted the life she had with him. The plot thickened with the introduction of Kade.
A bit creepy as he started to stalk her with barely concealed obsession only to rescue her from her abuser. Almost twenty one but controlled and isolated by her Uncle. being with Kade helped Lily come into her own person as he gained confidence once her Uncle was removed from her life.

A fast-paced and suspenseful quick read you will devour in one sitting, Kade is a hot, obsessed, possessive, very capable and larger than life alpha, who does his best holding his beast back as not to scare away his precious Flower. Lily has already had so much happening to her, she struggles with the idea of leaving what she knows behind and accept all the love and devotion Kade is throwing her way. A fabulous story!

Watched: A Dark Stalker Romance was my first story by Amber Faye. I loved Kade and Lily's story. After a dishonorable discharge from the military, Kade goes to stay with Drew another military discharge. Living with her uncle Drew is all Lily knows. Her uncle took her in after the death of her parents. Once a sniper, Kade is used to stalking his enemy and after meeting Lily, she becomes his obsession. He follows her and looks out for her because he knows without a doubt they belong together. If you like OTT possessive alphas, you will love their story! Definitely recommend.

This was an enjoyable read. Our lead female character, Lily, was orphaned at 14 and her uncle took her in, but not out of the goodness of his heart. He is her uncle by marriage and treats her like a slave. Our lead male character, Kade, knows her uncle from the Navy and comes to stay with them when he’s discharged. He immediately becomes obsessed with Lily and stalks her with every intention of making her his. Overall enjoyable read.

2.5 ⭐

Kade was dishonorably discharged from the marines (he didn't follow an order and killed a man who was about to assault a woman) and he had nowhere to go so he decided to stay with Drew, a former marine too but they weren't close. But he has an available space so he stayed with him.

Drew is an asshole and has been living with his niece Lily, she's taken her since she was 14 after her parents died. But not because it's out of the goodness of his heart. Lily will get her inheritance when she turns 21 and Drew was only waiting for that time.

Lily was physically abused by Drew whenever he was drunk. She flinched away from human interaction because of him. But when Kade came to their house, she found him attractive and that she was not scared of him. Kade felt the same attraction too, but decided to bide his time and learn everything about Lily first before making her finally his.

Kade stalked Lily everyday to know everything about her and to make sure she was safe too. But then, all of a sudden goons from a loanshark that Drew didn't pay attacked their house, but this has failed thanks to Kade. Their second attempt was to kidnap Lily, but failed too thanks again to Kade.

Being fed up with all of Drew's fuck ups, Kade killed Drew then drive himself and Lily away to start afresh. But Lily found out Kade's shrine for her and got spooked by it. She asked him to let her go, which he did believing he should give her space.

Lily went back to their town to find out that Drew is dead and she knew at the back of her mind that it was Kade who did it. She finally felt free once she realized that Drew will no longer be around her and that he can never hurt her again. Once this realization settled in, she drove back to Kade and decided to be with him. This ended in HFN, but I still had fun reading it.

I have a hard time reviewing this one. This is my first time reading this author and I’ve been saving it for a special time I could read it without distractions… because I knew I was going to love it!
Stalker romance with an over-the-top obsessed alpha? Heck yeah!
Intense insta-love (or at least insta-obsessed), yes!
An over the top alpha who would kill to protect his lady, yes! Yes! Yes!
So why didn’t i love it?
It just wasn’t enough…..not enough detail to understand why he instantly fell in love.
Is she beautiful, sweet or does our guy just have a hero complex and senses she needs saving? We are never quite sure, he just decides she will be his and we’re not really given enough to feel it.
We immediately know our heroine is being abused. Yet our obsessed stalker who sees she’s terrified of her uncle… needs to ask who is abusing her? 🤷‍♀️
Our hero, who doesn’t seem to have a single dollar to his name, was dishonorably discharged (yes he had a good reason;) and no job is somehow able to survive and stalk our heroine as a full time job? 🤷‍♀️
Our hero tries to protect our heroine…but she fights him to go running back to her abuser uncle who basically sold her and has been using her the entire time? 🤷‍♀️
Lastly I’m really tired of my hero promising some seriously hot crazy obsessed sex and we get… nothing. A few sentences to let us know the action went down but no details of his absolute obsession and need to possess his heroine.
Perhaps I shouldn’t dislike a steamy hot possessive stalker romance just because it’s not erotica, but then it just becomes a crazy stalker story, and not a hot one…🤦‍♀️

Lily had lived with her uncle Drew since she was 14, wjo treats her like his personal slave. When Drew announces they are to have a visitor it throws Lily off guard. Kade needed a place to stay after his discharge and when he first meets Lily he knows she will become his. Kades obsession with Lily grows but he won't do anything without her permission. But when Drew puts Lily's life in danger, Kade will do anything to protect his little flower even if it means showing her the dark side of himself.
Will Lily want to run away or rub into hisbarms when she discovers the truth? This is a well written steamy short stalker romance, thats well paced throughout and has engaging characters and a dark twisting storyline.

This could have been a good story. There was so much potential. But, no.

I'm not one for insta anything, so that's one strike against it. There was little to no character development (I understand it's a short story, but still) and a lot of unnecessary repetition.

The fact that Lily was TSTL made made want to DNF almost from the beginning, but I wanted to hold out hope that it would get better and live up to the blurb.

It didn't.

And the story was full of inconsistencies. Drew is abusive and he even offers her up to pay off a debt, but she can't just up and leave him. She realizes Kade has been stalking her, so she runs from him; but she finds comfort knowing he's out there somewhere watching her. Make up your mind.

I didn't care for this one... Not sure it I'll look into the second book.

'Watched' is Amber Faye's first book and it is definitely a wonderful start. It's captivating and dark, with damaged characters who save each other through their love and obsession. Although I wish it had been a full length novel instead of a novella so we could have had more insight and development in their relationship, I was still engrossed in the characters' stories and backgrounds, and their attraction was off the charts and incredibly steamy.

I would definitely recommend this novella to anyone wanting a quick, dark, steamy read and will be looking out for future works by this author.

What an intense story. Kade is out of the military and going to stay at Drew's house until he can find a job and get situated. Lily opens the door when he knocks and he knows that she has just become his. His flower, his obsession, his everything. This story is full of suspense, action, violence, and plenty of steam. Kade and Lily have the most intense, mind blowing relationship. I am so glad that Drew got what was coming to him. This is the first book I've read from this author and I can't wait to read more from her. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoy their sweet love story that has a dark side with a stalker romance...

He is dishonorably discharged from the military and is staying at her uncle's place until he is settled in, however he is distracted by her and starts stalking her as her own dark guardian in the shadows. She has an rich inheritance from her parents and is used as bargaining chip for her uncle and the loan sharks... the ML kills her uncle as an obstacles for trying to hurt her and kidnaps her for a short while to take her away from danger, later the loan sharks are blamed for her uncle's murderer and the ML and FL live happily after being married to each other.

Lily needs a protector. Orphaned by her parents, her shady uncle by marriage has been her guardian since she was 14. It’s clear Drew has nefarious intentions for Lily. Kade, a former navy buddy, comes to stay with them for a little while and Kade is immediately drawn to Lily, his flower. He realizes immediately he would do anything for her. He’s obsessed and protective.

Good stalker romances are hard to come by but this one hits the spot. Kade’s obsession and protectiveness are so satisfying to read.

Kade is returning home from the military. With no money he crashes at his ex military buddy house only to find a mysterious flower that he can't explain his obsession about. Turns out he arrived in time because Lily is in a world of trouble.

She's innocent and he's rough. They made some steam but first have to deal with her being in danger. Lot happens in this quick read but I will tell you that Kade is certainly that dark book boyfriend material. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.

This is a fast pace romance where Kade is ex military, sniper and is staying at Drew’s while his house gets ready. When he meets Lilly so delicate and beautiful wakes his obsessive behavior towards her, he wants to protect to envelope her in his arms and when he finds Drew abusive behavior towards her, and how Drew trade her for the gambling money hell will be loose on everyone that wants to hurt his flower. I loved the book, has action and is hot.

Drew and Lily

Drew was dishonourably discharged from the military. An old buddy he hasn't seen for years offers him a place to stay until he finds a job. He was a sniper ad had been obsessive on his quest to find and eliminate his targets and he was fearful of his lack of focus. Until he meets sweet Lily, his buddy's niece. Everything shifted into place and he is now stalking her in an effort to keep her safe. Great plot, likeable characters sync ted hit romance. Highly recommended

Kade and Lily meet when Kade comes to stay with Lily's uncle Drew after being discharged from the Navy. As soon as Kade sees Lily he is immediately obsessed with her and wants to make her his woman. Lily is terrified of people because she has been used and abused by Drew. She finally confides in Kade about the abuse after an altercation at the house. I very much enjoyed this story and how it ended up.

I knew this book was going to be short since it is a novella, but I think it might be too short. I just didn't feel a real connection between the main characters. It just feels rushed to me, with a little more flesh on its bones it could be a great story. As is it's good for a quick read when you've got an extra hour.

Watched is a novella length book and the first in Amber Faye’s Twin Pines Obsessions series. There is suspense, danger and intrigue in this well-written story and the characters are likeable and engaging, even though Kade has a darker side that might intimidate most. Ms Faye is a new to me author and I’ll definitely be reading more of her work and the next in this series too!

The storyline was a little scatter.
Abuse, love and obsession. Kade , I believe, is suffering from PTSD. From being so protective of Lily, to rage if someone is just looking at her.
I understand that Drew , her “uncle” was abusive but killing is not really a resolution.
The romance part was really hot.
Was that dark romance ? Decided for yourself...

This was a quick read. My first time reading this author and overall I like the story. Kade comes home from the military after being dishonorably discharged from the military and stays with his friend. Lily lives with her uncle but has been abused by him. After Kade see's Lily, it's insta love/attraction. This moves fast and has some action, drama and suspense with plenty of heat from these two.

It wasn't amazing but it was readable and super short. It was insta-love but I didn't really mind in this book, which is something that usually bothers me. Overall it wasn't like a creepy stalker story that somehow turned into a love, it was more of a 'I just met you and I'm attracted but have an obsessive personality and have to have you in my sight' sort of story.

I kinda wish it was a little creepy... but it was okay.

Watched was quick and naughty. I haven't read many stalker books but I really liked this one. It's quick to jump right into the story. There's something about a possessive, protective man that is my weakness and then add in low-key stalker and that made it even hotter. I finished the book in one sitting.
