DESHIDRATADA me dejó este volumen.
Banana Fish es tanto el primer anime que vi en mi vida, como el primer manga que comencé a coleccionar, por lo que siempre va a tener un lugar especial en mi corazón. Este volumen (al menos en la edición argentina) contiene las últimas 35 páginas de la serie principal de Banana Fish, y otros 4 extras. Lo que más me gustó de este volumen fue que, al no haber estado adaptado al anime, fue en su mayor parte algo completamente nuevo para mi. Todos los extras están buenísimos si te interesa la historia, el mundo y los personajes de Banana Fish, ya que te proporcionan más información en cuánto a cómo se conocieron ciertos personajes, lo cual te permite adentrarte un poquito más a pleno en la historia.
Salvo "Fly Boy, in the Sky", todos los extras (y el final de la historia original, claramente) fueron desgarradores, pero porque la vida de Ash es desgarradora. Sin embargo, ¿The Garden with Holy Light? Me sacó las ganas de vivir. 50 páginas de dolor puro, porque así como Eiji no puede superar la muerte de Ash, yo tampoco puedo. Y verlo a mi hijo no pudiendo ser feliz porque mi otro hijo nunca tuvo la posibilidad de ser feliz me mata a pesar que yo dejé de vivir el mismo día que Ash dejó de vivir ahr.
En conclusión, Banana Fish es desde mayo de 2021 mi anime favorito, y lo veo muy poco probable que algún otro anime le saque ese puesto. Amo esta historia, amo estos personajes, pero por sobre todo, amo lo que me hizo y hace sentir. Banana Fish, te amo.
Bueno no me hablen en las próximas dos semanas que voy a estar en un pozo depresivo generado por The Garden with Holy Light muchas gracias nos vemos el 26 de enero I guess

2.5 Sterne für die ganze Reihe.
Die ersten beiden Bände der Ultimativen Edition waren sehr schleppend für mich, mit Band 3 hat sich das etwas gebessert. Dennoch fand ich, dass sich die Geschichte hier und da sehr gestreckt hat, gleichzeitig aber z.B. die emotionale Bindung zwischen Ash und Eiji zu kurz kam. Man weiß zwar warum die zwei aneinander hängen, es wird aber kaum gezeigt, was es für mich persönlich schwer macht, die Bindung auch zu fühlen/nachzuvollziehen. Was außerdem hinzukommt, ist, dass es kaum Indikatoren dafür gibt, wieviel Zeit wirklich vergangen ist und wie lange die zwei nun tatsächlich schon Gelegenheit hatten sich kennenzulernen. Im Gegensatz dazu finde ich aber Ashs Vergangenheit gut erklärt, sodass man ein gutes Gefühl für seine Person bekommt. Leider wirkt Ash in vielen Dingen aber sehr Übermenschlich, was die Immersion wiederum stört. Ich hatte mehr als einen Moment, bei dem ich die Augen verdrehen musste... Ash ist manchmal einfach zu perfekt: Er ist 17/18 Jahre, wunderschön und daher unwiderstehlich für viele, hat einen IQ von über 200 , kann schießen wie kein anderer und kann schwere Verletzungen sehr leicht wegsteckt. Ja, wir erfahren, dass er speziell ausgebildet wurde... aber komm' schon. Im Gegensatz dazu handeln fast alle anderen Figuren (ob Verbündete oder Feinde) manchmal schon fast lachhaft dämlich oder unfähig. Man muss also zu einem gewissen Grad bereit sein, jegliche Zweifel an der Glaubhaftigkeit fallen zu lassen, was mir schwer fiel weil es einfach so viele dieser unglaubwürdigen Situationen gab.
Geradezu unheimlich (aber gut) fand ich die Darstellung der Effekte, die Banana Fish auf die Menschen hatte. Die Leere oder auch die Schiere Angst in den Augen unter dem Einfluss der Droge/Manipulation hat mich wirklich gepackt. Das ist schon interessant, denn an sich sind die Zeichnungen schon sehr einfach gehalten und auch die Charaktere manchmal kaum auseinanderzuhalten.
Etwas, das mir besonders ab Band 3 oder 4 auffiel ist, dass viele Charaktere mit geschlossenen Mündern reden, was ich sehr komisch finde, und was mir so extrem noch nie in anderen Manga aufgefallen ist.
Band 10 habe ich nur noch überflogen - nur die Geschichten
Für mich überwiegen letztendlich die oben angeführten Nachteile, weil ich die Geschichte so nicht wirklich genießen konnte. Im Großen und Ganzen fiel es mir schwer eine Verbindung zu Ash und Eiji aufzubauen, dennoch hat mich das Ende sehr mitgenommen - was schon ein wenig paradox klingt.
Schlussendlich muss ich sagen, dass ich nicht ganz verstehen kann, warum um die Geschichte immer noch ein so großer Hype besteht. Ja, ich finde die Ideen für diese Geschichte gut aber die Ausführung wurde ihnen nicht gerecht.

The first two volumes of the Ultimate Edition were very slow for me, but this improved somewhat with volume 3. Nevertheless, I found that the story was stretched out here and there, but at the same time, the emotional bond between Ash and Eiji, for example, came up short. You know why the two are attached to each other, but it is hardly shown, which makes it difficult for me personally to feel/understand the bond. What's more, there are hardly any indicators of how much time has really passed and how long the two have actually had the opportunity to get to know each other. In contrast, I find Ash's past well told so that you get a good feeling for his character. Unfortunately, Ash comes across as superhuman in many ways, which breaks the immersion. There was more than one moment when I had to roll my eyes... Ash is sometimes just too perfect: he is 17/18 years old, beautiful and therefore irresistible to many, has an IQ of over 200 , can shoot like no one else and can brush off severe injuries very easily. Yes, we learn that he was specially trained.... but come on. In contrast, almost all the other characters (whether allies or enemies) act almost laughably stupid or incompetent at times. So to a certain extent, you have to be prepared to cast aside any doubts about plausibility, which was hard for me because there were just so many of these implausible situations.
I found the depiction of the effects Banana Fish had on people downright eerie (but good). The emptiness or sheer fear in the eyes under the influence of the drug/manipulation really grabbed me. It's interesting because in itself the drawings are very simplistic and also the characters are sometimes hard to tell apart.
Something I noticed especially from volume 3 or 4 onwards is that many characters talk with their mouths closed, which I find very weird, and which I've never noticed so excessively in other manga.

For me, the disadvantages of the story as listed above predominate and made me unable to enjoy the story. On the whole, it was difficult for me to build a connection with Ash and Eiji, yet I was shaken by the ending - which sounds a bit contradictory.
In the end, I have to say that I can't quite understand why there is still so much hype about this story. Yes, I think the ideas for this story are good but the execution didn't do them justice.

Terminar el último tomo, a pesar del final, da la satisfacción de haber leído una gran historia, te relaja, te da placer y no te deja de tomar los pensamientos por unos días. Terminar Banana fish es la descripción exacta de satisfecho.
En este último tomo tiene varias historias extras, spin off o procesiones de la historia general, lo que en animé se llamarían ovas; y aunque pueda parecer un alargue, le dan muchísimo sentido a lo que uno acaba de leer. Todos los tomos son acción pura y dura, y aunque uno sabe de la historia previa de cada uno, leerlas solas, con profundidad, te llena de sentido de amor y de tristeza. Si en los primeros nueve tomos vivís acción, en el último lloras como un loco porque entendés con precisión los motivos de cada personaje. Y como perla final los comentarios de la autora le dan un kick hermoso.

Omggg je peux pas croire que j’ai terminé ce manga…J’ai dévoré les 4 derniers tomes. C’était absolument génial !!!! Quitter cet univers et les personnages me rends juste super triste. C’était juste super prenant et magnifique. Je me demande vraiment pourquoi ce manga est classé « shojo » ou manga dit de « fille » alors que c’est tellement interessant et tellement plus que juste une histoire d’amour.

Y al final su debilidad si lo llevo a su perdición.
Honestamente no creo haya sido el mejor final, no acabo a media oración, pero si lo considero fue un tanto abrupto, me gustó el hecho de que narraran las distintas perspectivas de las retrospectivas que se mencionaron a lo largo de los tomos, aunque hubiese tenido impacto si estas fueran acompañadas entre cada tomo.
Claramente lloré, me fue imposible no hacerlo, ya que me encariñe bastante con ciertos personajes, la historia concreta fue bastante buena, aunque el nombre siendo que quedó muy de fondos, las historias ayudaron a cubrir los hilos sueltos que habían quedado, pero aún así, no se sabe realmente qué pasó con el Banana Fish, ¿ realmente lo que sucedió fue el fin de ese contexto?
“No estás solo. Me tienes a tu lado. Mi alma siempre estará junto a la tuya.”
Quizá la relación de Aslan y Eiji no fuera palpable, pero atravesó mas allá de eso, y aunque no esté plasmado físicamente en las páginas por palabras de la autora, es inefable el amor que sentían el uno por el otro. Aunque honestamente si me habría gustado al menos un beso.
“Tu sangre iba abandonando poco a poco tu cuerpo. Tu presión bajaba. Igual que tú temperature… pasó un buen rato, muy largo, hasta que te alcanzo la muerte…
Sonreías. Cómo si estuvieras soñando con algo muy agradable.”
La historia está repleta de matices, el hecho de que hicieran referencia a muchos clásicos le aporta un valor especial, al menos personalmente, no son personajes que podré olvidar fácilmente y sin duda los leeré para encontrar aún más este sentimiento de entender más el trasfondo de estos personajes.

Non c’è niente al mondo che mi distrugga come questo volume, la fine della storia principale e le sua short stories sono ogni volta la mia rovina… sopratutto garden of lights.
Ash mi manchi tantissimo.
Questo manga (e il suo anime) mi hanno veramente cambiata, lasciandomi un vuoto dentro, il tutto perché è una storia incredibilmente UMANA. I suoi personaggi sono vivi e riesci a comprenderli tutti (parliamo dei positivi).
Non pensavo fosse possibile provare un tale dolore per un’opera di questo genere… E INVECE ECCOCI QUA

well, fuck. i mean, if you already know the ending, you probably know how i feel about it without any explanations. moving on from the fact that it completely destroyed me, i enjoyed all the extra content A LOT. (it destroyed me even more too.) so yeah. if you've seen the anime but haven't read the manga, you definitely should. it's so worth it!

Like sure, I only read the last book of bananafish and skipped the rest of the series, but that was so sad. Like i was reading that scene, and then I was remembering the memes that one of my best friends kept on sending (cough cough Tamar) of them together, and then like I remembered the last 5 minutes we watched together, and next thing you know I've got this tear rolling down my face... It's been a really sad weekend.
I also liked all the scenes afterwards, but especially the one were ash and shorter meet for the first time, and fly boy (even though I was a bit confused on who the dude was but whatever) and that nearly made me cry again...
Also, random side note, I was so surprised that that dude with long hair was called blanca, because my neighbour recently got a really cute dog named exactly the same not too long ago, so yes.
I may watch/read the rest of the series now...

Me ha encantado. Un manga muy recomendable. Lástima que hayamos tenido que esperar casi 30 años para poder leerlo, aunque la espera valió la pena. Me ha tenido enganchada hasta la última página.

The last volume of Banana Fish. This one has the short story "Garden Of Lights."
After rereading the ending, it got me wondering why this is often sold as a love story between the animanga community. Even if it revolves around the relationship of Ash and Eiji, I never saw it as a love story. I honestly see their love as something more complex than just a romance, it is something hard to explain in a GoodReads review.
For me, the main focus of this story is pain. The pain Ash has to go through, how he deals with it, how it affects his life, his relationship, everything. How Eiji has to also go through similar suffering and how he tries to understand pain. With Garden Of Lights finally showing us how much it has affected him, not being able to move on.
It is a painful experience, I have to take pauses while reading it because the pain of the characters is almost unbearable. The way Akimi Yoshida makes every single panel look beautiful, yet painful, makes it one of the best mangas I've ever read.
Banana Fish is a tragic story, it is something you don't want to read again because of how shocking and beautiful it is. I feel this is the best type of story, the one that portrays the actual horrors of humanity in a format that does not make it look like a horror story.

E chegamos ao fim dessa incrível obra que é Banana Fish. Sem dúvidas, um dos melhores mangás que já li. A história conseguiu trabalhar bem o desenvolvimento dos personagens, o ambiente de cada "arco", ação, suspense, investigação, romance, entre outras coisas, fazendo com que a obra seja complexa a ponto de fazer o leitor refletir sobre diversos temas, sendo: prostituição, pedofilia, poder do dinheiro, corrupção, tráfico de armas e drogas, guerra de gangues, violência juvenil, e desigualdade social (foi o que lembrei agora).
Apesar do final da história ter me revoltado, foi um bom final se tratando da narrativa e o que foi construído. Gostaria de ter visto um final feliz para o Ash, ele merecia muito.
Além disso, a edição final contou com capítulos extras, mostrando no passado como Ash conheceu o Shooter; o Eiji e o Shing 7 anos após os acontecimentos de Banana Fish; um pouco mais o passado de Ash, no que tange seu trauma e os abusos que sofreu; e como o Eiji conheceu o Ibe, fazendo o link com o salto com vara que o Eiji usa no início da história.
Bom, foi um final triste e uma história pesada, com temas bem intensos, mas valeu a pena a jornada por esses 10 volumes.

After one year and a half reading Banana Fish, I can say is one of my favorites. This story has the perfect balance of drama, entertainment and action. All conveyed through a great cast of characters.
This volume collects a bunch of short stories along with the end. It was fine. I’m not a fan of how Ash’s arc concluded but it made sense with what’s happened throughout the story. As for the short stories, some worked(“Private opinion” was my favorite) and others didn’t.

Todo o capítulo the garden with holy light partiu meu coração, a expressão do Ash na foto “amanhecer” quase me fez chorar. Ele estava realmente confortável. Ele estava sorrindo, porque “você não está sozinho. Eu estou ao seu lado. Minha alma estará sempre com você.”.

Después del tomo 3, este es sin dudar el que más dolor me causó, fue un sentimiento de impotencia demasiado grande. No pensé que una mangaka se ensañara tanto en hacer sufrir a su protagonista (aparte de Gege Akutami).
La carta de Eiji fue hermosa, parecía toda una carta de amor (incluso Sing lo dice en uno de los extras), la reacción de Ash mientras va leyendo y cuando ve e boleto de avión, cuando entiende que no puede dejar las cosas así, que hay un futuro con alguien que lo ama y va a buscarlo, pero luego...
Como todos mencionaban, Eiji fue la única debilidad de Ash que era capaz de destruirlo. Se que muchos no entienden que Ash se dejara morir, pero, creo que él entendió que por mucho que quisiera dejar esa vida; su pasado, sus enemigos y sus secretos siempre se interpondrían. Tenía 2 opciones, seguir viviendo en ese mundo de violencia, con un montón de traumas del pasado y con la posibilidad de que la persona que ama salga herida o, rendirse y elegir tener una muerte tranquila en el que Eiji podría vivir. Ash fue un poquito egoísta, sabía que su muerte destruiría emocionalmente a Eiji, pero seguiría vivo y creo que el ya estaba demasiado cansado de todo.
Sobre los extras, me encantó ver a Ash de niño como un gato con el pelo herizado y bufando. Pero también, a través de la vista de Blanca, como un niño herido y traumatizado. Tengo gravado a fuego a Ash diciendo que todos los hombres que lo abusaban tenían una mirada vacía en la cara y que siempre terminaban diciendo que era culpa suya por seducirlos, pero él solo era un niño. El extra de Shorter y Ash fue también muy lindo, vez como Ash tan inteligente, incluso aprendió a usar su apariencia como arma. La amistad de esos dos es como una curita al corazón que te arrancan de un jalón.
Y que decir del extra de Eiji y Sing cuando son adultos... al igual que el anime, leí el manga y los extras en el 2018/2019, y está vez que los releí, dolió lo mismo. Te quita todas las esperanzas de que Ash este vivo y vez como Eiji jamás pudo superar su pérdida,al punto de que lo evadia lo más posible. Y luego Sing enamorado de él, tratando de ganarle a los recuerdos de Ash y luego entendiendo que por más que se esforzará jamás sería suficiente... Duele.
Y bueno, el último extra de Ibe y Eiji, es bonito, es como un pequeño descanso de tanta tragedia pero si es un poquito aburrido.
