The early 1890’s were a violet time for Wyoming. The open range cattle barons of the past came head to head against the new homesteaders. Blood stained the prairie and a new breed of outlaws moved into the new state. Government corruption and lax law and order left the citizens unprotected until the Army took control.
The Tales of Wyoming are a collection of interconnected short stories of the Old West. Each story is a standalone adventure. A Range War builds upon the characters and relationships created in the other stories.
As the open range cattle life that had been so successful in the early days are now coming to an end, it has become a lawless battle for the land and it is seeing escalations in the violence being inflicted with excuses and cover ups being part and parcel of what is becoming the norm but when it gets to the point where the army are called in can the range war be de-escalated?
Another excellent piece of writing that has a great story plot to base everything around and is one of the strongest of the books in the series. The small markdown for a few editing issues but these are easy to overlook.
The earlier works were often filled with the characters interacting with each other and a fair amount of dialog. While I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series it was more narration of events rather that character interaction. A Range War was much closer to a historical story from the narrators first hand perspective. I highly recommend this book if your fascinated by stories of the expansion of the United States during the late 1800's.
