This could very well have been a 5 star. But it's been 3 weeks since I've read it and I don't recall my exact feelings of this one compared to the volumes surrounding it, in which I read consecutively.
But best believe that this is a fantastic series and worthy of your time and attention. At only 3 volumes in, I can say that this is worth all the hype it's given. The world building is so rich and easily digested. The characters are quickly lovable and impossible not to root for. The intrigue is there from page one. I am so enjoying this series and plan on finishing it in 2024.

This volume starts off explosive with Edward going head to head with Scar.
See, Scar is one of those rare overpowered characters I was interested in right away because of his actions. Terrible things he does doesn't mean it is for no reason, not a the typical screaming laughing evil character but instead intriguing broken one. After the major fight things slow down and both brothers need some serious fixing up.
In comes Winry! But accompanying the brothers is Alex Louis Armstrong. A very happy go lucky character built like a tank. We also get to see a lot more of the evil characters this time around.
Overall a really solid volume that does slow down and hurt it a bit in the middle but by the end you're right back in it.
A 4 out of 5.

Whoever put these Fullmetal Editions together has ended the first two volumes at the literal most perfect spot ever both times. Each volume so far has left off on a huge, amazing cliffhanger that has left me thirsting for more and I cannot pick up the next volume at least until next weekend dang it! How and I going to survive?!
In this volume we didn’t have to read through the introduction chapters so I had a really good time. We are quickly getting a lot of juicy information, a lot of questions and threats are being posed and the plot is thickening by the chapter. Whereas the first volume took time for me to fall fully into it I am happy that the story has now gripped me. I can completely see why this series is so well beloved and I’m only 2 volumes in.

Kinh nghiệm của mình là, mỗi khi cảm giác không theo kịp tiến độ đọc, hãy chọn ngay 1 cuốn truyện tranh hoặc Nguyễn Nhật Ánh :)))
Nói qua về bề ngoài trước, tập 2 này Kim Đồng in về cơ bản là giống tập 1, tuy nhiên có 2 bookmarks khá đẹp (bổ sung cho tập 1 không có bookmark). Chất lượng giấy ổn, dù có đôi khi vãn bị xuyên thấu chút như tập 1 (nhưng mình hoàn toàn không để ý lắm). Với mình, giá tiền này là hợp lý cho 1 cuốn truyện dày và in chỉn chu thế này.
Về nội dung, cuốn 2 mình đánh giá nhỉnh hơn cuốn 1. Một số nhân vật bắt đầu được khắc họa tính cách rõ nét và riêng biệt hơn, bí mật về hòn đá triết gia bắt đầu gây tò mò và hứng thú với người đọc. Các phe phái chưa lộ mặt, ta chỉ cảm nhận được phần nào sự đan chéo và phức tạp của các phe phái trong này.
Truyện cũng có 1 số đoạn đáng suy ngẫm, ví như khi Al bị chất vấn: làm sao cậu biết mình là con người với quá khứ như thế, mà không phải nhân cách và ký ức của cậu là thứ được tạo ra. Thời đại sắp tới, câu hỏi này sẽ có càng nhiều ý nghĩa và thực tế hơn. Câu trả lời của gã đồ tể đặt ra câu hỏi cũng rất hay: tao chém giết, tức là tao tồn tại.
Hơi buồn vì 2 tháng Kim Đồng mới ra 1 cuốn mới, giá mà 2 tuần 1 tháng gì đó là đẹp.

Volume 1 was okay—a little bit Artemis Fowl, a little bit Cowboy Bebop. But the second volume makes the first book seem like just a prologue for the real story. The series rapidly gets better with volume 2, and I'm looking forward to continuing on. (Though the introduction of the replicant "How do you know you're real and not just someone else's memories" idea in the lab no. 5 scene seemed to come out of nowhere.)
The deluxe Fullmetal Edition hardcover is so nice to read; I can think of a number of other manga series that I wish were published in this format.

I gotta say, I feel like the anime stacks up well against the manga. Both do a great job keeping up the action and giving characters time to shine. We get a little more backstory on the deadly and mysterious Scar. I’m farther ahead in the anime right now and I’m shocked to see how anti-war this series is. It really goes out of its way to express the horrors of war and how both sides inevitably lose. I’m very excited to read more and I know this review is a bit shorter than most of my others but I figured it’ll be fine. Getting into the nitty gritty seems pointless. Right now we’re building the story up and that’s okay.

Esta historia se pone cada vez más interesante y me encantan todos los personajes que he conocido hasta el momento.
En este segundo tomo continuamos junto a los hermanos en la búsqueda de la piedra filosofal y por lo que he leído ese camino no va a ser para nada fácil. Los pobres cada vez que dan con una pista nueva se encuentran con un obstáculo que les generará muchos dolores de cabeza y con secretos bastante macabros detrás de la alquimia.
PD: Amo a Winry y su abuela creo que se va a convertir en uno de mis personajes femeninos favoritos.

There is a good reason this is such a beloved series: mangaka Arakawa has done a superb job of creating a fully nuanced story: pathos, humor, fantasy, horror, thriller, magic, adventure - it's all here. In this second collection, featuring color pages at the beginning, the main mystery arc is given more attention with plenty of hints that things are no so benign in Central City.Story: A killer is on the loose, targeting licensed state alchemists. When the Elric brothers encounter him, they find his power to be fearsome. But there are far nastier and more deadly things lurking in the shadows of the city - and the military itself. As Ed and Al slowly unravel the mystery of the philosopher stone (the item they need to return their bodies to normal) they uncover a horrifying reality that makes them realize a frustrating reality: the closer they get to returning their bodies, the greater the chance that their hopes will be dashed. For there is something protecting the secret - and that something is not bound by morality or conscience.
The translation here is excellent and it is obvious that much was done to streamline the personalities as well as the feel of the brothers and side characters. The presentation is is clean and this edition is a pleasure to read.
As with most manga editions, it ends on a cliffhanger. Readers will need to delve into volume 3 as the brothers get closer and closer to finding the answers they have been seeking all series. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Posso confermare che la trasposizione audiovisiva di questa storia è fedelissima all’originale sceneggiatura dell’autrice e disegnatrice Arakawa.
I fratelli Edward e Alphonse vi entreranno nel cuore. Questa è una storia di coraggio, fratellanza, amore, guerra; ma soprattutto è una storia che fa riflettere sulla natura umana, sull’etica, sulla moralità.
Le tavole sono estremamente chiare ed espressive. Questa edizione poi nasconde sotto le sovracopertine alcuni disegni preparatori e all’interno delle tavole a colori che personalmente stamperei in formato gigante e appenderei per tutta la casa.
Nonostante le tematiche cupe e profonde, non mancano scenette gag e dialoghi dalla tagliente ironia.
È il giusto equilibrio tra lacrime e sorrisi che rende questa serie il capolavoro che è.

Ahem, anyway. It was nice to see one of my favorite characters in this series. I also loved seeing how subtle Arakawa is because Roy is clearly trying to kill Scar up until he realizes that Scar is Ishvalan, then he goes “you’re surrounded, Scar” and tries to let him live. God, Arakawa is so amazing.

It’s an odd feeling going back and reading what you’ve watched from possibly 2 anime. Admittedly, I have not seen all of Brotherhood, so it does make future volumes more anticipated since the Brotherhood anime followed the manga more closely. I enjoyed this volume a lot. It’s just so darned funny in places. And Edward...I still hear Vic’s voice when reading. I also hear Alphonse’s voice too (from the original anime).
Definitely recommend and well worth the 5 stars.

Pertarungan sengit Erdward vs Scar!!
Senang sekali bisa menyelam kembali ke dunia Elric bersaudara setelah sekian lama! Saya takut kurang menghargai pekerjaan Arakawa sensei dari sepuluh tahun yang lalu, tetapi sama sekali tidak: Saya masih sangat menyukainya. Dan versi yang diterbitkan ulang ini luar biasa!!!

Коли в історії знову з'явилась собака, я подумала "О ні, невже знову?!", але все обійшлося.
Тому цей прекрасний томик делюкс отримує від мене п'ятірку!
Все ще багато білих плям, стає все цікавіше, дві групи антагоністів, філософський камінь, моральна проблема головних героїв... Все круто, окрім того, що їм 14 і 15 (і супер-дупер механіку теж 15).
Ну не вірю я в таке 😭😭😭
