Eclipsing the Flames

Rate this book
Losing everything takes it's toll. As Eclipse sat in her cell, she remembered how good her life had been even just one year ago. She couldn't even put together the pieces and fragments that led to her rotting in a cell. None of it made sense. How could she have been so stupid? She tore off chunks of her dry bread and moodily tossed them to the rats crawling around. Anything to stave their hunger off. She had enough bites already. Of course, there was a way she could get out of this hell hole. All she had to do was betray every single thing she ever cared about and bind her soul to the command of an old man with nothing left to lose. Just like her.

A great second book in the series!

I really liked the first book in this series and the second one is just as amazing! I know there’s two more books in this series and I can’t even imagine where the author will take this tale. I absolutely recommend this book!

Fearless!!!

I had the privilege of reading the first book of this series and I must say that the author did not disappoint!!! I was able to pick up where I left off and I was instantly hypnotized by this author's storytelling abilities. Eclipse Monohue is a young woman who continues to journey on her path of self discovery. Tests of her strength and self worth pushes her to the brink. She makes a decision to stand up for herself and demand respect in a country where women are not put in positions of authority. She is also torn with memories of her past life. The author continues to shine with her unique writing and world building skills.

I should mention first that this book is second of three books - you really should read them all but the comments here apply to all of them. They are well written. The main character is a young girl who betrays her people and her evil father (because she has to), a fierce warrior, telepathic, and fearless. She is also truthful, resourceful, and endearing. So we follow her through this wild world and it's full of surprises - and she tries to find herself in spite of it all.

Flames picks up straight from where Tide ended. Eclipse’s army of Emilies have been completely decimated and she is out for revenge. Thinking the people responsible are the enemy of her country, the Central Libertarians, she heads straight for their capital and crashes the grand council’s meeting with the soul purpose of killing them all. But it becomes quickly apparent that they were not responsible. Which leaves the only logical answer as to who did. Her father, Victor. In shock she surrenders to the Central Libertarians and is promptly thrown in jail. After spending weeks with the filth and the rats and enduring insults from other prisoners, Joey, the war strategist offers Eclipse a startling proposition. She will be released from prison and a job as his apprentice if she swares an oath of loyalty to him and his country while betraying her country by spilling its secrets. Shocked Eclipse eventually agrees and so starts her life as a Central Libertarian. It doesn’t all go smoothly at first. Central Liberty and Chrosia are sworn enemies and a lot of people don’t accept her and are very hostile, which leads Eclipse down a dark path. But after a few years she slowly forms relationships with some of the people and even starts to love them even if it is a alien concept to her. However this love is put to the test with the threat of all out war with Chrosia ever lingering and when the final battle happens Eclipse may lose the people she loves. Just as the first story was, this is magnificently written and I really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend.

A lovely read for me and I suspect for many if you’re a fan of fantasy!

The fantastic journey of Eclipse braving the challenge of adversity and adventure continues in book 2. Standing for what’s right is always a theme that we all root for in our daily struggles and I find her an incredible personality to follow in her journey. Highly recommended! When you have Jaquish book, you’re in good hands.

Liked the first book and this one was a good one as well! It’s such a continuing story that I cannot wait to read more. It is so well written! It makes people see that you do not need to be brave but that it takes time to get there. I want more from the author!

A great addition to the series. I highly enjoyed how Eclipse's growth came about. The epic battle at the end was great to read. Can't wait to read onwards.
