Bree can’t wait for the endless winter to finally be over. With snow locking the whole countryside in ice, the long-awaited October Horse project has come to a screeching halt. The racehorses haven’t arrived yet, Nicholas is too busy with university to visit the farm, and Chloe is constantly torn between the barn and home. To top it off everything is frozen and there is endless work to do. Only the hope of finally riding Ace is keeping Bree’s spirits up.
Meanwhile, Angelika has found a rehab project of her own. This time it’s not a horse that needs rescuing but a young singer who needs a second chance and a safe place to land. When the new horses arrive, everyone will need to pull together to make their dream a reality.

This is the second book in this series and the second I’ve read by this author. I gave the first in this series a 5 because the characters were well developed and the story was different than any other I’d read about horses. Bree overcame her cancer and had a coming of age type story. The coming together of all the characters was good because they all grew together.
This book diverged into Addie and her singer family. I can’t say I enjoyed this divergence. There were too many family members and I chose the book to read about horses and not a singing career. I wanted more horses. The first half had very little about horses and I almost put it down. I wanted to know about the October horse venture and the training.
I understand that Bree’s sister is a singer and their relationship needs to heal but I just was not much interested in chapters about Adie and Chloe except how they related to Bree. In my opinion, the author added too much in this book and so found myself skimming the chapters about those other than Bree. I felt that Bree’s and Julie’s and Lorne’s story were unfinished and so I didn’t want to read about more people.
However, the last half of the book was more about horses and Bree’s story so I bumped the stars up from a 3 to a 3.5 stars but I feel that the focus was off the horses too much. I do want to finish the series and that is another reason for the 4 stars.
Lacks the magic and warmth of the first book. Nice to see the brief cameos by familiar characters from the first book, but with essentially no real story here, other than for Adie, and it seemed like it took 3/4 of the book before it got anywhere at all. I kept waiting for the bits and pieces of plot in the story to actually progress into, you know, the story, but they just remained bits and pieces. Adie's story is kind of nuts, such that it doesn't really resonate, without either being less nuts or having more character development. Also, Adie comes across as being about 10 years old, when I think she's supposed to be Bree's age. I honestly don't know how the book is as long as it is, with so little going on. What's up with Jeremy character? Why even have bothered with him? I thought maybe the plot was waiting for him, but then he arrived after all this build-up and then basically did nothing. This book did not achieve being more than a collection of characters. I'd say I'm disappointed, but I enjoyed the first book so much that I'll just keep re-reading that one and forget about this one, which will not be hard.
Healing for Both Horse and Rider This book is the second in a series that needs to be read in order. Each book builds upon the last and I think a new reader would miss important details if they did not start at the beginning. In this episode, the horses and riders get settled into their new lives. Each has past problems to address, and when they do, healing begins. This is a well-done series that will tweak the emotions of any horse lover.
This book had alot of good information about horses and taking care of them. I enjoyed the characters who looked after the horses also. The family dramas was very emotional and the horses seem to have a way of healing personal hurt. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.
I have never read one of Genevieve's books that I haven't enjoyed. This one was slightly different with the two points of view but Adie was perfect. I also loved the small cross over moment from her Defying Gravity series with Pender and Rabbit!
I loved this one! It was fun to read this book and remember giving lessons for Western riding. The author blended a good storyline with real horsemen ship every well!
Loved this book as much as the first one! It’s so well written and I could just put myself right into the story, like I was part of the group too. I’ve loved reading these books more than any others I’ve read in a long time!
I love horses and I am loving this series. Each book in the series focuses on a different main character and their struggles, but it all takes place in the same barn. And the horses, wow, the horses. I have always had a love for horses but have not had the opportunity to ride them or spend much time around them. I am so glad I am learning so much about the day to day care of these magnificent animals in a story format. Will look for more by this author.
