A southern stranger for one night? Yes please.
Don’t have to see him in the morning? Even better.

But what if he showed up again? I could deal with that.
And if he showed up as my boss? Oh boy…

I think this is one big joke.
When I opened the door to his office and saw his face, I knew that my nightmare had come true.
The same stranger who had kissed my curves so adoringly was now looking at me like I was a mistake.
To be fair, I was looking at him the same way.
He was a mistake.
A delicious one.
A grumpy one.
This hot mistake came with consequences in the form of… rules.
Look, I am okay doing hot men, but I don’t do rules.
Not the ridiculous kind anyway.
My boss is determined to make me obey.
And I’m willing to let him try.
Even if the end result is a secret baby that would turn my world upside down…

Dominant bosses, sassy bbw’s, loads of office drama and angst! Each book in the series can be read on it’s own, promises oodles of kindle melting heat and of course, a very passionate happily ever after. His Rules is Ryker and Nina’s story.

ATROCIOUS!!

I'm not usually a person to write bad book reviews. Writing is free expression and you can write pretty much whatever you want. But this is probably one of the worst books I've ever read for so many reasons. I apologize in advance for the length of this review but I feel very strongly about this book.
It is common in this genre of books to have a few editing mistakes. But the exorbitant number of careless errors from periods in the middle of sentences, to words or phrases repeating like she erased a sentence but didn't erase the whole thing, to the words that seemed to have been autocorrected into the wrong words, to words just completely missing from sentences. It was utterly horrid and it makes me wonder if she knew how awful this story was and couldn't bring herself to read it again to check for mistakes.
And that brings me to the story.
There were so many inconsistencies in her descriptions that my head was spinning as I flipped through pages trying to figure out what was going on. Granted it was usually with relatively small things but there are no visuals in this book so the picture has to be painted with words. And if your words are not consistent, I can not immerse myself in the picture.
Another HUGE issue is the "bad guy" of the story is completely forgotten about before he does anything bad. The book goes on for a MINIMUM of twenty chapters with no action from this man, and then in the epilogue he returns to do simply say he did something bad behind the scenes. And there response is basically, "oh well, we're figure it out later." WTF?!?!?
The most infuriating and distasteful thing about this book is the romance between the main characters. Which immediately makes anything that could have been enjoyable (which I personally found to be absolutely nothing) utter garbage! Nina flees to California to escape an emotionally abusive relationship and ends up IN ANOTHER EMOTIONALLY ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP!! She evens spends large amounts of time comparing Ryker to her controlling ex, saying his controlling isn't as bad as Alan's so this is better. And even when she is actually triggered by his controlling and emotionally abusive behavior, it is because she is reminded so strongly of that traumatic experience that she gets afraid and angry with him. His behavior is identical to her ex boyfriend's and we are given no reason other than "there's something about him" as to why this is ok now. We are given no reason why they would love each other at all. They don't know anything about each other. They have no chemistry or not work related conversations that aren't sex related. He does arguably one thing that can be considered romantic that wasn't for his selfish reasons. Even in the end, she says everything is a perfect as it can be with a man who is intense and controlling. Which sounds like justification to stay in an abusive relationship.
Aside from these major issues that I've gone on too long about, there was no story. There were story ideas that were introduced but not fleshed out. All of the characters (most notably Nina) lacked depth and development. There was zero character growth.
I considered this book vile and infuriating at worst, boring and a waste of time at best.

hot contemporary

This is sort of instant love that morphs into an office romance and I thought it was great 👍 it has a nice amount of 🔥 and there is HEA with a teaser for the sequel. I am sure that you will like it as much as I did. The characters are quite good 😊

I seriously don't know how I finished this book. It was all over the place and I really was close to DNF, but I decided to see if it got better...it didn't.

It started out really good, but a fade to black in the beginning and then jumping ahead 1 year always gets on my nerves.

It didn't really get better and I never connected with any of the characters, tbh I actually hated most of the characters in this book...sigh.

Nina Owens & Ryker Williams chemistry is off the charts. When the story talks about their vulnerabilities. Nina leaving her hometown of Missouri to leave an volatile relationship from a doctor. To come out & start over in California after visiting her friend last year. Who convinces her she can make it & not rely on that jerk. She never thought she would see the man who she had the most amazing, passionate hook up of her life. Though the party hook up man was kind, warm, dominating, but never threating, undermined her self-worth. It was one of the best nights of her life. She knew her hook up from the party as Ry.

Ryker Williams was building his reputation within the family business alongside his father. When it came to business Ryker wanted to earn his father’s respect as well as reputation in the business world. They were determined to make the family business successful & never allow Monroe Industries every win or be involved in the Williams company. They knew their competitor’s reputation as cutthroat & didn’t care about small businesses. Just take for his own needs, which included getting their hands one any of Williams’s endeavors.
Ryker has been with women but nothing serious nor anyone he wanted to build a future with. Even though his father told him along with the two woman in his father’ life. That he needed to start looking for the “one”.
Ryker just wasn’t interested in settling down to be a husband & father in his own right.
Well, that changed when his father died suddenly. Then the two women in his life. His father’s personal Assistant of over 30 yrs. & Felicia the companies’ VP both said, it’s time to start looking for a wife. They both knew all he did since his father’s death was think, eat & breath on how to expand the business. He wanted his father’s legacy cemented in the business world.
The Williams’s company was known to have a great reputation. Though it was also known that their equity was not as strong or secure as their competitor’s Monroe industries had. Monroe always seems to know when they were attempting to acquire, or begin a new venture to build up their capital. The CEO was greedy, selfish & determined to get his hands on Ryker’s company. That just wasn’t going to happen. On Ryker’s watch. But he had to make wise investments, one being with a Greek Shipping tycoon. Who wanted to sell the family business because his son was not interested in continuing the family trademark.
Before Ryker could do anything, he needed to have Felicia replace his right-hand assistant. Mrs. Peacock who had decided it was time to retire. She watched Ryker grow up, but she worked for his father. It was time, for her to have a life of leisure. Nothing was going to change her mind.
Felicia went thru the several candidates for Ryker to review. One in particular resume Felicia was intrigued & believed would be a good fit was from a young woman who recently graduated with her business degree Nina Owens. Nina fresh, young willing to learn & grow within the company.
Felicia asked Ryker to look thru the pile of potential candidates she picked. Mr. Williams trusted Felicia’s opinion. So when she informed him of interviewing the applicant, He told Felicia to hire the one she saw fit. He would train the new employee when they arrived the following week.
Nina couldn’t believe that she got the job, just by a reference from her friend who moved to California over a year ago. She remembers coming out to visit her friend to escape her controlling, volatile doctor boyfriend Alan. But when her instincts told her that Alan’s verbal, degrading abusive behavior was becoming on the borderline of physical, that is when she took up her friends suggestion to come move to Los Angeles & find a job.

Ryker didn’t go out much now that his father passed. He focused on the company. Though over the last year he cannot forget the one night he had at a party. She was beautiful, feisty, submissive, but with boundaries. Ryker was not the type to degrade, abuse a woman. But this young woman got under his skin. He didn’t find anyone after that night that could meet his tastes, desires. He wanted a strong, independent, knows what she wants type of woman. Nina is all he got from the woman of his dreams that night a year ago.
Little does either one know they are about to meet up again. Though, their chemistry is off the walls. Felicia, or "The Rules in place to not fatrinice with employees will not allow Ryker to follow thru the temptation, desires he still has when he is introduced to Ms. Owens. His new Assistant & the woman he has been haunted by the last year.
Read what happens, when passion, desire, a business meeting in Greece happen to these two characters. Will they give into passion. Will Nina allow Ryker to control her in the bedroom? Will Ryker make some mistakes, so he doesn’t allow to be vulnerable by admitting he is falling for Nina. It’s more than sex? Or will he attempt to be the dominate one in their relationship when away from the office & states.
Then treat Nina as though she is just another hook up.
Read their passionate love story & see how it ends.
This story, is short, powerful, & continues in a series of other characters relationships. Each chapter is a standalone. You are not held with a cliffhanger of the characters. But the family business gets carried onto the other chapters in the series.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
(Believe me when I say you won’t put it down until the last page is read…you will find yourself getting upset cause someone called, texted or bothered you while reading this one, you will find yourself up at ungodly hours just to finish it knowing you have to be at work early (like 3am early) the very next day) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Nina and Ryker what can we say they meet at a company party and one thing led to another ending with a one night stand with a sexy as all get out man a year ago but one you never forgot about. The attraction was on point, the chemistry was intense and couldn’t be forgotten. Fast forward a year later they meet again but this time she is his assistant, the two of them butt head often but not because they don’t get along because they are both trying their hardest to ignore the magnetic pull between them with each day finding it more and more difficult to ignore. He is controlling, tries to make her follow his rules and she well pushes the envelope at every turn breaking each rule. Can they find middle ground, will they give in to the magnetic pull and will they find happiness?

While visiting her friend Jess in California Nina goes to her friend's family celebration and meets Ry who she thinks is punking her at first. He is gorgeous and can have any woman so why is he talking to her? They definitely have chemistry and hit it off so she does something she never does and ends up spending the night with him. They never exchanged numbers or last names and she heads back home never expecting to see him again. A year later life has brought her back to California but hours away from her friend as she tries to start a new life. She gets a job only to discover her one night stand that she knew as Ry is Ryker Williams her new boss and owner of the business. He acted like he didn't remember her.
Ryker life has been all about business for the last year as he tries to live up to his and his fathers legacy. He often thought about his one night stand but was shocked when she walked in his office. It was hard not acting on desire to touch her but he didn't know if she remember him plus he doesn't mix business with pleasure.
Rules are put in place when sparks begin to fly but rules are bound to be broken. Whose really bossing who? Who is really in control? Will misunderstandings, miscommunications and hurt feelings end things before they even get a chance to begin? Will her past come knocking on her door and threaten everything she has been trying to get away from?

Some redeeming qualities

There are good and bad things about this book. Nina hooks up with Ryker after meeting him at a party. A year passes and she moves to CA for a fresh start and to get away from her controlling ex. She gets a new job then finds out Ryker is her boss. There's a rule against office relationships and he's a jerk about it but they can't seem to help themselves.

The good - This is an interesting premise and the heat and attraction are real.

The bad - Typos. Major ones such as changing the reference to the wrong person. In one case Ryker says they met five years ago but it was one. Ryker is more of a jerk and more conflicted than he needs to be. He's the boss of a successful company and can make the rules. Although she keeps saying she's not a doormat, Nina acts like one every time she lets him get away with being a jerk. The ending isn't fully resolved. There may be a mole in the company and there's a threat to the business but that's just left unresolved.

I'm still giving it three stars because I cared about their story. Ryker mostly redeemed himself in the end although his very last rule was wrong. He should remember it on his own.

Inconsistent and kinda left with a cliffhanger 2.5 stars

Let’s start with the cliffhanger....the romantic side was complete, but the business side was left with a cliffhanger that sucked. I would hope the next book picks it up, but it seemed very important that the business side should have been complete with the H’s story seeing that it is his company. I was a little disappointed. The storyline was decent but the inconsistencies were very distracting. For an example, she was supposed to be tied up but he had her touch her breasts then she grabbed his head. Also, they met one year ago, but he tells his vp they met five years ago. Things like that I think should be washed out before publishing. Lastly, scenes kept being recapped from each persons POV. It was to much and the extra thoughts took away from the story. I loved the characters chemistry, but they were both a little childish. The H kept leaving and the h was a little temperamental and didn’t communicate well. Not a bad read, but not great either.

This is the first book I've read from this author and it was an okay read. I enjoy a story with a lot of steamy scenes but I need it to balance out with everything else going on in the story. For me, this story had more steamy scenes than it did everything else. Nina and Ryker were okay characters but their story seemed more about lust than love. I didn't believe in the love they felt towards each other. Even when Nina's ex showed up and Ryker found out the truth about everything, it was as if everything was glossed over. It amazed me how Felicia turned from foe to friend quickly when it came to Nina. She disliked Nina one minute and in the next she became supportive. It was too much too fast. The ending was sweet in a Nina and Ryker kind of way and I will give the next book in this series a try since I've already purchased it. I'm just hoping that there is a balance between everything in the next story. This was an okay read for me but its also a book that's a one time read.

The first book in the Dominant Bosses series, and my first time reading this author. This was a freebie on Amazon, so decided to give it a whirl, because, hey, free, and why not?

As I’m writing this a little while after I read it (because I’m slack on updating my reviews, clearly) I’m really struggling to remember this one in detail. I do remember that I didn’t like the balance of the dominance thing, and the secret baby thing just seemed like an added extra that just seemed to make the book longer.

There were some interesting elements to this book, I think mostly the side characters. I did get intrigued about what the outcome would be of the other characters and what their stories would be like.

I think this was okay, readable, and I finished it, but I didn’t fall in love with it, the characters, nor would I read it again. But I will read on to see what happens in the next book and give this author another shot.

Average plot, trope-filled, DNF

He's hot, rich, and controlling. And a rich man, in charge of a family business. And jealous. And kind of a jerk, but seXXXy.

She's beautiful, his subordinate (wink) in multiple ways.

An example:

"Warning bells were telling me that I should step back from the hot irritated sexy man because I felt like I was in danger. Not physically but that the line he had drawn was going to be crossed. A part of me wanted that, but that was the part I was remembering a year ago. I knew that crossing the line would only create more complications. He’d probably even find a way to blame me.

But I didn't step back. I wasn't going to let a man control me again. I wouldn’t shirk away."

Nope. Not alpha. All red flags, not red light district fun, and poorly edited - typos abound enough to be distracting.

DNF at 33% immediately after the above passage where he stalks her after an incredibly unprofessional business meeting.

His Rules by Ajme Williams has all the makings of a blockbuster. Nina and Ryker met and had a one-night stand a year ago. Now he is her new boss. What can go wrong? They are both adults so there is no reason they can't keep a professional attitude and work together. But when one is someone that is a bit bossy and controlling it gets to be more complicated than either thought possible. It is a must-read. This book has everything a good romance should have: humor, tenderness, passion, grief, romance, romantic settings, misery. genuine concern, a very satisfying ending, and good friends that have their backs. Oh, my gosh how could I forget broken hearts? I thoroughly enjoyed His Rules. I highly recommend it.

My pet peeve is a female lead who makes dumb and stupid decisions that just don't seem realistic. In the beginning we meet Nina who is sitting at a table when Ryker approaches and asks about a dance, yet she asks why he's asking the over weight girl and points out she doesn't have a thigh gap. What woman is going to start pointing out her body flaws when asked to dance, then start pointing out prettier women in the room?!
There were several decisions made by Nina that just make you roll your eyes, that I won't go into to spare spoilers.
There are so many glaring editing mistakes from inconsistent scenes to grammar to proper pronouns.
This was my first read by this author and over all the story line was decent and entertaining.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I could not wait to put it in my kindle app! I could not put it down! If you do not know AJME WILLIAM'S writing style then you will not enjoy this book!

It's a second chance love story trope between a strong willed sassy sexy curvaciuos woman Nina who hates to be controlled, meets and spends a night with gorgeous sexy dominant Ryker after meeting up at a party in California. One fantastic night together then their paths devide.

One year later Nina makes a new start after breaking off a toxic relationship by moving to California.
She starts her new job with a shocking discovery- Ryker is her new boss!

So starts their journey to acceptance, trust and love and to learn that there is certain rules that can be broken and compromises can be made concerning control. 😉

This is book one in the Dominant Bosses series and I cant wait to read the next, I loved this book and couldn't put it down, a great story!

Nina met Ryker a year ago when at a party with her friend Jess and they hooked up for a wild night of sex, something they both remembered still.

After leaving her controlling Boyfriend Alan and leaving the Mid-west she went to California and got a job as the assistant to the CEO of a shipping company, not knowing that the boss was Ryker, they were both shocked when they met and tried to stay away from each other.

There were a few ups and downs before they got their HEA, with a secret that nearly tore them apart.

It was nice to see characters from the strong brothers series in this book too.

Interesting Love & Drama

Not quite the intensity I was hoping for in this book, but overall a good storyline with some interesting turns. Nina’s “powerful woman” stance lacked a bit while succumbing to her desires, however, that is just my personal take on it. But her gutsy actions were compelling which helped. Ryker is pure deliciousness and fairly ridiculous at times and I did have some trouble connecting to his character. His staunchness only works in the bedroom when his controlling nature isn’t making stupid choices. I am new to this author, and while this book was a bit predictable and dragged at times I will probably read the next book in the series for a comparison.

Great storyline

First off let me say, I have never given this author a 3 star rating. I loved the story line in this book, and both the main and side characters. The steamy scenes between Ryker and Nina were off the charts, and although there were some big misunderstandings between the 2, both took responsibility, and found their HEA. The reason I gave 3 stars is solely based on the amount of errors, both sprlling errors, or a missing word, thus really took away from the story itself, as I found myself having to go back and re read a sentence or paragraph to make sure I was reading it correctly. This is the 2st time I have had this with this author, and it will not stop me from reading the reat of this series or her other books

I can't win with this author. Read two books by her and apparently she doesn't know how to use a question mark... Book is rough imo. I highlighted all the mistakes and ended up with over 40 with a few whole sections needing revisions. Parts of the storyline weren't consistent. Biggest issues I had was the mistake of time not staying consistent. Ry tells Felicia he met Nina five years ago. But the whole book it's said they met one year ago. I could let that go if it weren't for the next issue. Taner was four when Jess moved to San Diego but when he's introduced in this book he's still four butt Jess also has a one year old that she didn't move to San Diego with... so unless the child doesn't age like the rest of us, he should be at a very minimum five.

It gives me no pleasure leaving a 3 star review for this author but the issue of not editing takes away from our read as we are constantly stopped mid sentence with errors. Enough! These books all need to be fixed and updated. I don’t mind pointing out the odd one but I don’t appreciate a first draft especially when I buy. I have been with this author and supported her but I think our hesitation to leave less then a stellar review has mislead the author to believe we didn’t notice the sloppy shape even more so lately. The story was good as always but the edits are out of control and needs to be rectified. Editing is part of the authoring process, a vital part.

Great story but...

...the editing was absolutely abysmal. The teasers for this book made it impossible for me not to buy it and I was not disappointed in the tale that was woven. Ryker (not Ryan) and Nina met at a party one (not five) year ago. They shared a night of bliss, seemingly never to meet again. When she winds up working as his PA, things get too close for comfort and the sparks fly. Her getting pregnant opens up a whole new can of worms.

This book is a crossover from the Strong Brothers series. Jess from Wrong to Love You is Nina's bestie. It's on my TBR list along with the rest of the Dominant Bosses. Fingers crossed that the writing gets better.

Is it hot or is it the boss?

Nina met My on a trip to SoCal from Missouri in support of a friend and her husband's family business. Try latched on to the Raven haired woman and Nina dropped all of her inhibitions for the handsome businessman for a night the two would never forget. FF to a year later, Nina is a transplant to LA, needing a fresh start, and immediately gets a position as an assistant at Williams Shipping Company. When she arrives on her first day to meet her new boss, it's her one night stand from a year ago...have mercy! This begins the push and pull and the ultimate game of tug of war that will give you whiplash and gave you panting! ENJOY!

First time reading this author. The story in itself anit bad. The female takes on the main role. so the jist of the story is, One year ago Nina goes to a party where she meets Ryker after having the best sex of her life it's just a one night stand. After a while Nina leaves her boyfriend Alan who is controll freak to the point he needs to know her every move. She ups and leaves, making a new start. She takes a job and her new boss is the man she had a one nighter with Ryker.
I do feel like more could of been added as there are some unanswered questions, and things left up in the air. Hoping the answers are in book two.
The characters sort of grow on you

A great start to a new series!

A great start to a new series! Ryker and Nina had a strong connection from their first meeting, but it was only meant to be one night of pleasure. Until she ends up being his administrative assistant and their chemistry still sizzle. What happens next takes this office romance to a steamy heat level that doesn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the hot storyline with enough drama and heat level that made for an enjoyable read. I can’t wait for more of this hot series.

Wonderful read!

The thing that made this book stand out from the rest was the "fight and make up" tension that pulsed between them like a palpable force. So many key factors played into the end result. Felicia was in the right place at the right time to give Ryker a reason to doubt what he thought he heard. Also, the knowledge that Carter had the same experience with Jess as he was having with Nina, gave Ryker a clearer image of his feelings and gave Nina a quick hit of reality of what it felt like from the other side. Great read!

Our heroine had a really good one night stand, right up until she finds out he is her new boss.

This is a romance with a D/S element to it. The story is well written and easy to read with two complex characters that bring the story to life. The story starts off with a bit of a shocker, but that just is the catalyst for something much more fun. The story is very enjoyable and packs a nice bit of steam as well. The result was a fun read and I look forward to more from this author.

Highly recommended

Perfect story RUINED by typos

I absolutely adore Ryker and Nina, but the amount of typos, misspellings, and use of wrong names were like someone putting a wall in the middle of the racetrack. NOTHING ruins a great story faster than a lot of typos. A few; understandable. The amount in this story; ridiculous. I do hope you do some editing and republish updates. I will finish this series because I loved the story, but if you want to publish anything ever again and be taken seriously don't do your own editing or fire whoever edited this for you.

Good story, tons of missing and wrong words, very annoying

How does this author get away with not proofreading their work before submitting?? This is the second book I've read (read the 5th one first). Both good stories but littered with missing words, wrong words, and some missing/disjointed parts. I kept reading because I liked the story, but the distractions and irritation caused by the continuous sloppy writing are wearing me down. Too many other writers out there to keep being annoyed.
