Singularity Online #4

Primal Sorcerer

Rate this book
The city of Antas has been liberated, the dread lich Zoridos is dead, and the newly Evolved player Lily fled to parts unknown. Now, though, Aranos' real trials begin.
Geltheriel's Cleansing Quest is an impossible task, one set by a treacherous elven elder who wants Aranos to fail. To complete it, he has to travel to the lands of humans and dwarves, where he'll find new enemies and have to build new alliances, all while rediscovering powers lost for centuries.
His enemies aren't idle, though, and now the dark god Morx has taken a personal hand in the Sorcerer Ascendant's defeat.
Restoring the Arcane Doors is impossible. Freeing the lands of Darkness is impossible. Facing the Lord of Nightmares is beyond impossible.
But Aranos is determined to do the impossible. To overcome his enemies and protect those he loves, he'll have to wield powers beyond magic. He'll need to become more than a wielder of spells; he must become the Primal Sorcerer!
This is a LitRPG fantasy set inside a game with real world consequences. No harem elements, heavy adult language, some sexual situations.

Magic, Crafting, Leveling, Mayhem, and War

What is it good for? Huh: A damn fine read, especially when the OP protagonist is forced to solve a myriad of issues on the fly. It’s also nice that the MC makes mistakes (at least a couple of huge ones in this story) but he generally (not always) learns from them. He’s also smart, but no genius (more instinctual), so not only does ge make mistakes, but he does so on incomplete and/or incorrect information. This humanity makes him an underdog that you can cheer on. There’s also a great cast of supporting characters to help with different perspectives, side plots, and humor. They’re all well crafted, with unique personalities, attitudes, and motivations. You end up cheering for them all.

The action is fast, the battles are fast and descriptive, and the magic and tactics used are accurate for the encounter and current understanding. There are some random gaffs with names, or changing something a tad from the last book, but these are very minor and dismissible. Overall the stories do what any good story does: you want to see what happens next. You keep turning the page - and that’s proof the author is doing it properly.

It’s a GameLit series, so the the stats and mechanics are interesting and expected. However if the get a bit dry, skipping them doesn’t hamper the story at all. (Although then you won’t have a deeper appreciation on why a certain spell was chosen, how it changed from last time, and why it works - or doesn’t.)

This is a fine series in the genre, and I highly recommend it to anyone (15+) looking for something good to read.

Book 4 of a fantasy LitRPG or GameLIT series about a futuristic in-development VR system where people use it for a week or more to play in a D&D like fantasy world. I'm still loving this series especially how much focus there is on progression. So many skills, spells, perks, titles, mana types that can be unlocked, upgraded, or combined. I still really like how each book has its own climax and the story doesn't just stop/pause like most LitRPG series.

I haven't mentioned this yet in my other reviews but this series does get rather dark at times. Especially around the Lily character. Her past traumatic experiences are horrific and she in turn does terrible things to other people within the game. In this particular book this escalates further where her actions ramp up to a point where it feels almost like too much. Thankfully she does not have a lot of viewpoint chapters.

Detailed, strong LITRPG

I picked up this novel (and it's predecessor) because of Amazon recommendations... It does not disappoint - there are the obligatory Stats messages and menus , but to my delight the story takes and holds center stage. There is a MC who is strong but not overpowered, a foe who is not likable but still provokes an emotive response thru use of a detailed backstory and very good surrounding characters who each have their moments. It is a good length and contains enough mental imagery regarding how the MC improves his abilities while still retaining his humanity plus an unexpected ending. I will be continuing the series and look forward to the next installment.

Sorcerer really seems like a broken class, and now there’s another one

Aranos and his team are working for the Light in a way that the Darkness won’t sit for and soon enough it will come for him and his friends.

As his power and influence grow, Aranos and his new House are waging multiple wars and one is of opinion. An area where Golloron has great influence with the elven people of Eredain. As the adventure continues, he makes some progress on unlocked aspects as well as crafting new metals. His personal power is astonishing to most, even other players, well all but one. His self named nemesis, Lily, was nearly his equal in spellcasting prowess the last time they fought.
An engaging story grows further from the simple tale it began as…

Great addition to the series

Love the story line and the magic system, this book picks up where the last book left off and brings in new characters for us to get to know and enjoy, a few plot twist and tugs at your heart with other scenes.

My only minor complaint is that the profession introduced in the first book seems to have fallen by the wayside and become irrelevant with the least usefull hunter being equipped barely and barely level 2. Even a crafting one unlocked early seems more useful and he has not unlocked any new ones since the start

Amazing continuation!

Primal Sorcerer is a great continuation of the series. The mystery’s it introduces promises to be explosive in the next books. The character of Aranos is magically amazing as always, honestly one of the coolest parts about this world is the magic building.
There are a few discrepancies that must have been missed during editing but nothing too jarring, easily can be fixed and updated at a later date.

This Is The Middle Of The Saga — Go to book 1!

As this is my review of the fourth book of seven, it is obvious that I am intent on reading the full series and have enjoyed reading the story thus far. I suspect that anyone who likes the LitRPG, Dungeon Core, or Cultivater genres will enjoy this series of books. Fans of the broader Fantasy genre might also enjoy this series of novels as well.

Love the series

I really enjoyed this series. Its interesting and the world is well designed. This latest addition was a wonderful expansion and continuation.
I do believe that it could have done with some more editing. There were parts that referenced events that never happened or didn't happen the way they were being described.

Another excellent addition!

Having followed this series since the start I'm always impressed that Mr Johnson continues to grow and develop both the world and characters in believable manners!

For those who are new to the series, start at the beginning and by the time you reach this book you'll have fallen in love with all of the characters, both large and small!

Great book

I really enjoyed the book. It has everything that's great about litrpg. The only issue is that it includes profanity. That's why have it four stars instead of five.
Also thanks for including the main characters rewards for the final epic battle. I hate it when authors leave that for the next book.

Good But

The cliffhanger was totally unnecessary and somewhat soured my enjoyment of this book. It was also really hard to get back into this story. Please for all that’s holy, start your next book with the main character so my mindset can join the adventure instead of struggling to remember.

Continue to love this series

Been keeping up with this and I just continue to enjoy it. The characters are interesting and varied, and discovering more about the world is a joy. The mc doesn't have to take on each quest themselves which I feel like too many other stories do. It let's the plot continue at a good pace without being bogged down.

Truly incredible addition to the series

It's been a while since I read the first 3 books, and yet when I picked this 4th book up I'm reminded just how great this series is... from page one until the last it keeps you enthralled and reading long after you should be sleeping... well done, amazing world building, great characters, and so so much more.

Big ego

Not a bad read!!!!!!!!!. I did not like the harem aspect they tried to put into this book at all. The MC is also getting a little overbearing and pretentious. I love the magic and the OP aspect and hope they keep it going. While I wish the MC success it would be nice to see him humbled at least for a moment in the next book. His power is def going to his head.

He did it again.

Far too often as you get deeper into a series there can be a lot of fillers and questionable plot decisions. You will not find that here. Kyle is continuing to build this amazing world and characters. I can't wait for book 5!

I'm really enjoying this series so far and am eagerly awaiting the fifth book in this series. Hopefully it won't be too long. If you enjoy LitRPG I highly recommend giving this series a try.

Decent

Overall a good in game story, but for a supposedly smart MC, he lacks any use of that intelligence for the out of game story. If food, it’d be chain restaurant level that was good while eating, but ended in regrets.

Well done

This was a good book and decent continuation of the series. The MC is becoming quite op but still struggles. The dynamic between lily and the MC is odd to say the least. She is a little over the top evil character.

Keeps getting better and better

Can’t wait for the next installment! Kept my attention for hours on end. Glad it’s consistent and develop organically instead of just jumping from one point to another. Keep on the great work and I’ll be waiting!
