NY Times & USA Today bestselling author, Tricia O’Malley’s latest romance is a funny and heart-pounding story where booking a one-way ticket to paradise means starting over, letting go, and taking a chance on love…one more time.
When Paige Lowry discovers her boyfriend and boss, owner of Yoga Soulone studio, has decided her chakras need realignment in the form of inviting several bendy yoga instructors into their bed – she realizes it’s time to smack him with her yoga mat and namaste away. When she calls to cancel the studio’s upcoming Caribbean retreat, the last thing Paige expects is to be offered a job. What better way to give the middle finger to her old life than to hightail it to a tropical island to work at a fancy resort?
But all signs point to an impulsive mistake when she arrives at the dusty airport on Poco Poco Island and nobody is there to pick her up. The alcoholic owners don’t remember hiring her, the skeleton-staff barely holds the hotel together, and the moody yet gorgeous manager, Jack Byron, seems irritated with her very existence. Things go from bad to worse when Paige learns that her ex and his flexible mistresses are arriving in three days for the retreat she thought she had canceled.
Caught in the eye of the storm and her growing attraction to her new boss (been there, done that, didn’t turn out well), Paige must scramble to prove she can run this upcoming retreat with no disasters. But even she can’t be blamed for the hurricane that swerves left and suddenly has the tiny island in its sights. As tensions explode at Tranquila Inn, Paige learns that taking it poco poco might be the only way she’ll survive.

This was definitely an enjoyable read and Ms. O'Malley has written another lovely island setting. This is a stand alone book but I would love to see more stories on Poco Poco Island and the Tranquila Inn. Paige, Jack, CeCe, Whit, Mariposa, Luis and Martin all came alive from Ms. O'Malley's descriptive writing. Family, new friends, new challenges and romance made this one of those books that drew me in from the first page.
Sister, have you ever been scorned? Have you been heartbroken and humiliated by an A-hole who was supposed to love you? Has karma failed to deliver your well deserved compensation? Have your “revenge-body” not quite work out? Well, this book is for you. You can start over on a tropical island, watch your ex make a humongous ass of himself - and fall on his stupid face repeatedly! - all while kicking butt at your new job, making new friends and fall in love with a golden-hearted hunk who will make sweet love to you in paradise. It’s every woman’s fantasy - and ultimate guilty pleasure.
I don’t understand all the positive reviews here. I listened to the book as a light option for a long drive. The narrator was horrible. The dialogue was inane, the characters were vapid, the writing trite. I only got through 75% of the book, when my long drive ended. If all of O’Malley’s books are this shallow, I won’t look for or read any of her other books.
Paige Lowry discovers her boss and boyfriend in bed with two women and he has zero regrets..Paige just loses it. She has been managing his yoga studio for two years. She calls to cancel the retreat that was scheduled for the studio at a Caribbean island and the hotel owner hires her to be their events coordinator. She impulsively takes the job as now she is without a job, or place to live and likely luckily- her boyfriend too. She arrives at a dusty, hot airport from a little puddle jumper of an airplane with only a couple of backpacks in tow. Noone is there to pick her up and the fancy resort is not quite what she expected, the owner doesn't remember hiring her. Jack Byron, the manager is irritated with her when she arrives and the owners are already onto happy hour. Meanwhile, she finds out that the yoga studio retreat is still going to happen and now she has to run it at the hotel while babysitting her ex...UH oh! A fun read and some interesting insights into human nature without being too heavy.
Turn on the cold shower ladies!!! Grab your favorite beverage, Kleenex and if you have a weak bladder...... ;) This stand alone from Miss Tricia is another fun read. I want to trade places with Paige, she is a woman, who even scorned, can be the ultimate event coordinator. Her level of patience in dealing with the ex, and his lovers as well as trying to deal with her new bosses makes her the ultimate super woman. No witches (Mystic Cove series), no mermaids (Siren Island series) just the perfect mix of LIFE!! The joy, anger, pain, compassion, heartbreak and love are what we deal with on a daily basis. I recommend this book as a great read because it gives the heroine real life issues and she is empowered by them. I received this book as a beta-reader and my review is my honest opinion of it.
This book was absolutely terrible! How are there so many 5 star reviews? I just don’t get it.
At the start of the novel, out FMC walks in on her boyfriend of two years have a three way with two of his yoga instructors. His excuse is “you know I have an open door policy” which Paige thought meant applied to his clients at his studio not the bedroom. Well, she was wrong. So the boyfriend kicks her out.
Paige is the coordinator for the ex’s yoga studio, so she decides to do one last job for him by cancelling their tango retreat in Poco Poco. When she calls, the owner says “oh I just lost my current coordinator. Why don’t you fly over here and work for me?” Paige says yes (who does that?!) and flies to Poco Poco where she meets a taxi driver that refuses to driver her to the resort (that is your first red flag girl) and the first person she meets at the resort is a man named Jack who is a complete jerk. I stopped reading when he spied on her while she slept naked in her bed. Dude, have some decency!
When Paige meets the owner who hired her, the woman completely forgot she hired someone and refused to talk about work while drinking or eating.
I gave up when the bedroom naked scene happened because I was at the 20% mark and hated everything about this book. It is not realistic at all! First book by this author and it will be my last.

DNF 40% in! I do not understand all the 5 star ratings! Unhauled it from my Kindle. I hate Jack and I think it's a love story between the creep and the not so bright traveler. Everything is wrong with this book. (Sorry)

I was lucky enough to win the standalone novel, One Way Ticket, in a giveaway. As Tricia O’Malley is a new-to-me author, I had no idea what to expect with the novel. After reading, I will easily read more as the story was very entertaining and there was an ease to the writing style. The story begins with Paige Lowry, who is the business manager at Yoga Soulone in Santa Cruz, California. She and the owner, Horatio, have been in a relationship for two years, or at least Paige thought it was an exclusive relationship. Horatio, on the other hand, subscribes to an open-door policy and applies it to every aspect of her life. When Paige comes home one day, she discovers Horatio in bed with another woman. She breaks off the relationship, but as Horatio is also her boss, she no longer is employed. As the company was due to visit Poco Poco Island in the Caribbean soon for a yoga retreat at Tranquila Inn, Paige gives the hotel a call to cancel the reservation. During the call she speaks with the owner, CeCe Alderidge, who says that it was a fortuitous call as their resort recently lost their events coordinator. Before Paige can find a reason to refuse, CeCe has employed Paige to come work for her and come down to the island.
When Paige arrives on the island, she realizes that this might not be the perfect mix of vacation and work that she thought. Instead, the inn does not have the greatest reputation on the island and the hotel is full of a quirky cast of characters. The first person Paige meets on arrival is the surly Jack Byron, who is the resort manager, and she begins to wonder if she made a mistake. Without any money or any place to go back to, Paige decides to stick it out to at least to give this new life a try. Things become even more complicated when the first event that Paige must host at the resort is the Yoga Soulone one she thought was canceled. The story is full of a lot of humor, heart, and self-discovery. Not only does the story follow Paige as she tries to put her life back together and also learn to trust again after Horatio’s betrayal, but all the characters have their own stories that they are working through during the novel.
The tropical island setting was gorgeous and made me want to take a trip ASAP! I loved that there was a sense of community at the resort and how everyone knows everything about the rest of the island. It may be paradise most of the year, but I enjoyed the inclusive of tropical storms in the story. It gave a nice sense of reality as the hurricane belt in the Caribbean is just a part of life for many, but can be especially nerve-wracking for those experiencing it for the first time. Although Horatio was self-entitled, he was a nice source of humor when he arrives as a guest at the resort. The guests and the resort staff all were well-balanced in the story and were interesting. Overall, this was a very entertaining read and I cannot wait to try more from this author. [4.5 rounded to 5]
Tricia O'Malley has done it again! She has written another book with a strong heroine who sheds an unwanted job, boss, and lover and finds an unexpected job that takes her away to an island paradise. Paige Lowry has discovered that her boyfriend (the owner of a yoga studio and her boss) has been doing more than stretching with numerous yoga students! She calls to cancel the upcoming Caribbean yoga retreat and gets offered a job over the phone. So she quits, packs a small bag, and takes a one-way flight to Poco Poco Island.
When she arrives at a typical small, dusty island airport with no one there to pick her up, she thinks she may have been a bit impulsive. When she gets to the hotel, it's not the posh island retreat she had envisioned and the boozed-up owners don't remember hiring her! There are few hotel staff and the manager, Jack Byron, is surly and gorgeous! She gets the job but has a short time to prove herself as they have a group retreat coming in a few days!
It only gets worse as she soon finds out her ex and his bendy yoga students are arriving for the retreat she thought she canceled! It's not easy to get things done at the Inn as Jack seems irritated with her all the time. Paige pulls off all the preparations but has to deal with her ex's massive ego and mood swings as he tries to maintain control of the yoga retreat and Paige.
The ex's tantrums and major scenes, along with Paige's growing attraction to her boss, complicate her need to prove that she can handle this retreat without any problems. Now a hurricane (a major problem!) is headed straight for the island. Paige learns that nature has a way of dealing with life and straightening out one's priorities
It was an entertaining story of island life and island people, larger-than-life personalities, and the crazy world of the hospitality business on a small island. Tricia O'Malley creates marvelous characters, unusual and fun interactions between the characters, and plots that engage and entertain the reader. Her evocative descriptions make you want to be on that island and consider living there forever!
I received this book as a beta reader and this is my personal opinion. I highly recommend the book and most of all, the author.
QOTD: have you ever vacationed at a resort? My A: Nope! The closest I've gotten is an Inn and that's not even remotely the same thing in my book. This was COVID time so there wasn't even a breakfast let alone yoga sessions at sunset. 😅 . I have developed a slight addiction involved Kindle Unlimited and books set in tropical, summer settings. If I can't live it myself, I'm going to live it through my books! I'm also loving all these books with less than 500 reviews on Goodreads which makes me want to share the hidden gems I find even more! . This was my first Tricia O'Malley boo k and won't be my last! Set in sunny Poco Loco Island, One Way Ticket follows Paige on an adventure of a lifetime. The book starts with Paige walking in on her yoga guru boyfriend of two years in their bed with two young fellow yogis. When she calls to cancel a three week long yoga retreat happening on a tropical island, she instead is offered a job. Taking the leap and buying a one way ticket to paradise, all she can do is hope for the best. Instead there’s rude taxi drivers, overgrown weeds, drunk bosses and no guests in sight. The one thing that is in sight? A very attractive, very grumpy man. Cue the chemistry! And when that retreat she called to cancel is actually still on and her ex shows up with all his girlfriends and then some, well that’s when the real test begins. . I read this one in one sitting, flying through the pages as I was sucked into Paige and Jack’s story. All the characters were likeable, the relationship moved at a believable pace and there was steam! Honestly, can you ask for much more in a romance? Snag this one off of Kindle Unlimited!
Being stuck in the middle of the pandemic where most people are unable to travel and go with their dream destinations, this book provided me a wonderful escape. Poco Poco Island is a paradise in Caribbean that offers delicious foods, post-card worthy views, and unique people.
The book follows the main character Paige Lowry. When her crazy boyfriend cheated on her, she made an impulsive decision and that is to leave her life in California and without nothing she flew and worked as an event coordinator in Tranquila Inn, a strange place for her.
I ADORE THIS BOOK. The characters in the novel although they differ from each other and has unique personalities are all charming. The romance between Paige and Jack is admirable and cute, their first meeting is so funny. I also enjoyed the parts when Horatio, the ex-boyfriend, encountered his own karma. The twist in the end is also unexpected!
This book has also left me questioning at first; Why people make fun and avoid Tranquila Inn?, what is the real status of CeCe and Whit?, What is the tea between Jack and CeCe?, and etc. I've read the book quickly to find the answers.
If you love stories with topics such as letting go of the past and starting a new life, meeting new friends, families, and new-found love. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
Can't wait to read other books written by the author. ✨
I fell in love with Tricia O'Malley's Mystic Cove series and quickly became a huge fan and have since read everything else she's written. I'm so thankful to have been given the opportunity to be an early reader on her latest work. This is my honest review.
One Way Ticket is a stand alone novel and she knocks it out of the park once again! I find the stand alones to be so relatable. Tricia offers something that we can connect to our own lives, be it love, loss, friendship or humility. We've all times where we just want to up and leave our job, our loves and our lives and start over and that's exactly what Paige does! After realizing she's put everyone's wants and needs before hers, the main character, Paige takes charge of her own life with a giant leap of faith, leaving it all behind for a spur of the moment job opportunity on a Caribbean island.
She was strong and sassy and had me laughing out loud right from the start. Her new love interest, Jack, was rugged and no non-sense and together, they were fire. It was a joy to live vicariously through the team at the Tranquilla Inn and experience island life in a time where we're all missing travel so. This escape was exactly what I needed!
Tricia has a way with creating a world filled with intriguing characters, exciting adventures, heartfelt lessons and helping us find our own inner strength. One Way Ticket does all of this and more. Definitely a fun summer read not to be missed!
I really enjoyed One Way Ticket by Tricia O'Malley! In the book, Paige finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her. When she calls to cancel the studio’s upcoming Caribbean retreat, Paige was also offered a job there. Why not leave her old life behind and go to a tropical island to work at a fancy resort? When she arrives at the dusty airport on Poco Poco Island, nobody is there to pick her up. The alcoholic owners don’t remember hiring her. The hotel is barely holding itself together. Then there is the moody yet gorgeous manager, Jack Byron, who seems irritated with Paige's existence. Things go from bad to worse when Paige learns that her ex and his flexible mistresses are arriving in three days for the retreat she thought she had canceled. While being caught in the eye of the hurricane, Paige's attraction grows more and more towards her new boss. Paige has to find a way to prove she can run this upcoming retreat with no disasters. But even she cannot be blamed for the hurricane that swerves left and suddenly has the tiny island in its sights. I would recommend if you like romances and happily-ever-afters!
Well that is exactly what Paige did after discovering her boss had some side action going on and honestly took advantage of her super coordinator skills. Hopping on a plane to a tropical island where she thinks she has a coordinator job but not sure. That takes strength my friends!! Then the fun begins, sexy no nonsense Jack (need cold showers with that one) quirky retreat owners, cast of island characters, ex-lover and his entourage, rum punch flowing endlessly, hurricane and more!
I love Tricia’s lead characters like Paige where we can ALL relate to her from the strength we have within us, doubts, vulnerabilities and in the end, we realize we ROCK!
Grab some Rum Punch, head the to beach (if you can) and get ready for a knock-out of a summer read! Find out what happens to Paige and Jack- you will not regret it!
Thank you Tricia for another fun, crazy and heartfelt read that readers can slow down a bit-Poco, Poco, baby and escape!
Who knew that catching your cheating boss/boyfriend with 2 other women in bed would lead to you finding a job in paradise! That's what happened to Paige, she ends up being the event coordinator on a tropical island only to find out that her first conference is a 3-week retreat for the yoga studio her ex-boyfriend owns. It doesn't take long for her to fall in love with the hotel and staff and as expected her ex acts like a jerk but she stays professional and does a great job in spite of a hurricane at the very end of the retreat, if helps that she falls in love with Jack the all-around handyman/boss and while there are a few surprises along the way they find their happy ever after in the best way. Really good book couldn't wait to see what happened and read all night long till dawn because I just had to finish it.
We all dream of a trip to a tropical island. Paige is living that dream, although not quite by her choice. I love reading a book about a strong heroine who is finding her way. Jack is the perfect foil for Paige as he sees her strength and respects her decisions, even more than she does. Of course, she is gorgeous and he is an Adonis—what else would you expect on an island? And, of course, they will fight their way through obstacles to find each other as you would expect. What you don’t expect is the unexpected things that get in their way with laugh-out-loud humor and wonderfully believable characters. You will find yourself in love with this island get-away and looking for something similar in your own future. While you are waiting, pick up this book and have some fun.
Ms. O’Malley is well-known for 2 series, each getting wonderful reviews. You may think that would preclude a great stand-alone novel, you would be wrong! One Way Ticket is a fun ride! When it is not laugh out loud funny, it shows great insight into living life even when its hard. The story follows Paige, who finds herself in a unique situation after *finally* ending a soul-sucking relationship, only to watch her past and present collide. Life on a tiny island, learning to take things “poco poco,” realizing her inner strength, egotistical exes, and hurricanes are all part of her journey. I was rooting for her to see that “Maybe you didn’t run away. Maybe you ran to your life. Did you ever consider that?” This is a fun but thought-provoking read!
I enjoyed this story of a woman wronged by her last boyfriend and boss. Paige is a smart woman in all ways but one. She never expected her boyfriend of cheating on her. She is offered a job by a company that she had hired for Yoga Soulone, her old company to have a retreat at.
Paige meets the jack of all trades help, Jack. Jack runs the Tranquility Inn in Poco Poco and is basically one of the bosses that Paige reports to but she doesn't understand the hierarchy of the business. She just wants to be the event planner.
While working together Jack and Paige find that they have chemistry but Paige is too determined to have a good review of her job. Paige has to work with her old boss when he comes down to the Inn and she finds that it's hard since he wants to make her look bad.
Ms O'Malley said it all "sometimes she just has to write a stand alone story." Without a doubt this is one of the finest romance stories I have ever read. She is as artful in creating her characters and bringing them together while throwing in a bit of a mystery and terror with a happily ever after finish.
I am adding her to my all time favorite writers in this genre, Nora Roberts and Fern Michaels in this respect. I have read several of her series: Wild Irish Saga, Song sagas, Althea Rose and Siren Island. They are all excellent. I especially enjoy the "supernatural and mystical" aspects of all her tales.
I wholeheartedly recommend any and all of them to anyone who enjoys a good read.
I love this stand alone! Only Tricia O'Malley can make a Category 3 hurricane part of a love story, a convoluted one, but still an amazing romance! I love the amazing descriptive writing about the scenery, the secondary characters, and characters they absolutely were, but mostly the growth of two adults who have fixed things for others for far to long. Jack and Paige both needed to worry more about their selves, which of course led them to each other! I do not believe Tricia O'Malley can write a novel I will not read. She simply captivates one with her words and you cannot leave! I am excited for new series, but anytime there is a stand alone wobbly about your brain Ms O'Malley, please write it!
I truly enjoyed this story. Seeing them sort through tangled relationships and emotions. Real life emotion that you can relate to. Paige takes a job at the Retreat hotel on a tropical island her old job, exclusive yoga studio in California was going to go on and she had canceled the retreat before leaving from her old position because she no longer was going to be running it. Yet the studio rebooks the retreat. It’s awkward and funny seeing the interactions between yoga retreat clients and the hotel staff. Lots of laughs and serious moments. Well worth the read. Tricia O’Mallery writes another human story. ARC in exchange for honest review
