Clarke and Fairchild are drawn to Monaco in pursuit of a traitor's fortune which includes the most valuable painting in the world. Forced to work together despite their differences, they find it increasingly difficult to trust each other, particularly when innocent people are drawn into the chase.
They are not alone. The traitor Grom, an outcast from Britain and Russia, is ruthless in his determination to keep his assets while the Russian authorities are desperate to reclaim what's theirs. When a group of thieves sets its sights on the Monaco Freeport, the stakes get even higher. But nobody is who they first appear to be, and a bid for wealth and power becomes a fight for survival against a corrupt and wealthy elite.
The Colours brings together the themes of offshore money laundering, fine art, and the millionaire lifestyle in the lush setting of the French Riviera. If you enjoy John Le Carre, Daniel Silva and the Bourne films, you'll love MI6 spy Rose Clarke, information mercenary John Fairchild, and their world of secrecy, deception and betrayal.
My name’s Tracey Parris and I live in Belper, a lively market town near the Peak District National Park in the middle of the UK. I’ve been a market researcher and data geek, an English language teacher, a player of the flute, trumpet and Irish whistle (not at the same time), a marathon runner, a baker of fine cakes and a local councillor. I’ve been lucky enough to have travelled a lot, particularly in Asia and Europe, but I’m not done yet!
I’ve been writing since 2011. The Clarke and Fairchild series, my first self-publishing venture, is a result of my fascination with international travel and the moral ambiguities of the world of politics. I've been lucky enough to travel to many of the places featured in my stories. I had the idea for the character of John Fairchild in a moment of homesickness wandering the streets of Beijing, when I really, really wished someone was around who spoke the language!
This was an interesting story, totally different from the thrillers and mysteries that I´m used reading. It has a mystery within a mystery that is only unveiled at the end and shows lots of love for the art of Van Gogh (who I love!).It has hints of romance, a lot of action and mystery, strong friendship ties and an incessant look for the truth. It also makes it clear which mechanisms may be available to uncover the real deals in the financial market and how one can close their eyes to the money´s provenance in order to receive a fat commission. A very enjoyable reading!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Grom is a formidable foe for Clarke and Fairchild. He is a double agent (British and Russian) who has been stealing art to bolster his retirement account. The beautiful descriptions observed by the young man who is “invisible”, provides an added dimension to this whodunit. An enjoyable page turner.
The Colours is the third book in the Clarke and Fairchild series and is an engaging thriller. The characters are well depicted and realistic. The story is well written and has danger, suspense, mystery, and intrigue. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
An excellent spy story that includes not only exotic places, good action, and remarkable characters, but also manages a realism of how the real world of intelligence services operates. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, a well-crafted thriller novel. - Some good reading!
Rose and John are after a hidden Van Gogh and a Russian operative. This novel by T. M. Parris is a thrilling spy mystery. It never seems to turn the way you think it will. So much fun. I loved it.
