I read this in less than 24 hours - I literally could not put it down. It's an eye-opening, inspiring journey through the US justice system. We see time and time again that guilt, not innocence, is presumed and the burden of proof often lies on the accused, not the accuser. Ms. Kuisis, when faced with being accused of something that she didn't do, showed remarkable resiliency, bravery, and tenacity as she navigated system and situation with the cards stacked against her. She strikes an amazing balance of telling her story in a compelling, detailed way - but with an underlying narrative of faith (in whatever way one chooses) and compassion.

Truth Matters, Love Wins: A Memoir of Choosing Faith over Fear in The Face of False Accusations” showcases the horrific and unimaginable impact of false allegations on author Alexandra J. Kuisis’ life, who found herself at the mercies of a justice system that was overly plagued with arbitrariness and opacity.

Kuisis starts by narrating how the police had previously shown up at her door indicting her for running an assumed ‘unlicensed daycare.’ Unbelievably, a similar situation is happening as officers knock on her door to reveal an alleged sexual misconduct crime she has supposedly committed against a minor. As handcuffs find their way around her wrists, Kuisis can’t help but wonder why and how a child can lie in such a big act. She had been a victim of sexual assault herself at a young age and would never be part of such a horrendous act against anyone else’s child. It is heart wrenching to imagine the feeling of hurt and shock that are devouring the author throughout the night, after being booked into a horrible, filthy, and smelly jail. From her engagement and conversation with officers, it is coming out clear that the justice system has become partly a business and partly a game where only the rich deserve fairness and honor.

This is a memoir that will capably remind readers that no matter how far the truth may be, it is worth standing and fighting for. The author’s encounters offer a quick reflection on what gift freedom is, though many people take it for granted. Her touching and genuine voice will glue a reader to their seat holding their breath in optimism, as she reveals vivid occurrences that make one wonder whether they would have the courage to forgive their accusers in addition to remaining positive during their darkest hour as she did.

The emotions in the text are true and raw, and the writing style is easy to understand. This memoir is bound to stick in a reader’s mind for a long time as they reflect on the increased cases of prisoners being highlighted in the media, who have been exonerated after spending years in jail due to delayed investigations, greed in the justice system, and failure to double-check cases that may not have ever been fact-checked in the first place.

“Truth Matters, Love Wins: A Memoir of Choosing Faith over Fear in The Face of False Accusations” will inspire readers to be real and truthful because only then will they be able to turn ugly situations into life lessons. For this reason, this memoir deserves a five-star ranking by virtue of its solid substance and witty insights that will ably rail readers to reframe their own experiences with both grit and grace. Highly recommended!

This triumphant memoir is a real can’t-put-it-down page-turner.

Alex was falsely accused of crimes against a minor over whom she was, for many years, a person in a position of trust. As a result, she faced multiple felonies further aggravated by an alleged ‘pattern.’

Alex divulges her honest insights and carefully curated approach to contesting these life shattering claims with integrity, grace and an unwavering commitment to clarity and her truth: innocence.

Her perspective from inside our broken system of criminal justice is eye opening and spot on, recognizing justice is far too often a commodity only for those with privilege who can afford to buy their freedom back; and where guilt, not innocence, is presumed. The justice system as a whole she quickly sees as ‘part business, part game’ and run by people with power without enough time or care to get important things right.

Her story of bravery, love and perseverance is thought provoking and inspiring, serving as a reminder we all need to never give up, to never give in, to self-advocate, to choose to approach challenges as opportunities for growth, and to be guided by compassion always and most of all.

I thought I knew how our justice system works.
I thought I knew how friendships withstand hardship.
I thought I knew how the truth manifests itself.

It turns out I didn’t really know any of those things.

The author does an incredible job of writing about her experience in a way that is both entirely relatable and horrifyingly unbelievable.

This is an inspiring tale that brings to light some of the failings of the United States judicial system. It also serves as a guide for navigating an unimaginable betrayal with grace and dignity.

I kept repeating this very truth to myself as I read through this book. I am in the middle of a weighty court battle myself- a completely different situation but nonetheless trapped in a legal system that is designed to protect innocence but fails miserably. Master manipulators who are so well versed they have even the most seasoned lawyers and investigators hypnotized by their lies.

I was feeling defeated, angry, frustrated and discouraged by the harm inflicted carelessly by others. The corruption and lack of knowledge in the legal system is appalling. Reading Alexandra’s story showed that completely- that despite mounds of evidence you are still held victim to the lies and accusations of others- that even though you can prove your innocence you still can easily end up behind bars.

How do we continue to let this system be the one that runs the world? What needs to happen for it to take on a new form? To wake up, learn and become empowered to make choices that are truth filled and aligned with light instead of darkness?! I don’t know the answers to these questions and I may never but I do believe Alexandra did a good thing by sharing her story, because of her bravery not only in court but outside of court she is paving the way for others to learn, to grow and to have the courage to believe that truth matters and love ultimately wins in the end even if the outcome is not what you imagine.

Alexandra gives practical tips through the book on ways she maintained her peace and sanity during a very lengthy and tumultuous court case. In the end she won! Because her truth mattered and she was able to remain steadfast as she fought for what she knew to be right! She never settled- that was a big message for me! Why settle on lies when the truth remains?? Why agree with someone else’s narrative when you have solid proof that supports yours?! Proof that they clearly don’t have!!! Why stop fighting for what you know to be right?! Because darkness works to extinguish light and it only wins if YOU decide to flip the switch off. Choose light, so what’s right.. pray, stomp and chant those truth! Love love loved this book! It was easy and quick to read- hard subject matter and the injustice made my skin burn but listening to Alexandra settle into peace and seeing her team of family, friends and co workers rally beside her was inspiring and beautiful to watch!!! Grateful for Alexandra and her willingness to shine her beautiful light into the darkness for us all to see a little more.

This memoir was incredible. I couldn’t even imagine going through the ordeal Alex did. I would be speechless to learn that someone told an unimaginable story that got me arrested and had to go through the legal process and find out how corrupt and hard it is to defend myself in this legal system today. Alex is a tough woman who stuck to her principles and held her own. She did not compromise where she stood. She held her ground through this emotionally devastating situation to the end. To the end that set her free!

Accusations of abuse are difficult for a parent to hear from her child. But, what if the allegations were made up? This book tells the side of the accused, a former family friend who experienced the nightmare of a mishandled case from the start and fought to bring the truth of the situation to light by refusing to plea bargain.

The story is a quick read and sheds light on much that is broken in the criminal justice system. From police investigations to jail to trial and beyond, the author lets the reader in on the unfair treatment received by someone considered guilty until proven innocent.

This was well told but not my preferred style of writing. While obviously wanting to explain her side of the events, the author's message was also one of a greater and deeper emotional nature. I appreciated some of the ideas she shared after the conclusion of the trial in the two epilogues.

Alex is a childcare worker who is accused of molesting a child years ago, and her world is turned upside down. This memoir walks through her time with the family in question as well as what happens after she's accused, including the long drawn out court process. I know from my own experiences volunteering that our criminal justice system is a mess, so while that part was heartbreaking, it also sadly wasn't surprising to me. But there were other parts of the book that felt a little bit hard to believe, even though I would imagine they were true. Sometimes the truth makes less sense than fiction! I found myself a little put off by all the woo woo stuff (there is a big focus on a psychic and Alex's routines to "bind" people into glass jars, bury them in her garden, and stomp on them daily to help with the trial?), but this was still a really compelling read that was hard to put down.

What an incredibly moving story of perseverance, love, friendship, and the importance of truth. Alex's story is compelling, heart wrenching and heart warming. Her story exposes so many gaps in the US justice system while also showcasing the incredible love of a community of friends and family. I'm grateful for Alex sharing her story and hope that it will continue to reminder others that the truth does matter and that love will win.

This book was recommended in our neighborhood book club and we were lucky enough to meet the author! Very cool experience! A book about a false accusation during the “me too” movement and the backwards justice system that claims to be “innocent until proven guilty”, but in reality is often “guilty until proven innocent”. How much does it take to prove your innocence? How much does it cost? Do you have the support? Do you have the time, patience, faith, and strength to fight back and protect your name?

What a phenomenal story of overcoming. Falsely accused and still managed to always lead with love and positivity in the face of darkness. I could not put the book down, and bought multiple copies to keep sharing with friends.

What an eye-opening look into our legal system. I've heard too many stories just like Alex's and it's terrifying that something like this can literally happen to anyone...

Thoroughly enjoyed Alexandra's "Truth Matters" book. Very readable, could not put it down. We know from the news that these kinds of charges of criminal misbehavior are sometimes made. Yet, we truly don't know how it feels from the side of those innocent and wrongly accused, the courage it takes to face them and the tenacity it takes to win a life back. The voice is honest, touching, and strong. Thanks for writing this moving book. Inspiring.

Harrowing. Beautiful. With a heavy dash of woo-woo.

I didn’t read this book, I devoured it. Bought it at noon and finished it before 11 pm the same day. Alex’s story is riveting and sobering, hopeful and heartrending, but with a thick vein of grace running through it.

There, but for the grace of god…
