I listened to the audiobook version of this narrated by Debra Michaels and it absolutely won me over! The range of voices she pulled off were perfect for the age this book is aimed at.

The story itself is a simple, fun, well written adventure of a young girl's determination to get her granny back into magic. Granny's late husband used to be a stage magician and she was his assistant, but now with an opportunity to audition for the local magic society, she has a chance to take the spotlight herself.

I had no idea that it was based off of a true story until I finished reading! I'm definitely going to be looking into Jenny Mayers, the first black woman to be accepted into the magic cicle, a little more next.

This is a fun story which I very much enjoyed reading as an adult, and it is a book that I would choose to read to children, or encourage them to read for themselves. The characters are well described and the pictures are great. It begins the story of Granny Jinks, and it is clear at the end of the story that there will be more. I see there is another book in the series, so that will be good to find out what happens next. I really liked the instructions at the end about how to do the magic tricks mentioned in the story.
Note: I received a digital review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

This was a brilliant quick whimsical read that featured amazing characters, brilliant writing and a simple but fun plot. It followed Jada as she convinced her marvellous granny to join a secret magic society. This was a very enjoyable read that I would recommend. I will definitely read the next installment!

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc!

A brilliant read and start to a series that will be popular all over. I particularly loved the relationship between grandparent and grandchild. This is going straight into my classroom tomorrow.
