I liked this book. Cute book to read to youngsters or for beginning readers. Silly book, filled with the experiences of a hungry Crocodile and how he goes about trying to find something to eat - loved his experience in the community garden and his dislike of lettuce! After wandering about he eventually returns to a lake made of his tears and figures out the best thing he could do to get dinner. Again, cute and silly. Illustrations go well with the action in the book. Good effort all the way around!

Oh, but Crocodile is hungry. (No. Make that HUNGRY!)

What, (or maybe Who) will he eat? Find out in this hilarious tale of a search for the perfect snack.

With wonderful and funny illustrations by John Martz.

Coming in February. Thanks, NetGalley and Tundra, for the chance to see that Crocodile gets properly fed.

This picture book legitimately made me lol - Crocodile's voice is pitch perfect. Crocodile hungry, but what to eat? Not canned ham or beef jerky. Crocodile tries everything he can think of to find something to eat until he cries enough crocodile tears to form a pond ... and flamingos arrive. Pink, marshmallowy flamingos. So what will a hungry crocodile do?

Kids will laugh at crocodile's attempts to find food in un-crocodile ways that might feel familiar to them. And the voice - part caveman, part child - will make for amazing read-alouds.

Crocodile is hungry and searches for something to eat.

During Crocodile’s search for food, he repeatedly and unintentionally frightens everyone, which is played for laughs. There is a funny twist at the end.

The text is written almost entirely in broken English. Perhaps this is intended to imitate the way very small children speak, or perhaps this is intended to be humorous. This, however, does a disservice to young readers who are working to master language fluency. The occasional sentence fragment is fine, but the majority of the text is sentence fragments. From an early literacy perspective, it’s better to have either simple complete sentences or single words.

I have read this for several outreach visits now, for several storytimes, and for every single one, it has been a HUGE hit. I love this book. I love reading this book in Crocodile's voice. The first time I read it, I couldn't read it because I was laughing so hard that I cried. I had to practice...many many times before I stopped laughing.

The kids love this book. They think that Crocodile is going to do something really bad, like eat a person, or eat a flamingo. I ask them, right before the end, what they think will happen. We talk about the text and visual cues before I turn the last page and we all find out what Crocodile does eat.

Crocodile visits the grocery store, the farmer's market, and a community garden (all of these make for good discussion points). Crocodile also talks about all sorts of food (I had to look up "linguiça" as that was a new food for me!). Crocodile is in turn, silly, hungry, angry, sad, and resourceful. Not bad for a Crocodile!

Crocodile Hungry is a funny little story about a crocodile who is hungry (dun dun dun) and does know not what to eat because everyone is scared of him. There is nothing really to learn from this story which made me lower my rating, it's purely to be enjoyed with your children. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. I know my daughter would probably find this story very funny!

We've all been as hungry (dare I say HANGRY) as Crocodile! In this hilarious, laugh out loud funny picture book by Eija Sumner and John Martz, Crocodile searches the farmers market, grocery store and community garden for a bite (get it!) to eat. Unfortunately, people aren’t too fond of Crocodile, who then has to find another place that will accept him and his hungry (almost hangry) belly. When a glamour flock of flamingos relax in the pond, Crocodile has his appetite fixed. BUT what exactly will he eat??!!

Using crafty words, Eija Sumner has created a picture book that’s all about how looks can be deceiving. Not everything is as it appears. Crocodiles, just like people, have many different tastes!

Poor Crocodile. He's so hungry, but there's no good, accessible food in sight. Everybody runs from Crocodile too...why can't he just saunter into the grocery store, or stroll around the farmer's market without herds of people screaming?!? It's a rough day for Crocodile until a flock of pink and marshmallow-y flamingos shows up. Now Crocodile knows exactly what he's going to eat.

CROCODILE HUNGRY is a great read-aloud (maybe right before lunchtime!) for fans of quirky, silly stories with bright, fun illustrations. Kids will love following Crocodile's adventures, while adults will recognize the emotional roller coaster of someone's who very, very HANGRY!

Oh, he’s hungry! Crocodile knows what he wants but everyone runs when he gets close. This book is funny but I think the illustrations help it achieve that. The illustrations are funny and I like how they pop out of the page at the appropriate times.

When crocodile opens the refrigerator, he starts to chuck out everything he sees. Why? Because everything in there is too difficult to eat. Ah, he knows what he wants, it’s at the Farmers Market. Yikes, it’s a crocodile!! Everyone at the Farmers Market runs and all the food is ruined. Now what? Ah, the store. Yup, you can probably guess what happens when crocodile tries to go the store. Where else can crocodile get some good food? He keeps trying but he can’t find any good food and he’s getting angry. Crocodile needs some good food soon, how can he do that?!? The ending is funny and kids will laugh when crocodile finally gets something for his stomach. 5 stars

The illustrations are fun. The story is fun. The execution is not fun. The grammar is atrocious. I realize it is supposed to be written from the crocodile's pov but just because it is a book for children does not mean it needs to be written poorly. Children build vocabulary by hearing and interacting with vocabulary. This book does not do them any service. A book for children does not need to be literarily simplistic. I loved 'I Want My Hat Back.' These two books do not compare.

A delightfully illustrated tale with side-splitting humor will bring on the belly laughs as children are taken on a rollicking adventure with Crocodile when he goes on the hunt for food.

Crocodile sets out to find something to eat but finds his plans thwarted at every turn. Getting ever more hungry, he is also getting more and more frustrated. This one will make kids giggle. They will understand the emotions that Crocodile is feeling and relate to him. It is great to use books to teach about social emotional learning topics such as emotions. Children will relate to his breakdown and crying, but it is a valuable lesson that sometimes all we need to fix a bad mood is a snack. especially some pizza.

The only complaint I had was the over simplified text, which makes it difficult to use in a classroom setting because the sentences are not proper English to show kids. It is easy for emergent readers but also could potentially teach them that verbs aren't needed in sentences. I see the purpose behind it, trying to be silly, but it sounded more caveman than cute. There was repetition of words which makes it easier for children to read sight words they recognize. The art was adorable and could even be used as just a picture book for babies to enjoy without knowing the words.

This was a book of lots of laughs and silly moments, but also some valuable life lessons. A great read for parents and teachers.

I love this book and my prediction is that kids will love it too. It's a perfect read aloud and I guarantee giggles will ensue. It's fun surprise ending is perfect!

Crocodile is hungry and he goes through his options as what he can eat. He sorts through his fridge and what does he find?

"Canned ham? Too hard to open.
Beef jerky? Gets stuck in teeth.
Eggs? Bite shell, get toothache."

Oh my... he must expand his menu and off he goes to the farmer's market, the local grocery story and seeks out the community garden but ... nope... he comes up with nothing!

He's hungry, he's famished, he is wasting away and starts crying crocodile tears because of his misery. Crocodile wants food NOW!

His distress drives him to a pond where a flock of pink flamingos fly in for a visit. Will Crocodile finally get the tasty meal he has been longing for? Mmmmmmm...what's for his dinner I wonder!

The colourful illustrations by cartoonist John Martz are excellent. They invite the reader right into the storyline and are full of expression and great fun. This is Eija Sumner's debut book and I hope we hear a whole lot more from her as we move into the future. I highly, highly recommend this book. Great job!

In short, simple sentences, this story tells the tale of a crocodile looking for something delicious to eat. Sometimes you want something like a jelly-donut, but not a jelly-donut. It’s something undefined, but when you find it, you will KNOW it’s just the right thing!

Aside from saying that biting eggs will give a crocodile a toothache, which is not only misinformation—they love eggs and have no trouble with them—it’s ridiculous, the book is entertaining, creative, and I laughed out loud.

This is the kind of story that takes you through the emotions of crocodile; because you understand exactly how he feels. And while you’re laughing at his adventures, you may think of people you know…

I highly recommend this book for anyone who eats food, young and old. I don’t know how it can be read without at least smiling inside. We can all certainly use some of that!

5/5 Stars

Note to publisher: I suggest changing the “egg” line to something like “Eggs? Bite shell. Shell not tasty.”
Crocodiles certainly eat crunchier things than egg shells!

Crocodile hungry. Thwarted at several opportunities to remedy this, Crocodile approaches hangry and melts down. This is so cute, and so funny! The illustrations are detailed, lively, and full of humor. This is going to be such a hit at circle time for Pre-K!

For some reason, Crocodile leaves verbs out of some of his sentences (e.g. "Crocodile not see"). I couldn't figure out a purpose for this--it doesn't seem to be a vernacular and he doesn't do it all the time. It doesn't impede understanding of the text, but Crocodile randomly sounds like Tonto.

This will be a reliable favorite for Pre-K and early elementary kids and would be a great addition to school, classroom, and community libraries!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Crocodile is hungry. But when he goes to the farmer’s market, the grocery store, or the community garden, everyone runs away and he can’t get any food. He cries so much that he creates a pond of tears, which attracts other animals. He finally figures out how to solve his hunger!

This was such a cute picture book. The crocodile is used to eating human food, but he can’t get any from people because they’re scared of him. The irony was that he was looking for the human food, not to eat the humans like they thought.

The ending was cute too. It seems like the crocodile was going to eat the animals that were attracted to his pond, but he actually had another idea at the end. This twist ending will be entertaining to young readers!

Crocodile Hungry is an adorable picture book!

This is such a cute children's book. The vibrant illustrations are beautiful and captivating, perfect for holding little ones attention during story time. I this this books offers a great opportunity for the reader to play with animated voices and gestures when reading out loud which is always a crowd pleaser.

The hungry crocodile goes looking for something to eat at the farmers market, the grocery store and the community garden but everywhere he goes it ends up chaotic with people screaming. Eventually he borders on hangry and starts crying ... crying so much he creates a lake, in the verge of giving up he finds the solution to his problem and is once again a happy crocodile.

Cute story by Eija Sumner about a hungry crocodile who is not enticed by any food in the refrigerator. Traipsing about town he tumbles through a farmer's market, a grocery store and a community garden, scaring everyone and liking nothing. Hungry doesn't describe crocodile any more, he's HANGRY! Crying crocodile tears, he creates a lake that brings along pink birds with long legs.
Readable and fun this story will create dialogue amongst children and can even engage some writing about what croc could have eaten along the way and what foods they may have eaten or would want to eat.

Adorable tale of a crocodile who needs a meal. Evocative of wonderful books by Jon Klassen, this crocodile experiments with the farmer's market, the grocery store and a community garden before he is inspired to find the perfect meal. There is just enough suspense and uncertainty in this book to get young readers suspicious and a tiny bit apprehensive as to what (or who) will be the crocodile's meal. Even though this is largely an entertaining story, one could justify it with a wonderful extension activity to discuss food chains/webs and what crocodiles actually eat. Also one could throw in fiction/nonfiction discussions: do crocodiles actually shop at supermarkets? (we can hope not!)

Hilarious text by Eija Sumner paired with adorable illustrations by John Martz will keep readers glued to the story. A fun, light read full of surprise twists!

Crocodile is hungry!! Or worse...HANGRY!

This is a super fun, laugh-out-loud, cheeky story that kids will want to read again and again! Crocodile wants to eat, but not only is there nothing in the fridge that appeals to him, but there's also nothing at the farmer's market, the supermarket, or the community garden. It's only when Crocodile finally takes things into his own hands that his rumbly tummy gets satiated...and not with what you'd expect.

Highly recommend this definite crowd pleaser...but don't read it with an empty stomach, or you're going to get the nibbles, too!

There is no possible way that you will not fall in love with crocodile. He's hungry and just wants something decent to eat. But when he tries to find something to munch on at the farmer's market and the grocery store and the community garden, people somehow get the wrong idea. Plus, nothing sounds good. What will crocodile eat? Will he have to settle for the pink marshmallow birds on sticks? The spare text and hilarious illustration details work together perfectly. The page turns are filled with tension, and the surprise ending is oh so satisfying!!

Crocodile is hungry, but everything in the fridge is too hard to eat, so it goes out searching. Can you imagine a crocodile showing up at your farmer's market or grocery store? After crying loads of crocodile tears to create a pond with fish, snakes, turtles, possums, and flamingos. A nice twist ending, so no circle of life situation! While it's a funny story with perfect emotional eyes on Crocodile, I'm not a fan of picture books that don't use full sentences, unless that's how the character is supposed to be talking. Maybe Crocodile is talking in 3rd person?

This book is HILARIOUS from tone to text. It is reminiscent -- in the very best of ways -- of Graham Roumieu's 'Bigfoot' series. Crocodile is lovably ignorant of his fearsome status as he trundles around looking for lunch. After running through (almost) every possible option, there's only one thing left to do...

The suspense of Crocodile's quest for food is gentle and fun! That, along with the SUPER funny in-character narration, would make this an A+ read-aloud! And

Little crocodile was very hungry, and looking for food to eat. Everyone he goes, people are running away from him screaming. He doesn't want to eat lettuce, or stuff that's hard to open or will get stuck in his teeth. What should he do? Should he eat the pretty pink flamingos he encounters? .............

Very cute drawing and story.
