The scream of the crop…
Harvest time in Honeytree is the sweetest season. Leona is up to her elbows in eggs and apples at Lucky Cluck Farm. Not only is her fresh cider business ripening, it’s a rare week that she doesn’t sell out of eggs at the farmer’s market, thanks to her long list of regulars.

But when a dead body crops up during a routine delivery at the pumpkin patch, Leona can’t help wondering why the murdered man has a carton of her Grade-As in his possession.

The new sheriff in town is wondering, too, which doesn’t squash local rumors that Leona herself had something to do with the killing.

To gourd her own innocence—and protect her loyal customers from undue suspicion—Leona must navigate a corn maze of clues to solve the crime. But can she carve out a solution before the killer reaps another victim?

If you like a taste of farm life in your cozy mysteries, you’ll love A Farm & Alarm, the sixth book in the Clucks and Clues series. It’s “chick” full of friendship, chicken humor, and murder. Of course, there is no gore, swears, or other yucky stuff. Just good, clean crime in idyllic, small-town Oregon.

This book is 6. It is Halloween Time. And the Haunted Houses is ready to go again. When Leona went to the man Peter that owned The patch that the Haunted House is on. She was giving some cider for drinks to have at the Haunted House. Well when she got there a scarecrow was holding some eggs in his hand( Leona eggs from her farm) but when she got closer she found that it was a man. Then suddenly Peter appeared. ( the owner) the cops were right behind. When they were investigating. An older Thora next door neighbor went there and said she saw the whole murder. Those said it was Bigfoot that killed him. The man Gordon was Peter's ex employee. Ruth ( Leona best friend) and Leona and Chelsea ( Eli Leona's boyfriend niece) and Haven ( the new sheriff Doug in town) were running against Their significant others in Halloween Contest Drunkin Pumkin. They were out to win since Ruth told all her friends that her boyfriend Gary would let her be on his team. So she got angry and asked all the wives or girlfriends of the opposite team Ruthless is what the men' s team were called ( Ruth was very mad about the name) Haley started becoming good friends with them. At first Haley did not get along with Leona cause she went rude after telling Haley she could not have eggs cause she had clients that took up them all. But Leona apologized and all was forgivin. There were a kinda big animal stealing food that Eli ( Leona boyfriend from when they were young too lives right by her) left for Leona on her front steps. Eli was experimenting on some sweets concotion. So Eli decided to put up cameras. It was some rats and the other was a Big dog. Then Leona got upset and were scared for her livestock her beloved chickens. So when Eli wanted to capture the dog and keep him for his self Leona got mad. But anyways this is great series too.

The town is hopping as it is time for Halloween, apple harvest time and the pumpkin patch. While making a routine delivery at the pumpkin patch, Leona stumbles upon a dead body. Who is it, who killed him and why? The new sheriff in town comes to investigates and meets with Leona. Did she have something to do with the murder since it was her eggs found on the dead body? Additionally, the girls meet Haven, the sheriff’s wife, and invite her to join them as they decide to team up and go against the guys competing at the Drunken Punkin. We are also introduced to new a pet, Cider, who becomes friends with Boots. As their relationship progresses, Leona and Eli decide to take it to the next level.

This is such an enjoyable series! There are so many twists and turns and this community could be any community in your neighborhood. It was well-written and the characters are captivating. The mystery pulls you in and keeps you guessing. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend it.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Harvest season in Honeytree means Leona has her hands full with apples and eggs. In spite of Sheriff Eli’s retirement, the couple seem to have less time to spend together. When Eli stops leaving his customary little gifts on her porch in the morning, Leona worries that there romance is cooling off faster than the weather. Leona’s best friend, Ruth, also has friction in her relationship with Gary and the newlyweds, Eli’s niece and her husband, aren’t making much progress in building their new home. When Leona attempts to deliver the Halloween cider to the pumpkin patch, she stumbles, across a body and the future of the festival is uncertain. Meanwhile with the annual Drunken Punkin relay contest planned. a girls team against guys team situation develops and the feminine side dreams up some sneaky methods of leveling the playing field. Eventually, the two teams unite with plans to reveal a killer and there is a scary race through the haunted house attempting to unmask him or her. Will the murderer be caught and who will win the race? I have followed the residents,of Honeytree from the beginning and always look forward to their adventures. I enjoy the chickens and their antics, and the small, town atmosphere, friendships and mysteries. How I wish I could attend the festival, watch the Drunken Punkin mayhem, sample some cider and visit the awesome haunted house! This is the perfect cozy to enjoy with a pumpkin latte as the weather cools and the holidays approach. I highly recommend the entire Lucky Cluck Farm series and eagerly.await the next installment.

This is a fun series and book #6 is a treat! It's Halloween at Honeytree and the town is looking forward to the Drunkin' Punkin race. When Leona goes on her routine delivery of cider to the Pumpkin Patch, she discovers a dead body holding her eggs, Gordon Malone who worked for Peter the owner of the Pumpkin Patch. Wow, what next? The new sheriff comes to investigate and is asked to join and is suspicious of Leona whose eggs the body is holding. When she and Eli, retired sheriff who really likes Leona and has his farm next to hers, start asking around, they question the very eccentric old lady neighbor, Thora, who is constantly complaining to the police about the Pumpkin Patch and its owner. She swears she saw Bigfoot kill the patch worker. With lots of twists and turns and a man v woman competition with Leona, the sheriff's wife, her best friend Ruth and her neighbor, Eli's daughter-in-law, Chelsea. I love that Leona has a house chicken pet! Murder or no murder, the Drunkin' Punkn' competition and fun must go on. But who killed Gordon? Who will win the male v female competition in the Drunkin' Punkin'? Why did someone kill Gordon and is Thora a reliable witness to the murder when she is sure it is Bigfoot? Will the murderer show up at the competition? Who will be next? There are so many different threads to this story line that it is fun to try and figure out the puzzle. I love the characters and really love the eccentric Thora and hopes she sticks around in future books! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

I have enjoyed all six of the books in A Clucks and Clues Cozy Mystery series. Leona Davis is delivering apple cide to the pumpkin patch owner, Peter Grimm, when she discovers a dead body holding a dozen of her eggs. Now the festival is in question along with the Drunken Punkin contest. Grimm's next door neighbor, Thora Shorts, claims she saw Bigfoot kill Gordon Malone. Ruth Chapman, Leona's best friend is upset because her boyfriend, Gary Edison, didn't include her on his Drunken Punkin squad that is named "Team Ruthless", which also includes Leona's boyfriend, retired sheriff, Eli Ramirez, Eli's nephew, Aaron Alpin and the current sheriff, Doug Skinner. She talks Leona into forming a squad "Team Oz" which includes Leona, Ruth, Haven - Sheriff Skinner's wife, and Eli's niece, Chelsea.
The girls want to beat the guys but wind up all working together to find the killer.
I have enjoyed watching these characters evolve and the addition of Thora Shorts and Eli's new dog, Cider.
I cannot wait for #7 in the series. I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.

New Sheriff In Town

Lorena, Eli, Boots & new kid in town Cider deal with a Sasquatch siting in this newest episode. Just before the annual Drunken Punkin Halloween celebration at Peter Grimm’s pumpkin farm Lorena finds a young worker stabbed with a pumpkin carver. An elderly neighbor known as a busybody reports that she saw him murdered by Sasquatch. The humorous investigation finally ends with a bit of a surprise perpetrator. New Sheriff Doug Skinner is still working to become accepted as Eli’s successor & his wife Haven is feeling like she is somewhat discriminated against. It takes Lorena, Ruth, Chelsea & some others too welcome her into the flock. Both Lorena & Ruth misinterpret some actions on Eli & Gary’s part which leads to some misery & hard feelings for both of them. This series is full of heart warning relationships & situations that have soul searching on the characters to work issues out. I’ll never tire of reading the Lucky Cluck adventures.

Halloween fun and a murder

Leona owns a chicken coop where her chickens lay the eggs for her business. One of them lives in her house and is her best friend, well, her best animal friend. This is just one of the interesting twists this story has compared to most small town mysteries…not a cat or dog, but a chicken. It is spooky season and a murder occurs at the local farm that really ramps up for the season: pumpkin patch and carving, pumpkin toss, haunted house, all things Halloween. Leona’s next door neighbor and boyfriend raises grapes. The story gives us lots of characters to enjoy and Leona and Eli (next door neighbor boyfriend), the former sheriff, discover too many suspects and clues to the mystery. Until the final Halloween extravaganza, the killer is unknown, as Is the motive. But at last, Eli gets to celebrate his November birthday with his love and both are becoming more in tune.

As I read through the night and completed this story I thought ‘wow, what a delightful murder mystery’ and Then feeling a little guilty I thought ‘well, except for the poor victim (that isn’t delightful, although I must say the manner of murder was quite clever and gross at the same time.) I love the characters - the way they are described and how they interact is so warm and makes me feel good. With how the author describes the characters I get a good feel of their personality’s and day to day like. I love hearing about what antics Boots is up to and now there is a dog added to the mix which adds to the fun! I find myself wanting a chicken as a pet but I live in the city so That won’t work…….but I do have a dog!

This was a wonderful Halloween read with Leona and her friends. There's a farm that has a corn maze and haunted house and Leona discovers a body on the porch with a pumpkin on his head in one of her egg carton hand. She and her friends have to team up and go through different obstacles courses in order to obtain clues to solve this murder. This book made me think and try to puzzle the mystery out before the end. I love when I get the ending right but unfortunately this time I goofed which made it all that much more fun. Looking forward to the next book as it's always fun to go on the adventures with Leona and Eli and life on the farm.

The egg lady per say was the one who had so many customers wanting her eggs she sometimes had to refuse some people eggs for she was sold out so fast. She also made cider out of alot of her apples. She had a neighbor man who had a liking for her and he would leave goodies on her porch almost every morning. Till one day there were none there and a lady friend said she had see Bigfoot around. Then a man is found by her with some of the egg ladies egg in a nearby pumpkin patch. When the town has their Halloween party everyone is trying to figure out killed this man and was there really a big foot in their town.

While delivering apple cider to Peter Grimm, Leona finds a dead body. At first she thought it was just a decoration for the scary barn Peter was fixing for the festival, but who would put a dozen of her eggs on top of a decoration? Especially HER eggs? But that isn't the only mystery going on here. There is a Bigfoot running around, and Leona and her friends are planning to win against their men at the Drunkin Pumpkin to teach them a lesson. But who teaches who? A great story to add to this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is the 6th in the series. The main character is Leona. Leona owns a chicken and apple farm. She is almost done with the apple cider for the year and about to get back to being lazy just taking care of her laying chickens. When she takes her last batch of cider to the Drunken Punkin site, she ends up finding a dead body. That starts the search for the killer and for her and her friends to come up with a team for the Drunken Punkin relay. They keep asking questions but the answers just mean more questions. Can they figure this out in time?

Harvest time on the farm is always a very busy time. That is especially true for Leona, between her apples, eggs and apple cider she is up to her ears in work. Murder does not fit into her schedule, but murder is never convenient. Follow Leona and Eli as they chase down the clues and find the killer. You will enjoy many laughs along the way as they stumble their way through the mystery. Highly recommend this story and all of Hillary Avis’s books. They are fun and entertaining.

A Farm & Alarm is an entertaining, small town, Halloween, cozy mystery. Leona makes a gruesome discovery during what should have been a routine delivery to the pumpkin patch. I love this town, Leona, Eli, Ruth and the rest of the regulars. Will the new sheriff in town accept Leona's help? You will have to read this well written book to discover how the solution plays out amid the pumpkin patch, the corn maize and the haunted house. I could not put it down!

This one was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed the introduction of new characters as well as the further development of our returning characters. That said, this one, like book 5, had the "big reveal" based on the Agatha Cristie approach, i.e. withholding details in the writing that are known to the characters, so while you could suss it out in this one, it was less satisfying because of that approach. Two more books in this series and I am still looking forward to them, so let's see where it goes.

I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. What a great Halloween story, who knew there were that many furry costumes out there? Leona unexpectedly makes two new friends and her relationship with Eli takes a turn. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next book.

I love this series.  The main characters might be a bit older (mid fifties) but have the same energy as younger ones, only wiser!  I love the murder mystery, the background of the characters and the way the series is going.  Leona and her friends are so full of life and always ready to jump in when a mystery comes their way.

Great read.

I love that these books are an easy read and clean. The implications are there for you to fill in the blanks, without ruining the story. Good clean fun and easy to see yourself in each book. I really like that the main characters are older and of my generation, so they are really easy to relate to.

Haunted House

Down on the pumpkin farm where the cider goes, there is a haunted house with a corn maze that grows. There are pumpkins to be carved and thrown. The scariest of all is the Bigfoot sightings. Enjoy this murder mystery with the fun intended and maybe a little competition involved too.

Sheer joy

Just finished reading book, 4, 5, and 6, and as always, Hillary Avis does not disappoint. Having a window into Leona's life through murders, mayhem, amazing little Boots, extended family, great friends, and new wonderful characters, has done amazing things to uplift me from my down mood. Truly worth reading. Mahalo for writing these lovely stories.

I will be reading more of this series in the future. I love seasonal cozies, so I decided to give this one a try. I really loved everything about this book (the characters, the writing style, the dialogue, etc.). My only complaint would be that there were a few points where I felt it dragged a little regarding the details of the "drunken punkin'" but, otherwise, I found it very enjoyable.

Another enjoyable read

A well written and entertaining cosy mystery set in a small country town. A murder in a pumpkin patch with the only witness being an old lady who swears it was bigfoot. One of the mysteries Leona has to solve, including who is stealing the gifts Eli leaves on her porch for her. A fun and quick read.

As usual, I absolutely loved reading this book. It looks like Leona and Eli are going to take their relationship to the next level. But before they do that it's the guys against their gals in the Dunken Punken contest. You want to know if either team won, your going to have to read the book.
