Nevermore: The Haunted Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe

NEVERMORE THE HAUNTED LIFE AND MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF EDGAR ALLAN POE
There are very few among those with a love for the supernatural who don't also have a passion for Edgar Allan Poe. Poe wasn't simply a melancholy author who wrote about premature burials, sinister black cats, and talking ravens; he was much more. If you've ever read a modern mystery or horror novel, you can thank Poe. If you've ever read a book like this one - or any of author Troy Taylor's books of true stories of the unexplained -- the influence of Poe is undeniable. Poe invented the modern mystery story, mostly invented science fiction, and was the first writer to take the horror stories of the Gothic era and set them in modern times, starting a trend that continues today.
With a lifelong interest in Poe, Troy Taylor decided to take his own look at the mysterious and macabre writer, his tragic life, unexplained death, and lingering hauntings. He invites readers along to delve into the strange and bizarre world of Edgar Allan Poe, from his early life to his tragic marriage, his insane grief, his dramatically failed career, his links to an unsolved murder, and the mystery of what happened to the writer during five days before his unexplained death. Even more than a century and a half later, no one knows what happened to Poe before he was found delirious on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland - or what killed him. Why did he disappear and then show up in an incoherent state, wearing another man's clothes? Where did he go when he vanished and who was the mysterious "Reynolds" that Poe whispered about in his dying breath? And, perhaps strangest of all, does he haunt the mysterious graveyard where his body is buried? And who is the stranger who appears at Poe's grave each year on the anniversary of his birth, leaving roses and cryptic messages behind?
This is a tale of mystery and madness, real-life horror and the supernatural, and it's a book that you don't want to miss!

More Interesting Poe Info

I found this a quick & interesting book. I'll read just
about anything concerning Edgar Allan Poe's life & death since Poe has been one of my favorite authors since my school years.

The author presents general info about Poe's life events & then several different theories about his death & what may have happened for Poe to die the mysterious way he died. It seems Poe couldn't have planned his death to be any weirder than it was nor any more perplexing. Who knows, maybe Poe did plan it in this fashion to be his last mystery, to still be talked about to this day. (I really don't believe that, btw!)

Try this book out. It's not an in-depth study & one that would capture the attention of younger readers yet can be enjoyed by anyone interested in Poe.

A tragic and mysterious life

It is heartbreaking to read about time after time when one of the world's greatest authors was so close to getting his life together only to fall apart again. Of course, this is ultimately the way that his life would end with his untimely and mysterious death as well. While you are cheering for him and hope that he could have found happiness, would he have been the Poe that we all know and remember so fondly if he had? It makes you wonder.

Troy does a great job of breaking down Poe's life, his death, and his reported afterlife in this book. I had always heard the story of his death being due to the political "cooping" that led him to be drugged and forced to vote. Troy explained s why this is not as likely as many once thought and provides other theories as well as one of his own that seems quite plausible. I love to hear how he does this when listening to the American Hauntings podcast and it is great to see that he is true to form in his writing as well.

As a fan of Poe, I thought that I would have loved this book. I have read several books by this author over the years and haven't been disappointed. However, I felt the story was dry and even bored me in some areas, which made it take me much longer to finish. I wanted to DNF it, but was determined to finish. That said, I did enjoy the latter half of the book with all the theories of his death, which bumped my rating to 2 stars.

I quite liked it. We read many of Pie’s works in school but I don’t know that I ever knew anything of worth about his life. Troy writes in a style that engages the reader so this was a quick read for me !

It was good

It gave a lot of insight on Poe and his life leading up to his death and the ideas behind the theories of how he died.

Self published book. Lots of typo errors that bugged me. Really no new info on Edgar Allan Poe's life.

A quick rehashing of the life and death of Edgar Allan Poe. Missing information, bad editing, and a few contradictions is the reason for the one star rating.
