Root Rot Academy: The Complete Trilogy includes all three full-length books from the Root Rot Trilogy + a short follow-up for those who love reconnecting with the main characters after The End. The trilogy is a supernatural academy Why-Choose romance centered around the professors and staff. It contains mature subject matter that might not be suitable for all readers.
The warlock who murdered my parents is teaching at Root Rot Academy—and now, so am I.
Once upon a time, a monster killed my parents and left me to burn in my bed.
Twenty-six years later, I finally found him.
We might have both become professors, but we are nothing alike. Benedict Hammond is a liar, a murderer, a psychopath.
And I’m the witch here to punish him.
I renamed myself after the fury Alecto years ago, and now it’s time to taste her madness—to exact my righteous revenge.
You know…
Once I figure out what that is, exactly.
But it’s coming, and nothing is going to distract me.
Not my gorgeous vampire roommate, the complete package and totally off-limits.
Not the mysterious head librarian, a fae as intriguing as he is infuriating.
Oh, and definitely not my powerful warlock headmaster who makes me feel so deliciously small.
I’m here to collect a life debt—that’s all that matters.
Rhea Watson is a Canadian paranormal romance author who writes lone wolves and found family, fated mates and forever love. She dreams about living in a cottage in the woods that would make any fairytale witch jealous, and wishes every day was Halloween.
In her spare time, Rhea babies her herb garden, watches hilariously bad horror movies with her own hero, bows to her cat's every whim, and flies through Netflix shows like it's her day job.
A #WhyChoose Romance Rhea Watson style! I read this trilogy piece by unputdownable piece, and I loved every bit of it. Even when one character or the other drove me a little crazy, I loved it. And it's the kind of story I can come back to every now and then, so to have it all in one book is perfect. This world and its characters are intriguing and fun - especially that snarky fae who may or may not be my favorite. There's also a fair amount of danger and a continuing thread through each book to keep us on our toes. The whole thing is just loads of fun and a great way to escape this crazy stressful world we find ourselves in.
This is a fantastic boxset that’s full of drama, intrigue, mystery and magic. A superb reverse harem with some hot and sexy men and a kick ass female mc who all have amazing chemistry and some hot and steamy scenes and a storyline that will grab you hook, line and sinker and you will not be able to put it down!
Term One: 4 stars Term Two: 5 stars Term Three: 5 stars
Such an intriguing premise for a story – troublesome teenaged witches, warlocks, shifters and vampires sent to a remote Scottish supernatural academy to sort out their misguided tendencies. I enjoyed Alecto’s often feisty and complex character and the unique relationships she forged with Bjorn, Gavriel and Jack. I loved the resulting dynamic as each of the men gradually came to terms with their feelings for Alecto, while also accepting her need for each of the other two men as well. While Alecto was exceptionally skilled as an educator, she was far less equipped for the secret mission that had actually brought her to Root Rot Academy. I loved that she eventually found her inner strength and embraced the shieldmaiden and fury that her men had likened her to from the very beginning.
The story is well written and told through the POV’s of the four characters. There’s drama and suspense plus magic, danger, violence, trauma, tragedy and a few surprising revelations. There’s also some humour along with several explicit M/F scenes and a few steamy ménage encounters – some with elements of BDSM, but no M/M action.
I enjoyed the bonus immensely – a peak at their lives, ten years down the road. I’m looking forward to future academy stories set within this world. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this collection and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed this trilogy more than expected. There were some parts that irked me.
Alecto is undercover, wanting to seek justice for her parents who were murdered when she was a toddler, in a reform school for wayward teenage supernaturals. Not capable of killing in cold blood, she's got basically zero plan for how she's going to confront the murderer (who is himself using a fake identity) or how she'll get that justice. That lack of direction was frustrating, and I think it combined with Alecto's more self-destructive (I guess?) tendencies to irk me. The fact that she's happy to get wildly drunk and have what she thinks will be a one-night stand with the head librarian (Gavriel, a fae with his own issues) feels really out of line with someone allegedly hyperfocused on avenging her parents. It was just a weird mishmash for me, but ultimately, it was a fun ride.
We did get answers to, I think, all the questions we had by the end of the trilogy, which I appreciated.
I enjoy Gavriel and Bjorn and their journeys over the book. Jack was a bit harder to enjoy because while I appreciated a lot about the way their relationship was presented, there were some aspects of his attitude that irked me early on. By the end of the trilogy, I was much happier.
I also liked that there was at least a little wrapup of what the future held for our quartet beyond the end of the trilogy.
This trilogy is a hilarious and sexy reverse harem romance. The characters are entertaining personalities each with their own unique characteristics. A traumatized witch on her quest for vengeance, a reformed Viking vampire with a taste for reality t.v., a disgraced warrior fae dealing with the devil and a closeted Dom struggling to make a difference. Lust leads to love in this slow burn polyamory romance, amidst a devious battle of good vs. evil. It's like an x-rated version of Hogwarts. A must read for fans of... Supernatural Romance, Supernatural Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, Age-Gap Romance, BDSM and Erotic Romance and Dark Romance stories.
Trigger Warnings: Acts of Child Abuse, Drug and Alcohol use, Manipulation, Foul Language, Sex, Rough Sex, Pain Kink Sex, BDSM Scene Play, Kidnapping, Torture, Sexual Assaults, Attempted Rape and Murder (Death, Decapitation and Detailed Descriptions of Slaughter.).
The Root Rot trilogy has honestly become one of my favourite series of 2020, if not one of my favourites of all RH series I've ever read. It's just so incredibly well-written. The characters jump off the page at you - you love them, you hate them, you understand their motivations, you bite your knuckles at their stubbornness.
As well as the amazing storylines, seriously sexy men and strong main character (whose wardrobe I would love to raid!), the editing in this trilogy is tight. Like, really well done. I appreciate the heck out of an intriguing, fun, beautifully edited book and this one is bang on the money.
The bonus wrap up at the end is the icing on a fabulous cake. I can't wait to reread this!
Honestly the first term book was pointless. The whole first term didn’t even set the scene, it bored the pants of me with Alecto whining and crying throughout the first term. The love interests if I could call them that, were just unlikeable characters and honestly by the time I got to the second term, I couldn’t care less to know if Alecto got anywhere with them. Just bloody boring to be honest. I forced myself to start term 3, and I am too bored with the story to carry on. I actually didn’t like Alecto enough to care about what happened next. The three heroes were by this point nicknamed dullard stick up his arse, crappy douchebag fae and toothless ageing vampire.
I thought I was going to read about a strong woman who is going to get revenge for the murder of her parents. Instead I got a love letter for a sadistic Master. A man obsessed with bringing pain to a woman who has had a devastating life.
I could not finish the book after a guy thought it was appropriate to spank (painfully since he has already admitted to liking to give and not take pain) the MC when she was just trying to get through the anniversary of her parents murder. A man who thought it was a great time to make her a submissive. Something she had not even tried before. It was clear that it was just for him.
I liked all the guys and, of course, our resident fury Alecto ❤️ I thought it was such a fun premise that she wanted to get justice for her parents' murder, but knew she couldn't actually pull the trigger! So she got the job working with him, not knowing where she was going to go from there 😂 I feel ya, girl! Just slightly under prepared LOL
I do feel like the plot dragged in some of the chapters - mainly those from Jack's POV, he just wasn't the most exciting of characters 🫣 but I also read all three books at once, so maybe my brain just needed a break 🤷🏼♀️
Overall good read! I'm always down for a dark academia series 💜💜
This book caught my eye at first because it was about the adults at the academy. I have a hard time with the teenager trope. It had a great storyline. Very original. The only reason I took a star was because it got a little verbose smack in the middle of a conversation. I would have to go back and read what the character had said. That is my personal issue. Other readers may find it easier to keep up with.
This story is about the academy staff and teachers. About their personality, relationship, and lives. I loved it, older characters and not the normal 20 in classes kind of background. The villain definitely crazy psycho stalker material. There are some triggers in the story along with kink play. Some information was brought up seemingly important but the completely disappears which leaves questions on t.
The last few reads I've stopped half way through as I was bored. Not this one! I thoroughly enjoyed the character development. Alecto was amazingly fierce but also sensible. She could kick butt, but she could acknowledge her men could do it better and was not so bloody stupid like too many FMC and actually let them help her. The men were hot, steamy and a touch tormented. Give this trilogy a crack. Very nicely done
DNF. Only one of the guys was remotely good enough for the MC, and I hated the dual POV because it really added nothing and slowed the story down, and once BDSM stuff was mentioned. NOPE, hard pass for me. It was lots of insta-lust from an annoying guy and then one of the guys comes across as SUCH a creeper when he doesn’t even know the MC and fantasizes constantly about physically hurting her and making her his sub. 🤢 Gross. Gave me such an ick so I stopped reading.
I don't... I don't understand why this FMC would be so gung-ho about tracking down this villain without any further plan of what to do when she finds him. So I read Term 1 (book one), but decided to stop there. I just got through a third of this story and she still has no plan and hasn't even told her closest friend what's going on? Hmm. I'm feeling like he's creepy enough to have been a perfectly fine villain even without the backstory of what he did.
This is a reverse harem with the perfect balance of shmexy-times and actual story. I know nothing of bdsm so it was cool to read about it as part of character and relationship building. The overall character development for the four main characters made sense and I found their relationships as pairs and a group absolutely charming.
This trilogy was the freaking best!!! I loved it. Why choose romance at its finest! This one will give you all the feels and even tho there are moments when you want to throat punch some one the story is still bomb!! I love the way this author builds us this world and drys us into each character like we are apart of the story!!! Fantastic 5 star read!!
Okay, the entire trilogy as a whole gets a 4.5! I really loved the last book, Term 3, the most. I enjoyed the ending with Benedict, and I’m glad it was wrapped up the way it was, since it was seriously drawn out over all three books. It was a nice reverse harem, where book three gave me everything I’d been wanting!
What a great final book! There was everything! Action, romance, laughter, and just an amazing book! I am so upset it’s over, but it has been such a great ride. Add this to my favorites list for sure! I can’t wait to read more of Rhea’s books and dive into some of her other worlds!
Eeeeek! The Complete Trilogy is officially live on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited! Not only does this edition include all three books, but it also features a quick catch up with the harem ten years after The End. xoxo
Great all around, laughed out loud, cried, nail biting, had all the feelings. Loved the character growth and story pacing. I can’t wait to see what else the author comes up with.
I’ve enjoyed Rheas other books but this series was a major struggle for me. I skipped to the end but it really would have been a DNF. Just didn’t connect with any of the characters or storyline. Still recommend her other books though
I could've done slow burn, fast plot, or slow plot, fast 🔥 🔥, but everythinggg was slow. it just got boring with every day mundanity and nothing freaking happens.
