One blind date changes everything. Marie Crenshaw hates nothing more than to disappoint people, especially those she cares about. When she lands herself in a bind having made a promise on behalf of a friend, she finds herself stuck to fulfill the duty herself. Holden Guffey is having the time of his life. A brother of Delta Omega Gamma. Parties every night. A new girl on his arm each time. He's young and reckless and the last thing he wants is to settle down. One favor. One simple night of obligation. That's all it takes to screw up everything they each thought they cherished most. But when they stumble upon a dead guy on campus and land themselves in the middle of a real life mystery with uncertainty surrounding them at every corner, perspectives change. The one thing they can absolutely agree on--don't promise anything. Contains mature themes.
Julie Trettel is a USA Today Bestselling Author of Paranormal Romance. She comes from a long line of story tellers. Writing has always been a stress reliever and escape for her to manage the crazy demands of juggling time and schedules between work and an active family of six. In her “free time,” she enjoys traveling, reading, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
DNF at 73%. I need audiobooks and this one was tolerable. Until this girl said "it was true that our ultimate purpose in life was supposed to be as vessels to propagate our species. Sometimes animals became extinct. and when that happened shifters had the tough choice to repopulate or allow their species to die".
WTF!? Did she just say she's supposed to have wolf babies!? How is a wolf and a shifter the same species!?
Before this wackadoodle premise, there were some other things that just made me go “huh?” This is a fated mates story. The dude is the BIGGEST MANWHORE!! But he meets his fated mate and he cannot look at another woman. Tho he wants to. And that does not make me feel great about him flipping his switch and being all in with her.
She starts off by saying “I don’t want a mate” and she runs away from him several times and then gets butt hurt that he doesn’t come after her.
She’s a virgin. We hear about this ALL THE TIME!! Including when her best friend yells at him to treat her well cause she’s a virgin (gasp!). First of all, it’s gross that EVERYONE feels compelled to talk about her sexual history. That is something she should be able to share privately. Secondly, is it only virgins who should be treated with respect!? F that!
The manwhore tries to have sex with the heroine when he’s stressed and disassociating. “He had nearly claimed me in the midst of his delirium.” Gross.
Oh. And FOUR WOMEN fight over the hero and his brother. Like knock down drag out fight. Because one of them is now mated. What!? One of the women keeps throwing herself at the hero because they were supposed to meet up and have sex the night he met the heroine. He is done with his manwhoring, but it just goes to show that everyone sees him as a manwhore.
Add to that, these people are only 19! It’s just not my thing to have people pledging forever on the regular when they are barely adults. Not to say no one can, I just don’t understand a world where they are mates and cannot be allowed to grow up at all. They must be tied down completely almost immediately or they’ll suffer for it.
Sigh. It was an okay book but just got too far down the ridiculous road with the idea that she would need to be responsible for having non-sentient wolf pups for the sake of the world.
Julie Trettel’s way of making realistic characters in a fantasy story is amazing.
Don’t Promise by Julie Trettel is the 6th book in the ARC Shifters series, so if you haven’t read the rest of the series I’d recommend starting from the beginning if you want the context, but you can also read it as a standalone.
Marie is an ambitious student at the Archibald Reynolds College, which is an all-shifter college. Holden appears to be a player who doesn’t take anything seriously. Telling you anything else would be too much of a spoiler, but you will not regret reading this book.
Personally I find Marie completely relatable and I like stories that have relatable characters. Sometimes the plot twists so fast that I felt like “what? How’d that happen?”, but the way Julie Trettel writes makes it possible to follow the plot through the twists without much effort. I’ve read all the books about Westin Pack, Collier pack, ARC and Westin Force, and this book measures up to the rest of them.
I strongly recommend this book. Whether you read it as a standalone or if you want to read the entire series doesn’t matter, this is a really good book.
I’m giving it 4,75 stars, it would have gotten 5 if Marie’s background had been more thoroughly explained, but I also understand why it wasn’t.
OMG! Once again this latest novel grabbed me from the start & I could not put it down! Another 6 star winner, IMHO :) “Don’t Promise” is a fan-freaking-tastic, page-turner from the amazing must read series, the ‘ARC, Shifters-only’ college by Ms. Trettel’s magical mind! ... Always relatable characters, both new and old friends, as well as sizzling chemistry between the H/h, along with the witty dialogue has them all practically jumping off the pages! ... Awesome descriptions with surprise twists & turns, that will keep readers turning pages like crazy! I never write spoilers or recap blurbs, and even tho I always volunteer to read this author's books, it is without any outside influences, and these are my own true feelings! I also buy kindle books whenever I can, so I honestly recommend this to all adult 18+ fans of fiction & now I can't wait for more, but of course I always will!
After failing to find a substitute to fill the shoes of her best friend on a blind date, Marie Crenshaw, hating to let anyone down, chooses to go on it herself. As a favor for his twin Hudson, Holden goes on the blind date and is then blindsided when Marie turns out to be his one true mate. After failing to protect her Holden worries Marie won't have him. Marie is surprised to learn Holden, a womanizer is to be her one mate. Holden and Marie have to learn to navigate this mating while quelling each others fears or the other. A cute story and I was glad to be back at the ARC with the crew around them for this story. Wish there had been more on Marie's abilities earlier in the book however. Still a wonderful read. On to the next.
This book follows Marie and Holden, who end up together on a blind date and find out they are fated mates! Marie is a little bit of a nerd and focuses on studying rather than parting, while Holden is known around campus as a ladies man. Even though they seem completely different, I enjoyed the dynamic of them trying to learn everything about each other. Marie also has a surprising secret that made the story a lot more interesting. I hope we get to see some of her and Holden in Final Extraction!
This book is apart of the ARC shifter series, which is one of the spin off from the Westin pack series. Each book follows a new fated mate couple at Archibald Reynolds college. I like how we get to see characters from previous books so we can see how everyone’s doing. I HIGHLY recommend reading the series in order because you will see characters return in every book. Every book is amazing and I can’t wait for the next one to come out!
I'm just trying play catchup! I.love all Ms. Fretted books. I'm really finding out there are so very many younger generation that some how excluded my book collection. The ARC is still as exciting as ever. Only one thing I was just a little confused by, but knowing it happened before, but still different then the beginning families that brought all these others are, how do very fast, young, they are going from meet to matted. This one not give any clues but was even faster then previous pair. As I said, being a lot behind trying catchup, really hope that isn't going become the future. Kind of like more story before they become attached at hip.

Don't Promise de Julie Trettel serie ARC Shifters libro 6
Argumento:
Don’t Promise, by Julie Trettel, was a suspenseful read and awesome book! Just like ALL of Julie’s books, Don’t Promise did not disappoint. Marie, a sophomore college student at ARC, is a studious and focused student who is an unfortunate “Yes” gal. Marie cannot seem to say “no” to her friends and family and this behavior stresses her out. In the beginning of the novel, Marie is anxious because she promised her friend to set his brother Holden up on a blind date. Marie planned on having her best friend Jessie go on this blind date, but Jessie found her true mate Tim and Marie cannot find anyone else willing to go. Last minute, Marie throws on a dressy outfit and attends the date---because what else could she do?
The date itself was comical, interesting, and brief! But Marie, the focused bookworm, finds herself trying to avoid Holden, man-whore football player, as much as possible. Complications ensue. Are Holden and Marie destined to be together?
Julie Trettel’s monumental plot twist involves a dead body on the ARC campus and the arrival of Westin Force’s Bravo Team on campus to investigate. As a master weaver spins her cloth, Julie Trettel weaves her plot with twists and turns; new and old characters; as well as new experiences and repeat performances. What does the future hold for Marie and her hidden witch talents? Is Holden serious about a future with Marie and what are his talents? Who was the identity of the dead body and are college students at any risk?
I love everything Julie Trettle writes. I only docked this a star because I REALLY hate the man whore/ Virgin girl trope.
There's a conversation that was had that bugged me so bad. The H was talking to a friend about how it's no hig deal he's slept with pretty much everyone that was still breathing but how glad he is his mate will never experience anyone but him. At no point does he regret not giving her the same thing. I'm not a person who thinks virginity is all that important, but when a character displays a belief that it IS important to them, shouldn't he, at the very least, feel some remorse for giving that gift to everyone before her? It's either important or it's not. If you write a character that thinks it is, that character should ACT like he thinks it is.
I have thought about how I would review this book. Seeing as how I am fairly biased. This author introduced me to the world of PNR and so I will always be thankful. I wasn’t exactly thrilled for Marie’s story because I wanted Kaitlyn’s story so bad. That being said I completely understand why it was written this way (which I can say about all of her books 😉) I really enjoyed Marie. I think the people pleaser in me related a little too much to her story. Holden is great! I’m glad we got to see so much more dimension for the twins!! Love getting to revisit my OG’s. Overall I am as pleased as always and already counting down the days until I get to read the next book!
5 / 5 ⭐ I love this book. Actually I love ALL of Julie Trettel's westin pack world books, they are like my comfort books like I always come back to them, I just love them so much. I was really enchanted by this particularly story because their relationship was so beautiful, it reminded me a little about Karis and Damon's relationship, how they were so honest with each other. My only complaint as always is that the books are so short, I'm always looking in what page I'm in because I don't want it to END, and I always finish these books with a sense that she could've written so much more with the story but at least we get books more often so that's a plus. Can't wait for July to bring Final Extraction. So excited!!! 😍❤️
Marie is the best! I loved Tim and Jessie in their novella and was really excited to see them again and get to know Jessie’s roommate Marie. Telling you how cool Marie is, would be a huge spoiler, so I’ll just say you’ll want to start this book early enough so you can binge it cuz figuring out what make Marie special is worth not putting the book down for.
If you love the shifter world Julie has created, you’ll enjoy this story. If you haven’t read any of Julie’s books yet, you can read this story now and not feel completely lost, it’ll just drop some spoilers when you go back and read the rest of her books.
This was such a good book. I love how Marie and Holden finally met and their whole first date disaster. The other woman drama is semi hilarious with what went down on the quad. I love when no one can tell twins apart except for their mates. I’m glad Holden didn’t have any part of it and was subconsciously hooked on Marie from the start. Seeing more of Tim’s backstory was heartbreaking, it shows how strong the connection between Oliver and Tim is. I’m glad Marie could help Tim. I love Marie and finding out her secret is exciting. Can’t wait to see how she helps out in Final Extraction.
I am a big fan of this series! I love reading shifter books and I also love college romance, so when it's put together in a series like ARC shifters I am one happy bunny! This book focused on characters previously met in other stories, Holden and Marie. The book followed their twists and turns and relationship development. You also get appearances from previous characters in the series to see how they are getting on. I really enjoy this series and book and would definitely recommend. Can't wait for the next in the series!
Marie Crenshaw promised her friend Hudson Guffey, she’d arrange a blind date for his brother, Holden. When that plan fell apart, Marie went herself. The joke’s on Hudson because Marie and Holden recognize each other as true mates.
Things are a’changin’ at the DOG house with most of the original DOG’s mated plus two newly mated brothers without mated housing on site for now. A male panther upsets the campus and bunks at the house while Westin Force makes a trip to the campus for unfinished Vendari business. Rating: 4.25stars
A wonderful book, love this series! Got this wonderful book yesterday and stretched it at once. Have read the previous books in the series but if you want you can only read this standalone. This book is about Marie and her True mate Holden. You also get in touch with previous characters in the series. Hope you will find out more about Marie in future books in the series. Would like to know more about what her future will look like.
I have really enjoyed this series, and it just keeps getting better and better. I loved this story, and was happy to see that Marie finally got her much deserved HEA. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming releases from this series, and I truly hope that there will be many more to come. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
I really liked Holden and Marie. Especially the beginning of the book. I enjoyed most of the story but towards the end it started to go quickly. First how Kyle found out about Marie's gift was a little too quick and easy. He said she helped Holden with her gift but she hadn't she'd only tried. I wish the last chapters went a little slower but I'm looking forward to the next one
I really liked this book and would definitely read it again. Holden & Marie are great together. I also love her special gift/secret. Their relationship started off a little rocky like all true mate pairings have been like. But I like how they got to know each other and grew to like each other a lot. There’s a bit of Raglan activity thrown in. I’m excited to see more of Marie in future books. I recommend.
2.5 I didn't hate this one but I didn't like it either. I didnt care for either of the main characters for half the book. Holden wasn't even remotely likeable til the end and even then I didn't love his character. I never disliked Marie but there was never anything relateable about her. It felt like the book was thrown together rather than written on purpose. No development that could be felt throughout the story.
I 100% recommend reading this book! You get the characters you love from previous books plus new characters that we didn't really know anything about! Julie does such a great job introducing us to Holden and Maire that you can't help but root for them to fall in love! This story has romance, steam, and mystery!
Don't Promise is the 6th book in Julie Trettel's ARC shifter series, I received an advanced copy on Saturday night and I could not put this book down! Marie and Holden have become one of my favorites. Not only did Julie provide laugh out loud moments, her heartfelt moments makes you fall more in love with her characters and you can't help but being immersed in her world. Highly recommended.
Julie has once again created another amazing addition to this series. I love the way all of the books connect and flor together. This book will have you staying up all hours of the night just to finish, and then you’ll want to read it again! Wonderful book and I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Love the bonus of Marie! I thought she was out there but this story made me rethink that image. She just has a side bonus I did not see coming. I never would have put her wth a playboy and yet there he was. The scene in the quad with the 4 girls fighting over something so silly as who was Marie's mate was epic! Loved it! Very good plot twist.
Wow, amazing read and loved this match between Holden and Marie. Some great twists and turns and of course the excitement of the Westin Pack. I love the characters and I absolutely love these series’. Great story and plot, some angst, and difficulties but also some cute banter, love scenes and overall friendships being made. Highly recommend to any shifter lovers.
XXX! ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. Marie is one of my favorite characters from Granger's story. Holden was beige. Not as dominant as Dammon, not as sweet as Chad. He was just vanilla. Marie was fun to watch bloom into a confident shifter. Granted she needed Golden to do that. So he had a purpose.
Julie has done it again. You will read about Marie and Holden and how the freak out at mating call. You will need to take the day off from work or read on your day off because you will not want to put it down. This is the 6th book in the ARC shifter series and they keep getting better.
I love love Marie and Holden they are Perfect together and this is a amazing series and I can't wait to read Kaitlyn's story Julie Trettel you did it again you wrote another Awesome book.😍😍❤❤❤❤❤❤
Watching Marie find her true mate was absolutely the best. Not wanting to let others down is hard but finding someone who perfectly compliments you and beings out your more fun and relaxed side is the perfect solution!
Loved this new book in the ARC series. I love how Julie makes each couple's mating unique and captivating. Always fresh but also so happy to see previous couples pop in as well. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Fantastic read.
