In my world, a bride can be given... or she can be taken.
When Winter O'Brien was given to me, she thought she had a say in the matter. She was wrong.
She is my bride. Mine to claim, mine to punish, and mine to use as shamefully as I please. The sting of my belt on her bare bottom will teach her to obey, but obedience is just the beginning.
I will demand so much more.
Publisher's Note: Taken is a stand-alone sequel to Given. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book
This is going to be my last book by Piper Stone for a while... I'm taking a break... I understand the need for a book to have basic guidelines but following the same M.O., becomes tiresome... That being said, I'm not sure I read a mafia related story, "Sacred Sect" felt more like a cult. Matteo's behavior was bipolar. Overall was an ok story, but that's it...
If you like reading dark mafia romances with a strong emotional undertone then this magnificent romance will definitely captured your attention within the first few pages. The plot is highly intriguing, interesting & easy to read with good world building & outstanding scene descriptions. The characters are well-developed with realistic flaws & opposing personalities. There is: a young woman (Winter) asked to come home for her birthday is told to marry a domineering alpha male (Matteo) with memories of a painfully past & she is not too happy about this idea & tries to escape her inevitable future, mafia, various crime syndicates, a sacred sect, a powerful council, arranged marriages, twists & turns, manipulations, secrets, blackmail, deceit, betrayal, drama, intrigue, suspense, threats, enemies, defiance, escape attempts, discipline, spankings, confrontations, warnings, compromises, love, steamy scenes, contentment & a well-deserved satisfying conclusion.
I loved this story about a sacred Sect which involved a young woman who came home only to find out she was there to fulfill her responsibilities as a mate for someone she doesn’t know anything about. Winter was forced to marry a man, Matteo. He was a powerful and dangerous guy who decided he wanted Winter to become his wife. Winter was so upset with everyone but did as asked. The relationship between the two was off the charts. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other. With some work Matteo was almost sure he met the right girl. And no one was going to take her away from him. The book is quite good, it’s sexy, hot and full of suspense and twists in it. Loved the two main characters, Winter and Matteo. Chemistry is off the charts with these two. A great read. ❤️
Definitely not the book I was expecting. I honestly almost didn't finish it because I couldn't get immersed in the story or characters. However, I struck it out and the story got better, and I absolutely adored Winter. Her spirit, in light of how she was raised, shone through, and she was able to catch the heart of Matteo.
Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Terrific Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Intense! Taken By: Piper Stone Narrated by: Thomas Locklear
Piper Stone delivers another powerful dark romance novel, this story is a stand-alone sequel to “Given”, it set in the same world where a secret society, the “Sacred Sect”, continues to rule and hold the power over many, including politicians. Some of their old ways were supposed to be let go but a power play is in the works again and Christian Cappodano helps set another plan in motion. That plan includes an arranged marriage between his brother Matteo and Winter O’Brien, a tradition of the sect, a council member’s daughter is promised to the son of another when they are young. A marriage made for a power play rather than love. Neither Matteo or Winter are thrilled but Matteo knows the workings for the council and the sect and the repressions if the marriage does not happen. Winter was never in the loop, so she has no clue or does she, either way she wants no part of it and tries to run but Matteo catches her every time. I loved these two together, Matteo a domineering alpha does not scare Winter who has no problem staying up for herself. There is definitely chemistry between them, she needed to realize they were both on the same side and it was all for her own good. This fast paced story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, betrayals, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt and emotional moments and some hot loving and romance. Piper Stone, thank you for another entertaining and thrilling ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Thomas Locklear is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. He continues to bring these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. He is amazing at covering both the male and female roles. He does an awesome job portraying the characters, grasping each persona and playing the role with perfection. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen!
Willow was helpless to resist their explosive lovemaking. by sewsummore
This is the second book in the series featuring the "Sacred Sect." Willow, the daughter of a Sect member had come home to celebrate her twenty-fourth bithday with her parents at a party organised in her honor. She had no idea that it would include the announcement of her marriage to another Sect member, someone she had never met. Matteo knew that his marriage would be announced that night, he was duty bound to agree, but never expected that the young woman he had spent a short time chatting to in their greenhouse earlier that night was his future bride. As you would expect, Willow refused to consider the marriage and ran, however Matteo soon caught her and forcefully returned her to the party for punishment. This was not a good start to a loving relationship despite the explosive chemistry between them. I enjoyed reading this story, especially since I had previously read and enjoyed, the first book in the series, this added to my enjoyment but was not necessarily to be read first to enjoy this book. Willow had not expected to become involved with the Sect or it's members, she had distanced herself from the Sect, and was determined not to marry without love. Matteo had felt attracted to Willow from their short meeting and was overjoyed to learn she would become his wife. He was a member determined to ensure the continuation of the Sect's long history and supported his brother in many of the reforms needed for the Sect to survive. He knew that Willow would need to be handled carefully and controlled and he was just the man to do it. His dominating control was exactly what Willow needed in her life, and was helpless to resist their explosive lovemaking.

She is called home on her birthday and it is going to be one she will never forget
Taken is a story that follows the book Given. This is the story of Matteo and Winter. I was hoping that I would really like Taken, after not really liking Given very much. The story is an arranged and forced marriage that neither participant want. But it is what happens within the Sacred Sect and when Winter is about to turn twenty-four it is the custom. But what was not counted on is that Matteo would want Winter like no other once he finally met her. She on the other hand was still not into it as she has been independent and has a mind of her own. Plus let's not forget that she was tricked into this by her family so she is feeling more than a little peeved-off and betrayed. If you have read any other books by Piper Stone then you know what you are in for.......lots of spanking, punishment, an unwilling woman and things that border on and cross into abuse and rape. In the end with this book I found some things that I really liked, Winter is an awesome female character in the story, and some not so much. I did skim over some of the book as at times it seemed overly drawn out but at other times it was fast-paced and things were rolling hot and heavy. Overall I am in the middle on this book as I did not love it but I did not hate it.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Let’s start with the story which was 3.5 the narrator was 5+. The beginning is good! I was drawn in immediately and the car scene whew! I was ready for constant action and heat. The book provides heat and a lot of it. Heat with bdsm mixed in so if punishment and owning isn’t your thing then might wanna skip on over. The action though I think could have been more. Part of the problem is when an author says mafia, I just expected more action and maybe violence. The one gun scene stops at the draw and switched to remembering of events. The majority of the book is held at one location exploring their relationship. It’s more erotica with hints of mafia. The book is also super descriptive in feelings. If you like your dirty romances with a hint of bad this is probably going to be a 5 star read for you. I think I am just a little more blood thirsty and stubborn because I would have liked to see more of a fight from the lead female. Now let’s talk about the amazingness of the narrator. I actually had to stop and look up who the female was! I have never been more blown away by a male playing a woman’s part in the book. When he switched to the male POV it sent shivers down my spine and my ovaries sat up at attention. All of his character voices were amazing. There was never a doubt who was talking and his sounds that accompanied the reading... again I am just blown away and will be looking for more read by him!
Everything to Play For - My review is written after listening to the audio version of this book.
This is one of those stories where it's hard to know who is good and who isn't, who you can trust and who you can't. The storyline is intriguing and once started compulsive listening. The characters are so well-drawn and have such depth as they try to come to terms with what fate has decided is their future.
It's a story about a secret society, a society with great power which isn't always used wisely. This story deals with an arranged marriage between Matteo Cappodano and Winter O’Brien one which Winter tries to flee from but unbeknownst to her, there is no escape. Matteo is a strong and dominant man and he's not willing to let her go. This marriage may have been arranged but once he caught his first sight of Winter he knew she was going to be his no matter what he had to do to keep her safe, even if it means bringing the Sacred Sect Down
The story does have lots of heavy sex and spankings so if that offends you don't listen but the story is so much more than the sex it's intriguing, exciting and does lead to a HEA.
The narration by Thomas Locklear is wonderfully done, his talent is incredible his performance brings each character to life it's hard to realise that all of these distinctive and different voices come from one man!
Wow, what an exceptional read! I was hooked after the first few pages. When Winter is called home by her parents to the Hampton's on her 24th birthday, she is dreading it. She doesn’t want any part of their rich social life. They are part of the Secret Sect and doesn’t want any part of the old traditions. When she is forced to open her box, it reveals more then riches, she is to marry Matteo, a dark and dangerous man. Winter is a strong spirited woman and promptly refuses to follow the rules and be obedient. She runs, steals a car with Matteo hot on her heels. Neither one are in favor of the arrangement, but Matteo will do anything for his family and keeping the Secret Sect a secret. The attraction between them is electric and dynamic. A well written storyline and wonderful, captivating characters. I loved Winter’s strong spirit, determination and intelligence and the more I learned Matteo’s secrets, the more I was intrigued by him. An emotional read that contains secrets and lies, deceit, betrayal, discipline, humiliation, a corrupt senator, intense, passionate and electric chemistry that blossoms into something so much more. Loved it!

Well we are off to a cracking start when we see our heroine running away from an arranged marriage, but not any arranged marriage. Oh no! She is caught by her would be husband and a bit of discipline is given. Sparks certainly fly between the two. Then the book begins proper and we are treated to a story full of greed, lies, politics and even murder. All wrapped up in a secret sect. What more could you want? Well I will tell you what else is in the book. A sassy feisty heroine by the name of Winter O'Brien who can throw a good punch when she has to. Then we have Matteo. A tortured dark soul but is so sexy when it comes to Winter. A rivetting stpryline full of great characters. Passion and intrigue abounds and don't get me started on the Italian mafia. Whilst all this is happening a beautiful dark love story is unfolding between Winter and Matteo and the passion is off the charts between the two. An excellent read and a real page turner. I have no hesitation in recommending this book. Another from the stable of Piper Stone.

Donna L 4.0 out of 5 stars SO GOOD Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2020 Within the first few pages i knew that i would enjoy this book by Piper Stone, and i did.I loved the Mafia influence and the darkness scattered throughout the storyline.I loved the intensity from start to finish.I particularly loved the strength that Winter had, despite all the odds being being stacked up against her.She was a young woman who knew what she wanted out of life, and it wasn’t Matteo, or was it? Their destiny’s were set in stone and they had no choice but to comply.
A birthday that Winter would never forget. The BOX.What power did it wield?.Winter was determined to live her own life, but Matteo had other plans for them. Her mind despised him, but her body craved his touch. They were two damaged souls, could they heal each other.
The plot included secrets, was full of betrayal, desperation, a nightmare of the worst kind.Great characters and an excellent read.

A dark, fated romance that can’t be denied Winter stumbles upon Matteo in the greenhouse, each not knowing who the other is, and their physical attraction to one another is through the roof. When Winter opens her sealed Box from her birth by the sect to find that she is to marry Matteo, she denounces having anything to do with the requirement and runs away. Matteo catches up with Winter and after having a come to jesus moment about who is in charge, they return to the party. Matteo knows there is more to their wedding match to help the sect fight their enemies, but with a traitor in their mix, keeping Winter safe is Matteo’s top priority. But will the threats against them and the sect take down their fledgling romance? You have to read to find out and won’t put the book down until you turn the last page! I am going to reread Given which sets the stage for some of what goes on in this book, but it is totally standalone.
This is a thrilling action packed, page turner with secrets, lies, hate, betrayal with a well-deserved HEA. The characters are well developed and the plot and story line are filled with twists and turns and revelations. Matteo and Winter are both forced into their arranged marriage and while Matteo knows more about the secret sect and knew about the arranged marriage, he is still unable to resist and fall in love with his unwilling bride, he wants her from the first moment he sees her.
Winter is a feisty, spirited and independent woman and she has been betrayed by her family and forced to marry, her hatred towards everyone involved is intense and volatile. Both Matteo and Winter grow as individuals as well as a couple. The authors portrayal of the supporting characters is excellent and supports and elevate the plot. I loved the book, excited to read the next.

Where do I even begin with a review for this exceptional book? Have you read 'Given'? 'Taken' is the sequel and is so much more than even the first book and believe me, 'Given' kept my heart pounding and my eyes glued. 'Taken' has literally taken it to a whole new level with Matteo and Winter. Both have very strong personalities. Both belief in doing what they feel is right. Both are truly on the same side without knowing it, seeing circumstances from different perspectives. And chemistry? Even without knowing who each other are and that they are contracted by the Secret Sect to be married, they have a chemistry that pops and sizzles before jumping off the page. There's corruption, mafia, a secret society. There are so many lies and secrets that HAVE to come out eventually. This entire book surpassed anything I could have hoped for. Congratulations, Piper on a fantastic read.
Taken is a dark mafia romance that captures your attention within the first few pages. This book stars Winter and Mateo, who are opposites in many ways. Winter is a strong, feisty, opinionated woman who won’t be forced into an arranged marriage. Mateo is a possessive and controlling alpha male.
Winter and Mateo have great chemistry but are reluctant to give in to their romance. This story involves secrets, betrayal, threats, and danger. As Winter and Mateo navigate these dangers their romance is portrayed with charged emotions, distinguishing traits, and intense lust.
Taken is overall a captivating read albeit with some lulls. I would highly recommend this book.
This is the first book I’ve read by Piper Stone and I will defiantly be checking her other books out!

The blurb really attracted me to this book. I love mafia stories especially with forced/arranged marriages. I must admit this started off absolutely fantastic. The MFC was feisty, outspoken and strong willed and the MMC was dominant, possessive and controlling....perfect combination!!! The overall plot was good and i loved how the characters battled their own demons and situation. The story did loose some momentum about the 70% mark. I felt the MFC gave up to easily and accepted what was being forced on her and the whole mafia storyline became quite complex around the same time, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did! The story was very well written....Would highly recommend.

If you read Given, you have already met Matteo as he is Christian’s brother and in accordance with the sect he is to marry Winter and so begins the intrigue. As much as she falls under Matteo’s spell Winter hates the sect and everything it stands for and is strongly opposed to the marriage. As they fall in lust and then in love there are devious minds plotting against the sect and threatening Winter, something Matteo will move heaven and earth to prevent. The dynamic between Matteo and Winter is so hot the page sizzles and as the plan unfolds Matteo and Christian come up with a plan. The threat is resolved and Winter shows her love for Matteo by removing his greatest regret and fear and allowing them to have the happy ever after they deserve.
although this book was mentioned as a mafia romance, to me it was more about the upper class of new york's finest and the secrets and lies they kept to keep them up high and wealth in their pockets. the mafia were involve but only in a small way, but that didnt take anything away from the book. matteo was a dominant alpha male who would set the world to rights for his family, the sect and the woman he was falling in love with. if only he could make her feel the same. winter was an amazing woman. not taking what was forced upon her and trying to leave her false world behind. but the chemistry between her and matteo was off the charts, they crackled and sizzled when in close distance to each other. the passion in the book was on the darker side, but made for an entertaining read.
This is the second book in the duet. You do not need to read Given to enjoy this book, but it helps explain the world they live in. Winter is turning 24 and she has been called home. This birthday is special to the Sacred Sect. She is going to be given to someone within their families. That someone is Matteo. Neither Winter or Matteo want this, but once Matteo meets her, he wants her. Matteo and Winter are combustible together. I enjoyed how independent Winter is and how she defies Matteo. Matteo is just all around attractive, especially with the dominant vibes he gives off. I'm hoping that there will be more books in this series.

OMG such a dark sexy read that will pull you into the story and not let you go. Winter and Matteo have grow up in the Sacred Sect. Winter comes home only to find out that she has an obligation to marry someone she doesn't know. Winter is forced to marry Matteo who is dangerous and powerful and he wants Winter as his wife. These two were like octopuses and couldn't keep there hands off each other. The relationship is off the charts. This is a hot and sexy story with suspense, drama, twist and turns. Love this story. Can't wait to read another book from Piper Stone. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Taken is a dark mafia romance, and is a stand-alone sequel to Piper Stones previous mafia story, Given. Matteo's brother is the new leader to their secret society s council, and he is surprised when he is told that they are bringing back an old tradition, The Box. On each female members 24h birthday, they open a box that was supposedly put together and sealed when she was a baby. Winter is not prepared for this and is horrified when she opens her box to find she is engaged. To Matteo. I really like Winter and Matteos dynamic, their chemistry is great. They work together very well.

Piper Stone. What can I say? Her stories are full of mystery, lies, betrayal, steamy hot sex. And this one definitely does not disappoint. It's action packed with twists and turns. This story is dark, clouded with bribery, a secret sect, political deals and an unwanted arranged marriage. Thomas Locklear is a phenomenal talented voice performer. Not just a narrator. A performer of epic proportions. His portryal of Winter is sexy, sultry, soft. I was looking for a 2nd narrator for her voice. Nope, It's all Thomas. And his voice of Matteo is just wow! He just oozes confidence and sex. I was gifted this audio and offered my honest review.
Taken is quite the read. It's dark, sexy and oh so delicious! Of course Winter isn't very happy with the direction her life has taken but, with someone like Matteo, really, how bad can it be. The Sacred Sect.... Winter, betrayed by her parents, who are members of the Sacred Sect, has no choice but run. But there's no way she will ever escape the deliciously sexy, sinful Matteo Capodanno, the man she's been given to. These two will give you the ride of your life when you take their journey with them. It won't be an easy ride but definitely well worth it!
I thought the mafia story was pretty good. The intrigue, suspense, and danger kept me interested. That was really surprising because I am not a huge fan of the mafia genre.
The romance between Matteo and Winter was surprising. Not because of the romance exactly. They had great chemistry. It was more because Winter's anger and hatred seemed so intense. Then she decided she loved him. All the vitriolIc behaviour disappeared.
I would just advise to pay attention to the Publisher's Note.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.
4.5 ⭐️ I really enjoy mafia romance with arranged/forced marriage and this one definitely delivered! I loved Winter! She was strong, independent and feisty and knew how to punch back. Matteo definitely had his hands full with her and their chemistry was steamy hot. The story flowed smoothly and there was lots of suspense, intrigue and secrets to keep things interesting. I feel like some things dragged a bit towards the end but overall it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I look forward to read more!
Taken: A Dark Mafia Romance, is a dark and gritty, mafia romance by Piper Stone. I love a good mafia romance and the darker the better for me. I give this book 5 stars on the darkness. Matteo and Winter are the couple that you love to see fight it out in and out of the sheets. The twists, turns and secrets revealed along the way help the story have a constant even flow, and keeps the reader hanging on for what comes next in the story. If you are addiction is to dark, mafia romance, Taken is the book for you.
Is no one going to talk about the rape in the beginning of the book? Which the main female character doesn't even call it that for some reason. She's supposed to be strong yet every time he disciplines her she forgets she's supposed to hate him and is attracted to him. This book just rubbed me the wrong way. I usually like this author's books but not this one, I think it's the fact they totally disregarded the rape in the beginning. And they're not even in the mafia.
Life as she knows it is over... When Winter is called to come home for her birthday celebration she should have known better. The powerful council was supposed to change things within the sacred sect. Starting with the box. Instead, they are still manipulating the members with arraigned marriages. The latest victims are Matteo and Winter... I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily
