Maple’s adventures in NewWorld Online’s treasure hunt event continue! As she and Sally explore more of the map, they encounter new friends, such as the kimono-clad Kasumi, and the eggs that dropped from the previous boss hatch to reveal adorable pets. Together with their allies, the two are thrown into battle against unstoppable monsters, rival players...and even each other?!
There is nothing revolutionary about this manga's story, but I am still greatly enjoying the idea that someone can achieve such great success by thinking so wildly outside the box. In this volume, I'm not sure whether it was Maple's thoughtfulness or her luck that led her and her friend to "adopt" the two monster eggs, but the result is sort of like taking your Pokemon into a more serious fantasy game, and the result is really getting goofy. That story, combined with some of the tales like the "giant squid" battle, were really enjoyable.
I enjoy the MMO vibes that this book envokes. The terminology and action sequences really feel authentic in that regard. My main issue with the story is that there isn't much going on. There isn't a main antagonist nor is there a growing cast of characters that are all that meaningful. I would like to see the story pick up. Otherwise the video game lingo and feel will begin to get stale.
Once again, Kindle did not automatically add my book - probably because Goodreads doesn’t actually have a listing for the Kindle edition. Read it January, 2022.
This whole volume takes place within the second in-game event, so even though the story doesn't progress very much, it is still a really fun read. I love all the different challenges the characters face and the crazy ways that they overcome them all.
I liked the addition of Kasumi's character in this volume and hope that we get to see more of her as the series progresses. Kanade was another interesting addition, who I'd be interested to see a bit more of. Syrup and Oboro are both adorable and such cute additions to the story.
