The aspiring priest Col and Myuri, daughter of the wisewolf Holo and the merchant Lawrence, are finally settled into Atiph City with the help of Heir Hyland. Setting the noble from Winfiel Kingdom’s ambitious plan into motion, Col and a group of local scribes devote themselves to transcribing the scriptures into the vernacular. But spreading the words of God strays from the path of righteousness as Our Book of God becomes a catalyst of unruly contempt towards the Church. Is this revolt too a part of Heir Hyland’s vision? While Col clings to his naïve faith in humanity’s goodness, he needs Myuri’s wisdom more than ever.
With the church holding the scriptures hostage from those unable to read the original Latin a group including Col (and Myuri because she wanted to travel with him) are working diligently to translate and distribute the holy book so the church cannot use a lack of services as a reason to force a tithe on others. However things are not always as they seem for as righteous as a cause may be or pious a person may claim to be it is hard to not give in to the baser of human instincts for many. Are both sides holding their secret plans close to chest as the crowds affected by this power struggle? Perhaps a little walking around incognito will help Col understand what Myuri is already starting to understand.
Honestly this series doesn't have the same charm as the original series but I still enjoy how the little people (in this case Col and Myuri) get involved in these titanic struggles between powerhouses and eventually overcome one side or another while not being used completely by either side. Within this volume Col explains to Myuri why he is dedicated to the church and about his youth though the artist shows Col as more of a young teen in the book and I am pretty sure he was younger in the original series. Honestly the only thing that is bothering me (for some reason) at this point is that Myuri has 2 sets of ears when her wolf ears appear and when we see her human ears they are really sticking out but being young I guess that is just because she is in one of those awkward growing stages so I can overlook it fairly easy. Let us hope the two of them are as smart and lucky as their parents were in the past. :)
Bit on the fence about this series, the first one was ok but I found myself quite enjoying this. It's mostly about translating scripture and angst between the townsfolk and the church.
I like the boy telling the girl how he converted and started believing in god, overall it was pretty interesting
