Inversion 1 - Looking Through Mirrors

CONQUERING FEAR. InVersion 1 is a psychological mystery wherein a courageous woman must redefine her place in the world after losing everything.

Book 1 in the trilogy.

Angela had so many problems she needed a list to keep track of them. During a particularly informative interrogation, she learned that she was found unconscious at the scene of a murder and was suspected as being somehow involved. The police took joy in conveying the terrifying details. Yet she had no idea who she was or how she came to be in Paris, France. To make matters worse, the murderer was out there somewhere likely waiting for her—unfinished business.

Next was her name. While she was in a coma, the hospital’s computer randomly selected it. ‘Better than a number. It means Messenger of God,’ she was told. ‘Surely a cruel joke, if computers could joke or had any sensitivity at all,’ she thought. That concept would figure large in her future.

As much as she wanted to remember her past, her psychiatrist, and significant others that magically came into her life, all wanted her to start life over, fresh. ‘Like pruning a rose, the new growth will be even more beautiful,’ they argued convincingly in unison. She countered that it wasn’t pieces of their lives being amputated and tossed into the compost bin.

The reason for her resistance was because her past began to reveal itself through intense visions. And there was someone central to those visions. Her eyes blazed through the darkness of amnesia— challenging, powerful, and unyielding. ‘If she is me, then who am I?’ Angela thought. ‘Then why am I?’ The person staring back in the mirror wouldn’t answer.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A woman wakes up in a French hospital with amnesia. As she tries to recover her memories, she can't quite tell what is real and what is imaginary. Meanwhile, the police wish to interrogate her, and others seem to be hunting her.

Tense.

First line: I awoke into a nightmare, gasping a desperate first breath as an infant might.

After waking in a foreign hospital with no idea of what's happened, and no memories of her life, our main character finds herself diagnosed with amnesia. Due to the gruesome nature of how she was discovered.. there's quite a bit of mystery, and plenty of suspicion, involving this strange woman with no past.
It's not long before she begins moving forward, surrounded by strangers who call her 'Angela', a name the nurses have given her, though she continues to be perplexed by the unfamiliar face in the mirror.

The writing is good, intelligent, and fluid. Not a fast-paced, suspense filled ride. I'm intrigued by what's going on with Angela, so much of her story is only hinted at through dreams and subtle nudges, her character inspiring curiosity. It was almost as though the entire thing is an experiment with Angela as the subject.

This was a pretty good book, a little slow at times, and it raises a lot of questions as you go..
I would recommend this if you like questionable, unreliable, and untrustworthy characters (and I do).

The Inversion trilogy is told in the first person. As such, we discover the world with and alongside the protagonist. And like the protagonist, we are quickly introduced to psychological and physical occurrences that don’t quite add up. This is psychological mystery part. The other part show us an incredibly strong yet vulnerable character who will not give up on herself even when her world gets very, very, and oh yes, very dark.

There are many stories where the lead character must endure some torment to come out the other side a changed, stronger, and wiser person. Inversion 1 has this in spades, and the person that comes out on the other side is not anyone you’d expect. Gather up your courage and walk side-by-side with this amazing woman to the glorious and well fought for conclusion of this book. Her story is only getting started. Inversion 2 amps up the adventure a few more levels.

Thank you to author Micheal Krozer for this FREE Kindle copy of Inversion 1 - Looking Through Mirrors. And thanks to Goodreads for hosting the opportunity.

I liked this one. Simple but captivating and engaging for the most part - I thought a little "over-the-top" with the caging in the freighter scenery. But, overall a good story, visuals and characters that ends where the next book in the series will begin. Although sporadic, there were too many editing issues, which pulls off one star.

I was drawn into the story immediately with the very intriguing settings and a plot that moves at a good pace. The voiced reading was immersive and added a new dimension, similar to ‘listening’ to a film, eyes closed. I can’t wait for the second bk

This psy/mystery starts off with a pop, levels out and then builds to a massive explosion. I felt for the main character and her heartfelt journey towards recreating herself into a new image. We are all evolving and growing and I wonder at what point in believing who you want be becomes who you are. For example, my passion was to be this kind of person and now I am. How wonderful it must feel to achieve that realization. In this story, that’s merely a step along a path that snakes through some terrifying territory. The notes say this is book one in a trilogy. I’ll be looking for the next one.
