Lucius Vinemont ruined my life.
It was a long time ago. It feels like yesterday.
I haven't let it go, and I won't. Not until he's dead. Lucius is the bogeyman, the shadow under my bed, the nightmare that wakes me in my sleep.
The funny part is that I used to think I loved him, in shades of girlish, foolish love. But then he killed the only thing I had left, and Lucius twisted the knife. It's what he does. And now, it's what I do.
Once Lucius is gone, I'll be able to breathe again, to live a life that isn't haunted. That's what I tell myself. But the closer I get to ending the nightmare, the more he gets under my skin. The more he makes me feel things I vowed to never feel, especially not for a man like him. Never for a monster like him.
As it turns out, Lucius isn't the only monster from my past, he's just the one I can't shake.
When you shoot a man through the heart, he's supposed to die. But Lucius Vinemont isn't a man. He's a monster that has haunted my nightmares for the past five years.

This woman—fuck, the brass balls she has. She wants me dead, and I want to know what she tastes like.”

Did I read the blurb to this book and know immediately this would be my first Celia Aaron book?

Did I want to read it bad enough that I decided to dive right into it without having read the rest of the series?

Do I regret this decision?

Because spank my @ss and call me Rosy, this was a delicious little story that I simply inhaled.

I mean, the story begins with our heroine shooting the hero in the chest. With zero regrets. Thinking she killed him and being proud of it.
Actual footage of me reading it?

I'm a sucker for a good enemies to lovers book. And when you throw in revenge and a secret society? I'm putty in your hands. PUTTEH I tells ya.

Now clearly I missed a continuing story arc regarding The Acquisition, but we're given just enough details in this book that you don't feel like you missed much. Also, kindly suspend your disbelief here, because it's all kinds of OTT and almost crazy at times, but man I loved that about it.

Evelyn is desperately craving revenge against the man that took everything away from her in the most brutal of ways. All she's known for the past years is her drive for her vengeance and she won't rest until Lucius is dead.

Lucius is just the kind of anti hero I love; he's an irreverent manwh@re who seems like he gives zero f*cks yet has all of the intensity. He's a rich businessman and a ruthless killer all in one. And when he discovers the stunning woman who wants him dead? Well, let's just say he wants other things.

I loved the banter, the chemistry, and the crazy OTT story. These characters were nuts. Truly. Especially the villain. Dude was NUTS. Like kaka for coco puffs sort of crazy. But I devoured it. I did feel like the love entered the chat a little soonish. But Evelyn and Lucius do have a connection that spans years. All the same, it did feel a bit too quick for me considering they quite literally go from "want to kill you" to "paint me like one of your French girls" in the span of a few chapters. Do I hate that? Absolutely not. But I would have wanted more of a burn there. That aside, I inhaled this story and I'm completely hooked. I need more of this series and I'm also really hoping Teddy, the younger brother gets a book next because NEED.

"The good news is, you're still out there, darlin'. The bad news is, I'm coming for you."

I discovered this author early last year with Blackwood and promptly proceeded to devour like 5 of her books in a row. I love that I can always count on her stories being on the darker side (yet not gory or grotesque), edgy, and sexy.

Now, I had not read any of this Acquisition series before so I wasn't familiar with the backstory concerning the Sovereign, Sinclair, and Evie's brother, Red. I felt like the author did a good job of quickly catching us up, though I do think some areas of this backstory might've needed a little more depth in this book, particularly concerning Evie and her bother's Red's history.

The beginning of this book has a hook like pretty much no other. Long story short, the heroine wants to take the hero down and take over his company. So, she chooses to trespass on his property late at night, seek him out, and shoot him. In the chest. And not give one single sh$t about it.

17805445

Did I mention the hero, Lucius, was coming on to her the whole time?

“You’re still trying to make a pass?”

“Not a pass. I’m offering to fuck you, to give you what you need so hard that you beg me to stop. Something tells me you need a good, rough fuck to knock some sense into you. Because you aren’t a killer. You’re something else. Something I want.”

It was all the enemies-to-lovers goodness my little black heart could desire!!

Lucius is apparently the cold and unfeeling of the Vinemont brothers. He is immediately taken by Evie though, so I will say, the enemies-to-lovers is really more one-sided and coming almost entirely from Evie.

I generally enjoyed this book, but felt that the execution could have been stronger in certain parts, with more depth and less over the top. The right words were there, but I didn't always "buy it," or feel it. I was also confused (still am actually) about some of the details that went down concerning the villain of the story.

I did love the beginning and enjoyed all the hella steamy bits. I appreciate the two epilogues as well. While this wasn't my favorite work by this author, I did generally enjoy it and would read more from this series if it continues. I hope Teddy gets his own book!

So I have missed Celia Aaron's dark stories so so much. I was so excited to read Lucius as that blurb kept calling my name. Lucius and Evelyn have a dark and turbulent history between them. This causes so much hatred and strife but also highlights their deep attraction for one another. Lucius was sexy, twisty and so delicious. I could not stop reading!

A standalone in the Acquisition world, Lucius was so so addicting to read. If you are new to the Acquisition series, Aaron does a fantastic job of providing readers with a quick reminder/update about the Aquisition and the relevance to Lucius and Evelyn now. While I thought this story had great banter and chemistry, the story does take a complete one-eighty when the idea of love comes in. We were in amazing enemies to lovers territory with all that smexy tension and banter when love declarations and realizations are made out of the blue. It definitely was jolting and unexpected.

Overall this was a solid read. I enjoyed the banter and the tension and can't wait to read more from this author in the future! 4 stars! ~Ratula

ARC READ

FIRST OF ALL, what a delicious cover. We stan! Since I'm a newbie to this series, I felt wonderfully introduced to the universe Aaron has built. Be warned that there are some heavy things going on in this book. The two main characters had a whole lot of hate love going on. Anyways. I'm curious about the rest of the books now!

Lucius, by Celia Aaron, is a dark enemy to lover’s romance, and it starts with a BANG.
I read this book twice in an 8-hour time frame because I couldn't get enough.

🖤 Anti Hero
🖤 Strong FMC
🖤 Revenge
🖤 Slow Burn

Lucius is the man every woman loves to hate.
He’s a monster with no remorse for the crimes he’s committed- including murder.
Lucius has one weakness, and that's Evelyn.

“Never lie to me. The devil always knows.”

Five years ago, Evelyn watched her family get murdered in the most horrific way possible, burned alive, and now she’s back with a vengeance.
Her plans include murder and corporate sabotage, and her target is the person who killed her family, which means her sights are on Lucius.

These characters are epic and unforgettable.
So if you love a strong, kickass heroine and a hero with an idgaf attitude, read Lucius.
Coming out August 3rd

“Keep hell warm for me.”

I loved this story!! Lucius was every bit extremely lovable and adorable as he claimed to be😍 in a veryy wicked way. 🔥

“The good news is, you’re still out there, darlin’. The bad news is, I’m coming for you.”

The plot was simple but very intense and effective in grabbing a person's attention. I remember holding my breath for some scenes and chuckling during others. It was a great mix of sarcastic humour, obsessions, bad guy action, and family love with a bit of revenge thrown in for good measure 😈✨

“Now sit on my face so I can prove how much I love you.”

Lucius was a witty sarcastic devil and Evie was a badass bitch . I loved both of them, they were such a treat🖤

Jesus Christ. Who is this woman? She looks soft and inviting, but her teeth are sharp and her claws? They leave fucking marks. I wouldn’t mind having a few on me.

Despite all this, what I didn't love about this book was the following two things:
1)The "enemies until one kills the other to sudden insta love" trope. One moment Evie hates Lucius enough to shoot him and the next, she loves him and wants to help him protect his family. It was bizarre to say the least.

2) I hated Stella in this book. I know, I know, she's not the main character, side characters shouldn't affect my opinion about the book, blah blah and blah. But damn, that chick annoyed the hell outta me. She was trying so hard to look and behave "brave and fierce" but it looked foolish more than anything else. I was rolling my eyes every time she appeared in the story.

I am not sure how this happened but while starting Lucius I forgot how I truly missed Celia Aaron's dark and sinful mind.

The stories she writes, full of rage and haunting, yet sensual and steaming hot. The bad mixed with the worst, yet sweet and loving. The villains in every story falling in love with the innocent.

I am so grateful for this novel. I missed the Vinemonts and their sins or maybe release. And don't let me start on the cover, right? So smoking.....

Lucius was one helluva read. I might add, I finished in just few hours. This is book you  can’t put down no matter how hard you try. It keeps you glued to the pages.

I loved Evie's and  Lucius' characters. They matched perfectly and simply made my heart beat a lot faster and feel soooo on edge. The thrill soothed by happiness. The feel of the love, yet keeping you on pins and needles.

I freaking love LUCIUS, he is so cocky but in a funny way, i laughed many times thanks to his personality. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!
I loved how the book started, i loved her hate for him ,and how he couldn't give a f*ck , he was already mesmerized about her :D
The story started really well, slowly etc, but then the last chapters where super rushed and the i love you's at the end where pretty fast for my liking, i wished, NO, needed more chapters, their happy ending needed more build up,and get to know BUT i still loved them together.

p.s UNFORTUNATELY i did forget about all the 3 books about Sin and Stella *sigh* i read them so many years ago and i hate when this happens , i don't wanna reread them now.

I absolutely loved the 3 brothers together, and i wish we have Teddy's book too, hopefully soon enough. Before i forget the amazing bond they have.

Review :

It's been years since I have read a book by this author and Omg, I missed her so much! Her stories are crazy and the best thing about them is her heroes. Lucius is someone who made his first appearance in Sinclair's trilogy and I have been wanting to read his book ever since then.

When I saw this book, I simply went crazy with the need to get it but nothing could have prepared me for this level of craziness! The heroine of this story is absolutely amazing and so very perfect for Lucius. She wants revenge with everything she has and for that to happen she needs to Kill Lucius, only she misses her shot. And now the Hunter is after her.

Lucius can't get his mind off the beautiful woman who hates him enough to shoot him mercilessly. Only she made a mistake by leaving him alive. Now he won't rest until he finds her and has her all for himself. There is nothing he wants more than a chase and she was going to give that to him and so much more.

I can't recommend this book enough to all the dark romance loving people. Even though the series is connected to another series by this author, I think you should read them in order for the best experience. But still this one can be read as a standalone!

So good to revisit the coal black world of the Acquisition and get Lucius' story. His dark heart 🖤 is challenged by a ghost with equally dark intentions.  Evie has made her decision  to destroy Lucius, and his family, in every way, but fate has a different opinion and they will both have to think about the direction of their lives and tackle enemies other than each other.
Passionate and determined,  these are two exciting  characters whose fates are interwoven, but to what conclusion? Surely back, read and enjoy. I certainly  did.💖💖💖💖💖

What a hot, fast-paced read! I just FLOVED Lucius. Normally, if we’re going to see level 10 snark, it comes from the heroine. Not this time, Lucius has some major game and he uses it against everyone - friend or foe. He’s one of those guys that drive you crazy. Total manwh*re, super entitled, and hot as f*ck and knows it. Evelyn is just his perfect foil. What more can you say about a chick that unapologetically shoots a man in the chest and then acts cool as a cucumber when she runs into her non-dead victim in a board meeting? I love strong FMC and Evelyn does not disappoint. The storyline was great, if not slightly fantastical, but I loved every over the top minute of it! Lucius is part of the Acquisition series by Celia Aaron. I have never read any of them and I got along just fine, but I do believe it would have been more enjoyable if I had read the others first. There was just enough tidbits to “get it”, but I wish I had more backstory, so I’ll definitely be going back and reading the other stories. Hopefully, we’ll be getting the youngest brother’s story soon!

Lucius is perfection

I've hoped for this story ever since I read Celia Aaron's Acquisition series. Her world of dark romance is one I love to get lost in, and books like this are the reason why...
The Vinemont family makes my heart beat just a little faster. Sinclair is decadent and delicious, but Lucius is the kind of dangerous and arrogant anti-hero I can't get enough of. He's smoldering hot brutality with a dash of humor I thoroughly enjoyed. And best of all, he's the perfect match for Evie. She's sexy, strong-willed, and fierce, and I love how she kept Lucius on his toes the entire book.
This book was a one sitting read filled with violence, psychotic villains, family loyalty and love. It's a very welcome addition to this series, and I long for more! 4.5 stars

I've read the Acquisition series a few years back and I hoped Lucius would get his own story and it's finally here. I couldn't read this book fast enough, devoured it in one sitting. It was steamy, suspenseful, heart-gripping, and entertaining. The romance between Lucius and Evie is a delicious slow burn, and when they finally collide, the heat meter explodes. These two are a perfect match, both of them headstrong and determined to destroy their enemies at any cost. Told in dual POV, the story unfolds in a steady-paced, leaving room for character development. The plotline is intriguing enough to keep you on your toes, and the sexy scenes are over the charts hot. I loved being back in the Acquisition world and seeing again my favorite characters from the series. Here's hoping Teddy gets his own book too (*crossing fingers and toes*).

Our heroine is stalking a predator and she is no match. Only the hero, Lucius thinks she is a firecracker and falls in love! I was reading this book thinking I was missing something....that would be the three books preceding it. It wasn’t that bad though coz “the acquisition” is explained clear enough and whatever occurred previously was rehashed so I didn’t miss much.

The banter and self talk inside the hero’s head was entertaining and the simplistic relationship between the hero and heroine I was sold on...I mean she shoots him and then falls in love with him...she didn’t know he was wearing a vest she shot him! Yeah it started off with a bang for sure,🙃

I just finished rereading all the Acquisition Series before Lucius and I was reminded of how much I absolutely LOVED them. They were dark and twisted. They tested everything I had when I first read them and pushed some boundaries all over again the second time.

I went into Lucius knowing how dark it was going to be. I've been waiting for him and I was absolutely ready for this. And sadly, I was disappointed. It has an edge to it but it's nothing like the first three books. Lucius was the same sarcastic, dirty talking, lustful man from before, and I love everything about him. He's a take what he wants, don't ask permission, and kill anyone who tries to stop me type of main character, and he can absolutely be the main man in my life. But the execution of his story was nothing great and left me feeling unsatisfied. And you know Lucius doesn't leave his women unsatisfied. 😉

It's started off with a literal BANG (when the heroine point-blank shoots him!!!! OMG, NOOOO!!!) that had me all excited and quickly morphed into a "What the heck is happening!?" The story moved so fast and felt super rushed. At times I felt some major things were skipped that could have made this book just as good as the first three. The first three had descriptive scenes that played out like you were right there. You felt everything because the emotions were portrayed perfectly whereas this story felt like we were just being told the main parts. There weren't any real emotions. No sorrow. No real anger. The closest thing we get to some good, strong feelings is when Lucius comes to take care of Evie but doesn't sleep with her. He's just there with her. And, of course, when they are intimate later, it's wicked hot. And then all of a sudden it's at 85% and nothing really happened. Then...the end.

Come on. Drag it out a little more. Give us aaaaallll the feels like we know you can!

***I'm really hoping there's another book after this that continues with the Acquisition, since Sin is still Sovereign and all, and we can get some gaps filled in on the iPad hit list. And maybe get some Teddy action.

If you've read the phenomenal Acquisition series then you'll already be familiar with the middle Vinemont brother, love him or loathe him he would've left an impression. He certainly did on me and I've been so excited to finally read his story. ( This book can be read as a standalone.)

Lucius Vinemont is the ultimate Anti Hero....Dark, Dangerous and Deadly.
With a perverted, crude, intense, charismatic and witty personality he's completely loveable, and will happily tell you so himself. I completely agree with him and I'm convinced he could charm the knickers off a nun without even trying.

I absolutely loved Lucius and Evie's powerful enemies to lovers romance, it was full of scorching chemistry, dangerous attraction, vengeance, lust, love, hate and family bonds. The Vinemonts are a force of nature and I love how strong they are together.

The dark witty banter was hilarious, it's impossible not to laugh at Lucius he's just that arrogant, you can't hate him for it.
Every minute of their crazy journey was addictive and I loved them together.

I'm really hoping the youngest brother gets his own story too, Teddy is a sweetheart and although he's nothing like his big brothers I'm betting he's just as lethal when it comes to those he cares about, he's a Vinemont after all.

where do u even begin? i am trying to recall when i found Celia's books? it is like within my mind i have lots of books, but recalling the actually time or era i found a book is tough to recall. i love to tell the story that i had sort of gotten angry that in school yrs we were made to read (when will school understand that no all kids learn the same way or understand poetry the same, so allowing them to read what calls to them should deserve respect as well. i wonder?!) this or that. nowadays ... i read what i want to read. what genre i wish to. so i am constantly read and reading lots of different genres ... and often feel lines are blurred and well i love mysteries ... but to me .. i think a lot of books kind of are there in that genre even if Amazon or other sites don't think they should be put inside of that genre ... to Beth they are. 'nough said. lol!! any who ... i've enjoyed this series so so much. i want more. i know that probably for an author, that writing is probably a long lengthy process ... but for us readers ... we just want more. so thank you Celia for making this series continue. when u have time i hope to hear more ... i mean it is so easy to say that Teddy will be your fave brother??! but Lucius is so well interesting, evil and FUN!! Sin has lost a lot of his wildness in this read and i find that kind of odd. now i get that Stella is and has helped with but he is well, can i say it ...without ... well his side of the story is kind of flat. i wanted more ... he had more fire ...similar to Lucius. now i wonder will that happen to him as well?? guess we will wait til Teddy's read, huh??! i guess i could even say that before Stella for Sin's life was more exciting ... but the funny thing is i love Stella and her ways ... i wonder??!! now please understand ...that i would have change a bit of Sin's side of the story ...but i am not the writer ...so whatever ... would i read it again ... sure ... but i do wonder where Teddy's story will head? go? wonder if she will hit us upside the head with that one??! i wonder?? guess we will have to wait and see. i did have to buy this book ... it was NOT in KU ... so i often wonder if authors think about that ... there are very few authors i buy from ... i mean KU is NOT FREE (some of her books are in KU, not this one) ... like u might see out there in internet world ... you might buy a plan ahead of time and that fee carries on until it stops ...and u have to pay again .. never FREE ever. any who .. i have to be very careful with the money i spend ... we all have to watch our doe. i see several other of her books that i will just have to wait til i have extra again ... any who ... u make the decision. i enjoyed it. HEA ending ... made me smile. i don't think i revealed any secrets or spoilers whatever u might call them. lol! i was shocked to see this available to buy?? i think i was looking around Amazon one night and magically it said it was on PreOrder ... and that it would be about like in 2 or 3 days and i was like WHAT?? i guess i have been living under a rock ...because i didn't realize that Celia had written any new books. so i was so excited ... PreOrdered and was so happy when it arrived on my kindle. loved that!! awesome book cover. please read it. enjoy it.

Genre: dark romance, enemies to lovers, secret society

It is 5 years after the Vinmonts have taken down the Acquisition. But like any criminal organization, it doesn't just go away. Lucius and his family are still fighting them, trying to take down those who would start over.

A unfortunate victim of the Acquisition is Evie. If you recall, she was the youngest sister of Red Witherington. He was the sadistic b@st@rd who took pleasure in hurting his acquisition and Stella when he had the chance. She however, knew a different man. He was the only one in her family that tried to protect her. Evie is similar to Stella in this way. Stella had a father who did terrible things to other people, including her mother, but she loved him and hated him at the same time. Evie has these same kind of memories and feelings towards her brother.

She blames all the problems on the Vimonts, especially Lucius since she watch him murder her brother. She has plans for their livelihood and to kill Lucius. The emotional problem is similar to that of her brother. She has mixed feelings towards Lucius- she hates him and wants him at the same time. She fails in her attempt to eliminate Lucius and ultimately ends up back on the Acquisition's radar. The new "interim" Sovereign has plans for her which include his psycho cousin. They need to build the families of the Acquisition again, so what better way than to breed pure blood lines. It is obvious those that are left from the Acquisition are either followers or crazed lunatics. Either way, Evie is going to need Lucius to protect her.

Lucius and Evie have great chemistry, even if they did fall in love a little too quickly for my liking (I'm not a instalove kind of reader). The plot was well thought out and the action helped progress both the storyline and the relationship between Lucius and Evie.

The follow up books I would like to read are about the life of the other Acquisitions- Gavin and Brianne. I feel like Gavin would be  a stronger character and had some struggles but come out stronger for it. Whereas Brianne has probably headed down a pretty dark road and needs someone to help her. Can we get these stories soon Ms. Aaron? 😉

Lucius by Celia Aaron checked all the boxes necessary to make it an amazing dark romance
A twisted and violent yet swoonworthy antihero. An extremely fierce heroine with vulnerabilities. And their scorching hot chemistry born from lies, secrets, betrayal and vengeance.

Evie has been hurt by Lucius Vinemont, the middle brother years back when the Vinemonts took down the Acquisition, a corrupt and vile secret organisation. She lost her family. She built herself up again and now she is determined to take her revenge. By trying to take over the Vinemont's family business, Magnolia sugar. And may be killing him. Lucius is intrigued by this enigmatic woman and he needs to know everything about her. He wants to hurt her, protect her, own her...But the dangers are lurking in the corner.

This is my first read by Celia Aaron and I have heard a lot about her dark romance. So I was super excited to read it. It was not so much dark as I expected. Lucius has this perverse, explosive and dangerous personality but he also has this playful side that made me smile. His witty comments and banters are awesome. Evie was a very strong character! She has been heartbroken but she literally got up from the ashes. Her fearless personality and feral sex appeal was something lethal. The story has many twists and it will keep you on your toes. Old and new enemies are coming after them. And they have to face it together. The enemies to lovers deliciousness and sharpness was delivered very well. The love- hate- love part was on point. And so was the fiery chemistry. The falling in love part came a bit easily for my taste. Evie and Lucius have a past and those past memories had a hand in increasing the intensity of their feels. They went from trying to kill each other to killing other people for each other. I wouldn't mind to see a little bit more emotional build up before the happily ever after came.

If you love to read dark romance with antihero and strong heroine and lots of steamy passion, you should definitely try Lucius by Celia Aaron.

Lucius Vinemont ruined my life. It was a long time ago. It feels like yesterday. I haven't let it g, and I won't. Not until he's dead. Lucius is the bogeyman, the shadow under my bed, the nightmare that wakes me in my sleep. The funny part is that I used to think I loved him, in shades of girlish, foolish love. But then he killed the only thing I had left, and Lucius twisted the knife. It's when he does. And now, it's what I do. Once Lucius is gone, I'll be able to breath again, to live a life that isn't haunted. That's what I tell myself. But the closer I get to ending the nightmare, the more he gets under my skin. The more he makes me feel things I vowed to never fee, especially not for a man like him. Never for a monster like him. As it turns out, Lucius isn't the only monster from my past, he's just the one I can't shake. When you shoot a man through the heart, he's supposed to die. But Lucius Vinemont isn't a man. He's a monster that haunted my nightmare for the past five years.

I have to warn you that this is dark romance and it might hold some triggers for some people so you will want to proceed with caution. This is the story of Lucius and Evelyn and these two have a really dark history between them. These two have a special kind of hate between them but that just bring to life the fact that they have this really deep attraction for them. I loved Lucius. This is one dark and twisted man, that I still fell in love with while reading this story. This book is set in the Acquisition and if that doesn't ring a bell, don't worry there is no way you won't know what the relevance is of Lucius and Evelyn in this work as the author makes sure you know what it is and what's going on during the book. I loved that that was in there for us who are both familiar and those who are not. I would call this an enemies to lovers book and it is one heck of a ride that you need to experience from beginning to end and love just as much as I did. This is one twisted amazing book that kept me reading well into the night. I couldn't put it down.

Is shooting someone on the chest considered a meet-cute?

Well, for our two slightly unhinged couple Lucius Vinemont and Evelyn Delcroix, we'll make an exception.

Lucius' family owns one of the oldest sugar cane companies in Louisiana.. He is the chairman of Magnolia's board, which he manages along with his two brothers. He is also the enforcer when the Vinemonts need to play dirty. The book opens with Lucius doing what he does best.

Evelyn Delacroix is trying to get revenge on the Vinemonts, starting with a hostile takeover of Magnolia. But in order for her to get that done, she would have to deal with Lucius breathing down her neck and ghosts from her past catching up with her.

These two. Celia Aaron does a brilliant job of taking two people who could never ever get together given their circumstances. She slowly builds on the story, getting us readers to invest in their character development and -- most importantly -- their relationship.

I was concerned about getting a hero who had put himself and his family as the center of his universe and not developing his emotions enough that his connection with the heroine seemed forced and out-of-character, but Celia's slow build is so strategic.

I love my thriller romances set up like a chess match, and you can't help but cheer for Evelyn even though she started the game behind. Lucius is so conniving and always seems to be a couple steps ahead. As you watch them go from move to move, you eventually make a startling realization about how the game is really set up.

This was my first read of the Acquisition series (even though it is not the first book), but Celia does a great job of integrating details so it can serve as a standalone. I will be picking up the other books, though, based on how much I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
