Nicholas and Susannah met once when Susannah was still a child, then he was sent away to sea. Some time later, their fathers arranged a marriage between them, but the war prevented Nicholas' return, and then Susannah's father died and her stepmother moved the family (her two daughters and Susannah) to Liverpool, where Susannah is treated as a servant. When Nicholas is captured, all seems lost, but he still holds onto the hope of finding home and Susannah again at last. But even when he returns at last, there are still unexpected obstacles in the way. Will he and Susannah ever truly find home again?

This story felt a little unusual in that the main characters spent most of the book apart and with no way of knowing what whether the other was even still alive - and, though betrothed, they'd only met once. However, I felt like it worked well. In fact, I think this is my favourite so far of this series (though I admit to preferring the author's contemporary romances). All in all, an interesting story, with an unusual plot, some appropriately dastardly villains and a satisfying happily ever after.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

Finding Home was an excellent read from nine year old Susannah falling off a cliff and being rescued by teenaged Nicholas Pennington to Susannah returning to the majestic Muncaster as a ladies maid! I admired Susannah and her desire to do right even as she faces many difficulties after the death of her father. Nicholas showed himself to be an honorable man when his father took him to be an ordinary seaman. Nicholas became a hero in the Royal Navy but it was many years of hardship until he returned home to find an imposter in his home and Susannah working as a servant! I enjoyed this book by Candee Fick and recommend it to others. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.

My thoughts: if you like castles and historical romances set in ancient Great Britain then you would love the series. This newest book is more Irish for Scottish in tone. I don't understand the ancient language that's used in a song the author quoted which took away from the story some in my opinion, but otherwise it was cute and had tones of similarity with some of the other books in the series. I am looking forward to the next book in the series which is supposed to be a contemporary. Again, if you love castles and historical romances you will love the series. Check it out. I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

If you are a fan of inspirational, faith-based Regency romance, pick up a copy of Candee Fick's FINDING HOME and join Susannah and Nicholas on their love journey. Plot twists and turns, plus betrayal and greed on the part of those who would keep the the hero and heroine separated, make for a highly entertaining and uplifting story. Ms. Fick excels in bringing the era and region to life with deftly added historical details while telling the story of a love that that would not die.

New twists on Cinderella and a touch of The Prince and the Pauper. This is a love story that develops from a meeting as children to being separated for ten years. Both Susannah's and Nicholas' lives change drastically, but faith and hope keeps them moving forward. Is it too late for their happy ever after.

If you enjoy Regency era intrigue with fairy tale endings, you won’t want to miss Candee Fick’s Within the Castle Gates Series. Candee has the uncanny ability of creating memorable characters which makes the latest in this series, Finding Home, a must read. With Susannah and Nicholas, it’s more than a Cinderella story — it’s better. I can’t recommend this book enough!

Loved it!!! I thought it would be a Cinderella retelling (I get quite tired of those) but was I wrong (so happy). A first encounter that could have been tragic sets the stage for the next many many years. Susannah has such a sweet spirit and humble attitude especially given what she goes through with her delightful (so not) step mother. Nicholas also has a rather unpleasant relationship with his father. They both put their trust in the Lord and pray that all will be revealed. Loved the twists and turns. Great side characters. Amazing ending.
