He has tusks and a tail, and insists she's his fated mate. She's enticed, but determined not to get involved. Can a burly alien warrior and a single mom find love together on a planet far from Earth?
Garek: With my clan threatened, I don't have time for romance with a pesky Earth female. Until I meet Piper. She and her youngling son are part of our planet's new settlement. Soon, I find myself helping her plan her home and talking about odd Earthling activities. What is a square dance and must I do it? She's soft and lush in all the right places, and I could pick her up and carry her around with one arm. And her son... I ache to show him how to tame a mighty winged trundier. Piper may say she doesn't need love, but I'll do whatever it takes to win her heart.
Piper: I brought my eight-year-old son to Ferlaern to start anew--the new wild west, we're calling this planet. The other women want romance but not me. Then I meet Garek, a seven-foot-tall, gruff warrior who's out to steal my heart. Burned in the past, I'm afraid to trust. Never mind that he makes my son laugh for the first time in forever or that his kisses... Not going there. But when our settlement's attacked by vicious creatures, it'll take both of us to survive the threat.
ENTICED BY AN ALIEN WARLORD, the first full-length novel in the Fated Mates of the Ferlaern Warriors series by bestselling alien romance author Ava Ross. Each book in this series is a standalone romance with on-the-page heat, aliens who look and act alien, a guaranteed happily ever after, no cheating, and no cliffhanger.
AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

The Story: two years ago a disease swept across Earth which killed most of the men. The women tried to go on, until an alien race made first contact. They came in peace, exchanging goods and technology. It seems that much of their female population had been wiped out so matches were made and mail order brides were sent out. It worked well, so another race, called the Ferlaern approached Earth stating that if human females came to settle on their planet, be courted by their men and when matches were made, the women would be taken care of.
The Hero:Garek - he and other clan leaders were in charge of building the settlement for the human females. The humans were encouraged to settle in the mountain region, but they insisted on constructing homes in the low region where they would be vulnerable. He hoped that the women would be wise and settle in the Ferlaern communities.
The heroine:Piper - she arrived on Ferlaern with her young son Noah and was named the leader of the group of humans. Back on Earth she had been abused by her husband, but when he turned on their son, Piper finally went to the police, but her husband John got out of jail and wanted revenge. Piper escaped by going to Ferlaern.
The Ferlaern had something called maelstrom mates, which haven’t happened in many years since before their females started dying out. They can mate females, but the maelstrom bond was something special. Garek is a clan leader but was intent on becoming a full warlord. Though warlords can’t have a maelstrom mate. A leader is challenged each cycle for leadership where a warlord is leader for the rest of his life.
The story was better than I expected from some of the other reviews I read. It had some thrills and chills, dangerous aliens and creatures. There was action and adventure, which I like in an alien romance. The world building was pretty good as well. Though I did think it was pretty funny that the women wanted to build a new wild west but when another alien race raided their camp, they were ready to leave. Have they never seen a western movie with cowboys and indians?
This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and is narrated by Stephen Dexter and Felicity Munroe. These are both terrific narrators. Stephen has a deep, yet soft voice which is sexy and perfect for a tough male warlord. While Felicity has a clear feminine voice and she is great at expressing herself through her voice. She also does a kid’s voice very well.
2.5 I'm disappointed with this book. I was expecting something more profound or I don't know... not boring, but I didn't get the luxury.
1) Piper is a single mom, from there I was expecting something big, an super romance with lots of developments and cute bonding moments with the kid. Not happening. I received an annoying kid, super fast and terrible development of the romance, and the one character I was warming up turned out to be a kidnapper.
2) I'm not the best in history, at least the US history, but I'm pretty sure the "wild west" mission Piper talks about so fondly and wants to recreate in this new planet wasn't exactly a good thing, at least for the people who lived in the wild west before the expansion. So, with that in mind, I don't feel very comfortable with her saying she wants to create a "new wild west", of course, she only talks about square dances and karaoke, why would the white woman mind the genocide of the original folk in her previous country? Because the only thing in her mind is the alien's cock.
3) I don't think it was a good way to represent her trauma toward men, I mean she vowed to only be there for her son and distanced herself from any kind of romantic relationship. So, why in the next day was she already panting about Garek? Look, I'm trying to be fair here but I was kinda expecting something more Amanda Milo or even Victoria Aveline.
4) Piper didn't expend much (written) time with her son, who is the sole purpose she's in an alien planet, to begin with, I found it a little annoying her passing the kid around and only focusing on the alien warlord. Which means she bonded more with his pet than with her son.
5) My last point about the story is: Piper's intern monologue was extremely stupid and annoying. I couldn't believe she was thinking that way. "Oh my gosh, this big burly alien warlord is mine! Wait! Did I just say he is mine? Shut up brain, now is not the time, [insert some random situation in which she has no reason to be thinking about the fucking alien being hers]"
Anyway, this was wildly boring and dumb. I won't read the next one or even finish the series but I was kinda curious about the next book and the shy alien. That's it, bye.

Should I read in order? This is the first book of Ross’s Fated Mates of the Ferlaern Warriors series.
Basic plot: Piper has left Earth, and a violent ex, behind. Hoping to start a new life with her 8 year old son, she opts to go to a settlement on another
Give this a try if you want: - Fated mates (instalove on the hero’s part) - Children in the story – heroine has an 8 year old son, and all the women in their small group have children - Alien hero/human heroine pairing - Hero is a Ferlaern warrior – tusks (they are pinky sized and come out of their bottom jaw), a tail (long and slender with a rounded rubbery tip), and bronze skin. They also have 2 hearts, one that only beats when they find their mates. This particular hero has shoulder length black hair with purple bands. - Huge hero, tiny heroine – heroine only comes to mid chest - Small touch of language barrier – the translator works mostly, but some words are misinterpreted - Medium steam – 3 full scenes (at least – I could be off – I admit I get lazy with audio) but they are pretty close together in the book
My thoughts: We enter this book finding out a disease has wiped out most adult men on Earth. Contact has been made with peaceful aliens and treaties are performed. Colonies are started on other planets, translators installed for those that travel. Aliens that lacked women proposed matches. And the warriors of Ferlaern want wives as well.
Here is our offer. Settle on Ferlaern and we will court you. Seduce you. Win you. When matches are made we will provide for you and our young.
Overall, I thought this one was decent. I think when I read the line quoted above, I was really eager for the hero the be all in from the beginning. But this hero isn’t looking for a mate and tries not to be interested at first. I did really like Garek. He’s protective and sweet and I loved how he loves Piper’s son immediately. I’m not sure how I feel about tusks so I might have imagined those weren’t there most of the time lol.
I overall liked Piper too. She’s recovering from a bad relationship and hesitant to open up to someone else. I think Piper and Garek are perfect for each other.
There were a couple things that brought this book down for me. Number 1 was the kids. I’m not sure if it was just the narration, but they were super annoying, especially the heroine’s son. He just sounded super whiny all the time and it basically drove me nuts every scene he was in. Also, Piper really wanted to recreate a Wild West kind of thing with their village? It just seemed really strange to focus on. And this is probably just my general dislike of Western romance that colored that but I was not interested in any way anything to do with Wild West and an alien romance wasn’t where I thought I would find it. Luckily the goal seemed to be abandoned halfway through the story or so. I think I just wanted some more world building than what happened here. There's scenes of danger, clan disagreements, clan politics but I wanted to know a bit more about the planet/how the humans came to be there. I had a couple questions left unanswered but they might be addressed in later books in the series.
So, I would consider reading this author again. I would not reread this particular one. I would consider reading more from the series but it’s not at the top of my list. Loved the male narrator's deep voice. The female narrator did great too. My only complaint is the kid voices.
Cock Stats: (There are probably spelling errors here as I listened to the audio and have no idea how to spell anything haha)
Content warnings:
Locations of kisses/intimate scenes: (Some of my chapters might be weird as my audio seemed to be off what was listed, like mine might be 2 chapters ahead of what is actually printed in the book. Also take this as minimum steam because I got lazy with my note taking about halfway through and it’s possible I missed some things!)
Piper is a single mom from Earth just trying to start over with her son, Noah. Garek is the lead of his clan and in charge of helping the Earth women build a new home.. which is threatened the very first night.
I loved the relationship between Piper and Garek but especially Noah and Garek. They all needed each other, they just didn’t know it.
This was a really fun read! While this is a bit of an insta-love story, with their romance progressing greatly in the span of 24 hours, it was still riddled with plenty of warm-hearted and humorous moments. It’s hard not to love Garek, as his love and devotion to Piper and her son, Noah, is shown not only in his thoughts but also all of his actions. There are quite a few scenes where Piper will mention something in passing, and Garek will go out of his way to make that thing happen or appear, simply because he wants her to be happy.
Such as the Karaoke scene.
Trust me, you don’t wanna miss out on this. I thought I would die, it was so humorously sweet.
Piper is an engaging heroine, having chosen to move to an alien planet with her son in the hopes of fleeing from her abusive ex-husband. She wasn’t looking for a partner and yet she couldn’t help but be drawn to Garek. I can’t say I blame her!
Piper's willingness to face down anything to protect her son, including a giant hornet, along with her tendency to sass and tease Garek, makes her a fun and compelling character.
I enjoyed the natural world building that took place through-out the book, with Ross giving just enough information to make me want to learn more. I am excited to see what is in store for the rest of the series!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another fantastic story by this author! I love how we got to watch Piper’s transition throughout the book, and who wouldn’t fall for a guy who is willing to give it all up for his one true love. These two are an amazing couple and I enjoyed every minute of their courtship. The author kept the excitement high with a brand new world and a betrayal we never saw coming. This book is the perfect series starter and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
A bunch of single moms take their kids to go live on an alien planet.
This where me going in blind to a book isn’t good. I didn’t vibe with the single moms, overly protectively, and I’m still healing from my abusive ex type of trope worked for me.
This could be someone five star review. But I won’t be fine.
The ONLY reason I didn’t DNF was bc I wanted to hear Stephen Dexter and Felicity Munroe narrate…and bc I used a credit.
FYI- the kid gets kidnap for like 5 mins around 90% in the book so if that may be triggering for you. Maybe skip this one.
I won’t be reading the rest of the series bc the single mom trope isn’t for me. The story was OK. Very cheesy. A lot of internal dialogue about leaving her ex and his abuse.
Idk. Maybe kids on an alien planet?? That’s not for me.
I thought this had a really strong start. I sympathised with Piper. A single mother, divorced and battling with demons from a life filled with domestic violence. She packed up her entire life and joined a settlement on a distant planet. When she met Garek she’s wary. She had come to this planet to run away, not find a mate.
Their interactions at first were full of sweetness. It was cute. But once they crossed the line together I was skimming.
I really enjoy a good sci-fi book, and I love fated mates, so this book super appealed to me. I have to say from the very beginning this book was definitely pretty predictable. I did think the world building was pretty decent, definitely an interesting set up, living in trees. Our Hero, Garek, is about to become a full blown warlord at the beginning of the book, and it’s made very clear that he can’t be a warlord and have a maelstrom mate, so right off the bat I figured that’s where this book was going, conflict wise. I thought Garek was a pretty good character, he’s clearly a nice guy, well respected, protective, basically everything you could ask for in an alien mate. Our heroine, Piper, is basically on the run, avoided her abusive ex, to save herself and her son from him. So she isn’t really looking for love. I didn’t really have strong feelings about her one way or the other, I will say I thought it was kind of silly how obsessed she was with the wild west idea, especially since you’re on an alien planet, like why not go with what they already know works on the planet they live on? She is a good mother though. I really did enjoy basically all the interactions with her son, both between her and her son and the way Garek was with him. It’s easy to see them becoming a family, and I have to say I really liked how Garek never saw him as another but his, it didn’t matter that he was fully human. It was a quick read for me, nothing overly deep, like I said kind of predictable, if you are looking for a quick read this might work for you. It’s not a re-read book for me though.
There were too many things, questions, that weren’t explained or answered. Why would humans go to a new planet, with the intent of meeting, mingling and mating the people that already lived there and not ask for advice about where to build a settlement? Or what hazards there were? Or what the native’s lives were like? What their traditions were? Why the heck was the female MC so obsessed with square dancing and building a Wild West town? Why did Earth and the other ladies agree to building a new Wild West??? Why did the f MC act like there was never a thought that they might have to adapt to the planet rather than it adapting for them?? I don’t know and to be honest the questions kinda annoy me and I don’t care enough to see if they are answered in later books.
This was just ok. I wasn’t wowed. The relationship was fast much faster then I think it should. I didn’t understand why Earth insisted they build in that location on an alien planet when they came their to meet men and start a new. I thought the women should have joined the claim and learned about the aliens and their ways. It was an odd plot option for me. It’s nice to have kids. I liked them all. Other characters are ok. It was some new to pass the time. Hopefully more development in the next book.
Hmm. I liked it. I think. There were equal parts of this that were sweet and sexy, and some that were a bit cringey. Piper had some pretty silly ideas in her head but she meant well. I'll probably read the next book as Durann seems like a good guy.
I must say that I really enjoyed this series! Garek and Piper had a wonderful tale! I must admit, I did not like Noah that much. He was too over enthusiastic and overbearing and as the reader I was just exhausted and overwhelmed by his character. He came on way too strongly and fast. His whining, and hero worship of Garek kind of rattled my nerves as well. He kind of totally disrespected and disregarded his mom at times and that was annoying and frustrating. That out of the way I was disappointed in Meriwee’s character. I truly loved her and Skydar was quite the annoyance as well. I kind of knew something was up when he vanished from the story and we kept seeing his sister. I knew something was afoot. Besides the silliness I truly loved this story. The romance was on point! The chemistry between Piper and Garek was sizzling hot! I’m so glad Ava didn’t take these women being in the wild to the extreme like in past books. It was just the right amount of action to love ratio that kept this book well in balance. I had a huge smile on my face as I read the book and I cannot wait to read Rayne and Durran’s book! This story seems to have a lot of interesting women with a lot of kids at varying ages, I can’t wait to see how the author handles this. I’m so happy the humans didn’t put up a fight and give more grief when it was time to bail on their original plans once they saw the dangers and stupidity in staying. The guys were truly days away, that’s insane! Leaving these women and kids alone on the prairie days away from support was just 🍌🍌. This series shows a lot of promise. I hope Ava keeps this pace and this flow going. I look forward to the other books. 5 cosmic stars and 2 twinkling stars from me! It was good!! 💥💥💥💥💥 ✨✨
Piper’s a fierce single mum chasing a Wild West dream on an alien planet. Garek’s all 7ft of warlord hunk who’d move mountains for his people. Fate pairs them up, sparks fly and the slow burn turns into a full blown heatwave.
I’m all about that spice life, so it could’ve run a little hotter but between his heart, his tail and that very impressive… equipment, things definitely got fun.
Loved the world building and yeah, the giant wasps. Never thought I’d say that 👀 The plot takes a quick sprint mid-book, but just roll with it. It finishes strong.
Piper escapes Earth to protect her son from an abusive ex. And Garek must make a choice between leading his people or following his second heart. A fated mates romance with a splash of spice. The romance is sweet as Piper discovers this new world and opens her own heart to love.
I can't pinpoint exactly what didn't work, because it was all FINE. The writing. The characters. Whatever. But I just didn't... like it. I didn't care about the characters or their relationship, the alien species, the history of their planet.
Loved this book. Wonderful start to a new series. Has all the feels, good world building and strong characters. Ava Ross never fails to bring it with her books.
Did anyone else notice that animal went from not eating meat to eating it. How does that work? This played through my mind the whole book so I couldn’t get back into it. It was ok though
Enticed by an Alien Warlord by Ava Ross is a decent sci-fi read with an appealing premise of fated mates and a unique tree-dwelling world. However, the predictability of the plot was evident from the start, focusing on the conflict between Garek's warlord status and his potential maelstrom mate. Garek is a likable character with admirable traits, while Piper, the heroine, didn't evoke strong feelings. The wild west theme on an alien planet felt a bit incongruous, though Piper's dedication as a mother was commendable. The interactions with her son and Garek were highlights, portraying a potential family dynamic. While it's a quick and easy read, the lack of depth and predictability make it a one-time experience, not a re-read for me, earning it a three-star rating.
Earth women and aliens. The women find new worlds—the men find mates they never thought they would find.
There is action, suspense and tension as these women navigate their newfound lives. Emotions run high as they confront their circumstances, dealing with the conflicting feelings of fear, hope, and longing. The presence of strong alpha males adds another layer, as they vie for the attention of these Earth women, leading to moments of romance and interesting encounters.
Amidst the challenges, there’s also an undercurrent of playful interactions, as the women learn to assert their own identities and desires in this strange new world. Overall, it’s a captivating blend of love, action, and adventure that keeps you engaged from beginning to end.
New story and series. Loved the characters, their strength over changes in their lives. Ava and her son Noah, flee to an exchange program that takes her away from her nasty X. She meets Garek, a leader and along with his men, protectors of the human women and children. Ava slowly accepts Garek as he gently eases under her skin. They bond but still face threats against lives and a potential new settlement. Ava grows and realizes that life can be great for herself and her son. Garek turns into a great warrior and in many respects, leads the way for positive change, for his people. There will be more pairings, you just know it and I for one, cannot wait to read more.
First sci-fi romance I have read where the woman is not kidnapped by aliens.
Piper agrees to be a part of this program that settles humans in an alien planet in need of women. There, she meets Garek, the leader of the alien tribe, and sparks start to fly. But she is coming out of an abusive relationship and has to take care of her son and Grarek can't have a mate if he wants to be leader and he can't leave his people in bad hands. But it's too late for both of them, because want it or not, they are fated mates.

Don't get me wrong, the book was good, but not that much. The dragon things were a good touch but I think I just prefer sci-fi romances where the aliens have a more futuristic society, sorryyyy. But if you liked Ice Planet Barbarians, you will definitely love this one.
On the positive side I did finish reading the book, barely. On the negative side - way too much - unbelievable characters, a nonsensical unbelievable world, plot not terrible, but also not good.
***Spoiler Alert**** The intro clearly says that humans received a message from the aliens. How is that possible if their culture doesn’t even have electricity? The duskhorde are another alien race who are smart enough for space travel to that planet, but they have no technology?? Phobias are not something one simply ‘gets over’ that quickly - it contributed to unbelievably of character. Similarly overcoming a abusive past not something one gets over overnight.
I was recommended this after reading some of Ruby Dixon’s ice barbarians books. I was looking for another good alien romance book and I was really looking forward to this. However it was so disappointing. The female main character has previously been in an abusive relationship and is reluctant to be with another man. However the Econ’s she meets the male main character she falls for him instantly. I didn’t like either character nor the storyline. I read 75 % before I gave up, so I do think that I gave it a fair shot.
The Ferlaern, a noble race of hunters, warriors, and riders of mighty, winged trendier, sent a message to Earth asking for interested women to come to their planet. Earth had lost almost all of the men and this gave women another chance for protection and family. Piper Cushing was one who chose to go there, to get her son away from his abusive father she had turned in to the police. Garek was pleased when he met her and her 8-year-old son whom he could teach to ride the trendier. There are some cultural differences to learn about, but Garek is beginning to change his mind and wonder about how to win her heart.
Piper had thought she didn’t want romance. But the huge warrior immediately got her attention. Now she just needs to learn to trust him. Each event that happened, she related back to her abusive ex-husband, not considering these aliens were not at all like that. When Noah, her son, had tried to pet Garek’s flying trendier (like a giant wasp), she freaked out and tried to throw a rock at the creature. Garek stepped in and the beast calmed right down. As Garek walked toward her, she was sure he would verbally abuse her like John always had. Instead he reassured her the creature would never hurt her son. Then he shook hands with Noah and introduced himself. Noah had immediate hero-worship in his eyes. And the more she was around Garek, the more she liked what she saw.
As for Garek, who previously focused only on his future, was coming to a conclusion. He still needed to bond with a powldron; had to solidify his warlord status with my clan; had to drive back the dangerous duskhorde if they attacked. Yet when he looked at Piper who was blushing furiously, all he could think about was mating. If she could only trust him, would she reconsider becoming his mate?
This is such a good story line. Piper will indeed get to see Garek in action when the duskhorde attack. And he has already seen the strength of a mother protecting her young. Will the two of them be a formidable team to fight off the vicious beasts together? Will that be what it takes to convince them that they are made for each other?
