Stand Alone Tales #18

Unexpected Sting

Rate this book
Orion and the scorpion is a story everyone knows, but Stinger has no interest in killing the man who helps her manage a wave of lust. He might be just what she’s looking for. Stinger is back in town for a family wedding and then another. Being in a family that is predominantly female has its challenges, and one of those is the wedding and baby shower season. After being kidnapped the night before Nessa’s wedding, Stinger finds herself facing a familiar face and a body she wants to know better. Arthur is a charming man who is carrying out the dark elf wedding tradition, separating the bride from her ladies and the ladies from the bride. They get along well during their first interaction, which comes in handy when she needs to ask him for help the next day. Stinger and her mother control and disperse the lust and magic generated at mage weddings, keeping it from making a hotspot of lust and fertility in random areas. Stinger needs an anchor point, and she chooses Arthur Orion. He agrees to help, and fate locks them together. When she looks at him, she sees a future, but when she looks at her mother, she sees that men don’t stay, so she has a decision to make—trust everything she has learned about the male of the species while working with women’s shelters, or trust her gut. If only she had known that he was a real ogre, she might have had a second thought or a first one.

Loved Stinger and her Ogre

Stiila "Stinger" Roson is in town for a cousin wedding, when another cousin finds her mates and sealing their bond takes priority. In the dark fae court tradition, Stinger is kidnapped by a blond mage who is built like a linebacker.
Stinger, like her cousin Nessa, is unique, she is more than just mage born. Her unknown father, gifted her with his monster abilities.
Arthur Orion and his Ogre are in agreement, Stinger is their mate. If he has to agree to a breeding contract to lay claim to her, he can only hope he can convince her he want mate and not just a breeder.
When Stinger learns her her father is, she learns her father's people and Arthur's have been enemies for centuries. Arthur and his Ogre aren't going to let that get in the way of claiming Stinger as theirs.
Sweet and steamy play on the tale of Orion and the Scorpion. Loved the addition of the Japanese Oni woven in. Loved ho this story had ties to books 14,15,16, and 17.

Monsters are delightful

Another wonderful story about life, love and making it work. Stiila has a rough start in life, but grows to be a strong independent woman. Arthur has been on the periphery of her life and finally the two halves meet and become a beautiful whole. Nana Baker gets her way too.

Nice and fun . Quick read while on my lunch break . Would definitely recommend this book despite the short book , had a lot of action . Nice happy ending with no cliff hanger .

I just DON'T like how the story alway cuts out mid-thought. Its a GREAT story. But i FEEL it's incomplete

One month and another read later, this is still very confusing. I previously said breadcrumbs were left for the reader to figure it out, but that was much too generous. The characters literally refer to the myth that is driving their actions as if it has been explained in a prologue or to another character, but the reader truly has no idea what's going on. There's also a really violent sexual moment between H/h that left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Perhaps my least favorite of the standalone tales so far, but still rereadable.

Watch out for this one!

Stinger vs a half giant/mage, and then let the fun begin. Putting a changeling into a young woman and giving her protective instincts makes for interesting reading!
