Immortals of the Apocalypse #0.6

The Curious Soul of Nimue Fairchild

Rate this book
I know what you see when you look at me. A child. You want to deny it. After all, how can a child, even one endowed with such powers, commit such atrocities? Wanton murder. Exquisite terror.

You wonder how long has she been trapped in this body that doesn’t reflect her true nature? Surely such a prison would turn anyone insane.

But I tell you, I am not mad. I am not unwell. And I am not deserving nor desiring of your pity. Save it for the real children.

I will say, however, that I was not always like this, so if you allow it, I will take you back to the beginning, or part of it. We don’t have all night, even if we have eternity.

Nimue Fairchild was eleven years old when her maker turned her into an immortal soul-eater. Abandoned and trapped in her child’s body, she has searched for almost half a century for answers to settle her uneasy soul.

When she learns of the existence of a killer of her kind, she draws him to her in promise of forming an alliance. But in twisting his mission to her aims, she must hope that the secret pain of his past is enough to keep her safe.

The Curious Soul of Nimue Fairchild is a 25,000-word prequel to the Immortals of the Apocalypse trilogy, available only to subscribers of Daniel de Lorne’s newsletter.

Daniel de Lorne writes about men, monsters and magic.

In love with writing since he wrote a story about a talking tree at age six, his first novel, the romantic horror Beckoning Blood, was published in 2014. At the heart of every book is a romance between two men, whether they’re irresistible vampires, historical hotties, or professional paramours.

If you take your LGBT romance fiction with supernatural, urban fantasy or contemporary flavoring, Daniel de Lorne delivers.

In his other life, Daniel is a professional writer and researcher in Perth, Australia, with a love of history and nature. All of which makes for great story fodder.

And when he’s not working, he and his husband explore as much of this amazing world as they can, from the ruins of Welsh abbeys to trekking famous routes and swimming with whales.

An immortal trapped in a child’s body

As a prequel to the Immortals of the Apocalypse trilogy, it’s appropriately written in the style suited to the 1700’s, since it’s set some 300 years before the apocalypse. It’s the backstory of who Nimue is, how she came to be, and her relationship with Emrys. Pleased I read this after the main trilogy and not before.
