A young dragon mage with raw, untamed power. A trapped sea dragon that only he can free. And a vindictive trainer ruthlessly plotting to kill him. Giddi, a powerful young mage, can mind-meld with dragons at will, making him the only dragon mage in Dragons’ Realm. If he wasn’t so brash and impulsive, he might amount to something. It would help if his missing father could train him.
Instead, he’s stuck with Starrus—the sole mage who knows his father’s whereabouts. But his arrogant trainer wants him dead.
As if Giddi fighting fearless pirates, freeing a sea dragon and battling a kraken isn’t enough, Starrus abandons him in the hot desert sands of the Wastelands, leaving him as carrion for the Robandi Silent Assassins…
By the dragon gods! How will he survive? Will he find his father? Or will he die trying?

You will not be disappointed!
Dragon Mage begins where Anakisha's Dragon left off, only instead of following Anakisha and Will, we now follow Anakisha and Giddi, a young Dragon Mage with exceptional power but not enough control. I actually preferred this dual character split to the last novel; I found myself growing tired of Will's tale in the last novel, whereas Giddi's challenges caught my interest and never lost me.
It therefore really worked for me that Giddi took the centre stage here as he struggles to learn control under the tutelage of his cruel and jealous Master, Starros. Anakisha's story is still very much central to the tale, but it does take somewhat of a backseat to the roller-coaster of emotions that poor Giddi will take you through.
The split perspectives worked well, utilising Anakisha's growth in confidence as the new Queen's Rider alongside what is a tumultuous coming of age tale for Giddi, who faces challenges, hardship, betrayal and grief.
All in all, a fantastic second book to this prequel series and I'm certainly expecting to continue on to the next.
Once again Eileen has given us a fantastic tale steeped in history of one of her main characters from the original Riders of Fire series, Giddi. In this book, we are taken back to Giddi as a teenager, full of raw talent in desperate need of taming. He has his own side mission in discovering the whereabouts of his long lost father while under the *tutelage* of Starrus, who is less than the trainer he should be.
While the main story arc is based around Giddi and his journey, we also get to read a bit more of Anakisha and Yanir's story too, which helps to round out the general history of the series.
A fast paced page turner, this is definitely another installment you don't want to miss out on! #iwanttobearider #dragoncookies!
This book is an amazing follow-up to Anakisha's Dragon! It follows Giddi, the first Dragon Mage in many years (he can mind-meld with all dragons...how cool is that?), as he tries to survive his training with Starrus (the creep!). He sticks with Starrus because of a promise to tell him where his father is...and that doesn't work out as he hoped. It also flips back and forth with the story of Anakisha and Yanir, who are experiencing the trials and tribulations of learning (Anakisha has a lot to learn about ruling the realm with Yanir, Zaarusha and Syan) and falling in love. It's a real page-turner. I was captivated from page 1, and I love the main characters (especially Giddi). His growth is slow but I'm sure he has great things in store for him in the future.
I think this book had the potential to be a very good book. However there were quite a few grammar mistakes that I noticed while reading this book. There were also points in the book where I found myself confused at what was happening. I do think overall this was a decent story line with just a good few mistakes. I personally don't think that I would read this book again because I did get a little bit frustrated with the grammar at times. I also think that it was a little fast paced and could've been slowed down while adding more details to what was happening and to the setting. I wouldn't dissuade others from reading it because they might enjoy it, though I would warn about the grammar and pace. I think it was an ok read, but I won't be reading it again.
I loved being able to learn more about Giddi, even though most of his story was so incredibly sad. I missed having Anakisha as the major voice in the story, but her training and growth were still present.
Not having read the series that these are a prequel to has become more obvious. And hopefully I have a chance to get to the original series before the next book comes out. I feel like knowing where these characters are going to end up would add a lot more to full understanding, even though the books have been plenty good without the missing knowledge.
Giddi lost his mother when he was 11 years old her dying words were for him to find his father. His fa-ther had sent him a note that he wanted Starrus to train him to be a mage. He and Starrus were sent to Naobia to find a wind mage that he had kidnapped and was forcing to work for him. Starrus kept trying to kill Giddi for reasons not yet known. Ms. Mueller has written another excellent book that I couldn't put down and thoroughly enjoyed. I like experiences that Giddi had with dragons and the dragons themselves. I highly recommend that you read this book...
Dragon Mage begins where Anakisha's Dragon left off, following Anakisha and Giddi, a young Dragon Mage with exceptional power but not enough control. As Giddi tries to learn magic from his useless, jealous and cruel master Starris he meets and befriends the Queen of the Water Dragons and a group of assassins. He stays a kind, thoughtful person throughout all of his troubles. Anakisha is learning to be a queen rider and put the problems of her past behind her as is Yanir. A great follow up to the first book. Excellent read.
If you love dragons, you need to read the Riders of Fire Dragon Master series by Eileen Mueller. Dragon Mage is the second book in the series and it does not disappoint. It draws you in right away so that you feel as if you are with the dragons and human characters. There are all kinds of twists to the story that will keep you turning the pages. Once you finish this series, you will want to read the next series Riders of Fire.
I absolutely loved this next book in the series! I read Anakisha’s Dragon and a couple of others of Eileen’s books last year and regret that I left it so long to read more! I just love Eileen’s world building and her characters are sublime. Her passion for dragons really shines through in her writing too. Giddi is one of my favourite characters of hers, and I loved learning more about him and seeing him flourish and grow. As I’m sure we’re supposed to, I really despise Starrus for the way he treats Giddi and I was glad to see him get his comeuppance! I hope he suffers for the rest of his life, and I’m not normally a grudge holder! I love that we met some new dragons and riders in this book too and look forward to reading more about them and their journeys, as well as The Scarlet Hand in Dragon Pirate!
In the second volume of Dragon Realm's history, we learn more about the king and queen of dragons riders as well as more about other dragons and various mages. We see self doubts limit the successes of individuals. We read the consequences of mistreatment and of insufficient self control . If you have enjoyed the novels and shorter stores available to date then you should definitely enjoy the stories told here.
Wonderful, Dangerous, Adventure! This book continues the exciting experiences of Giddi, Anakisha and Yani. In this easy to read, unpredictable story see how these three wonderful characters grow their different skills by the challenges they face. Looking forward to many more adventures from this world. Enjoyable for all ages.
I loved this book..Eileen has really brought Master Giddy to life for me..I learned so much about him before he became Master Mage..riders of fire and these prequel series are so well written and characters that are well developed..really gets you invested in them..you care about them..I hope Eileen keeps writing for a long time!
Video is 12 when he sets out with Starrus to find the captive of the Red Hand pirate. Statues is a smarmy vicious, man who uses Giddy badly instead of training him. Their adventures fill this book well and keep you turning the pages. It left me wanting to read more.
Only complaint to short. Lots of action and adventure.
A story of a young boy,12-13 coming into manhood, training under a Master Mage's cruelty, fighting to stay alive, long enough to find his father. A great storyline, leading into a great series. Will hold your attention start to finish.
I find it interesting that the story that Eileen crafts I in her books are tagged as young reader material. So I must be the oldest kid reading her great books at 73!
I love this series and Riders of Fire. I love meeting new characters and new dragons and still characters from Riders of Fire. Can't wait for the next book in this series 😍
But the only reason is that it's written for the teen audience. There is nothing wrong with a good love story but I swear I was never as whiney as these are. Must be the new generation! Dragons and teenagers with magic.
Good strong characters with enticing world building. Lots of bullies, which is realistic. I loved how our heroes and heroine dealt with them and every obstacle they faced. Slow burn romance.
Dragon mage riders of fire dragon masters book two
I cannot get enough. I read until my tablet shuts down. I love getting to know each character. If you love to read please treat yourself to this series.
Continuing from the first book, this one did a fantastic job at moving the story and plot! The characters were still great and enjoyable! I'm invested to keep reading and find out what happens next!
Great tale to tell the backstory of Giddi and Starrus. I can’t believe they were as friendly as depicted in later books. Considering what Starrus put Giddi through.
Well done Giddi's life has grown more complicated in this book. For someone just turned thirteen he is having a rough time but also makes choices that seem so very wise.
Even though this is pure fantasy, the message resonates with me, how true it is that perceptions are what people base their "truth" on. I was so glad to see that slimy Justan got what he deserved! Now that Anakisha is the Dragon Queen rider, she is tasked with protecting the kingdom and it's people and together with the green guard, Anakisha, Yanir and Giddi, send the vile Starrus, are on the hunt to find and capture the illusive Captain Scarlet Hand. I must make mention of the absolutely amazing dragons! Syan, Zaarusha, Kevin are a delightful, from their non judgemental acceptance of their riders, their encouragement, to their snarky remarks. Their "communication" with their riders is at times hilarious. In the previous book, my heart went out to Will, this book focuses more on Giddi, his well meaning impetuous behaviour, whilst all the while trying to keep his cruel trainer, Starrus, at bay. Giddi's actions have dire consequences and he struggles with his conscience. At times, this tale takes on such a dangerous turn, that I turn the pages avidly to see who will prevail, never knowing for certain. And what a tease Eileen is! Just as my heart is in my throat at the happenings in the arena, she flits to a more calming scene! Wonderful suspension, whilst giving me a moment to recover and draw a breath! I loved finding out more about Giddi and all the incredible challenges he faced, whilst still managing to keep his integrity intact. He is a truely wonderful character, so well balanced, the total antithesis to the despicable Starrus. The storyline flips from Anakisha and Yanir to Giddi and Starrus, their adventures and escapades separate yet tie together in a magnificent story! Loved it, loved it, loved it!
