Highlander Pledged Stolen Hearts # 3.5 Jayne Castel ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Robina Oliphant has never been loved and her wishes have never been considered by others before, so she isn't really surprised when her father marries her off to the Cheif of Clan Gunn in order to secure a political alliance. Of course she will do her duty, but underneath her meek facade, she is absolutely furious with her family. She can't believe that fate has let her down once again.
Tavish Gunn has one heck of a reputation to uphold and that's no easy feat. He's now head of one of the Highland's most feared clans, and with four younger brothers just waiting to get his title and position, he can't ever let his guard down nor show the slightest sign of weakness.
But Tavish has wanted Robina for years so it's no hardship for him to marry her. The only thing is his new bride is not who he thought she was. This lass has spirit and fire in her. Now he has to convince her that he fully intends to honor their marriage vows which are to love, protect, and cherish her. This is not a promise made lightly this is a promise made for life.
Jayne Castel is truly a brilliant writer. She always seems to know exactly what her readers need. She brings us a tender tale of two people who have to learn to love and trust eachother. Tavish is such a good man, but because he is a Gunn he was not taught to show his emotions at all and he has to sort through his feelings and learn that showing love does not mean you are weak. Robina has literally been starved for love her whole life. She has been told horrible lies from her Mother and believes that all men are basically beasts. She now has to learn not only what it is to love, but to trust her husband with her tender heart. All in all this was such a lovely and enjoyable read that I think I will have to go back and re read it next year over the holidays. Ms. Castel you wrote another incredible story and I can't wait to see what you have for us readers next.
This was a great novella related to the Stolen Highland Hearts series. I'm really glad we got Tavish and Robina's story. It was just a really sweet romance, especially with it being a pretty short read. I might not be opposed to a series about the rest of the Gunn brothers. Just saying!
Two very different people, who have very different ideas of how their marriage should go… She is naive, innocent, bitter, the other is finally getting what he wanted, but not what he expected and a bit closed off. They have to put their differences aside, meet in the middle and avoid danger…. If they want to make it work! Very lovely, blush worthy story!

I have to say this last book was a surprise! After reading about the Gunn Clan Chief in all the other books, his son, Tavish turned out to be a real show-stopper with an actual heart. Who knew a Gunn could be so sweet and protective of a woman? This book was definitely worth the read, you won't want to miss it!

Tavish Gunn had wanted his brother’s fiancé Robina Oliphant, since the day he first laid his eyes on this bonnie lass four long years ago. He was finally going to get his wish come true. As Alexander, his elder brother stepped down from being his father’s heir to marry the woman he loved, Jamie MacKay. Alexander never wanted Robina thinking her nothing more than a meek mouse. Yet this shy, reserved, lass was exactly what Tavish desired. Except now that he was the new heir, his harsh and cruel father refused him to allow him to have the only woman he wanted to wed! On top of that all his four younger brothers Roy, Blaine, Evan and Will all wanted his position, but it was Roy who was the most wicked of the bunch who wanted it the most. He was an exact copy of their brutal and black hearted father, George Gunn. So Tavish had to watch his back constantly plus wait until his father died to make his wish come true and make Robina his bride.
The problem is Robina barely remembers Tavish Gunn, the new Laird, who soon would lbe her husband. Plus the last thing she wants to do is to marry Tavish or anyone else from the Gunn clan! They all terrified her! She even begged her father to allow her to join an abbey to become a nun, which he absolutely refused. He claimed her duty was to make a strong alliance through marriage, as that was a privilege after-all to strengthen their clan! In her mind Ramsay Oliphant was finally getting what he always wanted: uniting with the Gunn Clan as he desperately desired a piece of their land for his new sheep. On top of this her mother had always been cruel to her, as if she was her competition not her loving daughter! Both her parents didn’t seem to have any maternal feelings for their daughter Robina and used her like an animal to the highest bidder. The only thing that gives Robina comfort is animals-especially her two goshawk’s Moth and Thistle, she had raised since they were born.
So Tavish will soon have a wife that both despises and fears him. How will he handle and overcome this? The one thing they do have in common is love for animals especially hawking. Yet even Tavish is afraid to trust completely due to his past. As Travis lost his mother as a child, so they both have trust issues due to being raised by soulless and manipulative fathers. Will they overcome their fears and allow love into their hearts? Read and find out in this wonderful novella.
Again Jayne Castel pens a wonderful novella following Highland Forbidden which was Alexander and Jamie’s story. I was very much looking forward to this story, which had hinted in the last book. This did not disappoint and it was long for a novella being a hundred and thirty-five pages long. So you definitely have a chance to identify with all the characters and I loved her maid Fiona and her austringer lover too. I could see a future book about them too. Sometimes I think a book about someone other than a Nobleman or woman is refreshing too. You can read this as a stand alone book, but I highly recommend every book in this spectacular series called Stolen Highland Hearts. Every book is absolutely brilliant in this riveting awe-inspiring series that that will keep sweep readers away in another extraordinary read! I for one have loved every single book in this exhilarating series from start fo finish! I also read this in one sitting as I define oh could not put it down!
I definitely highly recommend this phenomenal book! A book readers don’t want to miss! Another for my keeper shelf to read again!
Stolen Highland Hearts #1 Highlander Decieved #2 Highlander Entangled #3 Highlander Forbidden #4 Highlander Pledged - to be released on October 19, 2021
Disclaimer: I received an advance readers copy from the author and agreed to do an honest, fair, review and blog. All thoughts, ideas and words are my own.
Jayne Castel’s “Highlander Pledged: A Medieval Scottish Romance” is Book 4 in the Stolen Highland Hearts Series.
Robina Oliphant is married against her wishes into the ruthless clan Gunn to secure a political alliance. Tavish Gunn Is now a head of one of the Highland’s most feared clans. There are however four younger brothers waiting in the wings for him to slip up so they can take his position. He has every intention of honoring his marriage to Robina whom he’s been infatuated with for so long.
Betrothed first to his brother Alexander who left the clan to marry the woman he loved, as a dutiful daughter Robina is at Gunn Castle to marry Laird Tavish Gunn though the thought terrified her. She has anxiety about being married having been taught to expect her husband to be cruel and hateful to her. She is fearful of her new husband and the marriage bed. Tavish fell in love with Robina when she was betrothed to Alex but his father wouldn’t allow her to become Tavish’s wife instead of Alex’s. He is intent on winning his wife’s love, heart and soul in this touching and heartwarming story. He’s a good man who wants to be a good Laird and win the respect of his clan. He has a lot of responsibility being the new Laird, especially with the four younger brothers waiting for him to fail so they can step into his position.
The author pens a beautiful and breathtaking story about two people raised by cold and unloving parents, who try to find their way free to trust and love one another in spite of their parents influences. Robina and Tavish are both wonderful characters and I love the dual point of view. We find out just what happens to the Gunn Clan after the death of the evil Laird.
Ms. Castel knows her history and the time she writes about well. Packed with emotion, passion and danger the author renders a splendid tale of love and romance. I was thoroughly captivated by this beautiful story! What a lovely way the author has of transporting the reader to another time and place in this engaging and beautiful love story. The entire series is just splendid!
Thank you so much Ms. Castel for this entertaining tale of love.
What do you do when you finally have the person you've always wanted to marry?
Tavish has always wanted Robina but is afraid to let down his guard, and Robina has been taught not to speak her mind and fear what a man and a woman do in their marriage bed.
Tavish's late father was abusive and one thing Tavish has learned growing up is to never let your guard down. And now that he's laird, that's more of a burden he has to carry, especially with his remaining brothers who may or may not want his position. Meanwhile, Robina has no say in who she chooses as a husband or what she does. And she's been conditioned to think by her mother that whatever goes on in bed between a husband and wife is nothing but painful.
Tavish only has eyes for Robina, does his best to make her comfortable, and wants to gain her trust. Robina tries to get used to Tavish showering her with attention while finding comfort in her hawks, something that Tavish is also fond of, which they eventually bond over with.
Robina is a strong, smart heroine whose strength and personality aren't overbearing - her strength, her intelligence in noticing her surroundings/environment and protecting Tavish - they're all a perfect match for her as a character who grew up with an overbearing father and a nosey, irritating mother. She may initially come off as a shy, meek lass but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Meanwhile, Tavish learns what it means to love the woman of his dreams and sets a different precedent for clan Gunn as the new laird.
This is a beautiful story and relationship between two individuals who have been misled and misguided by their parents, and those around them, and find out for themselves what it means to love one another and have someone appreciate, see, and accept them for who they really are.

This short novella tells us all about how scary it is to have your heart vulnerable.
Robina never wanted to marry. Her mother and nursemaid told her a bunch of heinous stuff about men, and she wants nothing to do with it. But Robina's father, "what else is a daughter good for other than marrying her off?" Robina's family is awful.
Tavish always wanted Robina from afar, and now is his chance. With George Gunn gone and Alex married to Jaime he asks for Robina's hand. So, Robina and her family came to Castle Gunn. From the get go Tavish could see what a shrew her mother was and what an opportunist her father was... and he sent them away as soon as he could. That was kind of funny. Glad I didn't see them again in this story. I hate parents like that... "what can you do for me, child that I brought into this world?" Like, why should they do anything for you? They didn't ask to be here! Certainly didn't ask to serve you...
This author is very good at making people from many centuries ago seem so, so, real and so, so not different. During the course of the short story, Robina and Tavish develop an alliance and a friendship, that dead ends when they become intimate... when Tavish realizes his heart is involved. Uhhh.... but, he grew up in a loveless household, what does he know? With five other brothers, everything was always a competition. Oh, Robina is a weakness to make him feel this way!
I like how Robina searched for answers on her own to realize her mother either lied to her, or telling of her own experiences. Either situation would be horrible.
Thus ends the end of the Stolen Highland Hearts series, next up Courageous Highland Hearts finally, finally get to see some justice or some semblance thereof for Niell. Another nomination for parent of the year... Angus Mackay...
Now, I know these characters aren't real, but they are! From bad to good this author is awesome at holding up a mirror to human nature.
Tavish Gunn, new clan-chief of the Clan Gunn, after death of his father, had been enthralled by Robina Oliphant when she had initially been betrothed to his brother Alexander. When Alex left the clan to marry another, the path was clear for another arrangement to be made with Robina’s father. Robina was the prize tossed to whomever her father wished, regardless of her wishes. So when she finds herself at Castle Gunn for the second time, this time to marry Tavish, it is with a heavy heart.
CRITIQUE: This is a touching story revealing the trepidation a young woman has being married off to a clan known to be fierce, unloving. We are allowed to see the situation from both Robina’s viewpoint and that of Tavish, adding depth to the story. This is a nice “filler” novella, filling the gaps of what happened to Clan Gunn after the death of the cruel father George Gunn, and how the new chief acquired his wife. I was transported to the cold winter of 1429 and enjoyed the story to the end. Mature audience recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fed only lies about the marriage bed, Robina never wanted to marry, especially not a Gunn.
Tavis Gunn has been on his guard all his life, but he has also wanted Robina from the first day they met.
Jayne Castel is well versed in Medieval history, which is why Highlander Pledged feels so real. This sweet but powerful Highland love story has just the right mixture of angst, attraction, danger and understanding. This engrossing story kept me e-reading non stop from start to finish. The descriptions made me feel like I was visiting the long ago Highlands. All of the characters rang true and were well developed. Even with their shared flaws, I loved Robina and Tavish, and I was hoping they would find their way towards each other. The ending and epilogue tied up the story well and gave Robina and Tavish their HEA.
Content 411: This book contains some swearing, some passionate kissing and some on screen marital sex.

This is the last book in a series by Jayne Castel, it's beening held in the year 1429, at Castle Gunn in Caithness Scotland! Robina Oliphant is there to marry Tavish Gunn, who is now the new laird of clan Gunn, she was suppose to marry his older brother Alexander ,but he rejected her for another woman. Tavish loved Robina but she was terrified of getting married to anyone. There is a lot of family dynamics in this story with Robina family and also with Tavish family. Tavish has younger brothers who want to be head of the clan, there is drama, sexual attraction in this wonderful story! So many reasons I would recommend this book, wonderful Scottish Historical story, great love and how they discover their love. I was given this book as a ARC to read and share my thoughts and opinions on this book. I loved the two main characters ,Robina and Tavish very much he is so patient with her,and Robina needed this. The secondary people added a lot to the story also, I gave the book a five stars because I enjoyed so much.
Robina’s father had been trying to form an alliance with the Gunn clan for quite a while. When Tavish, the new Gunn clan chief requested her hand, it was granted. Robina was not thrilled. The Gunns were notorious for their savagery and she was angry and terrified. Tavish had craved Robina for years and once he had her, he found her to be an emotional challenge. This book is so much more of a love story than I expected. I kept waiting for something dastardly to happen, and when it did, I was so relieved at the outcome. It was so refreshing to see this revered leader find his soft side, and to see Robina conquor her fears. There is a behind closed doors sweetness between the couple that is simply delightful. I was hooked from the beginning, and can’t help but wonder whether we will be seeing the love stories of Tavish’s brothers later in this series.

It was good to revisit the fearsome Gunn clan and see the interactions from the brothers now their father is dead and the eldest Gunn has defected to the Mackay clan. Tavish is a worthy leader but has grown up in a brutal household where weakness is exploited and everyone vies for position. Unexpectedly becoming clan leader on the death of his father has made his position even more difficult although he does mean he is in a position to request the hand of the girl who caught his eye years ago. Robina has grown up with a nasty vindictive mother who has always seen her daughter as competition so fills her head with lies about marriage. Lovely to watch each of Tavish and Robina learn to trust and to become stronger together than they ever were apart. As always beautifully written descriptions of medieval Scotland.

Jayne Castel writes such beautiful and poignant stories and this one is no exception. I really enjoyed Robina and Tavish's story and proved once again what a wonderful author Ms. Castel is!! Although novella size, the characters are well developed and a lot happens within these 135 pages!
I loved how patient and kind Tavish is with Robina and how he truly sees her for who she is. Always having been the dutiful daughter and not having her opinions heard, Robina finally has a chance to open up and tell Tavish exactly how she feels. Expecting him to be angry with her, it surprises her when he approves and actually encourages her to open up and be honest with her thoughts. There's also the fact that she's terrified of the marital rights he will have over her, especially since her mother lied to her about what to expect!! Thank goodness Tavish can convince her otherwise! lol
Well written, well researched and filled with adventure, danger and of course, romance!!
I was excited to read Tavish Gunn's book. The Gunns are so borish that I was curious how Tavish would be when he finally got his bride of choice, Robina. It was nice to see Robina thaw towards Tavish once she realized he wasn't the brute she believed him to be. I really liked the characters and would love for Tavish's brothers, Will and Evan, to find their own wives. Not a long book, but a complete story. Although, I like all of the characters in the series and would love to read more about them. Jayne Castel did a fabulous job on this book and the series. I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Jayne has delivered yet again! As with Highlander Forbidden, this follows the story of a member of the Gunn family, in this case Laird Tavish Gunn, ( a peripheral character in said book), and his intended Robina Oliphant. Tavish has admired Robina from afar , she on the other hand see's only the violent reputation of the Gunn's Robina learns that not everything she's been told about the Gunn's is necessarily true. What begins with uncertainty and fear becomes something more This story has a bit of everything, anxiety, family feuding and attempted murder, but such an enjoyable story that I read it in one sitting.

Highlander Pledged by Jayne Castel is the fourth book (actually a novella book 3.5) in the Stolen Highland Hearts series. Tavish Gunn, clan chief of Clan Gunn and Robine Oliphant are forced into marriage. He has admired her from a far and is looking forward to the marriage. She hates the arranged marriage.
I loved watching the change in their relationship and the insights that lead to real dimensions to the characters. Even though it is a novella, it is a full story with intrigue, betrayal, hatred, passion and battles which is very satisfying.
Jayne Castel brings Scottish history to life with details from her research. Then, she creates realistic characters in stories that I love to read.

This interesting book 4 in The Stolen Highland Hearts Book Series has an engaging story with strong characters and good world construction. These amazing characters are well-crafted with unique personalities, interesting histories and believable interactions. I was hooked on this story from the very first page and had to read all the way to the end in one sitting. There was action, adventure, love, suspense, twists, and turns. This entertaining Medieval romance has a tale of friendship, loyalty, and the courage to love. This story is a steamy, emotional, and steeped in Scottish history. It is set around the lives and loves of one of the three Mackay siblings, will steal your heart.

A quick read that lays out the plans for Tavish Gunn's and Robina Oliphant's road to loving each other forever. Tavish has loved and desired Robina for years with hopes of making her his wife. Robina does not trust anyone. She is then betrothed to Tavish Gunn, now Laird of the Gunn clan, which does not sit well with her. She knows of Tavish's father, previous Laird, who was cruel to all. She is not sure whether Tavish will continue the cruel rule that was his father's. They are married and their story is a slow burn. An enjoyable read which I recommend to all who love a beautiful and senuous love story.

This was a well-written story about Robina Oliphant’s unwanted marriage to Tavish Gunn.
Robina’s father is determined to wed her to the Gunn clan. After the eldest son gave up his inheritance, her dad stopped pushing for the alliance.
As the second son, Tavish Gunn never expected to be Clan Chief. Once his father passes after his brother had left, he extends his hand in marriage to Robina’s father because he thought meek mild-mannered Robina would be an excellent wife.
Once married, the true nature of their personalities emerge as they work to not be their parents’ child.

What a lovely, heartwarming story! This novella set in medieval Scotland has it all! I was surprised to find such a sweet, warm heart in Tavish, now Chief of Clan Gunn, a clan of vicious, boorish warriors. His new wife, Robina, forced into an unwanted marriage, is very fragile having been traumatized into fearing marriage by her vindictive mother. They have much soul searching and many personal trials to overcome until they get their HEA. Readers, don't miss this one. Very highly recommended!

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Robina is a bride to be given to whomever her father chooses. She is promised to Tavish after his brother marries another woman. He is secretly happy but feels he cannot tell her. She was raised to believe no one cares about what she thinks or feels. These two find a way to open up and trust in their marriage. It is a sweet, historical love story between two who were meant to be together. I enjoyed it.

He loved her when she was his brothers betrothed. Now he is Laird and she is his to wed. Will she love him?
Ah, such a wonderful tale of learning to wait and learning to love. A tale of a new Laird and 4 younger brothers some very jealous. He must protect not only his Lairds chair but his village, his servants and his wife from them. Who can he trust and how much of himself can he give to the woman he loves. This is a really great book. I enjoyed it immensely and could hardly put it down. It speaks to many family rivalry's even today.
Tavish Gunn, chief of clan Gunn, has only desired one lass for his wife. Dreaming of the moment she would arrive at the castle, he does not understand her reticence. Robina Oliphant has never had any interaction with suitors. Letting anyone too close only leads to pain. Lies from her mother only instills fear for the marriage bed. The night of the marriage will be totally different than what each expected, but the nights and days ahead will breakdown their walls of fear. Very short, but filled with a lot of substance.
Tavish is a new laird waiting for his intended to arrive for the wedding. He has wanted her since she was betrothed to his older brother. When that didn’t work out and he became laird, he immediately made the marriage agreement with Robina’s father. Their beginning was rocky because she did not want to marry him. Tavish was patient with her and within a few days he won her trust. Tavish’s younger brother Roy causes trouble throughout the story and eventually goes to far, adding a bit of excitement to the story.
This is a short story but full of emotions, love ,challenges and learning to have patience. Tavish and Robina must overcome a vindictive mother, a demanding father and other hurdles in their way . They face these together as they work out how to make their forced marriage work and achieve what they both want which is love and happiness. I really enjoyed he book.

This book has everything you could want in a book of this genre. I loved watching Robina and Tavish get to know each other. Tavish had an expectation of what his relationship with Robina would be, he had lots to learn. I loved everything about this book especially seeing all Robina experiences in her new life. This book is so well worth ending, I enjoyed it so much I purchased a copy.

Robina's father has been looking for her a husband in order to make strong connections for his clan so when Tavish Gunn agrees to a marriage to Robina she feels like she is being sold off but Tavish has long been in love with her. She tries to fight him but it does not take long for her to see that he is a good man unlike her father and only wants to make her happy. Loved this wonderful story with strong characters.
