Six thousand New Yorkers shot and two thousand killed each this was the way of life in New York City during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The city was losing the war on drugs. The epicenter of New York City’s crack trade was Southeast Queens, where the Supreme Team and their associates had ruled through intimidation and violence. The crack epidemic, and crack wars that followed, wreaked havoc on the citizens of those neighborhoods. Having worked in Southeast Queens during the crack era, George Norris witnessed firsthand the decay brought to the community. NYPD TRUE is told through a series of anecdotes and short stories, ranging from comical to dangerous. This autobiography combines the history of the Southeast Queens crack trade, the NYPD, and war stories from one of the NYPD’s most decorated officers.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a cop or perhaps you know someone who is? Just think how this world would be without them. Sure there are a few bad apples in the bunch but that happens in every occupation. These brave men and women risk their lives daily for us never knowing if it's their last. They are humans like us. They have families and friends. Mr. Norris is a twenty year veteran with the NYPD. He takes us on a journey from the day he graduated until he retired. The ups and downs. The highs and lows. Putting these criminals away for our safety and losing a few of his fellow brothers and sisters along the way. We get a glimpse of what he experienced and some of the politics behind the scenes. At the end of the stories there are pictures of him and some of his fellow officers as well as newspaper clippings and guns that were confiscated. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have. A strong supporter of the PD, FF and EMS.
Extraordinary And Outstanding Vivid Account Of Police Work NYPD TRUE by George P Norris is a fast- paced account of a police officer on the streets of NY. George tells his story from the Academy and his career from start-to-finish as a New York City cop who worked his way through various departments over the years. Officer George Norris writes a detailed description of his encounters with people involved with drugs and other crimes. George does not hold back, and his narrative is detailed, raw and gritty taking you along for the ride with him whilst on patrol. This book is an Extraordinary and Outstanding vivid account of police work I absolutely recommend NYPD TRUE to anyone who would like to know more about the real-life challenges and dangers he faced as one of NY’s most highly decorated police officers. Well Done! There are some typos, but not enough to detract from the stories themselves. I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
George P. Norris writes about the way of life (sadly) in NYC in the 80's and 90's. I am a fan of true crime stories. This is the second book written by this author that I've read. The first book was a thriller, and the author is a former NYPD officer. This book is a collection of stories, that revolve around the increase in crimes in NYS, such as Queens, where the epidemic of "crack" was making the addiction, an increase in violence and intimidation. These are the stories from NYPD's most decorated officers, and some are anecdotes, or experiences, as this book details the history of Southeast Queens, and the war against Crack. This book was written very well. It was detailed and terrifying, especially because of the truth behind the war on drugs. NYPD TRUE is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more titles by this author.
Not What I Hoped For From The Blurb Before I Bought It
This is a police procedural and collection of "my stories" that is great to read before going to bed at night because it will put you to sleep in no time flat! The author claims on his cover to be, "One of NYPD'S most decorated officers." By reading you'll also find that he was one of the often disciplined perpetrators of abusing overtime pay. Not a glowing commendation. Buy at your own risk/peril.
Episodic policing memoir that needed a more coherent narrative; it comes across a bit like a diary. Norris was front row to the crack epidemic and witness street dealing give lift to rap careers and rap lyrics bring back violence to the streets. The rise of Curtis James Jackson III, known professionally as 50 Cent.
A story of New York's Finest by one of the Finest. Highly recommend this book for a look at what it is like to be a Police Officer in the city so nice they named it twice. New York, New York. Stay safe my Brothers and Sisters in blue.
If you are an admirer of the police force and want to know the real gritty details this is the perfect read for you! THANK YOU for all of the details, Sargent!
Good read with enough to know you’re reading journal. I really did like the book but beings a journal like, left me thinking deeper into that story. If this was like book telling more about stories I think it would of been better. Recommend to read
A very realistic book being from the New York and members of my family in the Police Department. Also being a victim of a brutal attack coming home from the library on a early September evening .The police were there within minutes .
