A heartwarming Regency Christmas Novella from a USA Today Bestselling Author!
Lucy Gray lost everything just after her sixteenth birthday—her parents, her home, and her future. Since that terrible time, she’s lived with her great aunt in the quiet countryside. But an invitation from her cousin, Emma Waverly, to join their Christmas house party, along with a request to help Emma choose between several suitors, proves irresistible, even if it brings forth bittersweet memories of Christmas past.
Hugh Raybourne is pleased to be invited to a holiday house party at the fabulously wealthy Waverly’s country estate. The time has come to set aside his roguish ways and marry. Emma’s fortune would more than provide the money he needs to make his dream of breeding horses a reality. But meeting her cousin Lucy, with her quiet beauty and true heart, cause him to rethink his future and the man he wants to be.
Lucy soon realizes she’s falling for Hugh, but she has no fortune to offer him, and she’s too frightened of losing everything again to reach for a chance at happiness. With the help of some mistletoe, can Hugh convince the lady to take a chance on him?

I purchased this as part of a bundle called Mistletoe and Mayhem.
Another author I own almost 30 books and her character's come to life.
Our poor h lost her parents 7 years ago and it was decided she should live in the country with her great aunt. The aunt has other family, but they didn't consider they should help out a 16 year old girl who didn't get a season. The h remains kindhearted and loyal even though her great aunt was very difficult.
The H needs to marry for money, which puts the h's cousin in his sights. But, at the house party where the h/H are he starts to see amazing qualities the h has, which her cousin doesn't.
Romance builds slowly and this couple just clicked. Bumpy road to HEA but our H/h finally make it to the finish line.
One lovemaking scene within marriage, heat level 2 out of 5. No cheating, romance and a tad of spice. (ljb)
A sweet holiday romance, I originally read this novel in the Mistletoe and Mayhem anthology. Orphaned and destitute, Lucy is dependent on the largess of her family and is a companion to her aged and disgruntled aunt. Invited by her entitled cousin to a Christmas house party, Lucy meets Hugh Raybourne who is one of Emma's choices as a prospective husband. Whilst Hugh needs the funds that Emma's dowry will bring him, it is Lucy's gentle, caring nature that draws him. In order to win her over, Hugh has to breach her fear of abandonment before he can win her heart. A sweet romance ensues. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This was just the feel-good kind of read I needed right now!
A Rogue and Some Mistletoe was first released as a part of a holiday anthology--which I missed--so I was glad to hear it was going to be re-released on its own as a novella. Lucy and Hugh both find themselves with personal agendas at a holiday house party: he to find a wealthy heiress to marry and her to "help" her cousin decide which of her suitors to choose (though really, what she really wants to do is just have a nice holiday season like she used to).
FYI--Lucy is not a wealthy heiress.
Even though this is a shorter work, I didn't at all feel cheated out of a delightful story. Watching Lucy and Hugh fall for each other was very sweet--I only kind of, sometimes wanted to shake Lucy's cousin Emma for being somewhat self-centered and manipulative ;)--and it was easy to root for them to somehow find a way to be together in the end. They do--hooray!--and though it was a teeny bit easily managed, that's only because Lucy's relatives hadn't been trying very hard before.
A Rogue and Some Mistletoe worked as a standalone--if you're new to the series, it will undoubtedly encourage you to add the others to your TBR ASAP--if you've been reading them all along, you will definitely enjoy this addition.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Previously published in the Mistletoe and Mayhem collection in 2020. Hugh attends a house party hoping to win the hand of an heiress and instead falls for the charms of her penniless cousin. Note: not sure why no monetary provision or guardianship made for Lucy on the death of her parents and I was expecting a neater solution, such as she had money in trust but (for some reason) didn’t know about it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4 1/2*STARS * When her cousin Emma invites her to join a houseparty for Christmas, the motive makes Lucy uneasy. Emma wants her help to choose which gentleman she should marry. Emma's manipulations could result in a compromise and forced marriage. Lucy never expected to fall in love with one of the gentleman herself. The pain of losing someone she loves holds her back. Hugh won't give up until she says yes to a life together. An emotional romance during the season of magic hope. I voluntarily read and reviewed by request of the author.
I like Lucy from the first. Selfless and kind, thoughtful and considerate. And Hugh is the typical 'I know what I want' kind of guy who suddenly realizes he doesn't really know anything of the kind. The story is soft and sweet. Lana never disappoints. The characters are so vibrant and alive, the scenery so real it's like being there. Can't wait for the next story.
