WHAT A GREAT WESTERN WITH A SCI-FI TIME TRAVELER TWIST
☆☆☆☆☆
Lost In Time : An Old Fashion Western by S.A. Ison is just one of those books that will draw you into the story from the first page, leaving you hooked to the final page. If you haven't had the chance to read any of S.A. Ison's books, this is a great book to start with. Though I can honestly say, based on the books I have read by Ison, you can't go wrong with any of them.
The main characters in this book are people that you can relate to, their down to earth people with a good sense of right and wrong, full of compassion towards others, including their animals. The bad guys are just as believable in their roles, and you will truly enjoy it when they face justice.
Jo is suddenly transported back to Texas in 1872 by a freak strom in 2020. Trouble is upon her as soon as she reaches 1872. Thankfully, Sawyer and Kitty stumble upon Jo in the nick-of-time, saving her from an worse then death ordeal after being beat so bad that it would take weeks to recover.
Sawyer and Kitty take Jo in to help her recover and Sawyer reluctantly gives her the opportunity to be the cook on his ranch. Jo being a strong willed woman from 2020 convinces Sawyer to let her be their camp cook on a roundup of cattle. It doesn't take much time from Sawyer, Kitty, and the drovers to not only fall in love with Jo's cooking but her herself after they see the determination and strength of this hardworking gal whether it's dealing with rustlers, Indians, or the hardships of the trail.
This book as its action, suspense, romance, and even humor, just wait until you read the difference between clean and fresh water. It's a story that anyone interested in a great western action thriller and/or a great time travel story. I know I have really enjoyed this book, its characters, and the voice in which S.A. Ison writes in. I hope you, too, will find yourself enjoying this book also.
Quote: "War destroyed more than towns and cities. They killed the mind and soul."
Lost in Time, an Old Fashion Western by S.A. Ison is a wonderful book that will hold your interest until the very last word. This is the first time travel book I have ever read and, because of this book, it will not be the last. Ison's characters are well developed and the story itself is very interesting and action packed. The ending came as a complete surprise but it was just perfect. I am definitely an S.A. Ison fan now and will look for her other books.
Audiobook (10 hours 36 minutes) narrated by Francis G. Kearney Publisher: Stephanie Albino
This is my third book by SA Ison, and my second with Francis G. Kearney as a narrator. I cannot seem to easily pull up information on Kearney, however his narration skills are very good. He handles the descriptive, introspective, and conversational parts effortlessly. His narration is clear, the voices are consistent and easily identifiable throughout the novel making the story easy to follow without a lot of 'he said, she said' identifiers during busy conversations. Kearney also has an extremely great knack of being able to create really good female voices. While it isn't anything new or unusual for male narrators to voice female characters, those characters generally have a certain tone to them that is likely a common way to create higher pitched characters for those with lower tones voices. Somehow, Kearney just speaks out voices as if he has extra people living in his throat. I don't know, maybe he does, I'm not complaining, I am enjoying. The audio is flawless.
Lost in Time is my third novel by this author.
SA Ison definitely has a style. Character first with tangible descriptors. I could almost feel the warmth of the west while reading. She also utilizes time travel as a way to mingle present day into history, which is an interesting method of story telling, allowing the author, and by extension the reader, to compare and contrast then and now.
In this book, we start in an old school western atmosphere, much like the old black and white western TV series, or those from the 70s with characters that are both realistic but a bit caricature like, which accentuates the time period that our modern character traveled into. Early on we are drawn in with some mild comparisons like from scratch biscuits and other recipes, as our out of time person experiences everyday things like eating, and then we move to other things which our modern character does internally express being uncomfortable with but also knowing that things are different here. These types of introspective and sometimes actual discussions add interest to the story.
While the writing styles and stories are completely dissimilar, the early comparisons with the biscuits and realizations of the stark differences of culture in different time periods, remind me of some of the comparisons made by Octavia E. Butler in Kindred. Just as Butler seems to create worlds to test ideas and theories, Ison seems to jump into different time periods to look around, touch the grass, and compare their apples to ours. Where Butler is more scientific and technical, Ison is very much exploratory but in way that I think identifies with random everyday comparisons that people sometimes wonder about when indulging in material from a time we weren't around to observe ourselves, like when people mull over if the old extinct banana really tastes like the banana flavoring companies use for banana candy. (As a side note I recently ran across a video from supposedly the guy who first started the banana flavor conversation, disproving the flavoring taste theory, this banana out of time video isn't that but it does go back to the 1800's when the banana flavoring was supposedly created and included the 'fact' of it tasting like old school bananas, but does it? Maybe we need a book about it? 🍌😂 https://youtu.be/yxMyB2wRirg?si=fcs3U...)
I rather enjoy this style and will be back for more. 🍌🎧💌📖
Truly fantastic book! Satisfying ending, good story, pacing, and character development. S.A. Ison has a gift for time travel stories. Now if only there was a sequel to Pushed Back! Lol. Well worth the money to escape into such a good read for a few hours.
I have never read this author before, but I love time travel books and it was a western so I thought I would try it. It was great, loved the characters and the comparison of the past to the future. Had me turning pages so fast anxious to see what was going to happen, I breezed through it in 2 days. I am going to check out other books by this author. Truly enjoyable read.

Ison has a gift for time travel stories. Well worth the money to escape into such a good read for a few hours. I highly recommend it I hope to read more S.A books
Not really an Old Fashion Western as the title suggests, but more of a comparison of then and now. We seldom think of how technology has advanced in 150 years, wjth bathrooms, toilets, running water, sanitation, and on and on the list grows. Interestingly, people are about the same with good guys, bad guys, crooks, liars, friends, and neighbors. In the end what matters is friends and family.
Five vehicles is one of the best tine travel romance story's ever.. Jo, git send back in time 1800"s.. She meets Sawyer and Kitty, two westerners who believes her story.. This story combines both the past with the present.. There is violence, as dealing with fraud and Indians..No sex, but imagination you could know what happens.. Damm good ending.
I love the time travel stories cannot wait for the daughters stories. I also enjoyed all the emp stories.i especially love the bad guys getting knocked off in epically gruesome ways. Write more I love reading your books.
Love time travel books, this one's a good one. Characters are great and story is very good, good plot. Somewhat historical and romantic. All and all a must read it you like time travel books.
This was a pleasant read. I liked the main characters. I do think all the problems and sinister characters were taken care of rather too neatly. I guess you could say one of them had what was coming to them. Real life often doesn't end up with everything always working out without a struggle. I did like that there was an epilogue, but wished it had been a bit longer with more in depth deatails. Not a cliff hanger ending - so that was good. I'd recommend it for an enjoyable read.
I enjoyed this book.Joe is thrown back in time by a tornado. It is hard to get used to,but she does.It is full of action and adventure with just the right touch of romance. Francis G Kearney was a good narrator.Sometimes her words were stilted, but it was fine.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This book had me drawn into the story from the very beginning to the very last word. In fact, I wasn't finished reading it because even when I got to the end of the book, I wanted to read more. There was action, adventure, a cattle drive and even murder with Jo, Sawyer and Kit. Then when Clay, Rory, Calhoun and Maynard got involved in the story there were plenty of lies, gambling, drinking, more murders and even a suicide happening all because they all wanted the Reed land and would do anything to get it! This is definitely a great book that you'll want to finish in one sitting ~ I did because I just couldn't put it down till I finished it!
This book starts immediately, no wasted time. It grabbed me from page one. I loved the old west details and the delightful twist at the end. It's a quick read and I definitely recommend it.
What could happen when a 21st century woman [a chef from San Antonio] is, through no fault of her own, transported to the late 19th century [1892 to be specific] and immediatley beaten to a pulp by the local bandidos? That's where and when the story begins as she is rescued by some local cowboys. She may be a city slicker but she knows how to ride a horse and handle a gun as well as a chef's knife. Her skills and knowledge go far beyond her cooking skills in that she's knows what will happen over the next 130 years and has seemingly "magical" skills that are taken for granted in the 21st century, For example, CPR is unknown in 1892 as is the significance of the black gooey substance oozing up from underground. Likewise, Jo has to deal with the late 19th century attitudes, customs, sex and mores toward women and life in general. Jo manages to make peace with her situation, realizing there is probably no way back to the future. That allows her to fully embrace her situation and the people who rescued and initially cared for her. She becomes part of an extended family. All in all, the story is compelling from being a stranger in a strange land to embracing her new life. The ending which I won't even hint at was a surprise and perfectly fit the narrative. If there were more stars to give this story, I would.
This is a lovely story. It met all my requirements for a good read. Surprise s at every turn. Sex was well implied, but not graffit. Could be enjoyed by young adults. Locations and culture of the Old West was detailed and satisfying.
Sometimes a stand alone novel is just refreshing. This tale has it all. Adventure, love and the dastardly crooks! You’ll enjoy thinking about the possibilities presented. Thanks.
I have read several books in the last year about people going back in time to the Revolutionary War.....THIS book takes our heroine back to the "Old West." Its very well written with some great well developed characters.....Very entertaining!
I asked for another book simular to the book that I had recently read by the same author. Another story from the past, but not dinosaurs. This book for filled by wish.. I could not put it down!
This was a very enjoyable story. Well written and mostly just a fun read. We can envision ourselves in this situation and the author did a good job of settling things within the story.
