She’s an older widow, looking for a new start with a clean slate. He’s the town’s sawmill owner – a great giant of a man with a kind heart – desperate to find love. When Anna Ricco meets incorrigible Burt Nicholas, there’s no telling what will become of the pair of them. But one thing’s for sure – it won’t be an easy ride! When Anna Ricco and her widowed friends see a matrimonial newspaper advertising for mail order brides, no matter what age, shape or disposition, they seize the chance of a new life in the small town of High View, Montana. The Civil War may have ended in 1865 but it has left them destitute and penniless, without a man to love and care for them. Leaving their home in Chancer Creek, South Carolina they travel to the rapidly growing mountain town of High View with hopes of finding the perfect man to love and marry. Anna, being the eldest of the group, doubts that anyone will want to court her, especially when there are younger, more appealing women looking for husbands. But that isn’t a problem for her – no, she has other ideas, ones that include building a schoolhouse for the local children. Anna has the building plans. She just needs a little help to construct the building. She enlists the help of local sawmill owner, Burt Nicholas who promises her support and helping hands. This is the third in this series of mail order bride stories. A group of women answered a group request for mail order brides. Anna is the oldest of the women coming to be a bride. Most were war widows and some were young dreamy eyed girls. All leaving a war torn area with few men left and fewer opportunities. Burt or Bull is the older owner of the local saw mill and he wants a young bride, but none of the young fanciful girls even look his way. He makes a deal of sorts with Anna to help him appeal to those young girls and he will help her build a school house. Thing don’t go as they plan and Anna’s school house is sabotaged. You will love this tale .
I am enjoying this series so far and looking forward to reading this about the rest of the Bride's. Annie is a widow from the south. Her abusive husband died during the Civil War. Her son also died as a soldier. Left alone and without a means of support , she decides to join a wagon train to the west along with other widow's and young women with the same goal. Once they arrive at their destination Anne decides she wants to start a 🏫 for the children. Along the way to fulfilling her goal many things happen. Enjoy you reading journey. I Did!!!!!
Silly young women have all the men doing silly things. Even Albert, aka Bert or Bull the o!see saw mill owner is fawning over them leaving Anna to corral them all. But it's a bit much when Bull asks her to give him talking lessons so he can court Mary No, the most petulant of the young women. But a trade is made and a bargain struck, but the everything built crumbles. This is a really good story and enjoyed it immensely.
This was delightful story. A group of ladies had traveled to Montana, each looking for marriage. Some were young and a few were widows for the war and were looking for second chances. Anna was a teacher and wanted to build a school. She borrowed the money and tried to buy the lumber o build with. Just enjoy this adventure.
I Love this series. Anna was running the boarding house but her dream was to build a school house. Burt was coming to the boarding house to try and find a bride. So they made a deal, she will teach him how to court. And he would build the school.
Loved this book so much It kept me awake until I finished it.Anna was one of the war widows who went west to find a husband. She was one of the older ones and the men were only looking at the young ones.Until she met Bull. Then things changed.
WOW !!!!!! What a wonderful education that was. Back then it was almost impossible to find a wife. But, as my education grew, I noticed she needed an education. Great writing. Thank you.
A sweetheart of a story that has humour, romance and everything that will make you feel good. I truly enjoyed reading this story and I'm sure you will too. The author created characters that were charming and interesting. This book deserves five stars
This book is good, lots of emotion, but not my favorite in this series. How is he so oblivious to what is going on? How is he so unable to see the good woman standing right in front of him? Very frustrating at times.
Annie really impressed me because she wouldn’t just wait for the men to build the school. She had a lot of help, but the project got sabotaged. Eventually Bull helps her out and they fall in love. nice little story.
A definitely lovely story! Fast read but s full tale that won't leave you disappointed! A new author to me, but one I will be looking at again! Good read!
The women in this town pull together and support each other no matter what the men do. Anna has been through so much and she has lost so much. Can she find happiness?
