The Darcy Vs Series has always involved Fitzwilliam Darcy’s home, Pemberley. And someone has always coveted Pemberley either to marry Darcy and be mistress there or to gain the glorious estate by hook or crook. All four of the stories contained within the Darcy Vs Collection tell the tales of those who desired Pemberley at any cost. The lone exception was Miss Elizabeth Bennet who had no desire to chase the master of Pemberley but was caught up in this Regency romance anyway and found herself the mistress of this lovely home. Although Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was the motivation for each of these tales, they diverge into the imagination of author Gianna Thomas who puts her own spin on the lives of these two popular lovebirds.Darcy Vs Bingley - Ever since meeting Fitzwilliam Darcy, Caroline Bingley has determined she will wed him and become mistress of his estate, Pemberley. However, in attending the Meryton Assembly, Darcy finds that he is attracted to Elizabeth Bennet, so much so that he asks her to dance twice that evening. Rather than try to avoid the young woman, he seeks her attention with the intent of marrying her. Miss Bingley, however, has plans of her own to accomplish her goals by hook or crook. What will be the repercussions of her attempted compromise that goes catastrophically awry?Darcy Vs Lady Catherine - Pemberley! Lady Catherine de Bourgh has always wanted to merge Rosings and the Darcys' estate under her sole control. What will she be willing to do to ensure that happens? Fitzwilliam Darcy has declared he would not marry his cousin Anne, but her mother, Lady Catherine, has always said otherwise. So, what will happen when these two stubborn individuals go head-to-head, and what will be Darcy's reaction to his aunt's machinations toward Miss Elizabeth Bennet?Darcy Vs Elizabeth - Becoming mistress of Pemberley has been the goal of most of the young ladies of the ton. However, Elizabeth Bennet would rather slap the face of the rude ‘gentleman’ owner than ever marry him. In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Darcy is just a little bit less than a gentleman with his selfish disdain of others, his pride, and his habit of looking down on those he does not feel are worth knowing and associating with. But…unfortunately, he is somewhat attracted to Elizabeth Bennet and manages to be a little bit ruder to her than intended in his effort to put his attraction behind him. Jane Austen’s hero is less than heroic at the beginning of this sweet Regency romance. Will he mend his ways in time to win his lady love? Or will Darcy lose her because of the charm that he so sorely lacks?Darcy Vs Wickham - Suppose Elizabeth Bennet never met George Wickham prior to marrying Darcy, and Ramsgate never happened. Regency romance is in the air as Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy have been happily married for five months and live at Pemberley with Georgiana Darcy. Life has been idyllic until one day, Darcy receives a note from a friend requesting his help with a problem. He rides toward his friend’s estate, but his horse returns to Pemberley without him. The worst is feared and finally realized when a body is found at the bottom of a gorge and identified as Fitzwilliam Darcy by his clothes and other articles. Elizabeth is determined to find out what happened. Did his horse throw him or was foul play involved? Find out in Darcy Vs Wickham, a fast paced, emotional, and angst driven Pride and Prejudice variation of desire and murderous jealousy from a #1 Amazon author Gianna Thomas.
Gianna has been in love with Historical Romance/Mysteries, and especially Regency Romance, for many years. But it wasn’t until 2013 that she started writing in this genre. Gianna discovered Pride and Prejudice, and its many variations, what ifs and fan fiction. She was totally fascinated by the variety of plots that eager authors had utilized. After reading several of these fascinating books, she realized why others loved them and Jane Austen’s books so well.
Gianna was aware of the storyline of Pride and Prejudice after reading it many years ago and seeing the 1940’s movie as well as the 2005 movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen. She loved the 2005 movie and the musical score. Yes, the movie wasn’t 100% accurate, but isn’t the goal to entertain and touch the heart? And this movie touched her heart and helped her to appreciate more the talent of Jane Austen.
Rereading Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice has given her greater insight into Ms. Austen’s genius in depicting different personalities and situations and the society of her day. As a mature adult, Gianna sees much more in her books now than ever before.
After reading nearly 200 variations and fan fictions, Gianna now had P&P plots running through her head. She finally decided that they needed to be put to paper (today, on the computer), to see how they would develop. She is having an absolute ball in writing about Darcy and Elizabeth and is pleased with how things are developing. Her goal is to entertain and touch hearts. Hopefully, with her first rendering 'Darcy Chooses', she achieved that goal and touched your heart also.
More recently, Gianna started looking beyond Pride and Prejudice, with her first foray into Regency Romance generally, with The Four Lords’ Saga Series.
Gianna Thomas is a ghostwriter of poetry and e-books who became a widow after twenty-two years with her very own Mr. Darcy, who was her second husband. She lives a quiet life in a small Illinois town with her cats and loves to read regency romance, Jane Austen’s works and the many variations done by other lovers of Pride and Prejudice.
SPOILER ALERT: This review may contain *** SPOILERS ***
STORY 1: Darcy Vs Bingley: 25-chapters + Epilogue I & Epilogue II: ended at 35% on my device.
Rating: Clean: Angst level: low until a scene with a bit of tension when Caroline attempted the unthinkable and Lydia nearly got herself killed. Wickham’s character [the SBRB] was much worse than canon. LA! Where are my salts? Goodness. Why hadn’t someone put that mad dog down before now?
Caroline was a nightmare and attempted… well, you know her and her wishes. She then received a comeuppance that was magnificent. Way to go Darcy. Lydia, our little harridan over at Longbourn, nearly got herself killed and received her mother’s full attention for her disobedience. I bet she won’t be sitting around on her laurels for the next little bit. There was a lot of laughter with the male characters. That was a bit disconcerting. It was cute but strange at times. I know they laughed back then but to read of them laughing until tears or a full belly laugh was strange. I loved the happy-ever-after for our various couples. Epilogue 1 [1851] had ODC looking back over their life together and all the changes that had occurred with them and others. Some were happy, some were melancholy. However, that’s life. I especially enjoyed epilogue #2, hilarious.
STORY 2: Darcy Vs Lady Catherine: 22-chapters + epilogue [six months later]: ended at 61% on my reading device. Lady Catherine was a nightmare along with Mr. Collins. OMG!
Rating: MA due to descriptions of a mature nature, violence, kidnapping, attempted murder, descriptions of murder[s], OMG! I did not expect that. Angst Level: from low to high with a kidnapping and attempted murder.
This is the second story where Darcy was instantly intrigued with Elizabeth. In this variation, he actually danced with her at the Meryton assembly... twice. Seriously? I could have accepted it later when he knew her better, but when he first met her seemed strange. Then, to top that, he asked to call on her the next morning. He was considering asking for a courtship. OMG! What universe is this? His dialogue with Bingley regarding Jane was off-putting. It seemed like the kettle was calling the pot black. However, our Bingley had a backbone in this story and I enjoyed watching him use it against his interfering friend and his pernicious sister. She was a pistol fully loaded. She also crossed a line with Wickham that Darcy can never forgive and she will never gain the ground she lost with him. Serves her right.
Lady Catherine and Collins were insane… seriously. Rosings was not a nice place for poor Anne and Darcy had to clean house for her. That was fun. Collins was not the person we are accustomed to. He was… well, let’s just say… no, I can’t say. That would be a spoiler. Dang! He was horrid and such a surprise. Don’t blink or you will miss it.
STORY 3: Darcy Vs Elizabeth: 16-chapters + epilogue: ends at 86% on my device.
Rating: Clean. Angst Level: several tense moments but nothing too stressful. However, it was frustrating as heck. We are dealing with two of the most stubborn people in all of England. I wanted to shake them. Slight Religious Element: references on sin and forgiveness. They weren’t actual scriptures but paraphrased for meaning. There wasn’t anything overt or preachy. It was how anyone would converse and admonish someone to better themselves.
It was way into the story and we had Darcy and Elizabeth constantly at loggerheads with each other. In her mind, he could do no right and he considered her a fortune-hunting hoyden. This got old very quickly. Caroline Bingley was relentless in her pursuit of Mr. Darcy and Pemberley or rather being Mistress of Pemberley. Darcy was simply attached to the estate. She could take or leave him. Well, she certainly put herself out there and acted badly on more than one occasion. How many times does it take Darcy telling her he will NOT marry her for her to get the message? Apparently too many times. She would not let up. Well, how did that work out for you, you scheming b-witch? GRRR!
Then we had our resident bad boy, Wickham. The SBRB [scum-bag-rat-bastard] really did it up-right. OMG! He certainly made Bingley’s ball memorable. Pretty soon, the luck ran out for our SBRB and he met someone who didn’t like his behavior and did something about it.
Bingley… this author really gave our guy a backbone and he made sure Darcy and Caroline knew his feelings on their interference. Way-to-go, Bingley.
STORY 4: Darcy Vs Wickham: Preface + 17-chapters [in 5-Parts as it flips POV] + Epilogue
Rating: PG-17, mature themes discussed, violence described [flogging], sexual/sensual scenes hinted at but not described or graphic. Angst Level: from none to High!!! I nearly suffered apoplexy. OMG! Tell me it isn’t so!?!? In the preface, our author explained the muse for these stories. Then chapter 1 grabbed me by the throat and nearly did me in. OMG! Religious Element: There were references to God and as our characters grieved, they sought a higher power for comfort. It was consistent with the times and not preachy.
The universe was a bit different in this variation. Wickham had not attempted to seduce Georgiana at Ramsgate. He didn’t join the militia. And, Elizabeth had never met him before. D&E had been wed for five months when the SBRB pulled his coup de grâce. I can’t even describe it. I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream and pull my hair. No, I wanted to… I can’t say. GRRR! This was tough to read and this was one tough Elizabeth Darcy. Oh-My-Goodness, she was amazing. I love, Love, LOVE an Elizabeth like this. She had a no holds barred, take no prisoners type of attitude in finding out what happened to her husband. ‘I pity the fool’ that got in her way. Oh, this was amazing. I wonder at the coincidence of a friend of Darcy’s… oh, I can’t say, spoiler.
