MAKE YOUR CHOICES—LIFE WILL CHOOSE YOUR CONSEQUENCES

Wow! I don’t know how she does it, but Ms. Zoe Blake keeps on upping her game and bringing us, her readers, unique stories. I loved Dark Deception and its high octane scenes, passionate characters, and all the angst with erotic intensity. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The story will take the reader on a roller-coaster ride into the world of thieves. Meet the players, Mirage and Paine, two people who both works for an organization known only as The Syndicate.

Paine: “A man of his skills was hard to find. A trained fighter, thief, and hacker. A criminal renaissance man.” Sometimes, in his line of work for The Syndicate, it includes taking out certain operatives, ones who may have crossed a line, as Dev has done. Now someone has trashed his name and reputation, sending out the word to the underground that he has switched sides and has gone rogue. “The Syndicate was beginning to doubt that Paine had betrayed them.”

Mirage: “He respected her for her skills, and he wanted her for her beauty. Like the thief he was, Paine appreciated something precious and rare; Mirage was both. She was simply stunning. Her petite frame matched her gamine, almost other-worldly features. Skin so pale it was almost translucent. Dark, obsidian eyes which matched her silky, black hair. Her lips dominated her delicate face, almost appearing too large and always painted a crimson red.”

“The Syndicate was rich beyond measure organization of criminals, politicians, and businessmen. A cross between the Knights Templar, the Skull, and Bones society and some evil Bond villain.”

Now that you know the players, understand the angst, Mirage is determined to take out Paine, and she has devised her plan of revenge. “It had all been perfect. The perfect setup. The perfect deception. The perfect revenge.” But even perfect sometimes has its downfall, and that is Paine when he thwarts her plan. Paine is a man who lives up to his name, and now he will exact his revenge. “He would find his bad little kitten and make her pay for all her misdeeds.”

The story is a cat and mouse game between Paine and Mirage, and while he punishes her for her actions, he also learns more about her. She fascinates him, and he is determined to own her as his. The sex between them is controlling and forceful. There isn’t a part of her he doesn’t master and claim.

“Sex with Paine had all the elements of a great heist. Anticipation, danger, tension, euphoria. She secretly loved how he bent her to his will, made her beg for the pleasure and pain. The only way she would or could be completely submissive was to a strong, dominating man like Paine, who took that submission from her by force. She needed to focus on all the reasons why she hated him—on how much he angered her—not the reasons why she was falling in love with him.”

The story is life and risk, love and hate, talent and execution, pain and pleasure, give and take, raw, edgy, dark and dirty with two people who learn that there can be honor among thieves; you have to find the right one. The story has explicit sex scenes with forced submission, unequal power exchange, and extremely sizzling hot sex between this pair. She thrives off of his dominance and control, and he knows exactly how to control her. For them, it will become a win-win dynamic. Previously published as Bite Me, Daddy.

Zoe Blake never ceases to amaze me, I loved this novel to the very end and ever after. I want so much more of Phoebe and Michael's kinky love story! An HEA is guaranteed with an open-ended epilogue that leaves room for a sequel (please let there be one, Zoe!).

I'm accustomed to reading Zoe's mafia romances, but this romantic thriller is a favorite novel that's second only to Savage Vow. I see a theme here that's pretty obvious to most, but it's hilarious to me: Zoe's love for spanking, as this is the fourth work of hers I've read that involves the kink (Lilith's Revenge, Jekyll, Savage Vow, and this novel here: Reckless Surrender). I loved the steamy romance that went into downright smut territory, I loved the enemies-to-lovers trope between Phoebe and Michael (a trope that's actually one of my least favorites in all concerning dark romantic literature), and I pray one day my husband wants to recreate a scene or two from Zoe's work, but that's just between him and me.

My inner cryptid fangirl was going haywire-crazy-obsessive over the side-plot involving the chance of wendigos being involved. I loved the detail of "Satanic symbols" being used but later finding out Satan had nothing to do with the plot, thankfully, and people mistook the wendigo symbols for something exponentially darker. Wendigo and skin-walker lore is something I love in any horror story ASMR video or book, and I love how Phoebe's wendigo research turned into a passionate love scene involving Lieutenant Commander Michael Lawson. Where can I find a Michael Lawson of my very own? He's swoon-worthy and seems to me to be the type of character who'd defend his woman against any threat, man or woman or wendigo! I think I've found a new book boyfriend, and I can hardly breathe in the best way possible! Zoe, give me more!

This book first came out as “Bite me, Daddy.” Paine wants to know who burned him. He has become a liability to the Syndicate. Mirage thought the Syndicate would have put a hit on Paine by now. She will have to do it herself. He took someone from her and she will make him pay. I love that we get to once again read about Logan and Chloe. Another tie in with “Fight Me, Daddy.” This is a great cat and mouse. I love the action of how they met. Paine definitely takes what he wants. Mira was his equal in everything, just a bit faster and smarter. You have to love these two. A bit of pain with your pleasure is at times cringe worthy but so worth it.

A perfect murder mystery romance with a little bit of kink

I loved it. Feisty heroine, delish Commander, and a murder mystery in a sleep New England town...it ticks all the boxes. What I don't understand, however, is why this is being sold as part of a series when it has absolutely nothing to do with the previous two stories. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. I liked the previous two books, but this one was perfect.

Great one sitting read. The LT Colonel is one man not to lie to, he'll follow through on what he says. Phoebe realizes too late when she does something she's not supposed to. Nice intrigue, totally cool high octane chapter with the bonfire and just the right amount of hotness. Loved it.

Great story

Such a good story. Exciting and suspenseful. Hooded monks. Satanic rituals. A reporter in danger. A marine commander bent on protecting what’s his. Very erotic. Sooo good.

RATING: 3.5 / 5 ⭐
GENRE: Romance, Mystery
TYPE: #3 in the series Surrender but can be read as a Standalone - (small appearance of previous characters)
CLIFFHANGER: No.
MAIN CHARACTERS: Phoebe & Michael
POV: 3rd person - 2 POVs
SPICE: 2 / 5 🔥
INCLUDES: Spanking, Punishments, Murder, Dub-con
Will I re-read it? Yes, maybe!

This was by far the best book (previously published as Own Me, Daddy) from this series. It was not as steamy as previous books from the Surrender series but much more intriguing with the murder mystery. It was a quick and nice read and also a good finish of the series. I got happy that it didn't feel much like the other two books that had to much similarities between them. Even though the characters had similar traits as in previous stories, these ones felt more new but it might be because of the new setting and action of the story.
