For an avid reader, one story is never enough. My thirst for reading more, took me on a hunt to discover books on short stories and my eyes caught on a book titled: ‘The Untold Tales (Love and other Demons)’ by Mr. Paras. In these testing times, books can be our best friends and this is what this book proved to be. I had desired to indulge my senses in a variety of intriguing stories and the book exactly catered to my demands. The book consists of 13 stories and each page of every story has the reader in its grasp. The book has characters that are not out of the ordinary but are simple people from all walks of life, people whom we may have seen or come across in our own lives. The characterization in the book is something that brings the stories to life. From the highs and lows of friendship to the story of an amputee to talking on topics like prostitution, rape, and eunuchs, this book is an amazing amalgamation of fiction blending with incidents. Each story leaves the reader asking for more. Needless to say that the book is hard to put down once you start with it. The sheer level of storytelling is mesmerizing in itself, and personally, I enjoyed reading the story: ‘Eunuch Homes’ the most. I have no qualms in saying that it’s been a long time since I have picked up a great book of short stories and thank god I did it now!
The professional designing of the book is worth mentioning too, as it should be noted that if the book isn't designed properly then there are issues related to the compatibility of the ebook with the device on which it is read. Lab Academia needs to be applauded here for a smooth presentation of the book; moreover, the cover design is subtle and attractive which makes the book all the more appealing to the readers.
This book ticks all the boxes of being a great collection of short stories and it is definitely worth the read. I would gladly recommend it to people looking for an appropriate book to curl up with.

In the modern world that is so fast paced, and based on shortcuts it is a well known fact that if u make an 8 hour long movie, nobody would watch take the same story and make into episodes of one hour each and the viewer would watch it straight through, the same philosophy works out to be true in the world of books too especially when we talk about readers who have just started out on their journey to read, books that are, stories that are addictive is the perfect blend always. Love and Other Demons, the untold tales By Paras, is one such wonderful lazy Sunday read, that is going to keep the readers hooked on from the first page to the last, the book is a collection of 13 stories, beautifully penned emotions, from the viewpoint of every character, lets you travel through the world and words, and the different perspectives of each , gliding flawlessly, as the name suggests love and other demons refers to not the straightforwardness of a love story, but deals with the manifold layers of the emotion of love, and the different ways it exists around us, sometimes in a positive way, at other times a negative one, the stories are characterised with people from every walk of life, the reader would have zero complications imagining because we all at some point or the other have known such characters or seen them in real life, which makes it easier to connect to them. As a reader I can say that the topics dealt with in the form of short stories are rather bold yet not for once would you able to take your eyes off the story, or not think of the topics, there is a story of the changing relationship dynamics of a mother and a son, there is a story about the world of enunchs, there is a story that deals with domestic violence and its various aspects, and make the reader surely spend time thinking about them way after the stories end. The book does not preach it rather presents you with a variety of different thoughts, thoughts that provoke u to look at society in a different light, and evolve as a human. I give the book 5 on 5 for its excellent writing in dealing with topics. I highly recommend everyone on a lookout of a great short compilation.
Many of us have special memories of the books that have inspired us, and have learned the profound effect that reading the right book can have at the right moment. Books have the power to transport us to new worlds and different times, but they can also take us back to the important moments in our own lives. From building your vocabulary to reducing stress, preventing age-related cognitive decline and increasing your ability to empathize, reading books is an easy way to look after your mind and body.
Whether you’re an avid reader or wish you read more, I really must emphasise greatly over my suggestion to you, to read Love and other Demons: The untold tales by the very audacious author Paras, a consummate at skilfully playing along with emotions, ofcourse by his pen. A compilation of 13 stories by him envisages human emotions, relationships, life, prostitution, breaking stereotypes etc.
The characters of his stories, though just in silent depiction speak a million words. Those are as if, they are people round the corner in your very own environment. People, facts and happenings with which you can actually correlate.
The story Kisna literally made me go numb. I was shook as the story took such intense sentimental turns. It made me shiver, the mere thought of losing someone to death, that too a kid who is the apple of your eye. My blood went cold for a pretty good time. This particular story would last in my mind, like forever. Ingrained into my head and heart, such was its impact.
I can not elaborate on how beautifully every story has been forth. Everything about this book is just so magical. Most importantly, these are some very precise and creative yet life-drawn pieces that wind up well and even keep your eyes glued throughout as the story proceeds. This book is really a must read. I would also like to congratulate the publisher Lab Academia for doing a fabulous job of publishing this book, their contribution has added to its exquisiteness. This book is really a must read.
#LITEROMA Book Review :: 'The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons' by Paras
** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. **
‘The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons’ by author Paras is a collection of thirteen short stories which are mostly different human tales with daily life set at the backdrop. But this 'daily life' of whom is the main twist of this book. To quote the author, "It has characters from all walks of life, many of them, we may even have come across. A boy who is amputee, highs and lows of friendship, a guy who leaves home and join eunuchs, a home-maker suffering from domestic violence, travel restrictions during covid-19, life and struggle of someone in prostitution, an insane doctor, mother-son relationship and so on."
It took me almost over a week to finish reading the book. Each story comprises of relatable characters and also narrates lucid sagas in a less complicated manner. However, one story which really stands out is '28 years' which happens to be the first story of the book. This tale explores the changing dynamics of a mother-son relationship over a period of time.
The book cover is apt to its contents, however, the aspect which acts as the experience spoiler of avid readers like me is the quality of editing. In multiple sentences consecutive words got compressed together without any space. However, the simplicity and the less-preachy approach of the book makes up for it to a large extent. It is highly suggested to author to get it edited and republished for a better reading experience.
It scores 3.3*/5*. This book is recommended for those who like to read stories on social topics and simple story lines.
The book contains 13 short stories, each of them are connecting. I am glad that I got an opportunity to read them. It was a mixed experience, I felt, happy, surprised, thrilled, horrified, secured, thankful, and lovely while reading the book. Each story has a different aspect and gave different perspective and emotions to look into, while reading I could feel the author's love for Baani, Sahiba's hatred for Uncle Puri, insecure RV, and a lot more emotions all while reading the stories.
The story I loved the most out of the thirteen is 'SATTI WIFE'. The honesty, vulnerability, and mindfulness of the narrator wins all of our heart. It was an enriching experience while reading this book. The lessons were not just for reading, it gave me direction to think about the situations it had in the story. it showed me how life can be at some point of time, but we should not lose our hope and keep working for the best. I would like to quote a line from the chapter, it is as follows:
"Love is priceless when she makes you feel special at every moment of life."
The title, 'The Untold Tales- Love and other Demons' is one of the reason, I chose this book to read from the whole lists of books. It was unique and it suits the book. I would like to bring this to the notice, the book is written in very simple words and with the right choice of vocabulary. I'm glad that I read this fantastic book. Now, I would recommend it to my family and friends. This will help them to expand the horizon of their restricted mindset.
Love and Other Demons: The untold tales. What a masterpiece! A collection of 13 short stories, this book by author Paras is an excellent piece of work. Frankly speaking reading novels, particularly those dealing in stories has forever been an arduous task for me. But following a friend's recommendation, I just went on to catch up to this one. To my utter amazement, I fell in awe and you will too. I can vouch for that.
The author's technique of drafting every single story is magnificent. The titles given to every story are so eye catchy that it somewhere pushes you to read them, even if it is for once. Saying this, as there were some I even read twice. The stories felt like gliding with innumerable emotions.
It talks about unconditional love, crimes against children, friendship, emotions and a bit distinct from the cliche, that is prostitution. The work done by Paras in organising this book is commendable and worth- appreciating. Moreover, every story, its protagonists very strongly appears, as if it has been pretty close in vicinity to the author or his life.
The presentation style, titles, vocabulary everything is one notch above my expectations, trust me. I would also like to appreciate Lab Academia Publication for all the icing that they have put on the cake. The efforts of finally taking this book out on the shelf is pretty commendable.
LOVE AND OTHER DEMONS, THE UNTOLD TALES is third solo book by the author PARAS, who is a very keen writer, since 2010. He wholeheartedly dedicated this book to Kisna(protagonist), a dear family member who lost his life in an incident that took place many years ago. The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons is published by Lab Academia Research and Publication Center, Prayagraj The author may be a passionate writer and has his work published in quite few books and magazines. The book LOVE AND DEMONS is a masterpiece as it consists of compilation of 13 different stories with an eye catchy titles and every page of each story has the reader in its grasp. The author wrote every story in a perfecto manner that relates about things that are happening around us. One could walk in the shoes of different characters as the characters portraited in these stories are much relatable. The book has ordinary characters and they are simple people from all walks of life, people whom we may have seen or encounter in our own lives. As the name suggests – THE UNTOLD TALES, this book is a blend of short thrillers with a twisted plots and an unpredictable endings. The author has concentrated on something which is more meaningful as he in this book writes about un-conditional love, daily situations faced by children, the most heinous crime - rape, mother- son relationship, pros and cons of being in a business, friendship, prostitution, etc. If you are keen to read more about these dynamics? The narration of all the stories are simple, no typical words are used. A perfect blend of emotions, actions and consequences. The Untold Tales narrates stories about men and women who are similar to you and me yet there is a hidden aspect to their personality that makes them different! Among all the 13 stories the second story titled- IF I HAD A LAST WISH was mine favourite one as it revolves around the rape victim. Yes the rape victim. Rape’ is the only word which horrifies, but what if the protagonist was a child? A girl went through the traumatic experience of child abuse by a close relative when she was eight. She was a sufferer, a survivor, a fighter, a thinker and a murder planner. She took six years to understand what exactly had happened with her. I am much amazed by the way Paras had portrait the wide expansion of different experiences in each story with the diverted characters.
“The Untold Tales: Love And Other Demons” is anthology of thirteen short stories written by Paras. It is a cornucopia of short stories which are unique in their presentation with something that touches everyone.
From a revenge seeker Sahiba who was molested by her uncle in “If I Had a Wish” to the woman who is tricked in prostitution by her husband in “Love In Prostitution”. Every story is a gem. Each reveals a facet of human nature, whether it be curiosity, bravado, or frustration. And each tale has a twist, with the main character given a choice – the safe choice or the morally ruinous one. The subject always chooses the interesting one – one we identify with but are too righteous to choose.
Taking in such underlying themes as love, loss and loneliness, with appreciable economy of words used in describing complex events and emotions. These are great stories of love and courage, challenges and rewards set in unforgettably described places and times. The characters are interesting and spring to life with grace and ease and leave indelible images. Overall, this is a great collection to read, and is sure to go down well with those who like to read short stories.

The author skillfully weaves together narratives that explore the complexities of love, loss, and societal challenges, from the struggles of an amputee to the harsh realities of domestic violence and the nuanced lives of those in marginalized communities.
Paras’s writing is both accessible and impactful, drawing readers into the emotional landscapes of each character. This book powerfully reminds us of the diverse and often hidden stories that shape our world. Paras’s ability to create relatable characters and explore complex themes makes The Untold Tales a valuable and moving collection that will leave a lasting impression on readers.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and stories that hit close to home. Each short story dives into raw, real-life situations—like an amputee boy trying to navigate life, a homemaker stuck in a cycle of domestic abuse, or a man leaving his world behind to join the eunuchs. These aren’t your everyday stories; they explore the corners of life we rarely talk about.
The insane doctor’s story? Absolutely gripping—it really makes you question the line between sanity and madness. And the mother-son relationship? So moving and tender, it stays with you. What I loved most is how the book doesn’t shy away from hard truths—rape, prostitution, old age struggles—but still manages to shine a light on hope and kindness.
If you’re into stories that make you think, feel, and see the world differently, this one’s worth picking up.
The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons is a book which is full of stories which we see happening around us everyday and we all are aware of it, it's just we all find a way to ignore all those because nowadays we all are busy in ourselves. It has 13 short stories which will tell you about friendship, love, losing of loved one, mother relationship, life during the pandemic, domestic violence, rape, prostitution and what not. This book is perfect mixture of every feelings in it. You can see your own life unfolding through these small stories and some you'll find it so relatable.
The language of the book is very rich and I picked up this book because it has short stories and I was finding short stories book since very long, finally I picked this one and I am glad that I didn't regret giving time to this book. If You're fond of Small and light read, you'll surely love this. Recommended to all.
The Untold Tales: Love and other Demons book authored by Paras is a book of unique short stories.
Book has 13 unique stories of various themes such as love, friendship, Covid 19 pandemic and more. As the themes vary so are the emotions/ feelings readers experience and left in the end. Do not want to give away the plot of any of them so grab a copy to know more. Stories penned are not interrelated so can be read at ease, narration is such that readers get easily connected to plot and characters. Language is super easy too.
Some of the stories would definitely help readers too, all of them are entertaining so would recommend to fiction lovers.
Well, how long has it been since you've last checked out with a doc for the inability of sleeping at nights? A question out of the blue seems to be weirdly awkward right? Rape is the term which brought me here. While the country has witnessed enough of cases and still witnessing them, it's like a system which has hanged now like a software and the corrupting process is on a widespread. With horrifying as well as the ones which could bring solace, this book works in a form of multiple personality disorder like thing where one page is easily acceptable and the very next one, delivers pain to the soul. I liked the concept made available in this book every nook and corner decorated in order to make the reader feel comfortable reading and experiencing the entire journey. Although the book easily felt relatable, I've also noticed how author's personal experience is visible thoroughly throughout the read where the plotline is well executed and in a manner quite appreciable, the stories have been lined up. Speaking of the cover and the title, both demands an upgrade even though they are relatable to a certain extent with the content narrated.
"The Untold Tales: Love and Other Demons is a collection of short stories exploring human emotions and societal struggles. The book presents diverse characters, including an amputee, a homemaker facing domestic violence, and a man joining eunuchs, portraying resilience and hope.
It raises thought-provoking questions on love, hope, and survival. The engaging narrative balances heavy themes with warmth, making it impactful. Though intense, the stories foster awareness and empathy. A gripping read for those who appreciate deep, emotional storytelling that challenges perspectives.
This is not merely a 104 pages book. It is a masterpiece. The impact it leaves on the reader is what it makes this book amazing. To be frank, I did not expect so much from the book and considered it to be a ordinary love tale. I was completely wrong. This is much more than just a love tale. It is full of emotions and certainly going to bring out various emotions in you and will leave an impact on you. The stories are very realistic and something which we often here about day to day. The story of an eight year old girl getting sexually abused by her own relative left me shocked. I felt disgusted and helpless at the same time. This is something that happens in our society very often and the kid is traumatized for the rest of her life. Then there is a story of love and separation. In total there are 13 different short stories. The writing style is simple. The language is lucid and easily understandable. It was an amazing read for me. Highly Recommended, Happy Reading.
Some stories entertain; others challenge your perception of life. Paras’s Love and Other Demons: The Untold Tales belongs to the latter category. This third solo work by the author is a thought-provoking collection of 13 stories that explore the hidden corners of human experiences. Paras, a passionate writer since 2010, has used his talent to amplify voices often left unheard, offering a fresh lens to view the world.
This isn’t your typical short story collection. It features characters from diverse walks of life—a child abuse survivor seeking justice, a homemaker trapped in domestic violence, a man who chooses life among eunuchs, and even a doctor battling insanity. Set against backdrops like the COVID-19 pandemic and the harsh realities of prostitution, each story peels back layers of humanity with gripping unpredictability. Themes of hope, revenge, and resilience thread through these pages, making them unforgettable.
Paras’s writing is refreshingly simple yet profoundly impactful. There’s no unnecessary ornamentation; instead, his prose cuts straight to the heart of the matter. He balances emotion and narrative skillfully, ensuring every word contributes to the story. The vivid imagery and conversational tone make you feel like you’re living each tale, not just reading it.
The characters are the soul of this collection. They’re not superheroes but everyday people grappling with extraordinary circumstances. From the vulnerable yet fierce rape survivor in If I Had a Last Wish to the complexities of a mother-son bond, each character is multi-dimensional and painfully real. Paras’s ability to step into their shoes and voice their struggles is nothing short of remarkable.
The structure is tight and well-executed, with each story having a distinct flavor while contributing to the book's overarching exploration of human emotions. Paras keeps the pacing sharp, offering twists and turns that catch you off guard. The seamless transitions between heavy, thought-provoking themes and lighter, hopeful moments ensure the book never feels monotonous.
This book delves into societal taboos like rape, prostitution, and domestic violence while shedding light on universal truths like the power of hope and unconditional love. Paras doesn’t preach; he presents raw, unfiltered realities, leaving the reader to draw their own conclusions. These stories don’t just tell; they provoke reflection on the world around us.
Few books can stir emotions as this one does. I felt anger, sadness, hope, and even a strange sense of triumph while reading. Stories like Love in Prostitution and If I Had a Last Wish left me breathless with their intensity. It’s rare to find a book that makes you pause, reflect, and even shed a tear.
Paras’s storytelling stands out for its relatability and raw honesty. The characters are so lifelike that you feel their struggles and victories as your own. The balance of simplicity and depth in the prose makes it accessible to a wide audience.
While most stories hit the mark, a few felt like they needed more space to fully develop their ideas. Some themes were so rich they could have been expanded into standalone novellas.
This book struck a deeply personal chord with me. The resilience of the characters and the themes of justice and hope resonated profoundly. Paras’s portrayal of societal issues feels like a much-needed spotlight on topics often brushed under the carpet.
Paras has created a masterpiece of human emotion and resilience with Love and Other Demons: The Untold Tales. It’s a book that challenges, moves, and inspires. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories that make you feel and think deeply. This isn’t just a read; it’s an experience.
"A raw and unfiltered exploration of the human condition—love, pain, survival, and the shadows that linger in between."

The Untold Tales: Love and Other Demons By Paras Review By Ila Garg
‘The Untold Tales: Love and Other Demons’ by Paras is an anthology of 13 short stories. Each story covers a different aspect—the highs and lows of relations are explicitly described. From the struggles in the life of a prostitute to the dynamics of mother-son relationship, all are given space in the book.
Through these stories, the readers will feel how impactful choices and decisions are in deciding the course of one’s life. The humdrum of day-to-day life got a twist and reflection in these 13 tales.
The blurb reads as, "It is a short story book that has characters from all walks of life, many of them, we may even have come across. A boy who is amputee, highs and lows of friendship, a guy who leaves home and join eunuchs, a home-maker suffering from domestic violence, travel restrictions during Covid-19, life and struggle of someone in prostitution, an insane doctor, mother-son relationship and so on. The pandemic (Covid-19) has taken numerous lives but have you ever heard of giving a life to someone? Love is blind, but what’s the maximum extent, is it Prostitution? Do you want to be a Doctor, Scientist, Businessman but do you want to be a member of the eunuch homes? “Hope” is the only intangible asset which never lets you down. Old age parental care is tough but it leads to murder, find out how? Kindness always pays in the long run, but Beware it can be hazardous sometimes. ‘Rape’ is the only word which horrifies, but what if the protagonist was a child? Love bites are never the omen of love. Are you keen to read more about these dynamics? Find out for yourself!"
The language is kept quite simple, making it an easy read for even readers who aren’t so well-versed with English language. The tone is light, however, overall it’s an emotional rollercoaster experience. The best and worst sides of mankind are exposed in each of the tale with some hard-hitting lessons.
The traumatic experiences of child abuse, the struggles of an amputee, the life of eunuchs, and the events in the life of an insane doctor come to forth through Paras’s words. Some social issues like domestic violence, rape and prostitution are also included in the book.
As an English editor, it was difficult for me to get through the book as there were innumerable grammatical and spelling errors. This marred the entire experience of book reading for me and I couldn’t help but cringe at every word—so much so that I wanted to stop and tell the author to go for a reprint with proper edits.

Being a writer, i love to read out new books and all the time i start my search for the same initially i notices the name of the book and what it describes out or hides within. Recently i came across with this beautiful book named Love and other Demons : The untold tales by an amazing writer Paras. The name itself is describing the book.
I picked up to read it and to my surprise it is an incredibly vocabularized with some very simple words knitted in with very deep thoughts which are easily understandable and the stories written in it will force you to think about the illness of our sterotype and narrow minded society, will driven you to phase of facing the fear of losing someone right infront of your eyes, the power of money will make you shaken as hell , desires wrapped up in name of love bites and the trust which can destroy you for forever.
Some of the stories such as Love in Prostitution, Tattoo Doctor, Eunuch homes, Love bites, If i had a last wish are which made me go numb for a second and imprinted an unerasable impact on my soul for forever.
Though these stories are just an imagination but the characters played by Uncle Puri with his brother's daughter, Tattoo doctor with his wife and when Honey asks his wife to come into Prostitution business will potray the real faces of demons which are nurtured somewhere in our society will be right infront of your eyes at once you will read them.
This book is surely a masterpiece published under Lab Academia. I would like to congratulate author Paras and team members for such a great work. All the 13 stories are more than imagination and far more than words. If you are looking for some fresh content to consume than go for this book. This book doesn't lecture. It helps the perusers in advancing personally. The tales have an enduring effect and have high entrance esteem. The book is a decent perused. I would suggest it as an unquestionable requirement to read the book. I am colossally delighted in perusing the book. I anticipate more books created by him later on.
the book comprises 13 stories and each page of each story has the peruser in its grip. The book has characters that are not strange yet are straightforward individuals from varying backgrounds, individuals whom we may have seen or gone over in our own lives. The portrayal in the book is something that rejuvenates the narratives. From the highs and lows of kinship to the narrative of an amputee to chatting on subjects like prostitution, assault, and eunuchs, this book is an astonishing mixture of fiction mixing with episodes. The primary story depicts the feelings and mind of a child so perfectly that the peruser is moved to an alternate world. The feeling of retribution, however extremely serious and complex, is managed flawlessly by the creator in the second story. The third story is contemporary to the point that the peruser can relate effectively because of the overarching pandemic. The creator has managed the feelings and agony related to abusive behavior at home and depicted love from various points. Perusers will have goosebumps while going through Love in prostitution. To cite the creator, "It has characters from all walks of life, many of them, we may even have come across. A boy who is an amputee, highs, and lows of friendship, a guy who leaves home and joins eunuchs, home-maker suffering from domestic violence, travel restrictions during covid-19, life and struggle of someone in prostitution, an insane doctor, mother-son relationship, and so on."
The Pandemic has definitely succumbed us to our homes but simultaneously we have developed a close- knit relationship with books. This is the time we get hold of a book and dive in the world of stories. 'Love and Other Demons- The Untold Tales' is certainly one of the biggest catch for the book lovers.
While reading this book I realised that it is truly binge worthy. Paras, the author himself states that it took him four years to complete the book which not only made him polish the stories but also changed his thoughts from being a quitter to a successful writer. The stories are from the different folks of life but when you begin reading, you unknowingly become the protagonist.
The narrative develops and unwinds human strengths, weaknesses and foibles unexpectedly. The author's skillful writing creates enduring heroes. Gritty and intriguing, the stories continue to hold your attention without letting you feel the pain of the ruthless world. The language of the book is emphatic and eloquent. It can be easily read and appreciated by any age group.
The title of the book itself fascinates the readers as somewhere or the other it deduces that "Love" also belongs to the demon clan. Each and every story in this book has a captivating title which compels you to read. My favourite among all is 'Satti Wife' where Baanii, the wife of the protagonist makes endless efforts to run a household alongwith a bed-ridden husband and two kids. Her hard-earned endeavours even could not let the ends meet.
Love and Demons are inseparable parts of our life as light and darkness. For experiencing both in league I recommend the readers to positively read 'Love and Other Demons- The Untold Tales' by Paras. I give it a 5/5 rating as it keeps you engrossed till the end.
About The Book: This book is a compilation of thirteen short stories. Each short story is very different and deals with different emotions. All the stories are very different from each other and this kind of pallet shows the range the author is capable of. Honestly this compilation will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. But as a reader I can’t overlook the mature writing style and editing mistakes in the book. If you are an avid reader then you will definitely be bothered by the mistakes and writing style.
Pro: The most interesting thing about the book is the stories…. They are fresh and raw and very edgy. They will in no shape, way, or form remind you of all the generic stories and give you something that will force you to think that the world is not always about happy endings.
Con: The most important con as a reader I felt is the unpolished product. You find yourself consumed by the story and then suddenly find an error that pulls you out of the story and focus on the writing. And it's not just the grammatical mistakes but the writing style at times feels very immature and untamed. This book could have been a book of the month for me if it was slightly more polished. And also there are some stereotypical takes on issues that feel very outdated and one would expect a more liberal take on some of the issues dealt in the story.
About the Author: The author Paras has written and published two novels earlier and by the information I was able to find ( and by this I mean the author page in the book, because there is no other information available) this seems like a third book. And there is not much information about him available on the internet but his two previous books were One Salty Soda, Two Sizzling Drinks and Hues of Modern Love.
Final Words: For me this book was not more than 2.5 out of 5. And this rating is just because of the freshness of the story. A book can not be judged on just the stories or the writing style. To be considered a good book, both the story and the writing style have to be good if not perfect. But because of the awkward writing of the book I must say this book even with the beautiful stories didn’t work for me.
I’ve always turned to short stories to break out of a reading slump, and The Untold Tales: Love and Other Demons by Paras was the perfect pick to reignite my love for reading. This collection of 13 thought-provoking tales explores a wide spectrum of human emotions and experiences, making it both diverse and deeply engaging. Each story holds a mirror to the realities around us, touching on themes such as friendship, love, resilience, and survival, along with heavier topics like domestic violence, child abuse, and the stigmas surrounding prostitution.
What truly sets this book apart is its ability to draw you into the lives of its characters. Paras has crafted a lineup of relatable, well-developed individuals whose struggles and triumphs feel strikingly real. Whether it’s a mother navigating an emotionally strained relationship with her son or a young girl fighting to heal from unspeakable trauma, each character is distinct and compelling. The variety in settings and storylines—from the challenges posed by COVID-19 travel restrictions to the painful introspection of an amputee—ensures that there’s something for every reader to connect with.
The emotional rollercoaster that these stories take you on is remarkable. At one moment, you might feel inspired by an act of kindness; the next, you’re grappling with the stark reality of human suffering. However, this intensity is balanced by Paras’s simple and accessible writing style, making the book especially suitable for beginners. It doesn’t overwhelm with complexity, allowing readers to focus on the emotions and lessons embedded in each story. That said, a more refined editing process could have elevated the book further, ironing out minor inconsistencies to enhance the reading experience.
For anyone who enjoys short stories or is intrigued by the themes of resilience, justice, and human connection, The Untold Tales is a worthwhile read. It’s a collection that not only entertains but also encourages reflection, making it an ideal choice for readers looking to immerse themselves in meaningful, heartfelt storytelling.
This book is a collection of 13 diverse short stories, each carrying its own unique color and fragrance. The stories explore various facets of life—such as the burden of a loving son, the pain of a victim, the return of an illegal immigrant with COVID, and nature’s motivation on a rainy day. Every tale captures a different emotion, making this collection a mosaic of human experiences.
The love stories in this book are particularly intriguing. In one, a husband asks his wife—whom he deeply loves—to enter the flesh trade, and she agrees, for she loves him even more. In another, a girl realizes her lover is an insecure fool and plans to leave him, but he outsmarts her by inking her permanently before setting her free.
I enjoyed each story, but these four will always remain special to me:
1. 28 Years – This is a touching story about the lifelong bond between a son and his mother. It follows a family that has endured life’s hardships together, only for the sexagenarian son to make a forceful decision for his nonagenarian mother—one that borders on crime. Is it a sin, or is it mercy?
2. If I Had a Last Wish – A heart-wrenching tale of a child whose silent cries for help went unnoticed. Decades later, after years of self-inflicted pain, she finally avenges her suffering. Had people recognized her silent agony in childhood, would she have turned into a murderer? Is her crime truly hers, or is it the sin of those who ignored her pain?
3. That Half Kindness – This was my favorite story. The world often sees women as damsels in distress, but here, she is the devil. Never misjudge a flower.
4. Love Bites – A story that resonates with many households. Every husband loves his wife, but how many truly understand her emotional and physical needs? Too often, men fail to notice when their touch is welcomed and when it is endured in pain. Marital rape remains one of the most overlooked yet most horrifying forms of abuse.
On the whole, this book is like a garden filled with colorful butterflies—each story offering something fresh and beautiful. Every reader who cherishes the magic of short stories should not miss this book.
This book contains 13 short stories. Each story has the perfect blend of love, emotion, rape, abuse, and others daily uncertain situations happening around us. The book title is perfectly related to the inside shorts story. Every story has a twisted plot and unpredictable ending like we are seeing in some Bengali novels and short stories. Let's take an example of the first one, where the author shows a relationship and bonding of a son and mother, where both stand for each other’s hard times as a backup and give emotional as well as financial support. But after few years life takes a sorrowful turn which destroys everything. Let's come to the 2nd story of the book, which is based on a rape victim. Rape is a word that is enough to horrify anyone, what if the victim is a child that too at the age of eight. A small girl went through such a traumatic experience of child abuse by a close relative, which destroyed her child's life. She went through an unimaginable hard time in her life when normal child spent their life in reading, playing, and enjoying childhood. It takes six years to understand her, what exactly happened with her. As I told you all earlier that each story has an unpredictable and twisted ending, “Kisna” story has the same grief and sad endings. Kisna, a boy of eight years old comes to his native place when something terrible incident happens which shatters everyone in the family. A birthday party turns into a mournful place within few minutes. This story of kisna may be related to the author's personnel life and my deep condolence with him. Each story has its unique grip, which holds you till the end of that story. Language is simple and can complete it in a single sit. I don’t want to reveal much more about any story here and tell you all one thing, just go for the book and you will like it. There are some grammatical errors in the whole book and need editing. I suggest the author edit it once again and re-publish the book.
The Untold Stories: Love and Other Demons is a book full of life, the stories cover a wide range of experiences from the highs and lows of friendship, a relationship of mother & son, struggle during Covid-19 Pandemic to serious topics like domestic violence, prostitution and rape. There are stories talking about an amputee, eunuchs, and also an insane doctor. So, when you pick up this book, you’re in for an emotional rollercoaster ride. The book shows you the best and the worst extremes of humans with stories that are a blend of different emotions and consequences. The one-story which really got stuck in my mind was about a girl who went through the traumatic experience of child abuse by a close relative when she was eight, this particular story titled If I had a Last wish, was hard-hitting and it stayed with me even after when I was done reading the book.
The writing is very simple and easy to understand, so even the people who are not avid readers or are just getting into the hobby of reading will enjoy it, but hardcore readers will not enjoy the writing as much, as it’s plain simple and won’t challenge their inner reader. But anyway, simple stories with simple writing will be enjoyable to most people. One thing which I did not like about this book was several grammatical and spelling errors. I wished the editorial team have had done better proofreading before publishing it, because such errors make the product look poor, no matter how good the stories are. Apart from that, the book was a breeze and a quick read for me, I liked the theme and characters overall and I also enjoyed the storytelling, even though most of the stories are emotionally overwhelming. I wish all the best to the author Paras and hope he will keep entertaining us with his writing in the future.
