Read this and felt it was very average but then I did a little a yoga, skipped some rope and I couldn't stop thinking of the questions this issue brought up
- has Hope ever asked the council to bring back Old Cable? - when Hope was asked to be part of the 5, why wasn't her first instinct to bring back Old Cable - What was Emma drinking? - If Esme is mad at Cable, does it mean the rest are mad as well? - What did Cable see in Esme, that he didn't see in the others? - If young Cable dies, what version of Cable would the 5 restore? - do people die of old age in Krakoa? Do they have the option to die before they get old? - damn Time Travel and clones really mess up the ressurection protocals, is that what Moira was so weary about? - why did it have to be Scott and not a Swordbeared from Arakko , that was sent to settle the problem in London
Oh, the long standing tradition of terrible and/or horribly misunderstood British accents in X-Men comics continues...as people in this comic conflate English and Scottish accents multiple times. Which might be more excusable if Marvel didn't have so many Brits writing for them. But never mind...
Cable continues to angst about Stryfe and seems to have made the decision to part ways with Krakoa and return to his own time, although Scott Summers is in full on dad mode and refuses to listen to his son.
Meanwhile we discover that the older version of Cable is not only not dead (which we knew) but appears to be in Limbo (which we didn't). He also has the Light of Galador... which is the sword usually wielded by his younger self. So is the older Cable just the younger Cable grown up? I mean, on one level of course he is...but it's all timey wimey and stuff, so that question actually makes some sense. I think. Maybe.
The art is, as ever, superb. I suspect that this title is building to a finale, and that young Cable will be getting replaced by old Cable, and probably a new #1. But we shall see...
While I have to admit I don't put much mental energy into analyzing Cable's duplication slash time-jumping shenanigans so whenever those pesky things called The Plot show themselves I just go along with the ride, these books are getting more fun. I enjoyed the jokes here especially with Mother Hen Emma gleefully derailing Cable's efforts with Esme.
Interesting names for our new Arakkii characters: Castor and Pollux, from the constellation Gemini, and of course Greek mythology. Do they have their own version of Greece in that world? Also why does Castor look like Dafydd, the only gay in the village? 😂

🤔 Time travel makes things confusing. Krakoa Cable wants to resurrect the "other guy", Classic Cable. Because Classic Cable's clone Stryfe has time traveled to the present to kidnap mutant babies and generally be a evil pain in the ass. Cyclops apparently prefers Krakoa Cable to stay and not be replaced by Cable Classic for some reason that probably has to do love or at least attachment. Krakoa Cable is by far the more son-like of the Cables he's encountered since sending infant Cable to the future. There's more clones of Cable running around causing mayhem as well but Domino presumably killed them all. I guess we'll find out. It could have been a boring drawn out conversation between Cyclops and Krakoa Cable but instead father and son kick some drunk Arraki ass, which is fun to read. Then we get a glimpse of Krakoa Cable all grown up. My assumption here is that eventually Krakoa Cable's older self will journey to the present since Cable Classic is staying in his coffin with Deadpool on Staten Island. I enjoyed this one. Especially the addition of the Arrakis.
We know it's building toward the Stryfe showdown but it's oh so pointlessly slow. Cable even admits himself that he's dealing with too much..... So let's go deal with a bar room brawl....
I'm beginning to suspect that the single issue series have been told to spin out whatever stories of their own they are trying to tell and deal with them after the Gala event but it's a lot of filler recently and in such a tightly controlled arc by Hickman I would have expected them to be better at starting and finishing tales.
The DC approach of, generally, starting and finishing arcs in around 6/7 issues is good. Looking at the new X launch you have X-Men which has never had an arc, Cable never finished anything, Marauders never finished anything, Wolverine never finished anything. Probably only new mutants and Excalibur have actually finished a story arc to date.
Anyhow, the one thing in this series favour is the art but it's slow going.
The art is great as always. The backstory started to get really annoying but then finally they dumped an info page that seems to explain a little bit of the pre-coa history of this character. I really hope that stuff starts to make sense soon.
