Silas Creswell was the nightmare I wanted to escape, but kept falling back into.
The mind is a beautiful thing.
Bullshit.
The mind was a toxic waste land of nightmares and misery. My cousin Finn suffered from the plague of memories every time he closed his eyes. His ghosts haunted his every thought, while mine moved in next door.
Star Chadwick wasn't the little girl I met on the beach ten years ago. She was broken, beautiful, and pissing me off. My entire life I heard her words when my dad drove me to be better. Do better. Become the best. And now she was here. Taunting me from the window next door.
There was one good thing about the voice haunting my thoughts becoming real...
I couldn't hurt a ghost.
A fresh start, that's what my parents called the move, and that's what I tried to do.
I left my past back in England and reinvented myself. Became the person I destroyed. Someone kind and thoughtful. The friendly girl who thought of others.
Then I met him.
Silas Creswell, my new arsehole neighbor. He hated me more than I hated myself. I fought to keep the old Star away. Fought back my urges to destroy his perfect little life. Except it wasn't just him. The entire town of Ashen Springs was as corrupt and wrong as the people in it.
All I wanted to do was save one girl. If Harper couldn't stand up for herself, then I'd do it for her. Because if I'd learned anything from what happened.
It was that karma's a bitch.
This book contains intense situations. If you are a reader sensitive to such material, please heed the author's warning in the front of the book.
Style: Dark Romance (High School) Story: 2/5 Enjoyment: 2/5 Dark Level: 1/5 Sexual Level: OK Triggers: Yes Violence: No Male: Sexy Series: Book 4 Pages: 424 Audio: N/A Kindle Unlimited: Yes
STORY: I was very disappointed. This book doesn’t feel like it belongs in the series. You read books 1,2 and a tiny bit of 3, I got dark intense male characters, I get to know a little about their secret society and the sex was crazy. But book 4, it was too nice for me. Silas was a little intense, but he was not all the way there giving me what I needed. Star was feisty when she needed to be, but something was just missing. The storyline wasn’t that bad, but some parts got my pulse beating a bit, but majority of the book felt like it was going in circles and I kept losing interest.
I was so disappointed that I felt this could not be the same author that wrote book one. I remember having that feeling in book 1 that the author went rogue writing that book. It was crazy, dark, and really got me excited.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY: I can not believe I am saying this with this author, but the sex scenes were just ok. She always had that gasping factor hidden somewhere, and she always goes there. She played it safe here. The build up was too long that I was over it. ***SPOILER*** They didn’t actually have sex until 84%.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: I loved Mason in books 1 and 2. Am I still looking forward to his story? Yes. But in this book, he just felt ok. He was missing that intensity that he had in the other 2 books. I am over the tease of Mason and Harper and need to read them ASAP. I just don’t want to lose interest before their story comes out.
OVERALL: Very disappointed.
TRIGGERS:
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
After a brief meeting as children, Accident-Prone follows the now older, Silas Creswell and Star Chadwick.
With a full-blown bully/enemies-to-lovers situation, there is a slooooo build-up for their relationship and the angst is enough to drive you to madness.
These two are both characters you’ll love to hate. Silas with his broody and dominant personality and the stubborn Star with her sassy mouth. The Order of Ravens & Wolves series has been strong all the way through with a compelling and suspenseful underlying storyline tempered with humor, steam, and a myriad twists and turns. Slow burns are not my jam so the pacing was off for me, but I can appreciate the way their story needed to play out.
Oh my, who would have expected that I’d like Silas so much.
Silas meets Star in their youths but is put off by her, at the time, caustic and scornful personality, a socialite bully. Years later he meets the witch, as he refers to her, and vows to serve her justice despite her now nice demeanor. And so the story unfolds.
Besides a great story, it contains the author’s characteristics humor, essentially an excellent storyline of dark elements tempered with humor. And for me raucous humor. I was crying with the ostrich made an appearance, the cookies and the condoms. Hilarious. Add to that the charming characters of the series — best friend Mason along with glimpses of Lana, Parker, Harper, Lou, and I found myself highly entertained. In this book, the author does a great job of reminding the reader of their histories and connections, so that it could be read as a stand-alone, but of course, is enriched by reading the series in order.
Slow to medium burn, enjoyable pace with an element of mystery, again as is typical in this series. Silas and Star’s building chemistry was hot! They were so suited for each other. Another great book in the Order and Ravens series. I can’t wait to read about more characters.
I was pleasantly surprised by Silas. He’s always been in the background in the other books in this series; all we really knew was that he was Mason’s best friend. There is so much more to him! He’s moody, angry, he has a stick up his butt, but he is quite possibly the sweetest and most caring of all the guys yet; I say yet because there is still more to come. We see him at his most vulnerable; we see his relationship with Mason and how they interact, which is hilarious; and then we see how he is with Star. Yes, he’s just as controlling as the rest of the lot but he’s very gentle with her as well. I’m just going to say that Silas worked his way into my heart, he’s definitely one of my favorite characters, he’s going to be hard to beat. And then there’s Star. Star is wild and broken and I just feel horrible for how her life played out but she’s determined to be better, do better. I feel like she follows her heart but more craziness comes into her life, and a lot of it is because of Silas. I laughed, I cried, laughed even more, then there’s the “awww moments”. Of course, some of our favorite people make appearances. And it wouldn’t be a Tara book without more mysterious happenings. If you like her other books, you will love this book, trust me!
I really wanted to hate this Hero and his heroine. He hated her from a very young age for really no reason at all and he bullied her when they were reunited as teenagers. She gave him a lot of lip and sass but just put up with him and even tried to befriend him. They both wanted the other no matter much they hated each other. Star is still not my favorite heroine, in fact, I'm not really a fan of hers at all. But damn it, Silas was just toxic enough to make me love him. 4½ stars Mason is still my #1 and I'm glad he's next in this series! I've been salivating over him since the first book.
I loved Star and Silas's story! This is pretty heavily interconnected to the other books in the series so I'd definitely read them first. Silas is the serious must be good enough, quiet member of the ravens. He finds young Star and is enchanted by her but that feeling isn't mutual. So when she moves next to him years later Silas takes his frustration out on her. She can't understand why he dislikes her. These two are full of sass and fire. I loved that Star was on a mission to be better than her past. And I loved how Silas bent some of the hard restrictions to be with her. She coaxed a softness from him that was beautiful to see. For all those Mason and Harper fans this book will set up a lot of their backstory and the spiral Mason is facing. Silas and Mason as friends is full of laughs and real moments of care for the other. This series continues to be addicting and full of surprising twists and turns. The last few chapters are going to set up some interesting developments to come and I'm ready for even more!
4.5 - really enjoyed this. I find this author’s writing so addictive, not sure what kind of voodoo that is. I’m not giving it five stars like the others, only because I felt like I was missing something with the Micha & Riley storyline, like perhaps that is covered in another book (there’s a spin off series & I wonder if it’s there), & it ended a little abruptly. I’ll be reading that spin off next.
Silas and star were definitely not what I expected but guess what..they are my new favorites after Micha and Riley.Reading their story was definitely a new experience!Silas being the broody asshole and star making him go all kinds of crazy was a treat to read.Star's character was very much like Riley sometimes.Silas and star started out slow but their chemistry was off the charts!I got very excited when reading every scene where the whole crew was there together..I wish there was more.Harper definitely needed someone like star and Mason and Harper's story will be one emotional rollercoaster.I cant wait to read more about all these people.Definitely my new favorite book!!
This is a Bully Romance with a Secret Society and a lot of danger and action and people dying or almost dying. It is really wonderful and I love the whole series and I love the characters as they are well defined and besides that there a lot of 🔥 in the story too.
Silas was always the quiet, brooding one of the group so i was so curious as to what he was going to be like and wow i absolutely loved him. He’s dark, an a$$hole to Star but he’s also the calm one and thinks logically. I loved the humour we got from Mason and Logan and i loved the friendship Silas has with Mason too. Star was a brilliantly strong female who dealt with serious trauma but it didn’t stop her from standing up for herself. I also loved how she was with Harper, them becoming best friends is amazing. Loved this story so much!
This is the fourth book in the series, and what an amazing addition!
Silas and Star briefly cross paths as children, and unfortunately things do not go smoothly, a fact that Silas never forgets. Trust me when I say, this man can hold a grudge (unfortunately for Star, as her new home happens to right next door to Silas’s)
If you’ve read the other books in the series, you know exactly who Silas is- the silent, moody one with the giant …. 😏
Well, Silas is definitely ALL of that, but trust me when I say he is so much more. We’ve seen hints of his personality throughout the series, but he surprised me in so many ways. He’s still intense and serious, but also surprisingly sweet and thoughtful. He’s so protective of his loved ones, and it’s clear he will not hesitate to do whatever needs to be done to protect them. His friendship with Mason is both endearing and hilarious and is hands down my favorite bromance!
But even more surprising was the domineering/alpha side Silas has been hiding. I knew he would be hot, but when take charge, possessive Silas showed up, I swooned…and that was before he started the dirty talk.🥵
Now despite their rocky start, Star is exactly what Silas needs. She’s such a unique heroine. So flawed and imperfectly human, yet her heart shines clear and bright. She’s fearless in so many ways, but also incredibly vulnerable. Her past has taught her that every action has a consequence, and she truly takes that lesson to heart. Between this and her feisty, adventurous personality, it’s easy to see why she is truly the perfect girl for Silas.
Their story is easily one of my new favorites, and will definitely be at the top of my go-to for rereads!
Great addition to the Ravens and Wolves series. Can’t wait to see what happens in book five.
I absolutely love coming back into this series-the characters and storyline are so unique and unlike any other I’ve read. The suspense, steam, and emotions in this enemies-to-lovers book is off the charts and I loved every moment of it.
Silas has been quiet in the background for much of the series so far, but do not underestimate him. There is so much more to him than his grumpy scowl and rough edges. He really surprised me with his heart and the way he tackles every challenge thrown his way. I love Silas with a passion. He is intense, possessive, and not someone to be messed with… but he has a heart of gold and will not hesitate to burn down the world for those he cares for.
I think I want Star to be my new BFF. Her character is flawed with a dark past, but she is really endearing and hilarious. I admire her strength and the way she always stands up for herself and cares for everyone around her. She has no idea what she’s getting into moving to Ashen Springs, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to back down from anyone.
This book put me through an emotional wringer. I laughed out loud, ghasped, swooned, melted, and cried way more than I thought possible. Easily a top read of the year, and not one to miss out on.
This series says seriously keep getting better and better I don't even know how. Silas yikes, He's really Hard guy To try and Really meet him Beyond his walls, And I happen to love his Personal Thunder down under Issue, lol. The new girl Star, She could definitely be Either super queen Bee Or Unbelievably sweet, but she definitely has a lot of things she really needs to work through !Her patents kill me they certainly are extremely unique! This whole series is truly a bully romance series, but Dammnnn, It is steeped In dark mystery And it's Exciting and enticing And I'm Sooo ready for the Last book of the series, sadly Because this whole entire ride, all these characters and the situations that I completely did not expect Get still don't know I am so eady for the for the final book!!! Ahhhhh, I need it now , now, now Hahaha.... , I know I have to have patience because It is being written currently. So It'll take as long As long as it needs to!! I Can't wait to be able to To finallly get the answers I'm so desperate to know!! But I have a feeling it'll be word get an Incredible ending,, It is without a doued this journey immensely!!
I have enjoyed the first couple books in this series, the 3rd was meh but I could finish it at least. But holy hell, this book.. I was unbelievably BORED. I managed to get to 50%… barely. How can so many words be used and still nothing happen?
Crumpet. Crumpet. Crumpet. Crumpet. Seriously, I get using a pet name but calm it down a bit, it just gets so repetitive.
The entire book is either Mason talking about Silas’s dick, Silas talking about how much Mason gets laid, Star crying about her past or projecting her past onto someone else to make herself feel better, like she’s ‘saving’ Harper, or both Silas and Star saying over and over and OVER how much they hate each other. It’s like this author doesn’t know how to show that characters don’t like each other except by them explicitly saying it.
I’m just done with this series. It’s unfortunate that the first couple had such potential.
I have to say that Silas really has not been on my radar in this series until NOW!!
Silas was told at a young age that he would never be good enough. And who said those words…..Star Chadwick. But they were both children when she said it. Silas would never forget those words and would strive to be the best at everything.
But now she’s back in his life after 10 years. He will have his revenge on the girl that rejected him and told him he wasn’t good enough. But his desire for her is just as intense as his revenge.
I have to say I struggled in the beginning with Silas. But it got so much better and really sucked me in. The struggle that Silas had between desire and revenge was tension-filled but I needed more spice!!!!!
I was disappointed with the ending. The epilogue was not even about Silas and Star. I’m sure it’s a setup for the next book but still not what I wanted.
I love a good bully romance so I am absolutely eating up this series! There is a lot of build up to this one so the angst is definitely there! It’s a slow to medium burn but damn! The chemistry between these characters was so hot! I didn’t want to like Silas but alas you know I did hahaha But I’m desperate for Masons book!!! So off I go for the next instalment
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 i REALLY like star. like i love her. i love how protective she is over harper (even more so than lana). i know it was to make up for the fact that she was horrible in her past, but she was a huge good influence on harper and i loved it. silas? eh he was okay. not my favourite of the bunch. he didn't seem to have much to his personality, and i was hoping for more. i wanted more scenes of him with finn too. and i wanted more scenes of star with her brothers. oh well. i like mason more in this book, but he's still an arse. but i like how they built up the suspense for his book. let's hope it doesn't disappoint.
Holy heck, Hodel has done it again! I could not put this book down, from the first word to the last! My emotions were all over the place, at one point I was screaming in my head at a certain character and at another point my heart was breaking! The emotions pour off the pages and pull you deeper and deeper into the story until the final page and your mind is just blown away! I seriously can’t wait for the next book in the series! I just know both Mason’s book and Preston’s are going to be the same! This series is seriously one of my all time favorites!
When are we getting Mason and Preston's HEA? Argh!...Anyhoo - IF you can get past the utterly irritating Main Female, then this is a 5 Star Read. Awesome character development and secret society world building in this series, every book adds to the mystery, one step closer to solving 'whodunnit' and then Bam! You're back to where you started. The smexy scenes were HOT. Loved Silas, his point of view, the Alpha role (not overdone), the music making and, the other players (including the intro to the OGs), but how well written is a book if makes you hate his love interest? Star's character was a bully. How does one rationalize trying not bully others by forcing themselves into other people's lives, that want to be left alone? Demanding and pushing/forcing another person to go to wear clothing they don't want to wear, go to parties, to drink, and to disobey their parents, especially when they keep saying they don't want to do these things? Star's character is a bully. You cannot save someone from sadness by forcing your own view of the world onto them and making them partake in those things that do not bring them personal joy. Someone people don't like attention - not because they are depressed or sad or afraid. They just like the peace - my goodness! That being said, I still recommend this book and I certainly hope Mason is up next. I have been waiting simple too darn long to get to his (and Preston's) HEA. PS - Harper might be a link to Wolves.
After reading three books from the series, you'd think I am now used to the absurdness of the plot.
Nope.
Still think it is over the top ridiculous. I am only still sticking around on this ride for Mason and Harper. I hope the author won't make us wait too long for their story. As much as I love to know more about Mason and Harper, I am not THAT eager to commit to the series for longer than necessary.
This book had so much going on! I LOVE Silas! Star is pretty amazing too. In the beginning you get a little insight into an important scene between the two as children and there's actually some insight into a few other characters in the series as well. It goes on to see the two main characters fighting against the draw between them until they can't take it anymore. The book was almost a 5 star review, I felt like there were so many things that had been set up for amazing scenes and the scenes just fell slightly short. I love all of the set up that is happening for the overall story and can't wait to find out what happens next!
Loved Star and Silas story as I’ve loved the rest in this series. The British references were fun and I loved that opposites attract and they complete one another. Can’t wait for the next installment.
Wow! Just when I think I am getting a handle on what is going on, I am thrown new curve balls. New people to love and new people to be suspicious of. I love Silas and I am so glad he found his girl, Star needs to let go of her savior complex and be herself. She is trying too hard for me to love her like I do the other girls. I cannot get over how well Tara writes this world, it is so deep and full and flushed out so well. Each book just adds a new layer and they only get better. I hope they never end, because that will be a sad day. I love these characters so much and I love seeing them evolve and get better.
Okay I want to be fair about this book. It had good potential BUT the story was all over the place. These kids were living lives that should have been written for adults. I really wanted to read Mason’s story next but it was so much of him in this book…no thank you! I will not read another book in this series because I was so confused and disappointed and quite frankly disgusted. Mason and his good friend messed around☹️Then the friend is married with kids and his dad slept with Star’s parents but he is supposed to be some fearsome dude. I want to read about about a real alpha man. I am a traditional romance girl m/m is not my cup of tea I wish the authors would disclose these type of scenes before the reader becomes invested. Oh and Silas …..yea I got nothing
Another fantastic book by T.L. Hodel. I loved Silas and Star. Stars family was a hoot 🤪😆.
What I love love love about this author is that all her characters are so unique, not to mention slightly … or a lot …nuts. And she never loses her grip on exactly who they are. Throughout each story, the characters stay true to themselves . And she brings back some of the characters in additional books and as a reader I remember exactly who they are. Then never blend in to each other.
So we got more on the order and it took a turn. Wow. Didn’t see that coming.
Triggers Involved : Bullying , Past Trauma , Dub Con
Overall Opinion : We finally have my man Silas here! I have been waiting for his book for so long. And my reason was not his snake. NO. well, maybe yes. But yeah, I also wanted to know him better 😆
Star is the perfect match for the man. Silas saw Star when he was a kid and their first meeting made him decide that he will someday destroy her. One look at her years later, he knows that the threat still holds true and that time has finally come. Star will be his, no! Matter how much he has to break her first. Star has no idea why Silas hates her. All she knows is that she wants him and maybe a part of him wants her too. And if that is not her end, then she does not know what is.
This whole book had me hooked right from the start! It was a bit less dark than what Tara usually writes, like less dark than the first two books of this series but it was so good! It also provided a much better depth of Mason and Harper's story. Those scenes about them drove me crazy and I can't wait for them. More about them!!! I have been waiting for them since the very start and I already know that they will be explosive.
Definitely recommending this enemies to lovers of dark romance standalone to all the readers out there!
First things first. This isn't even Mason's book and I hate him. I felt bad for him in Aftereffect, but really, by this point, I'm not even sure if I can stomach reading Relapse when it comes out. Maybe I'll just skip it and enjoy the psycho that is Preston when Panic-Button comes out. The fact that I would even consider missing out on what is sure to be a fantastic book written by an incredible author just to spite the male lead who won't even care that I'm not reading it should tell you how much I loathe this guy. (I wish I could stick to my convictions because I know that I'll fold like a freshly out of the dryer bath towel as soon as Relapse is released, but a girl can at least pretend to be a badass for a month. Right?) Hrmph.
Now, for the important things you want to know.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Silas. Up until this point, Micha is the controlling one. Logan is the flirty one. Parker is the nice one. Preston is the psycho one. Mason is the angry one. And Silas is the quiet one. He appears in the first three books, but he's rather silent, so there is no real way to anticipate what he's going to bring to the table.
It turns out that he brings this series back to its original roots as a bully romance.
Star brings a fresh perspective to this group of deviants. Not having grown up either in town or with them, she has a rather unbiased point of view, and I appreciated that she is not cowed by their apparent power. Her history in England just adds to how impressed I was at her determination to do what Silas has always tried: do better and be better.
There are a ton of details in this one that caught my attention, and the side characters made me want to know them better. I was already enamored with Finn. I want his book when he's a few years older. Junior, too. Cy cracked me up. He is an absolute firecracker, and I about lost my mind with Star's parents.
Accident-Prone didn't seem to contribute much to the overarching story. You find some salient facts, but the story drama is somewhat waylaid by the couple drama - which, unlike previous books, is kept relatively separate. Overall, it's a strong book that I enjoyed very much. Just like always, I'm eager for the next installment. Even if it is Mason.
Book 4 is Silas and Star's story - I was pleasantly surprised by Silas. He's moody, quiet, and always seems to be in the background. Other than being Mason's best friend, we don't get many crumbs in the first 3 books. But we learn in this book there is so much more to him.
Silas first meets star on a beach when they're little and he's drawn to her. He offers her a seashell and tells her "Penguins bring their wives rocks, so I'm giving you a shell". He basically demands that she's his wife. This scene was really cute, however Star's response to his declaration is really mean and stays with Silas as he grows up.
Ten years later, they encounter each other again when Star's family moves in next door. She doesn't remember him, but he definitely remembers her and he's still holding onto the mean things she said as kids on that beach. Her words played right into his already festering insecurities that stem from his father.
Silas is loyal, protective, in control, and needs everything to be in order. He's hurtful to Star in the beginning as he works through how her words had tormented him for half his life. He's normally wound so tight, that I love seeing the glimpses of when he loses control of himself.
Star is struggling with her own demons and trying to be a better version of herself. She's drawn to Silas and doesn't understand his animosity toward her. Despite how he treats her in the beginning, she feels safe with him.
This was a much slower burn than the previous books, but still plenty of spice. I loved watching Silas come to terms with the fact that Star is his person. This ends on a happy note, and although there is no major cliff-hanger - we are left with unfinished business with things happening in the background pertaining to The Order. And a lot more bread crumbs into Mason and Harper's story (Which I can't wait for).
Next Up: Riley's Retribution (Novella), then Relapse (Mason's Book)!
Dark and broody down to a T, this is yet another gem in the Order of Ravens series. A vividly painted picture with deep space character exploration, below the surface excavation...
Accident-prone is an excellent story about good and bad being a spectrum, not just antonyms or absolutes. Both Silas and Star, the (anti-)heroes of the story, are damaged by circumstance, and the journey they undertake is passionate, dubious, yet highly enchanting. A brief encounter in their past sets in motion a hateful relationship, drawing them back together through natural laws of attraction.
This is a standalone story as such, but the series offers continuity to an ongoing narrative which is equally entertaining to follow alongside Silas's and Star's turbulent coming together, lent beautifully to be inspected under the microscope in the literary guise of this book. Most of its charm lies in delving into the world of characters who together bring life to the series as a whole.
Accident-prone together with its predecessors isn't a book for everyone. Thought-provoking, it challenges our ideas and beliefs around morality; you equally pray for the world to be free of sin with no place for the deplorable things the characters put each other through, whilst simultaneously feeling guilt for thanking the universe for being a colourful enough place to allow the darker shades of reality to taint the monotone palettes of mundanity.
This is a story that on its own is far from perfect, hard to read at times and frustratingly vague at others, but as a whole, I can't fault the charm and addictive nature of this world constructed in words and brought to life by a vivid imagination. For that alone, it deserves my high praise and commendations.
