To Delta Force soldier Doug “Dawg” Masters, being a Delta Force Operator is his life. He’d never consider marriage or children because his job is too dangerous, taking him far away too often to make a home or raise a family. When his buddies start pairing off, Dawg’s satisfaction with his life dims. Maybe he should give love a chance. Only the woman he has in mind has him at arm’s length…except for that one scorching night in her arms.
Army nurse Beth Drennan broke up with her doctor fiancé because he was more interested in doing good for everyone else but them. After he postponed their wedding for the second time, she broke up and moved on. When a one-night stand with a sexy Delta shakes her to her core, she second guesses her initial engagement. A request to assist in a humanitarian mission in Africa with her ex-fiancé gives Beth the opportunity to determine if dumping him was the right decision, or if what she feels for the Delta might just be the heat she’d been yearning for.
When Beth is kidnapped, Dawg and his fellow Deltas are given the mission to extract the kidnapped medical staff and return them to the States. Beth faces an enemy who wants her for her skills and will kill her when she’s no longer needed, a fresh proposal from her ex-fiancé and the red-hot passion of a man who makes her burn to her very core.

Breaking Ties by Elle James Delta Force Strong series book #6. Military romance. Can be read as a stand-alone. Dawg is an active member of Delta Force deployed at the will and needs of the military. Beth is an army nurse. When the two end up in the same hot zone, they want to continue their one previous night of passion, but there are strict rules about fraternization.
His dog provides their first casual conversation. Their interests and careers are shared. Their time together becomes passionate. The danger is then explosive.
The heroine can fight for herself and shoot a gun but doesn’t mind the backup that’s timely. Fast and gripping with a future that’s promising.
Breaking Ties is book 6 in the Delta Strong series by Elle James and what an amazing book!
Next up is Doug “Dawg” Masters, Delta Forces operator and Lieutenant Beth Drennan Army Nurse. They know each other through friends and while is is interested she is coming off a back breakup and isn’t looking. They end up meeting at a bar, strike up a conversation and connect on a level neither expects.
What happens after they connect and both are deployed…keep reading to find find out what happens…suspense, kidnapping, risking it all and hopefully finding a HEA…
I really enjoyed these characters Doug and Beth. He's one of the Delta Force and she's a military nurse, they met before deployment and ended up in the same war torn country. This was an entertaining story full of action and danger. I loved this story and admired the characters so much, the author did a fantastic job depicting this lifestyle and it's brave heroes.
Another Ridiculous Romance With Serious Holes in the Story
Here's my biggest problem with this book: apparently, Elle James has a bad case of amnesia. She clearly doesn't remember the previous book she wrote in this series and made herself look stupid right off the bat! In book 5, Blade and Sophia's story, the Delta team, along with Nora, Beth, Sophia, and Layla, were hanging out at the Salty Dog Saloon after the guys had just returned from deployment. Dawg asked the women if anything interesting happened while they were gone, and Beth answered him, saying Sophia had won a trip to Cancun. A debate ensued amongst the group as to whether Blade or Dawg should accompany Sophia on the trip once Beth had to bow out. All the guys chanted for it to be Dawg, while the ladies chanted for it to be Blade. Clearly, everyone at the table knew one another. Let's cut to the end of that book when all the women, Sunny, Nora, Kylie, Layla and Beth flew down to Cancun together on a private jet to meet with Sophia and all the Deltas to finish up a vacation together. As the women greeted their respective fellas, Dawg was floating in the pool, and Beth splashed him with water. He stood up and declared that he wanted to go boogie boarding and asked if anyone wanted to join him. Beth was the first to say she wanted in. Now, cutting to book 6, we open with Beth accompanying Nora to the Salty Dog for a get-together to say goodbye to military members leaving and to welcome new ones coming in. She doesn't really want to go because she's moping about the end of a relationship and not wanting to get back into the dating scene which Nora is pressuring her to do. They arrive at the bar, and Beth sequesters herself in the back at the end of the bar to try and avoid having to talk to people. There's a man sitting beside her, and she glances at him and thinks he looks familiar. He starts talking to her and says he thinks he knows her and says, "Beth, right?" Then introduces himself as Dawg. They exchange names and start to chat. Clearly, Elle James forgot that these two characters already know one another by name, have hung out together, and even spent time vacationing together with their group of friends! That would be bad enough, but then Dawg asks her to come make rounds with him before they bug out of the bar early. He says goodbye to some member of another Delta team who's leaving the military, then goes over to his team who are sitting with their women, and introduces Beth to them...people she already knows from the previous book! One of the women even says to Beth that she recognizes her from a BBQ the team had a while back, and they exchange names! This is a woman who Beth flew to Cancun with on the private plane in book 5! They already freaking know each other, and yet Elle has them acting like strangers officially meeting for the first time! UGH!
Then, once again, since apparently, Elle can't write any other kind of book, Dawg and Beth fall for each other on their first freaking date! Dawg drives away after dropping her off, thinking to himself that he's fallen in love with her! It'd be bad enough if she remembered these two characters already knew each other previously, but since she's forgotten the book she wrote just prior to this one and has them just meeting for the first time, it's even more ridiculous that they'd fall in love within hours of meeting one another! I want to rip my freaking hair out! Can we please stop with the instant love already? If every book is the same, it doesn't make them fun to read because we already know exactly how the relationships are going to happen! It's just not realistic for this many people, especially within the same friend group, to all develop relationships in which they instantly fall in love! That's a very rare occurrence! So much so that most people only ever know one couple in their lifetime that it happens to. Yet, EVERY. SINGLE. COUPLE. within a tight knit group finds insta-love? Just, no! And if you're gonna reuse that ridiculous trope in every damn book, at least keep your facts straight from book to book within a series so you don't have people flying to Cancun together and vacationing together in one book then somehow meeting for the first time in the very next! It's too much bull crap to have to swallow!
recensione a cura del blog “Libri Magnetici" by Meghan
Grazie 😘 ”

A dedicated military doctor married to the job who consistently puts you second or a soldier who sees you and makes your heart go crazy? This is the choice our main character Beth is stuck between. Easy right? In Breaking Ties, Book 6 in the Delta Force Strong Series, military nurse Beth has broken off her engagement with her fiancé who has let down one time to many. Months later while going to a military party with a friend, she meets Dawg, a Delta who owns a dog with separation anxiety:-) An attraction sizzles between them and they have an unforgettable one night together (with promises to reconnect) before she is deployed. During her deployment, she realizes that both her ex-who wants her back, and her Delta- who wants her- period, are on the same deployment. Terrorists, wounded Delta's, emergency medical events, and an almost kidnapping are only a few of the "fun" things that ensue. So what's her decision going to be: Dawg, the Delta who is "...well on his way to falling in love...." or her ex, Dr. Parker, who believes she is "a special, giving person who needs someone who can provide for her the life she so richly deserves." I know who I would choose!!! You absolutely must read Breaking Ties to find out what happens during this wild adventure of a military deployment. I couldn't put it down (except to occasionally rant and rave at some of the twists). I received an ARC of this story to review.
Army nurse, Beth Drennan, recently broke off her engagement to someone who was “perfect” for her on paper, but seemed more interested in volunteering for humanitarian deployments than marrying Beth. After having to delay her wedding twice, Beth finally decides to move on. Nora, her best friend, talks her into a night out at The Salty Dog Saloon. She doesn’t really want to be there, but finds herself chatting with Dawg…
Dawg Masterson, a Delta Force member, hates the “hi and goodbyes”. When he’s not deployed, he’d rather be home spending time with his dog. He gets teased endlessly about he and his dog from his teammates. So he decides to make a showing at The Salty Dog to hopefully appease his teammates. When he spots Beth at the bar, he decides to take a less rowdy route where they decide to use each other as an excuse to leave the bar. One thing leads to another and Dawg convinces Beth to go on a date with him. But after only one date, they are both deployed.
Loved the action and suspense. I did feel as though the ending was somewhat quick, with some unanswered questions. I thought her ex was sneaky and kind of slimy. Overall, a very engaging read. I enjoyed glimpses of Nora and the rest of the Deltas. This is a standalone novel, but I’ve enjoyed reading the series from the beginning. Great read with a HEA. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Dawg is such a breath of fresh air. A man unafraid to show his love for his dog, who is comfortable being with a woman with no pressure on her to take anything further. Who would rather see the woman he loves happy, even if the person to make her happy isn't him.
Beth is really not a demanding female, she just wants the man she's with NOT to volunteer for duty, especially not just before they are due to marry. She's over her ex, she just wants to feel something for someone. But bar hopping is just not what she wants to do but being forced on a night out with her bestie leads to one of the more fun nights she's had, even when it means she and Dawg cut out earliy 'cos neither of them is in the mood to party.
OMG what a great couple. beth is steady, surefooted under pressure but doubts herself in the romance world. Dawg knows Chewy loves him and he's content with his lot - until Beth comes into his life. I was not enamoured with beth's ex, what a total self-involved butt! He really is dense, he may have loved Beth in his own way but not at the expense of HIS career.
Not a damsel in distress in sight, brilliant read!
We are back with the Delta Force men we have come to love in this series. This time the story belongs to Doug/Dawg Masters. A man dedicated to his job and who originally thought marriage was out of the question while being a Delta Force member. But as his teammates begin to find strong women to love them, he questions his beliefs. Especially when he meets nurse Beth Drennan. Six months ago she broke up her engagement when her fiance was more interested in volunteering than in their wedding. She was not looking for romance, but Dawg might just change her mind. Deployment comes for both sending them to a dangerous mission. Will they overcome their personal doubts and the danger and find their HEA? This was another engaging story in this already entertaining series. Aside from the plot, as a reader and an American, I appreciate the fact that the author highlights the sacrifices that not only the brave men and women that serve our country make, but also those who love them. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Breaking Ties is a spectacular romantic suspense by Elle James. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. James has given readers a well-written book loaded with lovable characters. Dawg and his Delta Force Team are due to deploy shortly after he meets Beth Drennan. He had time to squeeze in one date before he had to leave. Beth broke off her engagement 6 months ago and isn't in a rush to date but her friend twists her arm to go out, where she meets Dawg. Beth learns she'll be deploying the day before Dawg, but at least they'll have a date before she leaves. Beth and Dawg's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Elle James soon. Breaking Ties is book 6 of the Delta Force Strong Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 stars I received a free copy of the steamy Fort Hood Texas military based novel Breaking Ties: Delta Force Strong Book 6: Dawg and Beth by Elle James and this review was given freely. Ironic, steamy, and a bit twisted this, short predominantly mission based novel has a fair amount of action, touch of steam and although it ends abruptly, lends hope for a long and happy future between Delta Force Sargent Doug “Dawg” Masters and Army nurse Lieutenant Beth Drennan. Doug “Dawg” Masters is the whole package: strong, alpha, respectful of women and tender towards his miniature dog Chewy. When Dawg and his Delta Force team are tasked with ending the Boko Haram and it’s kidnapping spree, Dawg doesn’t expect to find the women of his dreams, Army nurse Lieutenant Beth Drennan, on the same covert Nigerian mission, and her working with her ex- fiancé Doctor Colonel Jonathan Parker, who wants to get her back.
When Doug aka Dawg strikes up a conversation with Beth in a bar at a farewell party for another team member, sparks fly. But Beth is hesitant as she is not looking for a relationship or a one night stand, and Dawg just wants friendly conversation and an excuse to go home to his dog. The two find out they have a lot in common and neither are playing games. When Beth receives order for a deployment, she decides she will enjoy at least one night with Dawg and see where it leads. They are surprised to find that both are deployed to the same area and Beth’s ex fiancée is wanting her back as well....who will she chose. A good read with great characters, steam, and some suspense. I really liked these two, the easy flow between them as well as their conversations when getting to know each other. Little to no drama and a great ending that left a smile on my face. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
What a great book! Dawg and Beth love story is one to enjoy. We have all been confused at different times, not sure which decision is the right one, whether it's about a relationship or something else. It was good to watch multiple people go through their thought progress and come to their decisions. Of course, they are making decisions right in the middle of a war zone. No easy tasks.
This is one you can gab a drink of your choice, make yourself comfortable and settle in for the afternoon or evening for a good book. When you finish the book, then put it down, turn off the light or get up to do something else, you will feel good and satisfied.
I received a free copy of this book for a honest review. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys romance and military romance books.
Six-months after breaking off her engagement to a doctor who volunteered to deploy 2-weeks prior to their wedding, Army nurse Beth Drennan is being dragged out to a gathering of Deltas for one of their own who was retiring by her friend who was dating a Delta. She didn’t really want to go, so she sat in a corner and ended up meeting Doug “Dawg” Masters. Shockingly to her, they hit it off and go on a date the next night. But she ends up being deployed the day after their date, only to find her ex-finance has arranged for her to be there. Of course, Dawg and his team end up there also. Elle James does such a great job of combining the relationship between Beth & Dawg with Beth dealing with her ex along with what’s going on in the war zone they are in - definitely never a dull moment. I couldn’t put it down. Great book by Elle James!!
Once again Elle has delivered another amazing book. The story of Doug (Dawg) Masters, navy seal and a member of her friends’ seal team and LT Beth Drennan, army nurse. All though they had seen each other at barbeques they had never officially met. They hit it off right away and enjoyed the others company. While Beth must deploy to take the place of another nurse, they plan to see each other again. With both of their deployment schedules can they manage to get together or will the weight of being away from each other tear them apart before they start? Grab the book to see what happens to them and the rest of the guys. It’s another book that you can’t put down.
Once again we are in for a thrill ride with these delta soldiers and this time we get Doug (Dawg) Masters story he has always believed that as a delta soldier he cannot have a wife and family but as he sees more and more of his team mates finding their one he has to question his thinking Then he meets Beth Drennan she is a military nurse who has recently broken her engagement to a doctor who let her down one to many times They share a night that neither can forget but are soon posted on deployment That is where things get complicated all three are posted to the same area. Dawg is falling for Beth and wants to make her his but her ex Fiancé also wants her back who will Beth choose and what happens when danger threatens her You will have to read to see if Dawg gets his HEA
Layla Grey, daughter of the American ambassador to Turkey. Despite Turkey going through a lot of political unrest, Layla’s a woman with an agenda, Hoping to thwart Layla’s ease in losing her bodyguards, her distressed father decides to add a Delta Operator to the mix. Craig ‘Bull’ Bullington was ready for vanilla bodyguard duty but dad decided the it would be best if Craig were her shadow 24/7 and that could only be accomplished if Craig acted as her fiancée. Neither Craig nor Layla want that! Or so they try to convince each other but Bull likes Layla’s fierceness and Layla just likes Bull.
Unfortunately, getting past Layla’s attitude and the not so scary villain didn’t help the pacing to my taste. Rating: 3.5stars
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was another rock-solid entry in this series. The storyline is a enticing blend of emotion, action, danger, suspense, heart, tension, drama, turmoil, heat and excitement. I liked Dawg or Beth a lot. I found their inner conflict compelling and I found myself feeling a strong connection to these two and I was rooting for them pretty early on. Along with the major feels you get from this couple, this book also offers up an abundance of thrills. All together, a super enjoyable book that was a great way to relax and get my read on. I am indecently posting an impartial review.
I love the story and the series. A fantastic story. Beth is an army nurse and was engaged until her fiance volunteered to ship out 2 wks before the wedding for a second time. She has given up and isn't ready to jump back on the wagon yet. Her friend insists she go out with her and their friends and ends up talking to Dawg. He doesn't flirt with her and they just talk. He takes her home and they get to know each other better. They both end up getting shipped out and at the same place. Beth and her ex-fiance are taken and its up to Dawg's team to save them. What happens then? I read an arc of this book and this is my review.
Like all military romances this book is no exception when dealing with risks and breathless’ situations. Dawg is a keeper, he puts his feelings apart for Beth just to see her happy and this made my heart melt. The men of the Delta Force team are the dream of any woman; charming, sexy and very protective of their loved ones. The author has the great ability to write involving stories of these courageous men and at the same time she adds some spicy scenes in order to make the story more interesting. I guarantee that this is another great book!
Neither Dawg or Beth were looking for a relationship. In fact, they were both avoiding it when they went to the bar. But fate had other ideas. Just as they are wanting to explore a relationship, they are both deployed. They end up at the same place but can't act on their attraction because she is an officer and he is enlisted. There is also the matter of her ex being her commanding officer. They are in a place that is not conducive for romance, but they are willing to put all that on hold until they get home. Can they survive until then?
Since this is the 6th in Elle James’s Delta Force Strong series, we expect tension, heat, and some soul-searching – and boy does this book deliver on all three. Beth is one of her most sympathetically drawn characters; she demonstrates courage at every turn and in so many different ways. Dawg too is one of my favorites of the team, and his willingness to put Beth first is so diametrically opposed to her ex-fiance’s attitude that it alone makes you cheer him on. In a nutshell – I loved this book and its characters, I heartily recommend it, and (as always) I want more!
Beth and Dawg just 'click', they both avoid large groups, love dogs, prefer to eat in and know the value of family...both blood and chosen. But is their relationship strong enough after one date to survive two deployments, an interfering ex, kidnapping, front line attacks and the wrath of the Army? Dawg is determined to find out as Beth has stolen his heart, she is compassionate, smart, determined, fast thinking and gorgeous...does that sound familiar Dawg? A great series with an awesome team of Delta's who all stole our heart back in book one!
I loved this book. Its about Dawg and Beth, both in the army, although he's a Delta and she's a nurse. Beth is a lieutenant and Dawg is a sergeant and the military has rules about fraternizing with someone of a different rank. They met the first time at a Delta party and the second time at the Salty Dog Saloon near Fort Hood. Then they both get shipped to Nigeria, although neither of them knew where the other one was going. They meet again there, when someone is chasing Beth. This book has lots of action, suspense and romance. I recommend it to everyone. I loved it.
Nora is telling Beth she needs to go out. It's been long enough. She had broken off her engagement 6 months ago. She went with Nora but planned to leave early. Dawg is out with the guys but just wanted to go home to his dog. While out at the bar, he starts talking to Beth. He has been attracted to her for awhile now. They are both being sent out on missions. When Beth gets to her destination, she is not happy. Come to find out her ex requested her. Beth is surprised to see Dawg there. Beth and her ex are kidnapped. Will Dawg find her in time? What will happen when they get back?
Beth dumped her fiance 6 months ago because he voluntarily deployed 2 weeks before their wedding, and that was the second time in 2 months he'd done it. Now, she meets Dawg, a Delta Force operative who she has an immediate chemical reaction to, and she's not the only one! They both end up deployed to the same place in Africa because Beth's ex-fiance requests that she be sent to assist him. The bullets are flying and so is the heat! Quick, action packed, smoking hot read!
I received an advanced copy in return for an honest review. This is a military romance with two very likeable characters. They discover their mutual interests (including a love of dogs) in a very believable situation. They fit together quickly but not without personal inner doubts. My only reason I gave it a 4 stars is that it ended too quickly. I would like to have spent more time with these two characters as I enjoyed them so much. Great job Elle James.
I was a little disappointed in this book. I truly love the Delta Force books by this author, but this one was missing something. It seemed kinda ho hum. Not a lot of excitement. I'm not sure if it's me expecting more and more from authors or if it's the story has already been told, but it seems like some of the books coming out now are not capturing my interest. Maybe I need to go back and regroup and take a break so when I start up reading again, I won't be bored or disappointed.
Beth is a surgical nurse who has been requested, unbeknownst to her by her ex fiancé, to deploy. Well, she has moved on. While out running she is noticed by Delta Force operator, Dawg when she is nearly kidnapped. After an attack on their base, she has disappeared. He is part of the team sent to rescue her. Problem is, he’s enlisted and she is an officer. Nicely written with lots of action and romance. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
