This was such a refreshing and easy read!
It was entertaining, fast-paced and so charming that I was willing to oversee the few flaws that the story had in my opinion...
What spoke to me most was, that the main characters had strong personalities and I simply LOVED them both. Individually and as a couple as well - both are 34y old doctors, neither of them planned to marry or have children in the future. Colin is a commitment phob who is a little bit reckless and loves women, but in the end he's just the perfect stand-up man, and Mia is a workaholic (or I would rather say hard-working and responsible), sensible, charismatic and reads old Russian novels. They seem like complete opposites on the paper but they fit so great together and their chemistry is off the charts.
What would have me really lower my rating were the fact, that it is an insta-love story (like really INSTA... ) and you'll find some clichés in the book, the ending in particular was cheesy as hell... BUT in spite all of this the story didn't come across as flat and honestly everything else simply worked for me (yeah, let's face it, this is highly subjective rating 😄). It is in fact one of the most interesting office-romances I've read, and there is just something about the writing... the word choice and some of the visuals that are evoked (mainly from Colin's POV) that are amazing. Hawkins brought a man's perspective to a romance story and I couldn't put it down. I definitely plan on reading more by him in the future.

I have missed Hawkins. He’s got such a romantic soul. His Dostoyevsky references always make me giggle.
Playing Doctor is a really cute story. Dr Colin Pierce starts a new role at Santa Teresa Hospital. Can Colin be a sexy name? I always think Colins are a bit creepy. The feel good vibe of the hospital and the people that work there is really well described. It feels like a warm and happy place and Colin fits in straight away. He’s the handsome, flirty new boy that all the nurses want to get up close and personal with but there’s only one person that catches his eye; the beautiful, red haired Dr Mia Taylor.
Together they are like a perfectly written sonata. They just fit so well together but there has to be a bit of drama, so of course they shouldn’t be together - they are colleagues after all. But damn Colin for being so irresistible. Flash those green eyes at me and I’m popping the buttons too. Colin might not be a very sexy name but the book character is most definitely not creepy.

This was such a fun read! Plenty of witty banter and sexual chemistry had me smiling the whole way through. Mia and Colin’s love story was exactly what I needed today. I’m looking forward to plenty more in this series.

This book does not play with your heart! So satisfying!
I finally got to sit down and devour this. There is a special something, a feel to J.D.'s books that I find irresistible.
Colin and Mia are both people who have always found their work fulfilling. They aren't searching for that thing to complete them.
Colin has come to Santa Teresa to start over after a very toxic work situation at his former hospital. He's the hot new pediatrician with movie star good looks and the charm to match. He's also determined to make sure he stays hands off with the women of his new work world because he does not need that trouble again.
But he unexpectedly finds himself knocked off his new stride by his new co-worker. He can't stop thinking about her.
Mia is a very focused and dedicated doctor. Her patients and her colleagues love her. She is very satisfied and happy with her life. She is bit off kilter after meeting her new colleague, Colin. Not only is he distractingly attractive, but he's very charming.
Neither one can resist the pull. And they certainly don't expect it to turn into more.
I love J.D.'s heroes. Colin is confident and cocky, but he's not obnoxious, and he is oh so human.
And Mia is smart, strong, independent, beautiful inside and out, and does not let her internal monologs keep her back.
They are like two halves who needed to find each other. Him needing some control and her needing to let a little control go. In each other they add that extra bit of balance each needed.
Their journey isn't completely smooth sailing though. There is the whole co-workers issue, and the added complication of his past haunting his future.
But J.D. gets us through those rough waters without making either of our protagonists have to give up what they love for love. He gives us humor, heat, and feels with a very satisfying HEA!

Modern Hip Sexy Page Turner
This romance goes straight to my favorites and re-read lists! Playing Doctor has everything you could want in an unputdownable romance: sexy times, a whipsmart heroine with no time for love, and a hot broody doctor--who knows where ice belongs ;). Give him commitment-itis, a hyena for an ex, and the chops to keep up with his secret crush. Add a vintage red sports car, the timely role reversal of women on top, some hipster curry crushing, and lots and lots of rule-breaking unf!, and Playing Doctor is perfect.
Only JD Hawkins would compare The Real Housewives of New Jersey to Dostoevsky and know his fans were in on the joke. That’s the charm though, and the story is full of magic moments with side characters, emotional highs, and plenty of banter.
Mia and Colin’s story is equal parts steam, smarts and smarm. With the dark secret Colin carries in almost every scene, Mia is a great tonic, the strawberry milkshake to his staid, cramped vanilla.
I highly recommend this sexy page-turner that packs so much fun and love.

I fell in love with Colin and Mia. If you are in the market for a sweet, sexy, emotionally satisfying read then get your one click finger ready! On the outside it appears that this couple is not a great fit. Colin seems to have it all. He is handsome, driven, talented, too sexy for his own good and has a heart of gold. He is the new pediatrician on the block. He has recently left a very hostile working environment and fled a even more toxic relationship. The lovely Mia is a dedicated physician. She loves her job, is adored by her patients and is admired by her colleagues. She is not looking for love so why can't she get the new handsome pediatrician out of her head.
On paper this couple may not seem like a fit but the more we get to know them they are the yin to the others yang. I loved this story! Mia and Colin are such great characters. I had all the swoon for Colin. He is such a sweet talker and so lovable. Mia tries to ignore the pull, but how can you not love Colin. He is trying to start fresh but the past always has a way of catching up to you. J.D. Hawkins gets 5 stars from me ❤ I can't wait to see where this behaving badly series goes next.

When the new doctor in town, Dr Colin Pierce, a connoisseur of women and definitely not looking for a relationship met the workaholic Dr Mia Taylor, sexy without really trying, all bets were off!
Colin was the typical playboy, committed phobic who made the ladies’ head spin. I kinda rolled my eyes a lot in the beginning about how all the women were fanning over him.
Like an ad for a famous male deodorant brand, you know? Sorry I digress.
Anyway, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this character and I enjoyed seeing him hitched and meet his match.
Mia didn’t have time to date because her job was her first love. She worked hard and she was not letting the new pediatrician distract her. She liked to be in control and she sensed that man was kinda dangerous if she stayed too close. Trouble like a capital T. I appreciated how passionate she is about her job and how clueless she could be about flirting and not seeing what was in front of her. A mix of sunshine, cute and sweet.
Things kinda escalated very quickly between Colin and Mia. There was some little drama but not too heavy. It was an easy going, quick and sexy read.
It was good. Just what I needed at the moment!

Mia has worked hard her entire life to be a doctor and be the best doctor she can absolutely be. Colin is a doctor and new to the hospital. He is a flirt and is charming. The moment they meet there is an instant connection. However, Colin isn’t about to mix business and pleasure again and Mia isn’t going to let the new doctor distract her.
There is plenty of banter and chemistry between Mia and Colin from the start and I loved it. They tried to deny their connection, however, that didn’t last long for either of them. There is some drama mixed in thanks to someone from Colin’s past showing up and leads to some issues between Mia and Colin.
Workplace romance, two doctors, great secondary characters, loads of chemistry and steamy scenes Playing Doctors is a great and entertaining read.
If you’re looking for a workplace romance this is one to check out.

This was such a beautiful reading experience, it has been a while since I’ve read a book that had me giggling so hard.
This book is one of those books, which you want to read of forever and never reaching the end. It is so good, with great writing and amazing characters. The plot is well defined, the action is not rushed, and you have the time to enjoy, and later fall in love with the characters.
This is one of those books that remind me why I fell in love with romantics novel, and why I love so much those happily ever afters. This book is the perfect recipe for a great and successful book. It’s pure bliss, sunshine, happiness and love, with a touch (the perfect amount) of angst, all wrapped in perfect writing and great, lovable and relatable characters.
Mia, is a beautiful, charismatic, intelligent and hard-working doctor. She is the best employee and also, the best doctor someone could ever hope for. She is dedicated to her patients, always puts their need above everything. She spend years learning and working to be the best gynecologist there is.
I loved her so much, she has such a beautiful and vibrant personality, it is almost impossible not to love her. She is sassy, smart and always has the perfect response. The way she acts with her patients and how she cares for them, and the beautiful friendship that is between Mia and her coworkers. Her only problem? She is an absolute control freak, and she need to let loose and live a little. And then, she met Colin.
Colin, he is the new guy, the change that was needed in Mia’s life. If McDreamy and McSteamy had a baby, that would be Colin.
After leaving his previous job at a top notch hospital, with a great pay at a lot of privileges, he starts his new job hoping for a fresh start. He wants to be a new men, to change his old habits, and focus on his work. He is trying a new thing, that being celibacy. But everything goes out the window the moments he sets his eyes upon Mia.
He is handsome, and he knows it, with a body that could make the Greek Gods jealous, is easy-going, charismatic and has a smile that makes every girl and woman week in their knees. But also, he is hard-working, smart and super dedicated to his job. He is one of the best pediatrician there is, loves working with tiny humans and is also great with them.
I loved the way his character was build, I fell in love with him instantly. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find something to hate about him.
The attraction and chemistry between Colin and Mia was undeniable, and their story so well written. It wasn't one of those instant love story, their story was a steady one, filled with back and forth steps.
They are both driven and hard working, and I found it amusing how they tried, and later failed, to keep their distance, even though the attraction and connection between them it was undeniable. They gravitated towards each other, always looking for the other or seeking the presence of each other.
If you want a book that is gonna give you all the feels, and turn all your insides intro mush, that this book is definitely the one for you!

This was an easy, breezy read, and a very good past time especially for a lazy weekend. It was refreshing, fun and by the end of the book, I had a wide smile on my face - agenda accomplished, I'd. I would term this book as an erotic romantic comedy. It has an interesting premise, appealing characters and a simple but engaging story.
I won't go into the details of the story as the blurb gives a good gist of the story. I took an immediate liking for Dr Colin (Pediatrician). His POV were fun to read, and he was also a very relatable character. Thanks to his recent fallout with an ex that left quite a mess behind, he's all set for a new start in a different small but more grueling hospital. He's not big on commitment, and prefers slings. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we are introduced to Dr. Mia. She doesn't have time for men or dating in general, and is a gynecologist who's first love is her work (her patients). She's as obsessed with her work as Colin is with women. When these two run into each other in the hospital, sparks fly, making for a fun romance. What starts out as fling starts getting serious, but thanks to the forbidden premise (as they are colleagues), they decide to just consider it as fling. But then again, Colin's past doesn't leave him behind, and his ex turns up at the hospital as his boss, further complicating his love life. This is no love triangle-if it were, I bet it would be more dramatic, but here we just have two main characters who are pretty much established as the couple, and ex thrown into the plot as an antagonist. At the surface, it's a good read, but what it lacks is deeper characterization and growth in characters - especially for Mia. She is the same throughout the story, and though Colin does get past his issues, the change was too sharp and sudden for em to really praise him for it. The ex's character is not given any depth, so as a character she doesn't add much to the story, just creates some obstacles in path of the protagonists happily ever after. The sex scenes are hands down very good and there are plenty (I didn't get the vibe that it was written by a male author), but I wish the same nuance and attention was given to the story as a whole. It appeared very simple, lacking drama, which could have made it a more engaging read. Also, the secondary characters were an interesting bunch especially Maeve, Mia's brother Toby and the head nurse Jackie. I would love to read Maeve and Toby's book. Their chemistry in just that one scene they had was HOT. I wish Colin and Mia had similar chemistry. Their love seemed to sudden and forced to me.
Overall, though, it's a fun and enjoyable read. 4 stars from me.

This is a little bit opposites attract, a little bit office romance and a little bit forbidden. She's spent her life studying hard and working hard, sacrificing her life. No, she doesn't die, but her social life and romantic life is basically extinct. All her hard work, does make her a highly respected and revered doctor at her hospital. He's the new boy in town. He's a good doctor as well, but with more of a carefree, playboy lifestyle. He also vowed never to get involved with a co-worker again after a bad experience at his former place of employment. Of course, he never expected someone like her to cross his path. He fights the attraction as much as he can until he gives in. She's a little reluctant as well, but they both agree to a one time only deal.... but we all know how those turn out. There is a little tension. A little angst. A little hot and cold. A little sass and snark (mostly from the side characters.) A little anguish. And of course, a little sexual content. There is some humor throughout to keep things light. The characters are are likable, even the side characters... well except for those one or two 'mean girls,' but even they play their part. There isn't much emotional hardship in the sense of one being so badly wronged, though there is some lack of communication between the two that causes some heartache for the characters. No tissues needed though, so you are safe in that regards. It is a somewhat an insta-attraction and so there's not a super lot of build up before they get involved, but that's part of their story... everything happening fairly quickly. It alternates between POVs. Due to the sexual content, I'd say this is suitable for mature readers.

Playing Doctor by J.D. Hawkins is a fun flirty romance that has everything a reader would possibly ask for in a well-written romance and I do mean everything. From the sexy white shirt to the porn star BJ, he doesn't leave anything out. He certainly knows how to capture the imagination of the reader. Enter Colin, I'm not a fan of the name (no offense to anyone named Colin) so I called him Brad which worked for me. He's sinfully sexy and then some, just the way we romance readers like our guys. He's starting a new job at a new hospital and has made the decision to not get involved *wink wink with any female staff members. Enter Mia who is utterly adorable from her head to her toes. The attraction is instant and these two find themselves involved in more than a professional capacity. There's lots of snogging and 'stuff' and when you read the description of Colin's aka Brad's 'package' you can understand why Mia is a very happy girl. JD certainly has a way with words. Unfortunately for these two things get a little sticky when Colin's aka Brad's ex turns up but it's a romance so you know things will work out. It's a light read and as always well written. Looks like J.D. Hawkins is well and truly back. Worth a read? Absolutely.

Colin and Mia manage to have an entire relationship while not ever admitting that they are dating. luckily, they are the only ones who miss this small detail, and the reader is fully aware that this is what is happening.
I really enjoyed Colin. He's funny, and you can really relate to him wanting more than what he has, while not being entirely certain exactly what that "more" even really is.
Mia was a little stuck...not in a bad way, just in the same job and the same apartment, and the same...things...and, while not always a bad thing, I think she was also ready for something to be different, just not dramatically so.
And, this is why the one night stand works for them...until they realize it sort of doesn't and it was never a one night stand at all.
Watching them figure this out was the fun of this book. There were a few parts that I thought moved a little quickly (and a character that seemed there as foil without much other substance) but none of this bothered me enough to ruin my enjoyment of the story.
I am looking forward to the next in the series and I enjoyed and recommend this title.

Modern Hip Sexy Page Turner
This romance goes straight to my favorites and re-read lists! Playing Doctor has everything you could want in an unputdownable romance: sexy times, a whipsmart heroine with no time for love, and a hot broody doctor--who knows where ice belongs ;). Give him commitment-itis, a hyena for an ex, and the chops to keep up with his secret crush. Add a vintage red sports car, the timely role reversal of women on top, some hipster curry crushing, and lots and lots of rule-breaking unf!, and Playing Doctor is perfect.
Only JD Hawkins would compare The Real Housewives of New Jersey to Dostoevsky and know his fans were in on the joke. That’s the charm though, and the story is full of magic moments with side characters, emotional highs, and plenty of banter.
Mia and Colin’s story is equal parts steam, smarts and smarm. With the dark secret Colin carries in almost every scene, Mia is a great tonic, the strawberry milkshake to his staid, cramped vanilla.
I highly recommend this sexy page-turner that packs so much fun and love.

Such a huge JD Hawkins fan, so I was excited to read Playing Doctor!
Dr. Colin Pierce is your typical relationship phob, that loves the ladies, just not the commitment, that is until he meets workaholic, Dr. Mia Taylor.
Forced to start his career over in Santa Teresa over a poor choice that he made, Colin can't help but break his own code of ethics once he has a taste of Mia, and one time with her isn't enough!
Colin and Mia's relationship is over really before it even starts when a blast from the past comes back to stir up trouble.
I loved this story! It had everything that JD always gives you in his stories, great banter, chemistry and characters that you can't help but fall for.
The side characters ALL deserve their own story! They had such great presence in this story, that I really want to know more. And JD, if you read this, great job! You were missed💗

Dr. Colin Pierce is starting over. New hospital, new staff, new life to erase the old one. He is also adopting a new attitude on relationships, he doesn't want any. While this might not be new for most men, Colin is different, he's been burned badly in the past. He is satisfied doing his job and doing it well. What happens when he sees Dr. Mia Taylor is the last thing he expected. Mia is dedicated to her job. She has a non-existent social life other than her best friend who makes her go out once a week. She along with every other female in he hospital, can't help but notice Colin. She knows nothing can ever happen with him since it's against policy but she can't help but be drawn to him. I adored Mia. She is the quintessential good girl. She is dedicated to not only her job but her friends and family. She goes above and beyond to do what needs to be done. And she falls hard and fast for Colin. Colin is a bit of a mystery. He has left a prestigious hospital behind to start all over again. And there is a reason for that but I don't want to give things away. Just know that this love story, this romance is a fairy tale of modern times. JD Hawkins writes heroes to swoon for and heroines that you can get behind.

JD Hawkijns is an author that I immediately one click when they have a new release and never disappointed, This was no exception with the entertaining storyline and really likable characters. I really enjoyed this story and I really loved the instant chemistry between the characters. This made for a really interesting story that I could not stop reading.
Mia was a hard worker that didnt get out often to have fun. It was obvious when she met Colin how much he affected her. I really enjoyed how much she cared for her job and how much she liked Colin. She was a great character that I really enjoyed reading about.
Colin was the hot doctor that was a bit of a ladies man. But he learnt his lesson from previous mistakes not to mix his personal and work life together. However he never expected the attraction he felt for Mia and I absolutely loved reading how much he felt for her. It was obvious how much he was falling for her throughout the story.
These two characters were complete opposites bit were totally perfect for each other. I really loved how they both tried to avoid their attraction to each other. This is a story that definitely recommends to others.

Colin is looking for a change. Things are already looking up. As long as he doesn’t repeat his previous mistake. Which proves difficult when he has nurses looking and touching a little too long. Mia is all about her job and patients. If not for her friend she would never go out. On their first run in the attraction was there. Though Mia trying not to get involved with a coworker and Colin knowing the downside they choose to ignore chemistry. It was only suppose to be one night and they’ll pretend it never happen. Mia is second guessing herself and Colin knows that this woman isn’t like the others. While sorting out feelings Colin’s problem followed him. So now he must decide the best of action. Give up on the woman he loves and give up a job he loves. Or do something he didn’t know he wanted until inspiration hit him?

This book surprised me! I thought it was going to be a little campy, insta-love romance and it wasn't at all. There was a good back story on both Mia and Colin. Mia is an attending OB/Gyn at Santa Rosa Hospital and Colin is transferring there to escape a bad situation. He is immediately taken with Mia and their paths cross frequently because he's a pediatrician. Mia is the typical book smart, work-oriented nerd. Colin is the player, but he's trying to amend his ways. Lucky for us, they really steam up quite a few pages. I really liked this story and it has a sweet ending. This is my first book by Hawkins and I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm definitely interested in reading more of his work! 4 stars

Colin and Mia both love there jobs and really don’t want anything getting in there way but the chemistry they feel with each other is to much to not give in so they decide to for one night and one night only but they realize one night isn’t enough and when hurdles get in there way they have to decide how much they want each other

Cute love story about Colin a Pediatrician and Mia a gynecologist. Mia and Colin both work at the same hospital and are attracted to one another but both very serious about their jobs. Eventually they get to know one another better and then a real wrench gets thrown in the works. Through almost no communication the do both figure out what becomes of their relationship. Likable characters. Was rooting for them!

This was a fun read. It hits all the right spots- fun, witty, serious, chemistry, with a hint of drama. I actually felt a little bad for Collin, but he pulled it together and figured out what he wanted in the end.

I absolutely enjoyed this one, even more than I had expected. I knew I was going to need to read this one as soon as I heard about it and I wasn't wrong. It was an entertaining and easy book to read. It was a nice change of pace from the books I have been reading. As soon as I sat down to start it, I was hooked and couldn't put it down.

Hardworking doctor, Mia's not prepared for the new doctor at her hospital. Not prepared for the way her body reacts to him. She's always been about the work, about her people at the hospital when Colin swaggers in to start his new job. He's the same - about the work, but a bit of a ladies' man vibe. Are the two seeming opposites actually perfect for each other?
I have missed JD's writing, but Playing Doctor was well worth the wait. It's entertaining, sexy, and fun. Though Colin is a cocky charmer, he's a sweetheart in the best sense of the word. Mia may seem to be his opposite, but she's just as hardworking, if not more so, has just as big a heart, and the two of them are perfect for each other. Welcome back JD, can't wait for whatever you bring us next!
